European election results after the news where | :00:00. | :00:12.
Good evening. Welcome to BBC London News. | :00:13. | :00:17.
So, as the parties in London wait to see how they've fared in the | :00:18. | :00:21.
European elections, Labour claim their local election gains in London | :00:22. | :00:25.
show they are on track to win back key Parliamentary seats next year. | :00:26. | :00:29.
The Conservatives say they'll not prove that significant as the agenda | :00:30. | :00:33.
returns to issues like the economy and leadership. | :00:34. | :00:39.
Having lost councils like Croydon and Hammersmith and Fulham, the | :00:40. | :00:42.
Conservatives are stressing that in the one that really counts next | :00:43. | :00:45.
year, voters will have different priorities. | :00:46. | :00:49.
What we have is a position where whereby the Lib Dem vote went away | :00:50. | :00:53.
in large parts of London. Then it was a straight vote? Between us and | :00:54. | :01:00.
the Labour Party. The choice is simple, do you want Ed Miliband or | :01:01. | :01:05.
David Cameron? Number Ten. With five Labour gains, the capital eats Town | :01:06. | :01:08.
Hall map may have changed significantly. Labour was drawing | :01:09. | :01:12.
further encouragement from polling on what this would mean in marginal | :01:13. | :01:16.
seats next year. In the marginal constituencies which are currently | :01:17. | :01:19.
held by the Tories or the Lib Demes that we want to win, our sense is | :01:20. | :01:23.
that we are making progress there, and we are getting more councillors. | :01:24. | :01:27.
Little consolation anywhere for the Lib Dems who lost more than half | :01:28. | :01:30.
their 330 Communications Workers' Union sillors. Could bit a make or | :01:31. | :01:35.
break year ahead? The two big issues people in London feel angry about | :01:36. | :01:38.
are the widening gap between the rich and the rest and the fact that | :01:39. | :01:42.
most people on normal incomes can't afford housing in London. If we | :01:43. | :01:46.
could address those issues better as a Government over the next year, | :01:47. | :01:51.
we'll do much better. UKIP hoped to start following that script for | :01:52. | :01:54.
smaller parties previously written by the Lib Dems, get. A foothold in | :01:55. | :01:58.
Local Government and build from there, that happened just outside | :01:59. | :02:01.
London. But no platform to speak of | :02:02. | :02:05.
materialised inside. In 2010, we put up less than 100 | :02:06. | :02:09.
candidate, more than 450 this time. If you look at the results in the | :02:10. | :02:14.
key areas, we have often come as the runner`up. These elections have made | :02:15. | :02:19.
London once again a predominantly straight two`party fight. But as the | :02:20. | :02:23.
re`election of an independent mayor in Tower Hamlets showed, there's | :02:24. | :02:27.
always scope for more. Tim Donovan is at City Hall tonight | :02:28. | :02:31.
where we are awaiting the European election results. Tim, what is the | :02:32. | :02:35.
late snes Chris, we are close a result, a declaration we think, and | :02:36. | :02:40.
they have started to come in over the rest of the country. It could | :02:41. | :02:43.
have happened already but for the Tower Hamlets effect, if you like. | :02:44. | :02:47.
You saw the evocative passionate scenes, there's been a knock`on | :02:48. | :02:51.
effect from a delay in the count for the mayoral race there, we there are | :02:52. | :02:57.
also recounts in the council elections, and now there are 32 | :02:58. | :03:03.
boroughs, and including the city corporation, who've sent their | :03:04. | :03:06.
results in, who're collating them before declaring them. Tower Hamlets | :03:07. | :03:11.
hasn't sent theirs yet through. When they come through, a for the result, | :03:12. | :03:17.
I can tell you the Greens and the Liberal Democrats are feeling a | :03:18. | :03:20.
little uncertain about what's going to happen tonight. The Conservatives | :03:21. | :03:24.
at the moment have three seats, Labour have two, UKIP, the Greens | :03:25. | :03:28.
and Liberal Democrats have one each. I think the Liberal Democrats are | :03:29. | :03:31.
very negative about the likelihood of keeping hold of that, | :03:32. | :03:35.
particularly after we look at the results they have got in the local | :03:36. | :03:40.
elections. The Greens, the candidate when I saw her earlier was not | :03:41. | :03:44.
confident but they may pull through, the Greenst have traditionally | :03:45. | :03:47.
scored better in a pro`European city. It leaves UKIP, the question | :03:48. | :03:52.
about UKIP, they look as though they'll get an extra seat here, so | :03:53. | :03:57.
while they have not picked up that many council seats in local | :03:58. | :04:00.
elections, it looks as though streeters have made a clear | :04:01. | :04:04.
distinction and will have voted in reasonable numbers on BBC One even | :04:05. | :04:07.
here in London. Thank you. The link to the full | :04:08. | :04:12.
results of the European elections can be found on our website, the | :04:13. | :04:16.

Just time to tell you what the weather has in store for the rest of | :04:31. | :04:35.
the Bank Holiday: Patchy showers will break out | :04:36. | :04:39.

Rain will start to fall on Monday morning. Spreading across the | :04:44. | :04:48.
capital by the afternoon, with highs of around 20 degrees. Not great Bank | :04:49. | :04:54.
Holiday weather. That is it for now. We are back tomorrow during broke | :04:55. | :04:59.
Flatts. A very good night from all of us `` during breakfast. | :05:00. | :05:06.

of chocolate, you don't know what you are going to get until you head | :05:15. | :05:18.
out. The weather was | :05:19. | :05:19. |
