Good evening and welcome to BBC London. | :00:14. | :00:15.
A post mortem examination on a seven`year`old boy who died | :00:16. | :00:20.
during floods in Surrey have revealed he was killed | :00:21. | :00:23.
Zane Gbangbola, from Chertsey, died in hospital in February. | :00:24. | :00:29.
Surrey Police are now conducting tests on a petrol`driven pump that | :00:30. | :00:33.
was seized from inside the home at the time of his death. | :00:34. | :00:36.
It's very calm and Serena here this evening but back in February, it was | :00:37. | :00:54.
a very different story. The river behind me had a fierce current | :00:55. | :00:59.
running through it. Where I'm standing was completely underwater. | :01:00. | :01:02.
These floods caused devastation for thousands across the region. They | :01:03. | :01:07.
also took a life, a seven`year`old boy. Today we came a step closer to | :01:08. | :01:11.
understanding how that tragedy happened. | :01:12. | :01:14.
little Zane Gbangbola's death has remained a mystery. | :01:15. | :01:17.
On Monday, his father spoke about the family's devastating loss. | :01:18. | :01:20.
An initial postmortem examination proved inconclusive. | :01:21. | :01:30.
Now a pathologist says Zane's death was caused | :01:31. | :01:33.
A petrol`driven pump hired by the family was seized by police. | :01:34. | :01:40.
They're now looking at whether the hire company is liable. | :01:41. | :01:44.
All this is contrary to what the family thought was the cause. | :01:45. | :01:47.
A former landfill site backs onto their house. | :01:48. | :01:50.
They believed contaminated water flooded their basement and poisonous | :01:51. | :01:53.
and awoke in intensive care to discover his son had died. | :01:54. | :02:02.
The family didn't want to do an interview today but said they'll | :02:03. | :02:05.
wait for the conclusion of the full investigation. | :02:06. | :02:08.
Until then, they'll explore every avenue and say | :02:09. | :02:10.
The inquest into Zane's death will now be held by the Surrey coroner to | :02:11. | :02:17.
try to establish beyond doubt what happened to him. | :02:18. | :02:26.
That inquest is unlikely to be straightforward. The family still | :02:27. | :02:31.
believe some kind of contamination may have played a part. A few things | :02:32. | :02:37.
are not helping this. Surrey county council originally moral Leicester | :02:38. | :02:40.
night the existence of this former landfill site and then the | :02:41. | :02:44.
postmortem examination originally came back inconclusive. On Monday we | :02:45. | :02:49.
were told these extra tests would take a while and now a few days | :02:50. | :02:53.
later we have them. That adding to the scepticism in the area. | :02:54. | :03:01.
What are the authorities saying? Well, police are busy examining this | :03:02. | :03:05.
petrol driven pump which they believe caused the carbon monoxide | :03:06. | :03:10.
leak. Surrey county council refused to comment today, apart from saying | :03:11. | :03:12.
their thoughts remain with the family. I think we are bit closer to | :03:13. | :03:18.
understanding how Zane died but until we have this inquest and all | :03:19. | :03:22.
the evidence is laid out before it, we're unlikely to find anything | :03:23. | :03:23.
really conclusive. A friend of one of Fusilier Lee | :03:24. | :03:31.
Rigby's murderers, who appeared in an interview with the BBC's | :03:32. | :03:34.
Newsnight shortly after his death, has been sentenced to three years | :03:35. | :03:37.
in prison for terror offences. 28`year`old Ibrahim Hassan | :03:38. | :03:40.
and 31`year`old Shah Hussai, Can you tell the difference | :03:41. | :03:42.
between talking to a human This weekend in London, scores | :03:43. | :03:51.
of scientists are testing a theory devised by the man known as the | :03:52. | :03:55.
father of computing ` Alan Turing. It will show if computers have | :03:56. | :03:59.
finally managed to mimic a conversation ` | :04:00. | :04:01.
and can fool a human. Inside this building | :04:02. | :04:03.
an experiment with computers is under way, which could give us | :04:04. | :04:08.
a real insight into the future. This experiment works by the judges | :04:09. | :04:11.
here having a conversation ` two conversations at a time ` | :04:12. | :04:14.
and they have to decide, are they talking to a computer or are they | :04:15. | :04:18.
talking to the humans down here? It's called the Turing Test, named | :04:19. | :04:21.
after the scientist Alan Turing, who imagined that one day a computer | :04:22. | :04:26.
might be able to imitate humans. They're separate conversations | :04:27. | :04:33.
with two different entities. They want to decide which one | :04:34. | :04:35.
of these people is the computer For each conversation, | :04:36. | :04:39.
there are five judges and watching, developers who hope their programme | :04:40. | :04:44.
will be the first to pass. I'm hoping it will be mine, | :04:45. | :04:50.
Cleverbot. I'm rooting for my chatbot | :04:51. | :04:53.
which is called Ultra Hal. So let's try this with | :04:54. | :05:00.
just one question. Now, | :05:01. | :05:04.
I think this one here is the human. I think they're bluffing because | :05:05. | :05:21.
the answer doesn't make any sense. It can be hard to tell, | :05:22. | :05:24.
as one of the judges, actor Robert Llewellyn, better known as Crichton | :05:25. | :05:30.
in the series red dwarf, confirmed. One of the computers did some smiley | :05:31. | :05:35.
faces and then did some typos and I Well, | :05:36. | :05:39.
I guessed Crichton would love it. All these little human | :05:40. | :05:46.
beings are delightful. But are they really human | :05:47. | :05:48.
or rather a machines? And if the computer does pass this | :05:49. | :05:51.
test, what could that mean The ultimate, really, is the full | :05:52. | :05:54.
Turing test, in terms of a robot. They may be rather different to | :05:55. | :05:59.
those dreamt up in science`fiction but one day | :06:00. | :06:07.
a robot could be your friend. The result of the test at the | :06:08. | :06:12.
Royal Society will be announced That's it from me. I'll leave you | :06:13. | :06:28.
with the weekend weather from Peter Gibbs. | :06:29. | :06:30.
It could be disturbed night for some across the region. We've got rain | :06:31. | :06:37.
across the way. It's coming with big, heavy thunderstorms so it could | :06:38. | :06:41.
be quite a noisy time. The storms aren't quite here but they are | :06:42. | :06:44.
massing on the other side of the channel and through the second half | :06:45. | :06:48.
of the night, we are likely to see them pushing up from the south, some | :06:49. | :06:52.
heavy downpours and places. Later on in the night, we'll see the big | :06:53. | :06:56.
thunderstorms begin to move in. Quite muddy in places with | :06:57. | :07:00.
temperatures not falling below 15 or 16 in many places. Temperatures | :07:01. | :07:04.
could go up as the night wears on in some places. Tomorrow a cloudy | :07:05. | :07:08.
start, our bricks of rain almost anywhere, particularly through the | :07:09. | :07:12.
morning. Some places could see as much as an inch of rain within an | :07:13. | :07:16.
hour but others missing it altogether. One common thing is that | :07:17. | :07:20.
through the afternoon, we should see the rain beginning to move away and | :07:21. | :07:23.
temperatures picking up in the late sunshine to the low 20s. Through to | :07:24. | :07:28.
Sunday, things should begin to improve to some extent. The showers | :07:29. | :07:30.
move away and a fresh appeal to move away and a fresh appeal to | :07:31. | :07:31.
things. Good evening. The good news is, | :07:32. | :07:41.
there will be some decent dry on a sunny moment to come through the | :07:42. | :07:44.
weekend. But over the next 24 hours, the threat of thunderstorms | :07:45. | :07:49.
looms large. The ingredients have been coming together today - warm | :07:50. | :07:53.
air pushing northwards out of Iberia, cooler air from the Atlantic | :07:54. | :07:57.
trying to pushed away. In between the cloud has been building with a | :07:58. | :08:01.
lot of energy in the atmosphere sparking off some nasty | :08:02. | :08:04.
thunderstorms across parts of northern Spain and south-west | :08:05. | :08:07.
France. They will produce most of the rainfall tomorrow. Ahead of it, | :08:08. | :08:12.
the cloud is starting to produce thunderstorms itself. We've seen in | :08:13. | :08:16.
Cornwall. A few sporadic thunderstorms across central and | :08:17. | :08:19.
southern areas and towards Northern Ireland through the night. Foremost, | :08:20. | :08:23. |
