The former High Court judge appointed to head the Government's

inquiry into child abuse has dismissed calls that she should

stand down for being too close to those she will be investigating.

Baroness Butler-Sloss is the sister of the late Sir Michael

Havers, who was Attorney General in the 1980s, and who faced accusations

of being part of an establishment cover-up over child abuse.

Meanwhile in the House of Commons, David Cameron has suggested the law

might need to change to make failure to report abuse a criminal offence.
