David Cameron tells his party conference

:00:07.:00:08.

a future Conservative government would bring in two major tax cuts.

:00:09.:00:11.

Mr Cameron said 30 million people would be helped -

:00:12.:00:14.

as he pledged to bring fairness back to the tax system.

:00:15.:00:21.

Let the message go out with the Conservatives if you work hard and

:00:22.:00:26.

do the right thing, we say you should keep more of your own money

:00:27.:00:28.

to spend as you choose. Also this lunchtime:

Mr Cameron's speech. Police hunting

:00:34.:00:36.

for teenager Alice Gross launch a murder inquiry after a body

:00:39.:00:49.

And I need the public's help to find out whoever is responsible.

And the end of the tax disc, as the road tax goes online.

:01:00.:01:09.

We'll be live in Hanwell, with more on the discovery of a body

:01:10.:01:13.

And a new report criticises the care received

:01:14.:01:18.

Good afternoon and welcome to the BBC News at One.

:01:19.:01:42.

In his final party conference speech before the next general election

:01:43.:01:45.

David Cameron has been promising tax cuts for millions of people.

:01:46.:01:50.

He said he would raise the threshold at

:01:51.:01:52.

which people pay the higher rate of tax of 40% from just under ?42,000

:01:53.:01:55.

to ?50,000 if the Conservatives win the next general election.

:01:56.:02:01.

The Prime Minister also pledged to increase the amount people can earn

:02:02.:02:04.

before they pay tax by an extra ?2,000 to ?12,500.

:02:05.:02:06.

Mr Cameron said he wanted to bring back fairness back to taxation.

:02:07.:02:09.

From Birmingham here's our Political Correspondent Carole Walker.

:02:10.:02:21.

A big moment for the Prime Minister after more than four years in power.

:02:22.:02:29.

He strode towards the stage with his wife co-ordinated in blue to tell

:02:30.:02:33.

voters why they should put him back in power at the coming election. He

:02:34.:02:39.

knew they would be wanting some positive reasons to do so, after

:02:40.:02:44.

tough messages this week on benefits cuts, economic challenges and the

:02:45.:02:48.

threat from extremists. The Prime Minister said the Islamic State

:02:49.:02:55.

militants are evil and said Britain could not opt out of the campaign

:02:56.:03:00.

against them abroad and at home. As always with this party, we will do

:03:01.:03:06.

whatever it takes to keep our country safe. And to those, to those

:03:07.:03:12.

who have had all the advantages of being brought up in Britain, but who

:03:13.:03:18.

want to go and fight for Isil, let me say this. If you try and travel

:03:19.:03:24.

to Syria or Iraq, we will use everything at our disposal to stop

:03:25.:03:29.

you. Taking away your passport, prosecute bg, imprison you and if

:03:30.:03:33.

you're there already we may prevent you from coming back. You have

:03:34.:03:37.

declared your allegiance. You are an enemy of the UK and you should

:03:38.:03:58.

expect to be treated as such. David Cameron set out his commitment to

:03:59.:04:04.

balance the books by 2018, saving ?25 billion through spending cuts

:04:05.:04:09.

alone. Then a real crowd pleaser. A promise of more tax cuts. I can tell

:04:10.:04:15.

you now... He promised to take more people out of the... We will raise

:04:16.:04:25.

the allowance to ?12,500. That will take a million more of the lowest

:04:26.:04:31.

paid workers out of income tax and give a tax cut to 30 million more.

:04:32.:04:38.

So with us if you work 30 hours a week on minimum wage you will pay no

:04:39.:04:45.

income tax at all. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. He promised to take more

:04:46.:04:49.

people out of the higher 40 pence rate. David Cameron said his

:04:50.:04:54.

personal experience of the NHS had helped shape his commitment to

:04:55.:04:58.

increase its funding in real terms throughout the next Parliament. And

:04:59.:05:04.

he turned on Labour. For me, this is personal. I'm someone who has relied

:05:05.:05:10.

on the NHS and whose family knows how important it is and what it is

:05:11.:05:13.

look to go to hospital night after night with a sick child, knowing

:05:14.:05:16.

when you get there there will be people who will love that child and

:05:17.:05:20.

care for that child just as like it was their own. And how dare they

:05:21.:05:25.

suggest I would ever put that at risk for other people's children.

:05:26.:05:28.

How dare they frighten those who rely opt NHS. The Prime Minister

:05:29.:05:32.

knows many want a tough line on Europe. He promised a win back

:05:33.:05:37.

powers from Brussels. Britain, I know you want this sorted. So I will

:05:38.:05:42.

go to Brussels and I will not take no o' for an answer. When it comes

:05:43.:05:48.

to free movement I will get what Britain needs. Anyone who thinks

:05:49.:05:58.

reports s... Be Prime Minister said there was only one choice. The

:05:59.:06:02.

Conservatives or Labour. Me in Downing Street or Ed Milliband in

:06:03.:06:08.

Downing Street. If you vote UKIP, that is a vote for Labour. And

:06:09.:06:15.

here's a thought. Here is a thought for you. On the 7th May you could go

:06:16.:06:21.

to bed with Nigel Farage and wake up with Ed Milliband! He said he would

:06:22.:06:26.

not claim to be a perfect leader, but a public servant with the right

:06:27.:06:30.

track record and a plan for the future. For you, for your family,

:06:31.:06:39.

for everyone. It was a speech peppered with optimistic messages,

:06:40.:06:43.

telling the voters how they would benefit from a future Conservative

:06:44.:06:45.

Government and staked out the territory for the tough battle

:06:46.:06:56.

ahead. With me now is Simon Jack. On taxation, they sounded like bold

:06:57.:07:00.

promises, but expensive ones. What will they cost? Raising the top rate

:07:01.:07:07.

of tax to ?50,000 will take 800,000 people out of that band and cost

:07:08.:07:12.

?1.6 billion by 2020. The more expensive one is raising the

:07:13.:07:19.

personal allowance, to 12,500. That will take one million people out of

:07:20.:07:26.

income tax and cost ?5.6 million. And together 7.2 billion. These are

:07:27.:07:32.

Treasury numbers and the IFFS, the independent body, is eye balling

:07:33.:07:37.

them and see no reason to disagree. Do we know where the money will come

:07:38.:07:43.

from? They say there is no question there will not be any tax rises

:07:44.:07:50.

elsewhere. That means savage cuts if they're going to come up with the

:07:51.:07:54.

money on a squeezed deficit. Thank you. Our assistant political editor

:07:55.:08:02.

Norman Smith is in Birmingham. This sounded like a preelection speech?

:08:03.:08:08.

I'm tempted to say what we have is almost a tale of two conferences. We

:08:09.:08:15.

started the week with the austere message about cuts and we end with

:08:16.:08:21.

what is a clear tub-thumping conference speech from the Prime

:08:22.:08:26.

Minister to galvanise his party and give them what they want. What they

:08:27.:08:31.

crave - tax cuts. But more than that, giving an iconic message they

:08:32.:08:36.

can go to the electorate with. Tax cuts not just for those on lower

:08:37.:08:40.

incomes, but for middle England. People who David Cameron said were

:08:41.:08:43.

not well off but who had been dragged into the 40 pence rate.

:08:44.:08:48.

Teachers, nurses. Police officers. People many Tories regard as their

:08:49.:08:54.

people. And there were other crowd pleasers. On Europe he said he would

:08:55.:09:00.

overcome the obstruction of judges in Strasbourg by introducing a

:09:01.:09:04.

British bill of rights to give supremacy to British courts and

:09:05.:09:08.

urged the party to trust him on Europe. I won't take no for an

:09:09.:09:14.

answer. And he said a Conservative Government would deliver English

:09:15.:09:18.

votes on English laws. If anyone was in any doubt we are on the cusp of a

:09:19.:09:22.

jebgs they can be -- general election they can be no doubt now.

:09:23.:09:25.

David Cameron has in effect fired the starting gun on the general

:09:26.:09:27.

election campaign. Thank you. Police investigating

:09:28.:09:34.

the disappearance of 14-year-old Alice Gross have launched a murder

:09:35.:09:35.

inquiry after a body was found last night in a river in west London,

:09:36.:09:39.

following an extensive search. Detectives say significant efforts

:09:40.:09:41.

had been made to conceal the body. Our Home Affairs correspondent

:09:42.:09:44.

Tom Symonds is in Hanwell, The official confirmation came at

:09:45.:09:59.

dawn from the police that this body had been found in the muddy canal

:10:00.:10:07.

just through that path. It is 33 days since Alice Gross went missing.

:10:08.:10:10.

There has been no identification of the body, but it is devastating news

:10:11.:10:15.

for her family and for the supporters who mounted a huge

:10:16.:10:21.

campaign to find her. On the toe path as the Tay dawned, two police

:10:22.:10:27.

tents were visible. This has become the scene of a potential murder.

:10:28.:10:31.

Forensics officers have been back and forth and the location has been

:10:32.:10:36.

photographed from all angles. I can confirm that significant efforts

:10:37.:10:42.

were made to conceal the body. For several reasons, including

:10:43.:10:45.

protecting the investigation, I do not wish to comment any further at

:10:46.:10:53.

this point on the circumstances. Alice Gross was finishing a walk on

:10:54.:10:59.

28th August and was heading home. She was last seen passing this point

:11:00.:11:04.

further down the canal. The body has been found on what would have been

:11:05.:11:08.

her lightly route home. Not far away is another path where her bag was

:11:09.:11:13.

found several weeks ago. For that reason this area has been more

:11:14.:11:19.

heavily searched. A stretch of water examined by divers and in some

:11:20.:11:23.

places drained. Yesterday, we watched this team from the London

:11:24.:11:29.

Fire Brigade Guede supported by Welsh officers. The body was found

:11:30.:11:34.

later further up the canal. This man has not been found. Arnis Zalkalns a

:11:35.:11:41.

builder with a former murder conviction has gone missing. Today

:11:42.:11:46.

police moved in on an area where people have told the BBC he has

:11:47.:11:51.

worked in house renovations in recent months. Now, the police have

:11:52.:11:56.

been criticised for the speed at which they have extended their

:11:57.:12:02.

operations to Latvia, where Arnis Zalkalns may be. They have been

:12:03.:12:06.

accused of not issuing a European arrest warrant in case he is spotted

:12:07.:12:10.

there. They have said they can't do that under the law and there is not

:12:11.:12:15.

enough evidence and today the local MP has backed that decision and said

:12:16.:12:19.

he backs the family and the police are doing everything they can. What

:12:20.:12:27.

happens now, well perhaps the focus moves back here. It is not going to

:12:28.:12:30.

be the end of the search and the police will want to search again the

:12:31.:12:34.

cordon they have put in here, the area surrounded by the tapes,

:12:35.:12:37.

because they want to be sure they have done the tightest search they

:12:38.:12:40.

can and it does take a great deal of time and effort to get right down on

:12:41.:12:45.

the ground, finger tip searching. There may be forensic evidence and

:12:46.:12:50.

we wait for the identification of that body. We we expect possibly

:12:51.:12:52.

today. Thank you. The Ministry

:12:53.:12:57.

of Defence has confirmed that the RAF has carried out two more

:12:58.:12:58.

air strikes on so-called Two Tornadoes fired four missiles

:12:59.:13:01.

at an armed pick-up truck, Yesterday RAF Tornados carried out

:13:02.:13:08.

their FIRST strikes since Parliament approved military action in Iraq

:13:09.:13:11.

last Friday. Clive Myrie is in Irbil in

:13:12.:13:13.

Northern Iraq. Yes, those six RAF jits flying two

:13:14.:13:31.

at a time on combat missions -- jets - are part of the military campaign

:13:32.:13:37.

being gauged against Islamic State and their field of operations is

:13:38.:13:41.

across the country. We saw strikes in the north-west and the latest

:13:42.:13:46.

strikes over night took place just 50 miles north of Baghdad. The jets

:13:47.:13:53.

are based in Cyprus and our defence correspondent is there. The Ministry

:13:54.:13:59.

of Defence has released this video showing what it says was a

:14:00.:14:03.

successful attack on Islamic State fighters in Iraq. It was the first

:14:04.:14:07.

time that RAF Tornados have fired their weapons since they have been

:14:08.:14:11.

authorised to engage targets on the ground. They say they hit an IS

:14:12.:14:16.

machine gut post and an armed vehicle. Last night the RAF launched

:14:17.:14:21.

their second set of air strikes. They flew to an area west of the

:14:22.:14:27.

capital, Baghdad. The two Tornados returned here on Cyprus in the early

:14:28.:14:31.

hours. Confirming the strikes, the Ministry of Defence said they had

:14:32.:14:36.

been tasked to carry out surveillance on a Islamic State

:14:37.:14:40.

centre. When they saw two vehicles leaving, one of which was armed,

:14:41.:14:47.

they fired. They were among a number of strikes by coalition forces in

:14:48.:14:53.

support of Kurdish fighters who have been taking ground from the

:14:54.:14:58.

extremists. The fighting has been focussed near the Syrian border. The

:14:59.:15:04.

Kurds say they now control the town. This war cannot just be won from the

:15:05.:15:08.

air. With the promise that there will be no western boots on the

:15:09.:15:12.

ground, the US and its allies have to rely on others to take on Islamic

:15:13.:15:17.

State. This group of moderate rebels fighting in Syria have been supplied

:15:18.:15:21.

with American weapons. But they still want more western help.

:15:22.:15:27.

TRANSLATION: Maybe if they paid more attention to us and gave more

:15:28.:15:31.

support to the moderate groups we could be in a different position.

:15:32.:15:34.

But at least we are on a different track now. There is little pause in

:15:35.:15:42.

the air campaign. In Cyprus Tornados once again took off for another

:15:43.:15:46.

mission over Iraq. But it is still too early to judge how much of a

:15:47.:15:48.

difference they're making. The last few days have seen some of

:15:49.:16:02.

the most intense bombing of the last several weeks of the campaign. The

:16:03.:16:06.

majority of the strikes have been in Syria without the involvement of the

:16:07.:16:13.

RAF. Britain's involvement in this campaign only extends across Iraq.

:16:14.:16:18.

Thank you very much. David Cameron tells

:16:19.:16:22.

his party conference a future Conservative government

:16:23.:16:28.

would bring in two major tax cuts. Pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong

:16:29.:16:30.

spread to new areas with tens of thousands of demonstrators

on the streets. The danger of railway crossings -

police say people are risking lives And from today,

:16:45.:16:50.

you may no longer need a tax disc in your car, but one Surrey schoolboy

:16:51.:16:54.

will be sad to see them go. In Hong Kong, pro-democracy protests

have spread to new Communist Party. parts of the city as its leadership,

China's leaders want to project an image of peace and order --

:18:09.:18:12.

that what they are asking for is very reasonable. We want to have

:18:13.:18:17.

genuine democratic elections and we want the chief executive CY Leung to

:18:18.:18:25.

step down. With thousands of the streets once again, they are showing

:18:26.:18:30.

but the movement has momentum. There is no sign that the protesters are

:18:31.:18:35.

willing to back down. Despite the defiance, there is an air of

:18:36.:18:40.

civility. College student Jason is part of a recycling team. The

protesters want to be good neighbours, clearing up their mess.

:18:46.:18:51.

But Jason is going home at night. Your parents worried? They do not

worry about my decision, they are concerned about my safety. They do

not want me to stay overnight, it is too dangerous. But they support

protests grow, so will be pressure on Beijing to act.

A man in the United States has been diagnosed with Ebola,

:19:16.:19:18.

the first case of a patient developing the virus on US soil.

:19:19.:19:21.

The man is thought to have caught the disease in Liberia

:19:22.:19:26.

before travelling to the US nearly two weeks ago.

:19:27.:19:30.

Health officials in Dallas, Texas, said he was ill for four days

:19:31.:19:33.

before he was admitted to hospital and they want to trace everyone he

This is the hospital where the unidentified man is critically

:19:37.:19:40.

The authorities are trying to establish if anyone else has

:19:41.:19:46.

We identified all people who may have had contact with the patient

:19:47.:19:54.

Remember, Ebola does not spread from someone who is not infectious.

:19:55.:20:02.

It does not spread from someone who does not have fever

:20:03.:20:05.

It is only someone who is sick with Ebola who can spread the disease.

:20:06.:20:12.

The man flew from Liberia to visit family in the US.

:20:13.:20:15.

It is one of the countries worst affected by the Ebola outbreak.

:20:16.:20:18.

More than 6,500 people have been affected in West Africa,

:20:19.:20:23.

A poor health system has been blamed.

:20:24.:20:28.

The virus only spreads by direct contact when

The man was not contagious while on the plane but he was the six

A former Guantanamo Bay detainee, Moazzam Begg, who was accused

:21:19.:21:26.

of providing terrorist training and funding terrorism overseas has

:21:27.:21:30.

had the charges against him dropped after police received new evidence.

:21:31.:21:34.

His trial was due to start on Monday.

:21:35.:21:38.

Our home affairs correspondent June Kelly is at the Old Bailey.

:21:39.:21:45.

How has this come about? This has been a controversial case from the

:21:46.:21:52.

start. Moazzam Begg is the most high-profile of all the arrests that

:21:53.:21:57.

took place in relation to alleged terrorism in Syria. Since his

:21:58.:22:02.

release from Guantanamo Bay, he has been a vocal campaigner and activist

:22:03.:22:06.

and his supporters say he may no secret of the fact he had been to

:22:07.:22:12.

Syria. He was accused of attending a terrorism training camp. Although

:22:13.:22:16.

not quite at the 11th hour, the case was going to open next week and

:22:17.:22:19.

suddenly this morning the prosecution pulled the plug on the

:22:20.:22:23.

whole thing. It was left to the assistant chief constable of the

:22:24.:22:27.

West Midlands force to explain that in the past few months the police

:22:28.:22:31.

and prosecutors have been passed evidence which undermined this

:22:32.:22:36.

prosecution. They would not say where the evidence had come from. It

:22:37.:22:40.

means Moazzam Begg will soon be a free man. Thank you very much.

The mother of a missing schoolgirl from Bristol has made an emotional

Police believe 15-year-old Yusra Hussien may have travelled to

Turkey with a 17-year-old girl from London and that they may be

Yusra's family insist there's no evidence that

Yusra Hussien's family said they decided to go public and release a

:23:09.:23:15.

picture of the 15-year-old today because they wanted to do whatever

:23:16.:23:19.

they can to try to find her wherever she is. They said she is atypical

:23:20.:23:25.

bubbly, bright teenager who is into table tennis and running with her

:23:26.:23:28.

brothers and sisters. They said there was nothing about her

:23:29.:23:31.

behaviour in the days before she disappeared to make them suspicious

:23:32.:23:35.

in any way. They said she went to bed as normal last Tuesday, talking

:23:36.:23:40.

about going to school on Wednesday, but police believe she got on a

:23:41.:23:44.

plane and flew to Turkey and was planning to head to Syria. Her

:23:45.:23:47.

mother made this direct appeal to her daughter.

:23:48.:23:50.

All your brothers and your sisters, we miss you so, so much.

:23:51.:24:04.

She said that the house feel silent without her daughter. As for the

:24:05.:24:20.

possibility that she might have been radicalised, as the police have

:24:21.:24:24.

suggested, the family say there is no concrete evidence and for now

:24:25.:24:27.

they want to focus on finding her rather than on the labels.

:24:28.:24:32.

The Financial Conduct Authority has begun an investigation into Tesco

:24:33.:24:34.

after the retailer overstated its estimated half-year profits

:24:35.:24:36.

It comes as another supermarket, Sainsbury's, has announced that

:24:37.:24:41.

its like-for-like sales have fallen for a third consecutive quarter.

:24:42.:24:46.

They dropped almost 3% in the three months to September.

:24:47.:24:48.

Our business correspondent, Emma Simpson, reports.

:24:49.:25:00.

Growing sales, growing market share... The old boss's message was

:25:01.:25:07.

always upbeat. He has gone and his right-hand man is now in charge and

:25:08.:25:13.

things are getting tougher. Here is one of the reasons. A typical basket

:25:14.:25:20.

of groceries now costs the same as it did a year ago. Sainsbury's

:25:21.:25:27.

reckons food prices are falling, something that has not happened in a

:25:28.:25:30.

generation. That is good news for us, but it is not helping the

:25:31.:25:36.

supermarkets. With less cash coming through the tills, sales are in

:25:37.:25:40.

decline and Sainsbury's says the next quarter is not likely to get

:25:41.:25:44.

any better. Annual sales could fall for the first time in almost a

:25:45.:25:49.

decade. It marks the end of a tremendous track record. Really it

:25:50.:25:56.

is the end of an era, arguably for the entire supermarket industry.

:25:57.:25:58.

Growth is almost impossible these days. Discount shops are taking an

:25:59.:26:04.

increasing share and shoppers are moving to convenience and online.

:26:05.:26:09.

We're changing the way we set our prices. The fightback has begun.

:26:10.:26:15.

Sainsbury's has long campaigned on quality but it is now going on the

:26:16.:26:22.

offensive of prices. Sainsbury's have an issue with price perception

:26:23.:26:26.

so they have to move on price today and reduce prices to ensure they

:26:27.:26:32.

have the universal appeal. But the troubles run far deeper at its

:26:33.:26:38.

bigger rival Tesco with news today that Britain's financial watchdog is

:26:39.:26:42.

launching a full investigation into its accounting scandal. The huge

:26:43.:26:48.

error in its profits forecast has raised a question about whether this

:26:49.:26:52.

could be happening anywhere else. Sainsbury's insisted today it was

:26:53.:26:56.

100% confident in its accounting practices.

:26:57.:26:59.

For the first time in almost 100 years,

:27:00.:27:01.

drivers no longer need to display a paper tax disc in their windscreen.

:27:02.:27:05.

To pay their road tax, motorists now need to register their car

:27:06.:27:09.

at a post office or online, although the DVLA has this morning admitted

:27:10.:27:13.

there's been unprecedented demand on its website, causing difficulty

:27:14.:27:15.

Our transport correspondent, Richard Westcott, reports.

:27:16.:27:25.

A little piece of history disappears from our windscreens today. The

:27:26.:27:32.

Government says there is no point in having a piece of paper on show. The

:27:33.:27:36.

reality is the authorities have not done this for years, check people's

:27:37.:27:41.

tax discs by looking in the windscreen. Instead they use cameras

:27:42.:27:47.

that take a photograph of your number plate and check it against a

:27:48.:27:50.

database and if you have not paid your tax, it turns orange. On patrol

:27:51.:27:58.

with the DVLA on this road in Essex. Around one in every 200 cars they

:27:59.:28:04.

check is not taxed. We have just had a hit and that vehicle was showing

:28:05.:28:09.

up as unlicensed. I would assume you are mainly catching people in older

:28:10.:28:14.

cars are maybe even white vans. That is what a lot of people assume. It

:28:15.:28:19.

could be anything and everything. A pink Rolls-Royce on the way to a

:28:20.:28:25.

wedding, ambulances, three buses from the same company. If there is

:28:26.:28:30.

time left on your disk, it is still valid. But you do not have to

:28:31.:28:36.

display it. Used or renew online or at the Post Office. The website has

:28:37.:28:39.

been swamped today. If you buy a second-hand car, you have to tax it

:28:40.:28:46.

yourself. The seller gets a refund. The Government gets two lots of tax

:28:47.:28:53.

for the monthly car is sold. The RAC has another worry. The absence of a

:28:54.:28:58.

physical tax disc will encourage people to try to evade taxation

:28:59.:29:03.

which will be lost revenue to the Exchequer and that will affect every

:29:04.:29:06.

motorist because there is less money to spend on maintaining and

:29:07.:29:11.

improving the road network. That is not true according to ministers who

:29:12.:29:16.

say the changes will save millions. For drivers, there is one bit of

:29:17.:29:20.

good news. No more trying to tear the tax disc from the perforations

:29:21.:29:23.

without ripping the paper. The weather is about to get in June

:29:24.:29:39.

with the calendar. Good news or bad news, it depends how you feel. After

:29:40.:29:44.

the warmth of recent weeks, the warmth of late summer is about to be

:29:45.:29:49.

squeezed out by autumn. There will be a few hints of automotive the

:29:50.:29:54.

next few days. Generally we stick with largely dry weather. Sunny

:29:55.:29:58.

spells with one or two showers. Temperatures still at or above

:29:59.:30:02.

average. A few showers this afternoon. The old heavy shower. A

:30:03.:30:07.

bit of brightness in between. Showers in the Channel Islands

:30:08.:30:12.

clearing and a brighter and drier evening compared to this morning. We

:30:13.:30:18.

will see a few showers in the Midlands pushing through northern

:30:19.:30:21.

England as well. Followed by a sunny weather. A few showers in Scotland

:30:22.:30:25.

and Northern Ireland. But most of the afternoon will be predominantly

:30:26.:30:30.

sunny. Pleasant enough under the blue skies. But it is the blue skies

:30:31.:30:34.

which translate to clear skies tonight and a distinct chill in the

:30:35.:30:38.

air for the northern half of the UK. In the south, more cloud. Showers

:30:39.:30:42.

possible. The odd patch of mist and fog. Single digits for towns and

:30:43.:30:46.

cities further north. Rural areas could see a few degrees above

:30:47.:30:52.

freezing. Autumn nip in the air for the northern half of the UK.

:30:53.:30:58.

Pleasant start. Lovely and fresh with sunny weather before the breeze

:30:59.:31:02.

picks up with more cloud later. More cloud across parts of England and

:31:03.:31:05.

Wales. Sunny spells expected. Isolated showers. Temperatures at or

:31:06.:31:11.

above where they should be for the time of year. At the end of the

:31:12.:31:16.

week, autumn well and truly arrives. Deep area of low pressure to the

:31:17.:31:20.

south of Iceland shoving this weather our way. That will be the

:31:21.:31:27.

dividing line between late summer and autumn. The breeze picking up.

:31:28.:31:30.

Blustery day on Friday with strong to gale force across parts of

:31:31.:31:37.

Scotland and Northern Ireland. Persistent rain. The ugly side of

:31:38.:31:42.

autumn. The weather front opening the door to autumn will push its way

:31:43.:31:46.

across England and Wales on Friday night into Saturday morning. All

:31:47.:31:51.

should see some rain. Rain lingering to start the weekend in the east. It

:31:52.:31:55.

will eventually clear. The sunshine will be out. But you will all notice

:31:56.:31:59.

the change. It will feel cooler than it has done and more like it should

:32:00.:32:05.

Now a reminder of our top story this lunchtime.

:32:06.:32:11.

David Cameron tells his party conference a future Conservative

:32:12.:32:16.

government would bring in two major tax cuts.
