rain from the east. That's all from the BBC News At Six. | :00:00. | :00:00.
fearing a disastrous year. The meadows 8 | :00:00. | :00:00.
Tonight, on BBC London News. Security measures are to be lifted | :00:00. | :00:11.
on six terror suspects. Labour say the men could pose a considerable | :00:12. | :00:17.
threat. Can she put her hand on her heart today and tell us she is | :00:18. | :00:20.
confident she is doing the right thing for the British people? | :00:21. | :00:25.
Tonight, the Home Secretary insists security will not be jeopardised. | :00:26. | :00:29.
Also tonight: Treating the growing number of cancer patients in the | :00:30. | :00:33.
capital. NHS bosses reveal a plan to save 1,000 more lives every year. | :00:34. | :00:38.
Plus, the UK's first motorway services pub opens on the M40. We | :00:39. | :00:47.
will ask, is this pub a relaxing break for drivers, or a dangerous | :00:48. | :00:53.
temptation? And, behind the mask, BAFTA winners and nominees past and | :00:54. | :00:56.
present as seen through the lens of one London photographer. | :00:57. | :01:12.
Hello and good evening. Security measures on six terror suspects are | :01:13. | :01:17.
to be lifted this week, one of whom had plans to launch a major attack | :01:18. | :01:23.
on the capital. They are to be let free because of a two`year limit on | :01:24. | :01:28.
the Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures which | :01:29. | :01:33.
restrict their movements. Labour say the men still pose a considerable | :01:34. | :01:36.
threat and have accused the Government of putting Londoners in | :01:37. | :01:40.
danger. Today, Theresa May says the sex suspects will remain under | :01:41. | :01:45.
surveillance. This is Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed, trying to evade attempts | :01:46. | :01:50.
to keep him under surveillance. Ever since the bomb beings on the London | :01:51. | :01:56.
Tube in 2005, keeping a watchful eye on those expected of serious | :01:57. | :02:01.
terrorist activity before they cause harm has been a top priority for | :02:02. | :02:06.
government. Control orders were used on suspects like Abu Qatada. | :02:07. | :02:16.
They could be rehoused away from their hometown and subjected to | :02:17. | :02:23.
16`hour curfews. These were replaced by terrorism and prevention and | :02:24. | :02:27.
investigation measures. Today the opposition challenged the Home | :02:28. | :02:30.
Secretary on their effectiveness. Can she get up and tell us she's not | :02:31. | :02:35.
doing exactly that? Can she put her hand on her heart today and tell us | :02:36. | :02:40.
she's confident she's doing the right thing for the British people | :02:41. | :02:49.
by removing these TPims from the six individuals this month? TPims were | :02:50. | :02:54.
less restrictive and lasted for two years. Suspects can be tagged and | :02:55. | :02:59.
report regularly to the police am they are allowed to mobile phone and | :03:00. | :03:03.
access to the internet and can apply to the courts to stay away from | :03:04. | :03:08.
home. Theresa May today defended the Government's position. I completely | :03:09. | :03:11.
reject the suggestion, which the opposition is ut ping about, that | :03:12. | :03:14.
the police and security service have not carried out proper risk | :03:15. | :03:17.
assessments of these individuals. They have done so because that is | :03:18. | :03:23.
their job. The they have put in place specific, tailored plans to | :03:24. | :03:31.
deal with each individual. Human rights rights organise Liberty say | :03:32. | :03:38.
that neither set of terms work effectively. We let them stay in our | :03:39. | :03:44.
communities and tip them off about the fact they might cause trouble. | :03:45. | :03:51.
That in itself prevents us gathering evidence to prosecute them. It has | :03:52. | :03:54.
been a fail you usual of public policy. Kurt joins me now. What else | :03:55. | :04:01.
is the Government doing about any terror threats? What they won't do | :04:02. | :04:08.
is take their eye of these six people. This started in 2005. An | :04:09. | :04:13.
attempt to prevent recurrence of terrorism atrocities. You will have | :04:14. | :04:17.
to remember with suicide bombing`type atrocities there is no | :04:18. | :04:20.
warning. Therefore, the Government, and the agencies of the Government, | :04:21. | :04:24.
have to intervene earlier on in the chain. Control orders came first. | :04:25. | :04:29.
Replaced by TPims. What I'd say, this Government has gone actually | :04:30. | :04:34.
one stage further than that even, with certain suspects, particularly | :04:35. | :04:38.
those who have been overseas fighting, for example in Syria, if | :04:39. | :04:42.
they have dual nationality they will actually withdraw their citizenship. | :04:43. | :04:46.
The Government's prepared to go a long way to make sure it keeps the | :04:47. | :04:50.
public safe. Of course the thing that will keep us all safe is to | :04:51. | :04:54.
make sure that there's proper debate and that parliament scrunitises | :04:55. | :05:00.
every single detail. Kurt, thank you very much. Many flood victims living | :05:01. | :05:08.
along the Thames are still unable to return to their homes almost a month | :05:09. | :05:12.
after their properties were damaged by heavy rainfall. There is a | :05:13. | :05:15.
flagged warning in place for the Henley stretch of the River. | :05:16. | :05:21.
Residents are facing repairs bills running into tens of thousands of | :05:22. | :05:25.
pounds. Feels like a never`ending job, according to staff, cleaning up | :05:26. | :05:30.
after the worst floods here anyone can remember. This activity centre | :05:31. | :05:35.
in Marlow is a charity and relies on volunteers, but without the help of | :05:36. | :05:39.
local people, they say, they simply won't get on their feet again before | :05:40. | :05:43.
their first visitors come next month. We expected it to flood, not | :05:44. | :05:51.
as high as we did flood. Fridges, freezers, ovens, all the office | :05:52. | :05:55.
furniture, filing cabinets, everything you can think of that | :05:56. | :05:59.
would be in an office and environment like this is now wet and | :06:00. | :06:03.
is in the skip. Further upstream, in the village of Wargrave and many | :06:04. | :06:07.
residents still haven't been able to move back to their homes. Those who | :06:08. | :06:12.
have, are being told to boil their tap water. Their clean`up is still | :06:13. | :06:16.
some way off. Every time there's a dry day like this, it's a blessing | :06:17. | :06:21.
for people living around here. Although the water is it still deep | :06:22. | :06:25.
it's starting to go down. You have to remember that the heavy rains | :06:26. | :06:29.
came around Christmas time. People have been living like this for | :06:30. | :06:33.
almost a month. All they want is to come out of their front door and to | :06:34. | :06:39.
step on to dry land. With many roads still closed and drives flooded, | :06:40. | :06:43.
it's been especially challenging for those families who need medical | :06:44. | :06:47.
supplies. Jeff's wife is diabetic. It's a bit of a worry, but I'm sure | :06:48. | :06:55.
the services would be there if we need. You try not to panic too much | :06:56. | :07:02.
or else you wouldn't sleep. Back in Marlow, things are beginning to dry | :07:03. | :07:09.
out. With ?100,000 worth of damage to contend with, for the charity the | :07:10. | :07:17.
crisis certainly isn't over. A 16`year`old boy has died after it's | :07:18. | :07:23.
believed he took ecstasy at a West London rave. Daniel was taken to | :07:24. | :07:27.
hospital on Saturday morning after going to the party at an industrial | :07:28. | :07:32.
estate in Haze. He died in hospital yesterday. Two men have been | :07:33. | :07:35.
arrested for supplying controlled drugs. Three Tottenham Hotspur fans | :07:36. | :07:41.
have been charged for using racially abusive language. The incidents | :07:42. | :07:47.
happened in games against FC Sheriff in the Europa league and West Ham | :07:48. | :07:52.
United in the Premier League. The trust are saddened by the decision. | :07:53. | :07:57.
The men are due to appear at Hendon Magistrates' Court in February. Tube | :07:58. | :08:20.
bosses and union representatives have begun talks aimed at averting | :08:21. | :08:23.
strikes by London Underground workers next month. Members of the | :08:24. | :08:26.
RMT Union are due to stage two 48`hour walkouts over plans to close | :08:27. | :08:29.
ticket offices and cut hundreds of jobs. Transport for London says | :08:30. | :08:32.
there won't be any compulsory redundancies and customer service | :08:33. | :08:37.
will not be affected. A thousand lives could be saved in the capital | :08:38. | :08:40.
every year, if cancer services are improved. That's the claim made by | :08:41. | :08:43.
the NHS in London, which today launched its five`year strategy for | :08:44. | :08:46.
tackling the disease. Doctors say survival rates are increasing, but | :08:47. | :08:49.
could be improved with a better take`up of screening programmes and | :08:50. | :08:51.
if more GPs recognised the symptoms. Katharine Carpenter reports. | :08:52. | :08:53.
Diagnosed in November November, Peter Smith says the fact he has | :08:54. | :08:56.
cancer hasn't really sunk in. In London, around three people an hour | :08:57. | :08:58.
get similar news, but the speed of diagnosis and the treatment they | :08:59. | :09:00.
receive varies across the capital, with many unhappy with their | :09:01. | :09:04.
experience in hospital. Here at the University College Hospital | :09:05. | :09:09.
Macmillan Cancer Centre, they are at the forefront of changing that. The | :09:10. | :09:16.
care I've had has been brilliant. I didn't know much about chemothearpy | :09:17. | :09:21.
before hand. It's been a lot easier than what I thought it was going to | :09:22. | :09:33.
be, mainly due to the nurses. They want to raise awareness of cancer | :09:34. | :09:37.
prevention schemes and make sure people across London go for | :09:38. | :09:42.
screening as well as having access to these services. They have brought | :09:43. | :09:44.
together doctors, patients and charities who sl have set out a | :09:45. | :09:48.
series of recommendations including how to improve early detection | :09:49. | :09:53.
rates. Unfortunately, over a quarter of cancers get diagnosed in A If | :09:54. | :09:58.
we change the way we treat cancer, the way we detect it early, work | :09:59. | :10:02.
with the public, help people change their life styles, we could achieve | :10:03. | :10:07.
so much more in terms of outcomes. We think we could save over 1,000 | :10:08. | :10:14.
flooifs London per per annum. Rates are increasing. Many people will | :10:15. | :10:19.
live with cancer on its side effects long`term, presenting new | :10:20. | :10:23.
challenges. Rather than see cancer as dominating their lives. Their | :10:24. | :10:26.
lives can be increasingly to the forefront. Centres like this allow | :10:27. | :10:30.
people to come in, have their care and go home. Come in, stay in our | :10:31. | :10:34.
hotel, and come here and then go home. Improving cancer prevention, | :10:35. | :10:38.
detection and treatment in the capital all at once won't be easy, | :10:39. | :10:43.
until now many services have fallen short. The NHS knows the need for | :10:44. | :10:57.
change is urgent. Meanwhile, a leading health charity says the NHS | :10:58. | :11:00.
isn't doing enough to tackle an equally fatal illness. Only 15% of | :11:01. | :11:03.
those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive. The Brain Tumour Charity | :11:04. | :11:06.
says GPs should be better trained to diagnose the symptoms. One patient | :11:07. | :11:09.
from Croydon, who had a brain tumour that almost killed her, was | :11:10. | :11:11.
mis`diagnosed five times. Alex Bushill has the story. | :11:12. | :11:22.
They have endured two or deals, having to convince doctors to take | :11:23. | :11:30.
them seriously as well as having a brain tumour. They will not taking | :11:31. | :11:34.
notice of her. Despite me telling them there was something wrong, they | :11:35. | :11:38.
told me there is nothing wrong. They said to me, they are the doctors, | :11:39. | :11:42.
not us. Yet, you were right? Yes. Maybe my time had come because | :11:43. | :11:47.
nobody wanted to know. Nobody wanted to help. He had to fight all the | :11:48. | :11:53.
way. You know to get me where I am. He's my hero. He saved my life. Over | :11:54. | :11:57.
eight months, three separate doctors at this practice dismissed their | :11:58. | :12:02.
fears that she had a brain tumour. . Refused to give her an M R scan. | :12:03. | :12:11.
They test her for everything else, all the time her condition was | :12:12. | :12:14.
deteriorating. Within a few weeks she was enable to walk a few yards | :12:15. | :12:21.
without falling over. They paid for a private MRI scan. The day after | :12:22. | :12:26.
Sheila collapsed and was brought to Croydon's University Hospital A | :12:27. | :12:31.
she had a 5cm tumour by her brain stem. She was operated on two`days | :12:32. | :12:35.
later. Any longer and she would have died. Their experience isn't unique. | :12:36. | :12:40.
For the Brain Tumour Charity there is concern that GPs are not better | :12:41. | :12:44.
trained to recognise the symptoms. We did a survey, 38% of those people | :12:45. | :12:49.
who responded had to visit their GP five or more times before they got | :12:50. | :12:54.
referred. As we know, to diagnose a brain tumour you need a scan. For a | :12:55. | :12:57.
GP, they can't do that particularly when they have so many other | :12:58. | :13:01.
priorities. Referring somebody on when they have signs and symptoms is | :13:02. | :13:08.
vital. For the doctors, the GHandi's said failed them they refused to | :13:09. | :13:14.
comment citing patient confidentiality. Sheila says it's | :13:15. | :13:19.
too short to blame anyone she just praises God she's alive to tell her | :13:20. | :13:30.
story. 56`year`old windel Baker was found guilty last year of subjecting | :13:31. | :13:33.
his victim to what the judge described as "extreme violence and | :13:34. | :13:39.
exceptional depravity." Our reporter is outside the Court of Appeal with | :13:40. | :13:47.
more details. Mr Baker was by all accounts a dangerous man. In 1997 | :13:48. | :13:53.
#4e beat and raped his victim 66`year`old Hazel Blackwell and | :13:54. | :13:57.
locked her in a cupboard in her own home where she would have died were | :13:58. | :14:00.
it not for a neighbour who happened to be passing by. Now, after the | :14:01. | :14:04.
attack Hazel was left too scared to continue living on her own, too | :14:05. | :14:09.
afraid to go outside on her own. Her family said when she died in 2002 | :14:10. | :14:15.
she had a broken heart. She wasn't around to see Mr Baker be sentenced | :14:16. | :14:21.
last year for his crime. A sentence of 10 years and six months. A | :14:22. | :14:25.
punishment which her family said fit the crime. Today, three Appeal Court | :14:26. | :14:31.
judges disagreed on basically what is a technicality. They reduced that | :14:32. | :14:37.
minimum sentence by two years. The sentence he will have to serve | :14:38. | :14:41.
before being eligible for parole. Wasn't a clear`cut case in the first | :14:42. | :14:47.
place, was it? No. That's right. You should be seeing pictures now of | :14:48. | :14:52.
when a BBC crew tried to approach him back in 2009. By that time, he'd | :14:53. | :14:58.
already been arrested and tried in connection with the rape, but the | :14:59. | :15:03.
case had fallen through. It was eventually re`opened. As we know, he | :15:04. | :15:08.
was found guilty and sentenced. Appeal Court judges here today were | :15:09. | :15:12.
keen to stress that although they reduced the sentence by two years, | :15:13. | :15:18.
Wendell Baker will only be released when it is safe to do so. Back to | :15:19. | :15:20.
you. Stay with us. | :15:21. | :15:32.
Still to come: The plan to turn one of the west End's oldest cinemas | :15:33. | :15:35.
into a hotel, and why campaigners are fighting the move. | :15:36. | :15:47.
And as we approach the awards, I will be speaking to the photographer | :15:48. | :15:51.
who spent over 20 years shooting BAFTA winners and nominees. His work | :15:52. | :15:56.
is on show here at Somerset House in an exhibition. The UK's first | :15:57. | :16:07.
motorway service station pub has opened in Buckinghamshire. The venue | :16:08. | :16:12.
on the M40, which is open 24 hours a day, hasn't been welcomed by road | :16:13. | :16:17.
safety campaigners, who say it sends out the wrong message. Like all | :16:18. | :16:25.
service areas, this one off junction two of the M40, can offer drivers a | :16:26. | :16:31.
lifeline. They can buy a coffee or a newspaper, or do food shopping. For | :16:32. | :16:36.
the first time in the UK, now you can go to the pub. The Hope and | :16:37. | :16:42.
Champion opened this morning. It will be serving alcohol from 9am | :16:43. | :16:50.
until 1am. Not everyone is happy. Lunchtime at Britain's first | :16:51. | :16:55.
motorway pub. Is this a relaxing break for drivers, or a temptation | :16:56. | :17:04.
to drink and drive dangerously? If it's within the legal limit, I don't | :17:05. | :17:09.
think it makes any difference. It's just another pub. It's going to be | :17:10. | :17:14.
open people `` to people drinking too much and driving. If you are | :17:15. | :17:20.
going to drink and drive, you will do it anyway. It doesn't matter if | :17:21. | :17:26.
there's a bar there or not. The owners say drivers can already buy | :17:27. | :17:30.
alcohol at service area shops, and can consume it anywhere en route. | :17:31. | :17:36.
They say they are taking steps to stop their customers drinking | :17:37. | :17:39.
irresponsibly. We're not going to ask people if they are driving or | :17:40. | :17:44.
not. We put soft drinks at the lowest prices we can possibly | :17:45. | :17:49.
offer. We don't have any drinks promotions. The staff are being | :17:50. | :17:53.
trained to look at people they don't think should drink any more. The | :17:54. | :17:56.
drinks or a bit more expensive than in other pubs. Health and is a | :17:57. | :18:02.
campaigners are outraged. They say any alcohol can impair judgement, | :18:03. | :18:08.
especially at high speeds. These areas are designed to be rest areas | :18:09. | :18:14.
for tired, stressed drivers, and the idea of a tired, stressed driver | :18:15. | :18:18.
having a drink... He may not go above the limit, but any alcohol | :18:19. | :18:27.
does impair motor function. The pub owners say is this bar is a | :18:28. | :18:31.
success, they will consider opening more on other motorways across the | :18:32. | :18:35.
UK. As you can see, the pub is filling | :18:36. | :18:41.
up. The bar is getting very busy, but drivers have told us it's not | :18:42. | :18:46.
going to in courage them to drive irresponsibly. Apparently neither | :18:47. | :18:49.
the police nor the licensing authorities have objected to this | :18:50. | :18:53.
pub, but critics say they will continue to stop any more like this | :18:54. | :18:57.
opening on any other motorways in the UK. Thank you. The former Spurs | :18:58. | :19:07.
player and manager Ozzie Ardiles is in hospital following a car accident | :19:08. | :19:13.
which left him needing several stitches to his head. It happened on | :19:14. | :19:19.
the Falkland islands, where he was filming a documentary. | :19:20. | :19:23.
The future of one of London's oldest cinemas is to be decided tonight. | :19:24. | :19:26.
Westminster Council is voting on a proposal to knock down the Odeon | :19:27. | :19:29.
West End in Leicester Square, which opened in 1930, and turn it into a | :19:30. | :19:33.
hotel. It's a plan opposed by a number of campaign groups. Ayshea | :19:34. | :19:42.
Buksh has more. It's one of the oldest cinema in | :19:43. | :19:46.
London, and behind its modern billboards lie years of history. | :19:47. | :19:55.
Built in 1930, the Odeon West End was originally called the Leicester | :19:56. | :20:02.
Square Theatre, where music Hall, variety and cabaret were performed. | :20:03. | :20:06.
It's feared that heritage and its art Eco architecture could be lost | :20:07. | :20:13.
if it is pulled down. Our concern is the actual material lost, the fabric | :20:14. | :20:18.
of the cinema, which we think makes a contribution to Leicester Square. | :20:19. | :20:24.
There's an enormous range of building types and dates here, many | :20:25. | :20:28.
of which are special, and we feel this cinema contributes to that. | :20:29. | :20:35.
Odeon sold the site eight years ago, and many of the surrounding sites | :20:36. | :20:40.
are now derelict. This is what the News scheme is meant to look like. | :20:41. | :20:46.
It includes a new hotel and spa. Developers say there will still be a | :20:47. | :20:51.
cinema on site that will be able to host events and premiers. The cinema | :20:52. | :20:56.
chain Odeon says they are supportive of the plans. Locals and visitors to | :20:57. | :21:02.
the square had mixed feelings about the plans. I don't like it. I like | :21:03. | :21:10.
old stuff. These are not very good 1930s buildings. There are better | :21:11. | :21:14.
ones to be saved elsewhere. The whole square is a bit of a mess. I | :21:15. | :21:19.
can't see it doing too much damage. I think it's a dreadful idea. You | :21:20. | :21:24.
should keep London as intact as possible as it is. There's been too | :21:25. | :21:30.
much renovation, too much listed buildings being brought down. | :21:31. | :21:35.
English Heritage say if the scheme gets the go`ahead, they hope the | :21:36. | :21:39.
developers will incorporate the facade into the design. | :21:40. | :21:43.
They're images of film stars who have one thing in common ` they're | :21:44. | :21:46.
all BAFTA winners or nominees. The portraits are part of a new | :21:47. | :21:48.
exhibition by London photographer Andy Gotts, who's been taking photos | :21:49. | :21:52.
of celebrities for 20 years. Our arts correspondent, Brenda Emmanus, | :21:53. | :21:55.
has been to Somerset House to take a look. | :21:56. | :22:03.
A portrait of the young Johnny Depp sits alongside Lauren Bacall and | :22:04. | :22:09.
Helena Bonham`Carter, all shot by photographer Andy Gotts, and | :22:10. | :22:13.
featured in a new exhibition of his work, showcasing some of the most | :22:14. | :22:17.
famous faces shown on the Biggs Green. `` on the big screen. When I | :22:18. | :22:27.
go to see the actors, I don't have anything with me. When it is just | :22:28. | :22:31.
you and the other person, a friendship starts. I hear stories | :22:32. | :22:37.
you wouldn't read in any magazine. Although he's been shooting | :22:38. | :22:40.
celebrities for over two decades, this project came together in the | :22:41. | :22:44.
last three years, with Andy travelling the globe to shoot his | :22:45. | :22:49.
subjects. Taking over the entire West Wing of Somerset House, Behind | :22:50. | :22:58.
The Mask is a photographic census of over 100 international actors who | :22:59. | :23:01.
have either won or been nominated for BAFTAs. I was so lucky that my | :23:02. | :23:08.
first ever famous person was Stephen Fry. He's the reason why I do what I | :23:09. | :23:14.
do. If it wasn't for him being so lovely, I wouldn't have done this | :23:15. | :23:19.
style of photography. He made it so easy and so natural. I wanted to | :23:20. | :23:27.
photograph people just like him. But it was Tony Curtis who left Andy | :23:28. | :23:32.
with his most poignant memories, and inspired what he considered to be | :23:33. | :23:38.
one of his favourite portraits. In the morning, Tony saw the picture. | :23:39. | :23:43.
It is quite startling picture. He said to his wife, this is the best | :23:44. | :23:48.
picture I've ever seen of myself. Then he died in the afternoon. To | :23:49. | :23:54.
me, I don't think I will ever take another picture that will touch me | :23:55. | :23:58.
as much as that picture, because I know that's the last ever picture | :23:59. | :24:02.
taken of him, and I know he loved it. The exhibition is free and runs | :24:03. | :24:11.
until February the 7th. How's this for a different kind of | :24:12. | :24:16.
picture. The Trotters, Del boy and Robbie, have reunited for Sport | :24:17. | :24:22.
Relief, and they are bringing them to Peckham. He is joining the only | :24:23. | :24:28.
full sun horses cast in a special sketch for Sport Relief, which you | :24:29. | :24:32.
can see on Friday the 1st of March on BBC One. | :24:33. | :24:33.
Time for the weather. It was a foggy start to the day. We | :24:34. | :24:45.
have had some high pressure over the past few days, so things have been | :24:46. | :24:49.
relatively settled. The spinning globe shows a few rain globes | :24:50. | :24:54.
overnight, which means things are going to be a bit unsettled. You can | :24:55. | :25:01.
see the extent of the fog right across East Anglia today, right into | :25:02. | :25:06.
Kent and the Home Counties, and how that melted away through the morning | :25:07. | :25:10.
to give us an afternoon sunshine. Behind me is a mass of cloud which | :25:11. | :25:17.
is coming through tonight. Therefore it does so, we will have a fair | :25:18. | :25:21.
amount of clear sky in the next few hours. Parts of Kent and Essex just | :25:22. | :25:27.
about cold enough for a touch of frost in places. Not as cold as last | :25:28. | :25:32.
night. After midnight, it will cloud over. Haq ship and Surrey starting | :25:33. | :25:38.
to see the rain around midnight. It won't be late until `` it won't be | :25:39. | :25:44.
long until it gets elsewhere. The wind is going to be increasing as | :25:45. | :25:49.
well, Schurrle bit of a damp start tomorrow. That clears away, and | :25:50. | :25:56.
there will be a bit of damp cloud behind it. Temperatures might not | :25:57. | :26:02.
feel quite as mild as it looks, as we have cloud following through. We | :26:03. | :26:06.
also have the risk of some heavy showers into the afternoon. Not for | :26:07. | :26:14.
everyone, but some heavy ones going through tomorrow afternoon and | :26:15. | :26:17.
evening. Thursday, a mixed bag again. There will be some heavy | :26:18. | :26:22.
showers, particularly the further east you go. I suspect many places | :26:23. | :26:28.
will have a fairly dry day with some sunshine. Friday, largely | :26:29. | :26:33.
drive`through daylight hours. Overnight into Saturday, another | :26:34. | :26:39.
spell of rain through. Back to those on settled conditions at the | :26:40. | :26:41.
weekend. Thank you. | :26:42. | :26:44.
The main headlines: The Syrian Government has been accused of | :26:45. | :26:47.
systematically killing and torturing around 11,000 prisoners. | :26:48. | :26:51.
The claims in a report by three former war crimes prosecutors have | :26:52. | :26:53.
been denied by the Syrian authorities. | :26:54. | :26:57.
Energy companies have been accused of utter complacency by MPs over | :26:58. | :27:00.
their response to power cuts during storms over Christmas. Around | :27:01. | :27:04.
750,000 homes and businesses were affected. | :27:05. | :27:08.
The west Bromwich Albion striker, Nicolas Anelka, has been charged by | :27:09. | :27:11.
the FA over allegedly making an inverted Nazi salute at a match last | :27:12. | :27:17.
year. Anelka says the gesture was anti`establishment, not | :27:18. | :27:21.
anti`Semitic. And London health bosses have | :27:22. | :27:23.
announced plans to deal with the growing number of people developing | :27:24. | :27:27.
cancer. Over thirty thousand Londoners are currently diagnosed | :27:28. | :27:33.
with the disease every year. More on the day's stories on our | :27:34. | :27:37.
website. I'll be back with our late news. Thanks for watching and have a | :27:38. | :27:40.
lovely evening. | :27:41. | :27:46. |
