Good evening. Disruption on the Tube is already being felt after the | :00:19. | :00:22.
48`hour strike got underway this evening. There are severe delays and | :00:23. | :00:25.
part suspensions on some lines. The walk`out which began at 9:00pm is | :00:26. | :00:28.
over plans to close all ticket offices and cut jobs. Another | :00:29. | :00:32.
two`day strike is planned for next week. Here's our Transport | :00:33. | :00:33.
Correspondent Tom Edwards. In home late, and commuters are | :00:34. | :00:48.
facing problems already as union members walked out of 24 hours and | :00:49. | :00:54.
more disruption tomorrow. Painfully annoying, so there are buses and | :00:55. | :01:01.
mainline trains. I'm a bit annoyed, but I'll doubt it don't have any | :01:02. | :01:07.
choice. He did promise to keep the ticket booths open, and that's not | :01:08. | :01:10.
happening, so I understand why the unions want to make a big deal out | :01:11. | :01:16.
of it. This morning, in an extremely unusual move, union bosses were at | :01:17. | :01:20.
City Hall. They wanted to talk to the London mayor directly. They did | :01:21. | :01:24.
talk via a radio phone in, but this was the day negotiations never | :01:25. | :01:29.
started. It will make absolutely no difference to the long`term future | :01:30. | :01:34.
of their members and it won't do anything for London Underground | :01:35. | :01:36.
It's completely the wrong way forward. They need to get to the | :01:37. | :01:39.
table, call of the strike and begin negotiating. If more people want to | :01:40. | :01:45.
use London Underground, and this is an increasing industry, a growing | :01:46. | :01:49.
industry, hundreds of thousands more people will use the London | :01:50. | :01:52.
Underground, so the last thing you want to do is take out 1000 jobs if | :01:53. | :01:57.
you want to use the services more. The strike is over 950 job losses | :01:58. | :02:01.
and the closure of all ticket offices. The Oyster card means they | :02:02. | :02:06.
are not needed, says London Underground and it will seek to | :02:07. | :02:09.
avoid compulsory redundancies, but the union have safety concerns. This | :02:10. | :02:15.
new company has a launch party in the city tomorrow. I think it could | :02:16. | :02:21.
really blow a hole in our plans We could end up with half the people | :02:22. | :02:25.
that we thought were coming in coming. Not far away, strike | :02:26. | :02:32.
supporters have supported all day. The strikers are defending their | :02:33. | :02:36.
jobs. They are also defending the service they are giving. At the | :02:37. | :02:41.
moment in this dispute both sides are entrenched. Another strike is | :02:42. | :02:46.
planned for this time next week And Tom's outside Warren Street Station | :02:47. | :02:49.
now, and there's been a lot of political reaction to the strike? | :02:50. | :02:56.
Yes, tonight the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition both | :02:57. | :02:58.
condemned the strike. David Cameron said it was shameful, and Ed | :02:59. | :03:03.
Miliband said it should not have gone ahead. Harriet Harman, the | :03:04. | :03:07.
deputy leader, said both sides needed their heads knocking | :03:08. | :03:12.
together. I think lots of commuters would have sympathy with that | :03:13. | :03:17.
sentiment tonight. The strike already having an impact on | :03:18. | :03:22.
services? Yes, but I have to say it is quiet in town and a lot of people | :03:23. | :03:26.
have gone home already. However there are already problems. The | :03:27. | :03:30.
Jubilee line is already part suspended. Six lines have severe | :03:31. | :03:34.
delays. The bad news for commuters is it will be even worse in rush | :03:35. | :03:36.
tomorrow. Daschle rush`hour tomorrow. So the | :03:37. | :03:46.
strike will affect all Underground lines with only limited services | :03:47. | :03:49.
expected over the next two days Alice Bhandhukravi has more details | :03:50. | :03:52.
on just how it'll affect travel in the capital. | :03:53. | :03:56.
Heading home tonight and planning how they will get around the next | :03:57. | :04:01.
two days. It's likely to be a challenging 48 hours for commuters. | :04:02. | :04:07.
Everybody will be on the road, on buses, on bikes, and that will slow | :04:08. | :04:12.
it down. It's going to affect me coming into work, the two days, so | :04:13. | :04:17.
it has a huge impact. I am working a long day, so I have to find a way of | :04:18. | :04:22.
getting the bus at about 5:30am in the morning. We don't know exactly | :04:23. | :04:27.
how badly services will be affected, but here is what we do | :04:28. | :04:31.
know. There will be disruption on all lines. Trains that are running | :04:32. | :04:36.
will operate between every six and 20 minutes with services starting | :04:37. | :04:40.
later than normal at 7am and finishing early at 11pm. The picture | :04:41. | :04:45.
is pretty complicated, but to give you an idea of how the tube will | :04:46. | :04:51.
run, let's look at some examples. On the Central line, no trains in the | :04:52. | :04:55.
middle section between White city and Leytonstone, but there will be | :04:56. | :04:58.
some services at either end. It s a similar search `` situation on the | :04:59. | :05:03.
Piccadilly line, no service in central London from Acton town do | :05:04. | :05:06.
not growth but the outer edges will have a similar service. One of the | :05:07. | :05:13.
difficulties is you have to have a minimum number of staff for safety | :05:14. | :05:16.
reasons. Safety is always the number one priority. When we have a number | :05:17. | :05:21.
of people supporting the service and we have to distribute them around | :05:22. | :05:24.
the network we have to do it to the best of our ability, so we're trying | :05:25. | :05:29.
to create an integrated service So how else can you get around town? | :05:30. | :05:33.
The DLR, London Overground and tram services will operate as normal | :05:34. | :05:38.
There will be extra buses and river bus services, and Londoners are | :05:39. | :05:41.
being advised to consider cycling and walking to work. Of course, it | :05:42. | :05:47.
is a changing picture. You can keep up`to`date on the BBC London website | :05:48. | :05:49.

And as you heard there you can head to our website at bbc.co.uk/London, | :05:55. | :05:59.
where our Local Live page will be updated with the latest travel | :06:00. | :06:01.
information from 6:00am tomorrow morning. | :06:02. | :06:06.
Let's get a check on tomorrow's weather, as well, with Wendy. | :06:07. | :06:14.
It will only add to the woes, cycling, walking, standing up bus | :06:15. | :06:21.
queues will not be fun tomorrow Serious weather coming our way, all | :06:22. | :06:24.
covered by a yellow weather warning with gusty winds up to 50 mph and 50 | :06:25. | :06:29.
millimetres of rain on top of what we've already had. We just don't | :06:30. | :06:32.
need it. It's already started raining across London and the heavy | :06:33. | :06:35.
stuff will come through at midnight, and with that the gusty winds. | :06:36. | :06:40.
Temperatures overnight down to four or five Celsius. We start tomorrow | :06:41. | :06:45.
with bright spells, but also heavy showers and strong winds. Parts of | :06:46. | :06:50.
Surrey, towards the coast and Kent, that will have an amber warning in | :06:51. | :06:55.
place for those strong winds. Then we have the showers continuing till | :06:56. | :07:00.
tomorrow afternoon, the heaviest with temperatures of about 10 | :07:01. | :07:05.
Celsius. Not much fun tomorrow. Bright to start with on Thursday, | :07:06. | :07:09.
less breezy, but heavy, persistent rain overnight into Friday which we | :07:10. | :07:13.
will tell you about in the National forecast coming up. That's | :07:14. | :07:15.
We will of course have the latest on the travel situation in our | :07:16. | :07:19.
bulletins during Breakfast tomorrow morning. From us here, goodnight. | :07:20. | :07:36.
Good evening. Much like the local forecast, the national picture is a | :07:37. | :07:42.
stormy one in the next 24 hours The Met Office have issued an amber | :07:43. | :07:46.
weather warning for strong winds across southern counties. Wilts up | :07:47. | :07:50.
to Surrey in particular. There will be some transport disruption, no | :07:51. | :07:55.
doubt, and it could go beyond that, so if you're travelling across the | :07:56. | :07:58.
country there could be transport and power disruption and with more rain | :07:59. | :08:01.
in the forecast, further flooding where areas have flooded and some | :08:02. | :08:07.
very strong winds and high seas Southern coastal counties of England | :08:08. | :08:13.
and Wales have been troubled, but Dorset sees three severe flood | :08:14. | :08:18.
warnings, and more details on them on our own website. Still some very | :08:19. | :08:23.
strong winds and heavy rain although it is set to ease off in the next | :08:24. | :08:26.
hour. The strongest winds will be on the back edge of this band of more | :08:27. | :08:32.
persistent rain which extends across much of England, Northern Ireland | :08:33. | :08:33. |
