The decision by Jersey politicians to return

the Plemont headland back to nature has been described as historic

The states voted overwhelmingly in favour of giving the Nathonal

Trust for Jersey a three and a half million pound grant towards buying

the site of the former holiday camp on the islands north coast.

Hugs and celebrations outside the state chamber, seemed these

supporters thought my never come. Absolutely thrilling result

for everyone in Jersey and `ll the people who come and visht here.

Absolutely wonderful news. We have been working on this

for years. I can't believe it, it is

fantastic for the whole isl`nd. I am thrilled, not just for the

island, but for the puffins as well. The National Trust

for Jersey has been trying to secure this headland ever since

the camp was abandoned in 2000. This decision gives

the trust enough money to bty it. We have got a big job ahead of us,

it is a big challenge but wd are looking forward to it and wd want to

get on with the demolition. We always pledged that we would

get the job done, and that hs what we want to get on with now

Now we want to get the diggdrs in and get

the site cleared essentiallx. But it has not been

easy getting here. It is taxpayer's money and this is

the third time we have attelpted to ask the taxpayer to pay for it.

Everyone tells me it is six: One that everyone wants it,

but no one is telling me th`t. This is a once in four ever

opportunity to put right a wrong. Sometimes we have to have

the courage to admit a mistake was made, albeit

for the right reasons in thd past. It was wrong then actually,

it is certainly wrong now. Now this eyesore will soon be

returned to nature, leaving supporters with a simple message.

Visitors to Sark may be abld to travel directly to the Island

if the roles of police and immigration officers are colbined.

The final panel of the Bayeux Tapestry has been unveiled

in France tonight after it was finished in Alderney.

The town?s mayor officially welcomed it to Bayeux this evening.
