in London after the head of governors confirmed that a convicted | :01:23. | :01:26.
paedophile had abused children whilst teaching there. Willham | :01:27. | :01:32.

Yard, who are working with the AI in America, have just confirmed that | :01:41. | :01:44.
images of between 50 and 60 pupils from the school were found on | :01:45. | :01:48.
Vahey's computer. Let's get more from Sonja Jessup, who is ottside | :01:49. | :01:55.
the school in Portland Placd. There is deep shock here at the school | :01:56. | :02:01.
tonight that a teacher described as popular should have such a dark | :02:02. | :02:05.
secret. This is an elite, fde`paying school. Parents here did not want to | :02:06. | :02:11.
talk to us on camera today, but there are clearly many unanswered | :02:12. | :02:14.
questions about the man thex thought they knew. | :02:15. | :02:19.
William Vahey was a trusted teacher, now exposed as a | :02:20. | :02:24.
manipulative paedophile. In 196 , he had been jailed in Californha for | :02:25. | :02:29.
child abuse. Three years later, he was teaching in private schools | :02:30. | :02:33.
across nine different countries In 2009, he came here to Southbank | :02:34. | :02:37.
international school, providing an elite education for the children of | :02:38. | :02:42.
foreign executives and diplomats. Vahey left the school last xear He | :02:43. | :02:47.
went to teach in Nicaragua, where his dark past was finally | :02:48. | :02:49.
discovered. His employer fotnd a memory stick containing inddcent | :02:50. | :02:54.
images of at least 90 young boys. They appeared to have been drugged, | :02:55. | :02:59.
and there were dates and locations that corresponded with field trips | :03:00. | :03:02.
he had taken the students on. Confronted, he confessed th`t he had | :03:03. | :03:07.
in abusing children all his life. Days later, he killed himself. | :03:08. | :03:10.
Today, Southbank International School's head of governors `nd the | :03:11. | :03:20.
former chief of staff said his pupils were among the victils. The | :03:21. | :03:24.
ER is investigating how far back his abuse went. We are not able to | :03:25. | :03:33.
determine if this 90 boys wdre the only victims or if there were | :03:34. | :03:37.
additional ones. We are talking roughly 30 to 35 years. There could | :03:38. | :03:46.
be other students whose images did not show up on the thumb drhve. We | :03:47. | :03:50.
are trying to determine if there are additional victims. This kind of | :03:51. | :03:55.
offender moves on before solebody has time to identify him and | :03:56. | :03:59.
apprehend him, and moves on to another country, another school | :04:00. | :04:03.
where he has access to children or vulnerable young people, and carries | :04:04. | :04:07.
on his offending. Sadly, it is not unusual. Sonia, many people will be | :04:08. | :04:14.
surprised that he managed to escape detection for so long. Indedd, that | :04:15. | :04:19.
is the question many will bd asking. How did he slip through the | :04:20. | :04:24.
net? The answer so far from the authorities appear to be th`t they | :04:25. | :04:26.
simply don't know. In the l`st half`hour, the school's executive | :04:27. | :04:32.
visible has confirmed that hmages of between 50 to 60 pupils frol this | :04:33. | :04:36.
school were found on Vahey's computer. The school refused to be | :04:37. | :04:40.
interviewed by us on camera today, but we understand that they have | :04:41. | :04:44.
written to parents in a letter, saying that any pupils who have | :04:45. | :04:47.
experienced anything disturbing should come forward, and also saying | :04:48. | :04:53.
that Vahey was subject did to two criminal records bureau checks, and | :04:54. | :04:57.
they did not fly got anything of concern . In the latter, thd | :04:58. | :05:00.
executive principal also sahd the parents, this disclosure has left us | :05:01. | :05:06.
all up old. As a staff, we feel upset, angry and betrayed. We can | :05:07. | :05:09.
only imagine what you as parents must feel. | :05:10. | :05:20.
More to come, including: Calls to flood proof homes. The residents who | :05:21. | :05:23.
want insurance companies to do more to protect their properties. | :05:24. | :05:33.
As you may have just heard, police have charged a 42`year`old woman who | :05:34. | :05:37.
is suspected of murdering three of her children in south`west London. | :05:38. | :05:41.
The bodies of a four`year`old girl and twin boys aged three were found | :05:42. | :05:46.
at a house in New Malden on Tuesday. The children are believed to have | :05:47. | :05:49.
had a life limiting genetic condition. Our reporter is outside | :05:50. | :05:57.
the family home with the latest Yes, Scotland Yard have confirmed in | :05:58. | :06:01.
the last few minutes that they have charged Tanya Clarence, who is 2, | :06:02. | :06:08.
with the murder of her thred children, Max and Ben, two boys aged | :06:09. | :06:14.
three, and their sister Olivia, who was four. They say she will appear | :06:15. | :06:19.
at Wimbledon magistrates cotrt tomorrow. The police also s`id a | :06:20. | :06:24.
postmortem examinations on the three children are continuing. Yot can see | :06:25. | :06:27.
that the police are still hdre, keeping an eye on the house. Detect | :06:28. | :06:33.
lives were here earlier `` detectives were here earlier. A | :06:34. | :06:36.
couple of them went inside the house and came out 20 minutes latdr with | :06:37. | :06:40.
several sacks full of possessions that they had taken as part of their | :06:41. | :06:46.
investigation. There have also been more people who live nearby and | :06:47. | :06:49.
others bringing floral tribttes to lay here on the forecourt of the | :06:50. | :06:54.
house. This morning, we saw three paramedics turn up with a bouquet of | :06:55. | :06:59.
flowers. These were three of the paramedics who were here on Tuesday | :07:00. | :07:04.
night, when the police and `mbulance was called to this property. They | :07:05. | :07:08.
were clearly moved by the experience. I spoke to Gary, | :07:09. | :07:16.
Clarence's friend in South @frica. Derek Clarence is now in thd UK and | :07:17. | :07:21.
he is said to be in a compldte state of shock `` Gary Clarence. | :07:22. | :07:30.
There is growing anger in p`rts of north London following clails that | :07:31. | :07:33.
some residents are not recehving their post. Just over a fortnight | :07:34. | :07:36.
ago, we reported that one woman retrieved hundreds of letters in | :07:37. | :07:40.
bushes in Britain. Now it h`s emerged that there have been many | :07:41. | :07:43.
more complaints about the sdrvice provided by TNT, which started | :07:44. | :07:47.
delivering mail in the capital in 2012. We will hear from the company | :07:48. | :07:53.
in a minute. Gone are the days of waiting for the | :07:54. | :07:58.
postman. Deliveries at this cul`de`sac in Mill Hill are now a | :07:59. | :08:02.
little less routine . Somethmes they arrived late at night, sometimes not | :08:03. | :08:08.
at all. Deliveries at odd thmes . Two deliveries a day, which is | :08:09. | :08:13.
unheard, especially around here because they are every other day. | :08:14. | :08:17.
And deliveries at nine o'clock at night. They were obviously hn from a | :08:18. | :08:21.
neighbour. This TNT started delivering here, two of Alexandra's | :08:22. | :08:26.
bank statements have not turned up. It is worrying, because I don't know | :08:27. | :08:30.
where they are ending up. They could be ending up in rubbish bins, they | :08:31. | :08:34.
could be in somebody else's door, or in the wrong hands. My personal | :08:35. | :08:41.
information is being given out. This is not confined to Mill Hill. There | :08:42. | :08:45.
are anecdotes coming from north and west London of similar problems | :08:46. | :08:50.
There are stories of post for a whole street being delivered through | :08:51. | :08:54.
just one door. This is just one of a number of complaints being received | :08:55. | :08:58.
by the area's assembly membdr. One lady complained to me that ` letter | :08:59. | :09:01.
she had been waiting for from a hospital took ten days to arrive. | :09:02. | :09:06.
People are complaining about them riding their bicycles at spded along | :09:07. | :09:09.
the pavement, leaving their post bags unlocked when they contain | :09:10. | :09:14.
sensitive material. TNT delhvers for a number of private businesses, | :09:15. | :09:20.
including banks and the NHS. In three years, it wants to be | :09:21. | :09:24.
delivering 40% of the UK's lail but those in the industry have their | :09:25. | :09:29.
fears. I don't think they know where they are going. You hear andcdotes | :09:30. | :09:36.
of the lease `` postmen who look like they are lost. Those in Mill | :09:37. | :09:39.
Hill are now worried about their summer holidays and what will happen | :09:40. | :09:43.
when they are not around to carry out their mini deliveries. | :09:44. | :09:49.
I am joined now by the head of TNT Post UK, Nick Wells. You have got a | :09:50. | :09:56.
major problem, haven't you? Well, I would say that TNT Post gendrally | :09:57. | :10:00.
delivers a high quality levdl of service. However, there are isolated | :10:01. | :10:05.
incidents that we have seen that let us down and let our customers down | :10:06. | :10:10.
and where we do not meet thd high standards we set ourselves. But we | :10:11. | :10:15.
will work tirelessly to look into these incidents. What are you going | :10:16. | :10:24.
to do? Well, we have 3000 posties. Our loss rate is about one hn | :10:25. | :10:29.
30,000. But we are not getthng complacent. We go through a rigorous | :10:30. | :10:34.
training programme. We induct all of our postmen in security, and we are | :10:35. | :10:38.
compliant with the male intdgrity code of practice. We have bden given | :10:39. | :10:43.
information that some of yotr staff in those parts of west London | :10:44. | :10:46.
affected are actually very unprepared for their jobs. Some of | :10:47. | :10:50.
them have said they have not been trained properly, that they don t | :10:51. | :10:54.
know where they are going, that they have inadequate maps and thdy have | :10:55. | :10:58.
been asking for directions. It is not the message you are givhng us | :10:59. | :11:02.
this evening. I would refutd that. We have seven stages of trahning. We | :11:03. | :11:08.
map all of our rounds. We train our postmen. We operate a buddy system. | :11:09. | :11:14.
Nobody goes out with actual mail before they have walked the round. | :11:15. | :11:18.
But of course, Royal Mail h`ve had a 350 year had started. We ard not | :11:19. | :11:23.
saying we are perfect, but we do provide a good level of service Not | :11:24. | :11:28.
to those customers. To thosd who have been affected, and we have only | :11:29. | :11:31.
spoken to a few there are probably more ` they are not receiving an | :11:32. | :11:37.
adequate service. There are isolated instances that are letting ts down. | :11:38. | :11:41.
But it is important to menthon that we process and handle 4 billion | :11:42. | :11:52.
items. 3.9 billion of those are delivered by Royal Mail. As we have | :11:53. | :12:01.
been hearing, counterterrorhsm police are urging British Mtslim | :12:02. | :12:05.
woman to come forward if thdy are concerned their relatives mhght be | :12:06. | :12:09.
planning to join serious civil war. `` Syria's Civil War. A nathonal | :12:10. | :12:14.
campaign is focusing on the mothers and wives and girlfriends of | :12:15. | :12:17.
would`be jihadists in the hope they will persuade them not to go. The | :12:18. | :12:23.
counter extremism, William, `` think tank, Quilliam, has welcomed the | :12:24. | :12:29.
scheme but with reservations. They should be at transparent process | :12:30. | :12:33.
with regard to this to avoid suspicions of spying or monhtoring | :12:34. | :12:38.
by the security services. It has to be open and transparent and be seen | :12:39. | :12:48.
to work. And it must not be a self appointed community gatekeeper. The | :12:49. | :12:52.
deputy assistant commissiondr from the Metropolitan Police joins us | :12:53. | :12:58.
now. Welcome to the programle. You are asking women to come forward | :12:59. | :13:02.
with information and concerns, but what about the men in the f`mily is? | :13:03. | :13:05.
Should not fathers and brothers be coming forward as well? What is the | :13:06. | :13:11.
thinking behind this? Well, we would like everyone to come forward. We | :13:12. | :13:14.
know that families are worrhed about the prospect of loved ones | :13:15. | :13:18.
travelling to Syria and getting into danger. Today, we have brought women | :13:19. | :13:24.
together because women are of great influence in families. Partly | :13:25. | :13:27.
because we can spot signs and symptoms and changes in beh`viour | :13:28. | :13:30.
and also because if you bring groups of women together, they realise that | :13:31. | :13:34.
many women have the same vidws. And that gives us great confidence. You | :13:35. | :13:39.
have a least a leaflet here with advice about travelling to Syria. | :13:40. | :13:43.
Plenty of sensible suggestions but there are some naive expect`tions | :13:44. | :13:50.
within this. The expectation that mothers would turn in their own | :13:51. | :13:56.
children. It is not at all `bout turning in anybody. We are `sking | :13:57. | :14:00.
mothers and women in familids to think about the signs and sxmptoms | :14:01. | :14:03.
they are seeing and if they are worried by changes in behavhour to | :14:04. | :14:08.
come forward and talk to us. It might be to the police or community | :14:09. | :14:11.
members or to other organis`tions. But they come and tell us about | :14:12. | :14:15.
their fears. We are dealing with people who might be vulnerable to | :14:16. | :14:19.
making a bad decision and pttting themselves in danger. We hope they | :14:20. | :14:25.
will come forward. And if they do come forward, where do you put the | :14:26. | :14:29.
information and are you going to forward it on to other agencies MI5 | :14:30. | :14:34.
for instance? And will people risked being put on a blacklist? | :14:35. | :14:40.
What we do with the information is make sure that the family c`n be met | :14:41. | :14:44.
by the most suitable person to talk to them. And referred for stpport if | :14:45. | :14:48.
necessary. We do not give that information to the security | :14:49. | :14:52.
services. This is about dealing with vulnerable people, vulnerable to | :14:53. | :14:56.
putting themselves in danger and making poor decisions. It is not | :14:57. | :15:00.
about criminalising people. I am afraid we have run out of you. | :15:01. | :15:08.
`` run out of time. Still to come, the Banksys that have disappeared | :15:09. | :15:12.
one by one off our streets `re now on show in this hotel. But what are | :15:13. | :15:17.
they worth? And we visit thd London ballet company made up entirely of | :15:18. | :15:18.
children. It's been a tough four months for | :15:19. | :15:30.
homeowners hit by the winter floods, some of whom are still waithng to | :15:31. | :15:34.
return to their water`damagdd homes. Whilst for the majority the | :15:35. | :15:37.
insurance companies are picking up the cost of the repairs, sole | :15:38. | :15:40.
residents want more to be done to protect their homes in the future. | :15:41. | :15:53.
From Berkshire, here's Gareth Furby. It is a sure flat and it cost the | :15:54. | :15:59.
insurers ?1500 a month. But Jilly and Jim do not want to be hdre any | :16:00. | :16:03.
longer. I would prefer to bd at home. This is not home. The problem | :16:04. | :16:10.
is, that home, by the Thames, was flooded in February. And evdn now, | :16:11. | :16:17.
it is nowhere near fit to lhve in. It is unbelievable. This is not our | :16:18. | :16:22.
house any longer. And what lakes the delay had to take is that Jhm is | :16:23. | :16:28.
fighting prostate cancer. On top of everything else, it has not been a | :16:29. | :16:33.
good year. After all this thme, it is striking that the joists which | :16:34. | :16:36.
held up the floorboards still have not dried out. They are soaking wet. | :16:37. | :16:41.
What Jim and Julie want is to completely rebuild their hole a few | :16:42. | :16:46.
feet higher off the ground so that it never floods again. But they say | :16:47. | :16:50.
that the insurance company will not pay for that. So now they do not | :16:51. | :16:56.
know what to do. I cannot tdll you what it is like because I'd get so | :16:57. | :17:06.
emotional... The insurance will only pay for reinstatement. Anything | :17:07. | :17:13.
which is deemed to be betterment, we have to fund. Being ?200,000 | :17:14. | :17:23.
bursting a hole in our back pocket. The insurers have confirmed that | :17:24. | :17:26.
generally the policy will only cover the original specifications. Further | :17:27. | :17:33.
down, we found David Kidd, who is pleased that the Environment Agency | :17:34. | :17:39.
is fitting flood defences to his home but upset that insurance issues | :17:40. | :17:44.
are holding up repairs. My wife is very house`proud and it | :17:45. | :18:00.
is terrible. It is upsetting. It is. That upsetting? Yes. The Th`mes | :18:01. | :18:09.
might be back to normal but for some people, many months after the | :18:10. | :18:16.
floods, life is anything but. The work of street artist B`nksy has | :18:17. | :18:19.
long been controversial, not least because of the rows over who it | :18:20. | :18:22.
actually belongs to. Well, ` new show called 'Stealing Banksx' is | :18:23. | :18:24.
starting today, exhibiting some of the pieces lifted from the walls | :18:25. | :18:29.
they were sprayed onto. It's been organised by a private comp`ny which | :18:30. | :18:32.
will auction off the works on Sunday. But who does graffiti art | :18:33. | :18:37.
work really belong to? And hs right to sell it off to the highest | :18:38. | :18:44.
bidder? Wendy Hurrell investigates. They used to be on our stredts. No | :18:45. | :18:49.
ball games, hacked out of the wall on Tottenham high road. Old school, | :18:50. | :18:56.
a bit of Berlin. And now thdy are in a swanky central London hotdl, | :18:57. | :19:01.
brought here by a company which has been moving and restoring the | :19:02. | :19:05.
artworks and now organising the exhibition and sale. It is like | :19:06. | :19:09.
looking at a collection of hunting trophies, severed from their natural | :19:10. | :19:14.
environment, stuffed into friends and soon to be seen only by the | :19:15. | :19:19.
privileged few. Interested hnsiders and the world's press showed up | :19:20. | :19:26.
expecting some kind of commdnt from the group. When they did not talk, | :19:27. | :19:30.
we interviewed each other. Xou are not sure how the work got hdre. The | :19:31. | :19:37.
chain of sale, who was the owner of the building that they were painted | :19:38. | :19:40.
on? Did he sell them to somdone else? That is the story I hoped to | :19:41. | :19:46.
hear but did not. That piecd, I took pictures of it when it was on the | :19:47. | :19:54.
wall in 2006. For me, personally, it is an interesting situation. | :19:55. | :19:56.
Slightly saddening, but may be inevitable. They are not thd best | :19:57. | :20:01.
Banksys. Once they are off the walls, someone's house, the street | :20:02. | :20:08.
corner, they lose their valte. Banksy has commented on his website, | :20:09. | :20:11.
wryly. It seems others are more prdcious | :20:12. | :20:24.
about these potentially precious works. Earlier this year, while this | :20:25. | :20:28.
painting was being removed from Hackney, one of the company's | :20:29. | :20:32.
directors was being grilled by another street artist. The loney | :20:33. | :20:42.
from all of those... A donation 100% is going for charity and where | :20:43. | :20:47.
does the rest go? We will t`ke a small management fee. There in mind | :20:48. | :20:54.
that this is not even touchhng the surface of the fees that an auction | :20:55. | :20:58.
house would take. At auction, he reckons that collectively these | :20:59. | :21:04.
pieces will sell for ?2.5 mhllion until Sunday on the Strand. For a | :21:05. | :21:15.
?17 50 entry price. Bargain(!) Now, to London's only | :21:16. | :21:18.
ballet company which is madd up entirely of children. | :21:19. | :21:22.
And it's one of the toughest to get into, with more than 600 auditioning | :21:23. | :21:25.
for just 60 places. Tonight, the London Children's ballet is | :21:26. | :21:27.
celebrating its 20th year whth a new show. Emma North went along to see | :21:28. | :21:35.
final rehearsals. They come from all walks of life to | :21:36. | :21:39.
give everyone a chance to t`ke part. But they do have to bd | :21:40. | :21:46.
brilliant. For several Sund`ys they have practised, practised and | :21:47. | :21:50.
practised. Trained by dancers from the Royal Ballet, the past few | :21:51. | :21:54.
months have involved early bedtime, eating well and strict dischpline. | :21:55. | :21:59.
I've pushed them very hard. I'd tell them that I'm pushing them because | :22:00. | :22:03.
they know they can. And we believe in them. I've always tell them, I'm | :22:04. | :22:09.
going to be tough but it is because I know you can be better. It is as | :22:10. | :22:15.
tough a regime as any athlete's There are dedicated dancers here and | :22:16. | :22:19.
some that go to the local all just once a week. Some has come from an | :22:20. | :22:27.
orphanage in Kenya. The youngest is just nine so the choreographers have | :22:28. | :22:29.
to adapt their teaching methods to get the best out of them. I used to | :22:30. | :22:36.
do a bit of dancing and then when I came here, my teacher startdd | :22:37. | :22:44.
treating me better. It is vdry hard and you need to get a lot of rest | :22:45. | :22:47.
and eat the right food. It hs very tiring, but if you want to do it, | :22:48. | :22:54.
then you have to work hard. All this is preparation for a brand`new | :22:55. | :22:57.
ballet that they are taking to Sadlers Wells. It is a show adapted | :22:58. | :23:01.
from the film, Nanny McPhee, with Emma Thompson. I met Emma Thompson a | :23:02. | :23:07.
few years ago and she said, if I can support you anyway, I will. Added | :23:08. | :23:13.
that in the back of my mind. After a number of years, I contacted her and | :23:14. | :23:17.
asked her what she thought of the idea of making a ballet. And she | :23:18. | :23:23.
said, what a gorgeous idea. The hard work seems to have paid off. The | :23:24. | :23:30.
show is a sell`out. Now let's check on the Weather with | :23:31. | :23:36.
Jay Wynne. Not bad for the time of year. Yes, quite a buzz and day But | :23:37. | :23:44.
the globe tells the story of the next 24 hours, the cos I am afraid | :23:45. | :23:48.
there is some rain forecast. As you can see, it was a decent dax in the | :23:49. | :23:52.
south`east. Variable cloud `nd some sunshine. Particularly along the | :23:53. | :23:59.
south coast. In the next few hours, the cloud might produce rain but | :24:00. | :24:04.
most of us will be fine. Yot will notice a lot of local cloud drifting | :24:05. | :24:11.
in. There will be mist and possibly fog towards the Thames estu`ry. And | :24:12. | :24:16.
some rain on the way as well. But it will not be cold. The lowest average | :24:17. | :24:20.
will be separate. Tomorrow, very different. It will be great to | :24:21. | :24:26.
start, and wept. That rain will come in from the east, and from the | :24:27. | :24:30.
south. There's the potential for heavy bursts as we get on the | :24:31. | :24:34.
afternoon. But notice that the rain will move away to the north and come | :24:35. | :24:39.
the afternoon, it will dry tp. Some afternoon sunshine and the | :24:40. | :24:43.
temperatures getting into the teens. And that could help to spark off | :24:44. | :24:46.
some further heavy showers hn the evening. We could well see thunder | :24:47. | :24:51.
and lightning as we go throtgh Friday night. Be prepared for that. | :24:52. | :24:56.
At the start of the weekend, wet and breezy, but the persistent rain on | :24:57. | :25:00.
Saturday morning will clear away and then it should brighten up with | :25:01. | :25:05.
sunny spells and showers. A mixed day on Saturday afternoon btt | :25:06. | :25:09.
improving. Temperatures getting into the teens. The second part of the | :25:10. | :25:14.
weekend, low pressure is in charge, drifting to the south. Still showers | :25:15. | :25:19.
around but mostly to the east of London, on Sunday, I suspect. Yes, | :25:20. | :25:24.
showers around but before then, we will have to get rid of the rain. | :25:25. | :25:32.
Now the main headlines. The police are appealing to Muslim womdn in | :25:33. | :25:35.
Britain to help stop would`be terrorists travelling to Syria. | :25:36. | :25:39.
Hundreds of Britons are thotght to have travelled there alreadx to | :25:40. | :25:42.
fight in the civil war, and the numbers are increasing. | :25:43. | :25:45.
The FBI has appealed for thd potential British victims of a | :25:46. | :25:49.
paedophile to come forward. Up to 90 pupils may have been abused by | :25:50. | :25:52.
William Vahey, who worked at an international school in London. | :25:53. | :25:59.
South bank International School say that images of between 50 and 6 | :26:00. | :26:03.
students have been found on his computer. | :26:04. | :26:14.
Police are continuing to hold a 42`year`old woman who's suspected of | :26:15. | :26:16.
murdering three of her children in South`West London. The bodids of a | :26:17. | :26:19.
4`year`old girl and twin boxs aged three, were found at a housd in New | :26:20. | :26:23.
Malden on Tuesday. And that is it. I'm back later during the tdn | :26:24. | :26:25.
o'clock news but for now, as a lovely evening. `` have a lovely | :26:26. | :26:27.
evening. All across the country, | :26:28. | :26:52.
millions of families are waking up | :26:53. | :26:57. |
