Good evening. A man's been found guilty of murdering his ex`partner | :00:13. | :00:17.
just days after she told police she was petrified of him. Linah Keza was | :00:18. | :00:22.
stabbed to death in front of her three`year`old daughter. The police | :00:23. | :00:27.
watchdog the IPCC is now investigating. Our home affairs | :00:28. | :00:34.
correspondent Guy Smith reports. She wanted to be free from fear, | :00:35. | :00:38.
from the control of her violent former boyfriend. Just days before | :00:39. | :00:44.
she was murdered, Linah Keza had even tried to secure a | :00:45. | :00:47.
non`molestation order at a County Court, claiming this man, David | :00:48. | :00:52.
Gikawa, had threatened to kill her and once even inserted a knife into | :00:53. | :00:59.
her mouth. On July the 31st last year at her home here, he stabbed | :01:00. | :01:05.
her multiple times in front of their three`year`old daughter. A neighbour | :01:06. | :01:08.
heard her screaming and went to help. David Gikawa was seen running | :01:09. | :01:22.
off. That was how he wanted to end the relationship, by butchering her. | :01:23. | :01:26.
Linah Keza worked as a model and was a mother. She was described by her | :01:27. | :01:35.
family is caring and open. She would sacrifice even her own life for | :01:36. | :01:40.
someone. She would put other people's interests before hers. I | :01:41. | :01:45.
can't believe that I will never see her again. Linah Keza came from | :01:46. | :01:53.
Rwanda to seek a better life and study. She called police week before | :01:54. | :01:58.
her death to complain about David Gikawa. The next day she gave a | :01:59. | :02:02.
statement, and on July the 29th, she called police to report that he had | :02:03. | :02:07.
been stalking her and have slashed a friend's car tyres. Two days later, | :02:08. | :02:13.
she was dead. The prosecution said the systems in place failed to | :02:14. | :02:18.
prevent her death. She told the police she was petrified of her ex, | :02:19. | :02:22.
and that he carried a knife that he had sharpened. It is very evident | :02:23. | :02:27.
today that those fears were not taken as seriously as they should | :02:28. | :02:33.
have been. We find that victims of domestic violence often | :02:34. | :02:36.
underestimate the danger they are in, but they never overestimate it. | :02:37. | :02:44.
When Linah Keza told David Gikawa that her relationship with him was | :02:45. | :02:49.
over, the jury heard, he was out for revenge. | :02:50. | :02:52.
Almost half of the paramedics working in the London Ambulance | :02:53. | :02:56.
Service could be investigated after allegations of widespread cheating | :02:57. | :03:01.
in exams. It's emerged that 850 staff who qualified over a four` | :03:02. | :03:04.
year period may have had access to the final exam paper before sitting | :03:05. | :03:06.
the test. The Mayor's being criticised for | :03:07. | :03:15.
giving the go`ahead to a new luxury hotel development in Nine Elms which | :03:16. | :03:18.
will fall well short of its promise of nearly 1,000 new jobs. The | :03:19. | :03:24.
Chinese developers have cut all the office space from their plans, | :03:25. | :03:26.
replacing it with more hotel rooms and private apartments. But City | :03:27. | :03:32.
Hall says it will help regenerate a neglected area. Tim Donovan's report | :03:33. | :03:37.
does contain some flash photography from the start. | :03:38. | :03:47.
In Beijing last autumn, the bosses showed the men their vision for a | :03:48. | :03:53.
Then there was only planning South | :03:54. | :04:02.
Then there was only planning permission a smaller hotel, but six | :04:03. | :04:05.
months on, they have what they wanted. Market Towers in Nine Elms | :04:06. | :04:11.
currently consists of these two office blocks which have seen better | :04:12. | :04:13.
days, but this is what will replace them. Two Towers soaring into the | :04:14. | :04:23.
sky, one 200 metres high. Initially there would be 10,000 square metres | :04:24. | :04:27.
of offices, but first the local council and now the mayor have | :04:28. | :04:34.
allowed a key change. The company is getting rid of all of the office | :04:35. | :04:37.
space and doubling the size of its luxury hotel. Critics point out that | :04:38. | :04:41.
that will actually lead to fewer jobs being created in an area which | :04:42. | :04:49.
badly needs them. The jobs would be luxury. They will be cleaners, | :04:50. | :04:52.
janitors, security staff, which will not provide quality careers for | :04:53. | :04:59.
local people, which we were promised when this development came forward. | :05:00. | :05:06.
It is at the heart of one of the mayor's economic opportunity areas, | :05:07. | :05:09.
and job creation is a priority, but whereas offices would have brought | :05:10. | :05:14.
more than 900 new jobs, with the hotel, it will be 500 jobs, a | :05:15. | :05:25.
reduction of 45%. There has been no reduction in the housing plan, | :05:26. | :05:29.
nearly 500 apart is, only one in ten affordable and none for rent, | :05:30. | :05:32.
although ?7 million is the expense of audible hopes to be built | :05:33. | :05:38.
elsewhere. One critic says it has been aged if from the mayor to the | :05:39. | :05:40.
developers. These overseas development are making `` overseas | :05:41. | :05:46.
developers are making a vast amount of RFID out of this, but local | :05:47. | :05:51.
residents are not. Bid if you don't let them make profits, they will put | :05:52. | :05:56.
their investment elsewhere. I don't believe that. | :05:57. | :06:03.
City Hall so the developers are paying an extra ?300,000 for | :06:04. | :06:05.
employment training, along with ?14 million towards the new Northern | :06:06. | :06:11.
line extension they said there would be no sound legal basis for the | :06:12. | :06:12.
mayor to object to this application. He promised his trip to China would | :06:13. | :06:26.
bring benefits. Some are questioning whether he is getting quite enough. | :06:27. | :06:30.
Well, that's all from me, so I'll wish you a very good night and hand | :06:31. | :06:34.
you over to Louise Lear with the weather. | :06:35. | :06:39.
There is some rain in the forecast. We have been promising unit all day. | :06:40. | :06:47.
You can see it quite clearly here, with some rain a little further | :06:48. | :06:51.
west, but not quite as heavy and widespread. It will clear away | :06:52. | :06:57.
towards dawn, leaving behind quite mild start the day. Mild, dry and | :06:58. | :07:06.
potentially sunny, but as the day develops, there is always the risk | :07:07. | :07:10.
of a few sharp and possibly thundery downpours into the afternoon. If you | :07:11. | :07:16.
escape the showers, temperatures will respond quite nicely, up to 21 | :07:17. | :07:26.
Celsius for. He is Peter Gibbs with the National forecast. | :07:27. | :07:35.
Good evening. Take some warm, humid air, add a generous measure of low | :07:36. | :07:43.
pressure and you have | :07:44. | :07:44. |
