A group of mothers who've marched

300 miles to protest against NHS cuts, have arrived in London.

They've followed in the footsteps of the 1936 Jarrow Crusade

Here in the capital they've been joined by other groups protesting

Hammersmith today and protesters pretend to die because they are

unhappy about changes to accident and emergency departments locally.

But the main memo was not here. They had gathered to move on to meet a

march which has followed in the footsteps of the 1936 Jarrow

Crusade. Back then it was about jobs. Now the issue is the NHS. And

walking the 300 miles from Jarrow were several Londoners. I got the

train one way but could not afford the fare back so I walked with these

guys. Karen Vincent is from east London. The trick of walking along

way is to have decent shoes that are comfortable and put plasters on

before you walk. It prevents the blisters. Probably about 15 miles.

Joanne Sanderson is from Eltham in south-east London. How will you

cope? I do know, I will just put one foot in front of the other. The

Department of Health says use of the private sector in the NHS represents

only 6% of the total budget. An increase of just 1% in four years.

in the grainy footage But officers hope it might jog

somebody's memory and it is vital they get in touch.

Women jailed at Holloway Prison have been given the chance to work

with some of the capital's leading fashion experts to help them

The partnership with London College of Fashion helps the inmates gain

Our Home Affairs correspondent June Kelly went to see how it works.

Holloway prison, 500 women are serving their sentences here. Like

all inmates, the big question is: When they have done their time how

do you stop them reoffending and being sent back here? Inside the

prison walls, the hope is that this project will give one group a better

chance of rehabilitation. They are learning the basics of the fashion

business. In a joint initiative the Ministry of Justice has teamed up

with the London College of fashion. It was very important to me to get

the message across that the London College of fashion isn't just about

making and creating extraordinary designers and photographers and so

on, but actually it's something that anybody can aspire to be a part of.

Janet was convicted of fraud and was due to complete her sentence next

year. We are all here because we have done wrong but this is going to

teach as a completely new trade that we can take on for years and years.

Lois is serving for the half years for drug smuggling. She is also due

out in the next year. I can't wait to get out there because I don't

want to lose all my ideas and stuff I had in my mind to do with this.

While welcoming outside involvement campaigners for better prison

conditions say government cuts have slashed training programmes

generally. So what is the justice minister here on a visit say to

that? Yes, there are cuts and it has been difficult. We don't run away

from that. But we are trying to make a virtue of necessity and spend the

money more wisely, to make the money go further, and the big failure in

richest penal policy, English penal policy, has been we have not stopped

people coming back again and again. By next year the plan is that the

Holloway workshop will be producing items which will be sold on the high
