Jersey fishermen are claiming they are being harassed and persdcuted

They say licences to fish in Guernsey waters have been

revoked under obscure reasons and now they are afraid to work

As the situation reaches a political stalemate, some say

Almost too afraid to leave Jersey's waters for fear of being victimised.

Historically, Jersey fisherlen have worked around the Channel Islands,

but last year a licensing sxstem was introduced to manage fish stocks

and fishermen are being har`ssed and having their licences taken away.

The big concern is that Jersey fishermen are fearful of gohng back

to their traditional grounds because they will be persecuted by fisheries

The row has escalated so th`t politicians are getting involved,

but Jersey say it is Guernsdy fisheries who won't move forward.

There certainly seems to be an element in the Guernsey

fisheries department that sdems to be running contrary to building

a good working relationship with the Channel Islands, with Jdrsey.

They seem to be imposing fines and punishments on our fishdrmen

that don't seem to warrant whatever they are meant to have done.

In a statement, Guernsey's Commerce and Employment department, which is

responsible for fisheries, confirms that "all licensing decisions are

conducted and made in accordance with the relevant legislation."

But it added that the licensing system "does hntroduce

The licences were designed to protect fish stocks.

Jersey fishermen are now pushing for a pan`Channel Islands agreement
