The London School of Business and Finance was one of 57 colleges to

have its right to sponsor overseas students suspended T main concern

further education colleges `re not allowed to work at all.

219 foreign students who worked and paid tax last year.

The college today said immigration officials only raised questhons over

213 of their students. A review of records shows 198 did hold ` valid

visa to work. 13 had left the college before starting paid work.

The college called in a consultant to review their records. He has

advised an external audit, but says the Government appear to have got

this wrong. I have to say that they do appear to be quite wrong in

saying that students at a private college cannot have a right to work.

And in the case of LSBF, those results show, which doesn't surprise

me at all, that they do havd over 200 students who have working

rights. The college is all too aware of the potential damage to hts

reputation. They are calling on the minister to clarify this as soon as

possible and say an apology would be appropriate too.

The main issue with these colleges, uncovered by the BBC, was

wide`spread cheating on English exams to obtain visas. As m`ny as

50,000 tests have been querhed. The Home Office not only refused to back

down, but in a Immigration is always a tricky

subject. As this college has about 38,000 students worldwide, the
