Six days before the election, the Conservative candidate

:00:00.:00:07.

for South Thanet is charged with overspending in the 2015

:00:08.:00:10.

Craig Mackinlay is standing again for the seat on June 8th -

:00:11.:00:17.

political opponents are questioning why:

:00:18.:00:20.

Once again, it is bad judgment from Theresa May.

:00:21.:00:23.

Why on earth would you allow someone to go ahead as a general election

:00:24.:00:26.

candidate when this cloud was clearly hanging over him?

:00:27.:00:32.

The Conservative Party says the allegations

:00:33.:00:33.

against Mr Mackinlay and two other party workers are unfounded.

:00:34.:00:40.

And Craig Mackinlay is innocent until proven guilty and he remains

:00:41.:00:48.

our candidate. We will bring you the latest on this developing story.

:00:49.:00:49.

International condemnation of President Trump's

:00:50.:00:51.

decision to withdraw the US from the Paris climate agreement.

:00:52.:00:59.

Jeremy Corbyn launches a stinging attack on Theresa May for failing to

:01:00.:01:03.

join European leaders in their condemnation of America's move.

:01:04.:01:06.

Once again, subservience to Donald Trump.

:01:07.:01:07.

It's a dereliction of both her duty to this country

:01:08.:01:10.

Police investigating the Manchester bombing find a car they say may be

:01:11.:01:16.

"significant" to the inquiry into last week's attack.

And Prince William visits Manchester to talk to those who helped

:01:22.:01:25.

the victims on the night of the attack.

will miss the rest of cricket's Champions Trophy after picking up

:01:32.:01:37.

a side strain in yesterday's win over Bangladesh.

:01:38.:01:59.

Good afternoon and welcome to the BBC News at One.

:02:00.:02:04.

The Conservative candidate for South Thanet in Kent, Craig Mackinlay,

:02:05.:02:08.

has been charged with offences relating to his election

:02:09.:02:10.

expenses in the run-up to the last general election.

:02:11.:02:14.

The Crown Prosecution Service said Mr Mackinlay,

:02:15.:02:15.

who's standing again on June 8th, and two other Tory party workers

:02:16.:02:18.

the Representation of the People Act.

:02:19.:02:21.

Here's our Home Affairs correspondent Daniel Sandford.

:02:22.:02:30.

Craig Mackinlay. It was one of the big Conservative wins in the last

:02:31.:02:36.

general election, stopping Nigel Farage in South Thanet. Their

:02:37.:02:42.

candidate, Craig Mackinlay, won by just under 3000 votes after talking

:02:43.:02:48.

during the campaign of all the support he had had from Big Ben

:02:49.:02:52.

politicians. We have brought many powerful members of the government

:02:53.:02:55.

team down here to show that I am part of a strong team. But today,

:02:56.:03:00.

Craig Mackinlay, who is standing for re-election, was charged with making

:03:01.:03:04.

a false declaration of the money he spent on his campaign. Also charged

:03:05.:03:10.

was his agent, Nathan Grey, and Marion Little, a Conservative Party

:03:11.:03:13.

headquarters campaign specialist accused of aiding and abetting the

:03:14.:03:19.

other two. This was the moment Nigel Farage found out about the charges

:03:20.:03:23.

are he was out campaigning this morning. You're joking? Oh, my good

:03:24.:03:28.

lord. Right, that is big news. Craig Mackinlay has just been charged.

:03:29.:03:33.

Once again, it is bad judgment from Theresa May. Why on earth would you

:03:34.:03:36.

allow someone to go ahead as a general election candidate when this

:03:37.:03:44.

cloud was clearly hanging over him? There will be questions. It was not

:03:45.:03:49.

the big name politicians that all passed through South Thanet two

:03:50.:03:51.

years ago that have led to this case. It was the thousands of pounds

:03:52.:03:57.

spent on hotels for party activists, disclosed by Channel 4 News. These

:03:58.:04:01.

were picked up by the national party and put on their expenses return.

:04:02.:04:04.

But police have been investigating whether in fact, they should have

:04:05.:04:08.

been entered on Craig Mackinlay's local campaign expenses. That

:04:09.:04:14.

investigation has now led to him being charged. The Conservative

:04:15.:04:18.

Party continues to believe that these allegations are unfounded.

:04:19.:04:20.

Craig Mackinlay is innocent until proven guilty and he remains our

:04:21.:04:24.

candidate. Craig Mackinlay has said he will continue to fight for

:04:25.:04:28.

re-election. Standing in this general election while accused of

:04:29.:04:32.

declaring false expenses in the last. Daniel Sandford, BBC News.

:04:33.:04:35.

The first court appearance for Craig Mackinlay and his agent and Marion

:04:36.:04:46.

Little, the senior party activist who was given an OBE in the honours

:04:47.:04:50.

after that general election, are all due to appear in court on July the

:04:51.:04:54.

4th. That will be at Westminster Magistrates' Court in central

:04:55.:04:57.

London. At that point, a decision will have to be made over whether

:04:58.:05:01.

this case is tried at the Magistrates' Court, which it can be,

:05:02.:05:04.

or whether it should be sent to Crown Court for trial by jury. That

:05:05.:05:10.

will partly be a decision for the magistrates, but also a partly a

:05:11.:05:15.

decision for the McKinley himself, whether he chooses to be dealt with

:05:16.:05:18.

summarily by magistrates all goes to face trial by jury. The maximum

:05:19.:05:21.

penalty for the charges these people face is up to a year in prison. But

:05:22.:05:27.

it can also be dealt with by fine. Daniel, thanks.

:05:28.:05:29.

The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has launched a strong attack

:05:30.:05:32.

on Theresa May over her decision not to sign a letter from European

:05:33.:05:36.

leaders protesting at President Trump's decision to pull

:05:37.:05:38.

Mr Corbyn said it showed Mrs May's "silence and subservience"

:05:39.:05:42.

But Downing Street said she'd expressed her "disappointment,"

:05:43.:05:46.

and a source said other major countries had refused to sign.

:05:47.:05:49.

Meanwhile, in Brussels, the EU and China have

:05:50.:05:52.

been joining forces to send a message to

:05:53.:05:54.

the world that they stood by the Paris agreement.

:05:55.:05:56.

From Brussels, our correspondent Damian Grammaticas

:05:57.:05:58.

In the fight against global warming, and just hours after Donald Trump

:05:59.:06:14.

retreated, enter new leaders, the EU and China. Apart from the US, these

:06:15.:06:19.

are the world's other two economic heavyweights, prompted by President

:06:20.:06:24.

Trump to act in concert. What we are seeing here, with this joint

:06:25.:06:27.

reaction to Donald Trump's statement, is striking not just for

:06:28.:06:31.

the swiftness, but also for the message it sends at a time when the

:06:32.:06:35.

US under President Trump is withdrawing from global leadership

:06:36.:06:40.

on climate change. Instantly, the EU and China are stepping in to take up

:06:41.:06:44.

that mantle. It's a striking global change that could herald a decline

:06:45.:06:50.

in US influence. So at this special summit in Brussels, the EU and China

:06:51.:06:54.

are making a joint declaration. They will not abandon the Paris agreement

:06:55.:06:59.

- the opposite, they are committed to it. When President Trump

:07:00.:07:03.

announced his decision last night, he said Paris was a bad deal for the

:07:04.:07:08.

US. But this deal-maker won't be able to renegotiate, said EU

:07:09.:07:13.

countries, who have issued their own coordinated condemnation, a single

:07:14.:07:16.

statement signed by Germany, France and Italy. Angela Merkel today

:07:17.:07:24.

called the US decision regrettable, but she was holding back her real

:07:25.:07:28.

feelings. TRANSLATION: The decision can and will not stop all of us are

:07:29.:07:35.

protecting our decision to protect planet Earth. Quite the opposite. We

:07:36.:07:39.

in Germany, Europe and the world are more determined than ever to pull

:07:40.:07:44.

our strength to face one of the challenges for humankind. Theresa

:07:45.:07:47.

May did not sign the joint letter with Europe's other G7 members. That

:07:48.:07:52.

prompted this scathing attack from Jeremy Corbyn today. Given the

:07:53.:07:57.

chance to present a united front with our international partners, she

:07:58.:08:01.

has instead opted for silence and once again subservience to Donald

:08:02.:08:04.

Trump. It's a dereliction of both her duty to this country and our

:08:05.:08:11.

duty to our planet. Downing Street says the Prime Minister did not act

:08:12.:08:15.

together with other European nations because she spoke directly to

:08:16.:08:18.

President Trump last night to tell him she supports the Paris deal. I

:08:19.:08:23.

have made the UK's position on the Paris agreement clear. We remain

:08:24.:08:26.

committed to the Paris agreement. It is an important international

:08:27.:08:29.

agreement on climate change. I made the UK's position clear to President

:08:30.:08:33.

Trump last week at the G7 meeting, as did the other G7 leaders, and I

:08:34.:08:37.

made the UK's position clear to President Trump last night. Canada

:08:38.:08:42.

and Japan have not signed that letter, neither has the UK. But we

:08:43.:08:46.

all have the same view that we remain committed to the Paris

:08:47.:08:50.

agreement. In Brussels, the EU and China have been prompted to take a

:08:51.:08:55.

stand because they share the belief that fighting climate change makes

:08:56.:09:00.

both environmental and economic sense and, the EU says, put it on

:09:01.:09:04.

the right side of history. Damian Grammaticas, BBC News, Brussels.

:09:05.:09:06.

President Trump said the Paris agreement "punished" the US

:09:07.:09:09.

and cost American jobs, and he has the backing

:09:10.:09:12.

of many Republicans and the US coal industry.

:09:13.:09:14.

But some of America's largest corporations have joined EU

:09:15.:09:17.

countries and China in condemning the President's move.

:09:18.:09:19.

Our environment analyst Roger Harrabin looks now

:09:20.:09:20.

at the widespread opposition to President Trump's decision.

:09:21.:09:25.

In the slums of Bangladesh, water levels are rising

:09:26.:09:31.

partly thanks to carbon emissions from America.

:09:32.:09:40.

The reaction of poor nations to President Trump is no surprise.

:09:41.:09:43.

He has effectively made the US a rogue state.

:09:44.:09:45.

The rest of the world has already said that we will carry

:09:46.:09:50.

Condemnation stretches far beyond Bangladesh.

:09:51.:09:55.

There has been a worldwide chorus of anger.

:09:56.:10:01.

Wherever we live, wherever we are, we all share the same

:10:02.:10:04.

responsibility. It is inspiring to see China,

:10:05.:10:06.

India, Brazil taking Donald Trump needs to be condemned

:10:07.:10:14.

in the strongest possible terms for this reckless and frankly

:10:15.:10:20.

economically illiterate decision. Our message to you, Mr President,

:10:21.:10:29.

is that as a public servant, especially as your first and most

:10:30.:10:33.

important responsibility But in America's coal states,

:10:34.:10:35.

there's strong support for the President's championing

:10:36.:10:40.

of fossil fuels. This is a man who gets up every day

:10:41.:10:42.

to keep the promises he made And by withdrawing today

:10:43.:10:46.

from the Paris Climate Accord, the president has demonstrated his

:10:47.:10:52.

commitment not just to keep his word, but to

:10:53.:10:57.

put American workers, American consumers, American energy

:10:58.:10:59.

and the American people first. But renewables like solar and wind

:11:00.:11:02.

are now outcompeting coal on price So the president may have caused

:11:03.:11:04.

an international row And imagine the next

:11:05.:11:12.

gathering of these guys, President Trump shamed

:11:13.:11:19.

them into paying more Now he is saying America won't pay

:11:20.:11:22.

to defend our planet. Our correspondent Jane O'Brien

:11:23.:11:29.

is in Washington for us. He's a president who's controversial

:11:30.:11:40.

in everything he does. It has certainly inflamed passions

:11:41.:11:53.

on both sites. You have the base, who are delighted. They thought it

:11:54.:11:57.

was a lousy deal. They debate the existence of climate change. For

:11:58.:12:00.

them, this was the right move. But it has inflamed anger on the part of

:12:01.:12:06.

the Liberals, on the left-leaning part of the country, who are

:12:07.:12:11.

absolutely furious, so much so that we are now seeing three states,

:12:12.:12:15.

California, Washington and New York, the governors of those three states

:12:16.:12:19.

have formed their own alliance to fight climate change, saying that

:12:20.:12:23.

even as the administration leaves the Paris agreement, they will gang

:12:24.:12:27.

together and uphold its principles. And we are seeing this kind of

:12:28.:12:32.

sentiment across the country. It's important because states and local

:12:33.:12:35.

governments are actually responsible for imposing their own regulations

:12:36.:12:38.

independent of anything the administration does. So they have

:12:39.:12:43.

real power in this. Another interesting division we are also

:12:44.:12:47.

seeing emerge even more strongly is the division within the White House.

:12:48.:12:51.

We know that the Secretary of State Rex Tillerson supported staying in

:12:52.:12:55.

the Paris agreement. Ivanka Trump, the President'sdaughter and her

:12:56.:12:59.

husband, Jared Kushner, also supported it. They were nowhere to

:13:00.:13:02.

be seen in the rose garden when Donald Trump made his announcement

:13:03.:13:04.

yesterday. Jane, many thanks. With me is our Science

:13:05.:13:06.

Editor David Shukman. What will the US decision mean

:13:07.:13:08.

practically for the Paris accord? Under the rules, America has to stay

:13:09.:13:18.

in for the best part of four years. It can't leave for that length of

:13:19.:13:21.

time. In practical terms, President Trump has said he. Immediately any

:13:22.:13:25.

payments that America was due to make under the agreement. So there

:13:26.:13:32.

is probably at least $2 billion promised by President Obama that now

:13:33.:13:34.

will not be paid towards poorer countries try to cope with the

:13:35.:13:38.

effects of climate change. Beyond that, there are some key meetings of

:13:39.:13:42.

the agreement coming up in the autumn. So will America send a

:13:43.:13:46.

delegation to those? Particularly if Donald Trump wants to raise the idea

:13:47.:13:50.

of renegotiation, will he send a team to do that or will there be an

:13:51.:13:54.

empty chair where the Americans used to sit? And beyond the Paris deal,

:13:55.:13:58.

what will it mean for efforts to tackle climate change more

:13:59.:14:02.

generally? It is enormously significant that this morning, we

:14:03.:14:05.

have had the EU and China standing firm about the Paris agreement and

:14:06.:14:09.

declaring their support for it. Other countries have done the same

:14:10.:14:13.

since the news broke. The risk is that one or two, maybe Russia or

:14:14.:14:17.

Saudi Arabia, might look at the American example unsafe they be we

:14:18.:14:21.

will leave or stay in but do nothing about it. Beyond that, Roger

:14:22.:14:28.

mentioned the fall in the price of renewable energy. There is now a

:14:29.:14:30.

logic for many people in moving to wind and solar, with or without the

:14:31.:14:34.

Paris agreement. So that trend will continue. And key to this is the

:14:35.:14:40.

role of big business. A number of business leaders have come out in

:14:41.:14:43.

support of the Paris agreement and have been critical of the move last

:14:44.:14:49.

night. Their involvement will help deliver a low carbon future. David,

:14:50.:14:51.

thank you. And let's speak to our Assistant

:14:52.:14:53.

political editor Norman Smith - Jeremy Corbyn was scathing about

:14:54.:15:04.

Theresa May in her response to President Trump's move. How much

:15:05.:15:08.

pressure is she and the? Mrs May is under pressure perhaps not just

:15:09.:15:11.

because of the environmental arguments, but because this row

:15:12.:15:16.

really cuts to two of the core issues in this election, namely

:15:17.:15:20.

leadership and Brexit. Leadership, because Mrs May's critics say at a

:15:21.:15:23.

time when so many other worldly goods including our closest allies

:15:24.:15:27.

in Europe are prepared to publicly confront Donald Trump over his

:15:28.:15:31.

decision to an effective either rest of the world and go it alone, Mrs

:15:32.:15:36.

May has publicly remained silent. They point to other instances where

:15:37.:15:40.

Mrs May has been reluctant to publicly criticise the President,

:15:41.:15:43.

such as after his introduction of that ban on Muslim refugees into the

:15:44.:15:49.

United States. Downing Street said in private, Mrs May was clear with

:15:50.:15:52.

the president last night when she spoke to him on the phone. She

:15:53.:15:55.

underlined her complete support for the Paris accords and opposition to

:15:56.:16:00.

his decision. They say the only reason she didn't sign this letter

:16:01.:16:04.

was because it was drawn up before she had a chance to talk to the

:16:05.:16:08.

president. This is also about Brexit, because the claim of critics

:16:09.:16:12.

is that Mrs May has deliberately prioritised relations with Donald

:16:13.:16:16.

Trump above those with our closest allies in Europe, preparing for the

:16:17.:16:22.

post-Brexit world. Their fear is that other EU countries, seeing

:16:23.:16:25.

this, will be even less likely to cut us a decent deal. They note Mrs

:16:26.:16:31.

Merkel's remarked at the weekend, saying that Europe could no longer

:16:32.:16:34.

rely on Britain and America. Norman, thanks.

:16:35.:16:37.

Six days before the election the Conservative candidate for South

:16:38.:16:49.

Thanet is charged with overspending in the 2015 general election

:16:50.:16:54.

campaign. Coming up, Cardiff says it will be the real winner this weekend

:16:55.:16:58.

as it hosts the Champions League final.

:16:59.:16:59.

Coming up in sport at 1.30, tomorrow's Champions League final

:17:00.:17:01.

at Cardiff's Principality Stadium will be as safe as possible

:17:02.:17:04.

for fans according to the Uefa president,

:17:05.:17:06.

Leading surgeons say the number of patients waiting more than six

:17:07.:17:23.

months for treatment in England has nearly tripled over four years.

:17:24.:17:26.

The Royal College of Surgeons has analysed data since March 2013 -

:17:27.:17:29.

The target for waiting times for routine surgery and treatment

:17:30.:17:36.

The head of NHS England, Simon Stephens, recently said that

:17:37.:17:45.

performance would be allowed to slip because of other urgent

:17:46.:17:47.

But the Royal College of Surgeons argue this

:17:48.:17:50.

will mean increasing numbers of patients enduring long delays.

:17:51.:17:54.

The college, using NHS England data, says around 126,000 people had

:17:55.:17:56.

waited more than 26 weeks for non-urgent treatment in March,

:17:57.:18:01.

up 180% on March 2013, a time when targets were being hit.

:18:02.:18:08.

The biggest increases were for dermatology,

:18:09.:18:11.

ear, nose and throat and urology patients.

:18:12.:18:15.

They are anxious about when they are going to

:18:16.:18:20.

have operations done and in some cases delaying the surgery may

:18:21.:18:23.

actually interfere with the outcome of their surgical procedure.

:18:24.:18:28.

Hospitals have been running at close to full

:18:29.:18:30.

emergency treatment rising, so that leaves fewer beds for non-urgent

:18:31.:18:37.

procedures and operations and those patients have to wait longer.

:18:38.:18:40.

We are seeing a tremendous pressure on

:18:41.:18:46.

access on those beds because emergency admissions are

:18:47.:18:51.

are rising so

:18:52.:18:52.

sharply and because at the same time you have a finite budget to afford

:18:53.:18:56.

Lynn, from Cornwall, who is 65, had to wait nine months

:18:57.:19:00.

for her first hip replacement and then had another

:19:01.:19:02.

In the end it only happened because I pushed

:19:03.:19:07.

and pushed and rang the secretary and made a fuss.

:19:08.:19:09.

By which time I could hardly walk, really.

:19:10.:19:11.

The second one, it was supposed to be

:19:12.:19:16.

done within three months and it actually took six and a half months.

:19:17.:19:19.

Again, I had to keep ringing the secretary and pushing for it.

:19:20.:19:24.

Labour said it would increase NHS funding and restore

:19:25.:19:27.

The Conservatives said there had been a sharp drop in the numbers

:19:28.:19:34.

waiting more than a year for treatment, and only their plans

:19:35.:19:37.

to grow the economy would support the NHS.

:19:38.:19:39.

Police investigating the attack at the Manchester Arena

:19:40.:19:47.

are continuing to track the movements of Salman Abedi

:19:48.:19:49.

In the last few hours they've located a car in South Manchester

:19:50.:19:54.

they believe may be significant to the investigation.

:19:55.:19:57.

Meanwhile two of the bomber's cousins have told the BBC

:19:58.:20:01.

they had no idea Abedi was planning his murderous attack.

:20:02.:20:04.

The two cousins were arrested and questioned for a week, but have

:20:05.:20:07.

Finally, police have released new CCTV images,

:20:08.:20:12.

showing the killer shortly before he launched his bomb attack.

:20:13.:20:15.

This report from Manchester, and our home affairs

:20:16.:20:17.

A potentially significant development in this investigation

:20:18.:20:29.

say the police. They focus on a Nissan Micra found in Rusholme.

:20:30.:20:34.

People have been moved out of the area including an accommodation

:20:35.:20:38.

block part of Manchester Royal Infirmary. A visit to the hospital

:20:39.:20:42.

by Prince William has gone ahead. New images have been released as

:20:43.:20:49.

Salman Abedi moved around the city he was preparing to attack. He was

:20:50.:20:52.

back in Manchester four days before he committed mass murder. He has

:20:53.:20:57.

been captured on CCTV with the blue suitcase police are still searching

:20:58.:21:02.

for. Two cousins have been released after being questioned a week. They

:21:03.:21:06.

younger brother is still being held. It is not easy being connected to 22

:21:07.:21:13.

lost innocent lives. The fact that the person that did it is related to

:21:14.:21:18.

us by blood is something will stay with me the rest of my life will

:21:19.:21:23.

stop looking at the relationship with him, it was a close

:21:24.:21:29.

relationship will stop for him to betray the family. In that way,

:21:30.:21:34.

involving 22 innocent people traumatised by it, to be honest. It

:21:35.:21:40.

is shocking. The barbershop was one of the number of addresses searched.

:21:41.:21:45.

Salman Abedi was here in February for a haircut. The brothers say they

:21:46.:21:50.

had not seen him since that time. Early this week a bomb squad was at

:21:51.:21:57.

a house in the area now owned. They say Salman Abedi came to the house

:21:58.:22:01.

in the days before the attack. A lot of arrests have been made and more

:22:02.:22:05.

are anticipated. There is a long way to go. When it comes to warnings

:22:06.:22:11.

about Abedi, police say they can find no record of calls to the

:22:12.:22:13.

anti-terrorist hotline. Prince William has been

:22:14.:22:16.

meeting officers from Greater Manchester Police

:22:17.:22:17.

who were among the first to respond He spoke to an off-duty constable

:22:18.:22:33.

who was at the arena waiting for his daughter when the bomber struck.

:22:34.:22:40.

Arriving at Greater Manchester Police headquarters. The force at

:22:41.:22:43.

the centre of the investigation into the terror attack. Prince William

:22:44.:22:49.

beating officers who were some of the first on the scene to hear about

:22:50.:22:52.

the incredible work they carried out. In 11 of us got into a carrier

:22:53.:23:06.

that seated nine to get as many officers down there. Even on the way

:23:07.:23:12.

down, driving down Stockport Road, we had a feeling it would be a hoax

:23:13.:23:17.

and we would turn around and go back. As more and more calls came

:23:18.:23:25.

in, you realised it is what it is. Next stop, Manchester Cathedral,

:23:26.:23:28.

talking to people from the community who went above and beyond to help

:23:29.:23:38.

those injured. His Royal Highness attending a service and signing the

:23:39.:23:40.

book of condolence to show his support to those affected. And here,

:23:41.:23:47.

crowds are gathering as his Royal Highness is meeting ten children

:23:48.:23:51.

seriously wounded in the attack and who are still being treated will

:23:52.:23:56.

stop meters away, parts of the hospital have been evacuated as the

:23:57.:24:00.

investigation continues and a police search is going on nearby. It is

:24:01.:24:08.

just one week after the Queen's visit, beating others affected by

:24:09.:24:12.

the attack. Another royal boost to a place dealing with the aftermath of

:24:13.:24:16.

a tragedy that killed dozens and injured many more.

:24:17.:24:25.

Many key policy areas, such as health and education,

:24:26.:24:28.

are devolved in Wales, which means they are dealt

:24:29.:24:32.

So what are the big issues which may affect how people

:24:33.:24:39.

in Wales vote in the general election?

:24:40.:24:41.

On a sunny day, Newport in Pembrokeshire could be described

:24:42.:24:44.

as one of the most picturesque places in the country.

:24:45.:24:47.

It is a rural county where 23% of the population

:24:48.:24:50.

Given that so many key issues, such as health and education,

:24:51.:24:56.

are devolved, which issues are most important to the people

:24:57.:25:03.

in this seaside town in this general election?

:25:04.:25:05.

I think getting a good deal with Brexit definitely.

:25:06.:25:08.

In terms of local issues, I don't think they are really

:25:09.:25:11.

The policies, I think, at the end of the day,

:25:12.:25:16.

I think you've got to think of someone who will be strong enough

:25:17.:25:26.

to get us through different times, but the policies stand strongest

:25:27.:25:28.

Pembrokeshire is an agricultural heartland and a sector,

:25:29.:25:33.

like several others in Wales, that benefits from European funding.

:25:34.:25:35.

Political parties have said they would replace

:25:36.:25:37.

the shortfall when we leave, but there are worries

:25:38.:25:39.

about what could happen if the money is not replaced.

:25:40.:25:41.

It would be very damaging to the red meat sector,

:25:42.:25:44.

The statistics show that without that support payment,

:25:45.:25:54.

they would be losing a lot of money and you would see them disappear.

:25:55.:25:58.

Here at Gwent urban centre, what is most important

:25:59.:26:01.

and what will win the vote come June 8th?

:26:02.:26:05.

It is the leaders that are going to change people's votes, I think.

:26:06.:26:08.

My biggest concern is Wales gets the money that we would have been

:26:09.:26:16.

paying the EU and to help people in Britain because in Newport

:26:17.:26:19.

Business rates are another devolved issue.

:26:20.:26:26.

However decisions on and financing large-scale projects are not.

:26:27.:26:29.

So which infrastructure would benefit the economy in Newport

:26:30.:26:32.

Certainly the electrification, given it would run straight

:26:33.:26:37.

That means that Newport is brought closer to London and markets

:26:38.:26:44.

in the south-east of England, which are crucial and lucrative

:26:45.:26:46.

So will the choice be based on Brexit, the leadership battle,

:26:47.:26:52.

or will something else sway the vote in Newport on polling day?

:26:53.:26:56.

This evening, as part of the election coverage,

:26:57.:27:01.

Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn will both take part in a BBC

:27:02.:27:04.

Here's our Chief Political Correspondent Vicki Young

:27:05.:27:08.

This is where Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn will be standing as they face

:27:09.:27:23.

questions from 150 voters. The last-minute preparations are under

:27:24.:27:25.

way making sure the important microphones work. In the past, this

:27:26.:27:32.

format has proved tricky. Last time, David Cameron face difficult

:27:33.:27:36.

questions on welfare cuts and Ed Miliband struggled to answer whether

:27:37.:27:40.

Labour had spent too much. This format is different to where you

:27:41.:27:45.

have seven party leaders arguing and shouting over each other. Here the

:27:46.:27:49.

politicians have to deal with people'sexperiences and it can be

:27:50.:27:54.

harder to fob them. Sound bites will not do. Many thanks.

:27:55.:27:56.

That Question Time Special is tonight and kicks off at 8.30pm

:27:57.:27:59.

Thousands of football fans will be in Cardiff this weekend

:28:00.:28:09.

for the final of this season's Uefa Champions League .

:28:10.:28:11.

Italian side Juventus will play Real Madrid.

:28:12.:28:13.

Organisers say they expect an audience of 100s of millions

:28:14.:28:16.

Our Correspondent Richard Conway is in Cardiff.

:28:17.:28:23.

Cardiff is the home of champions this week. Last night Leon were

:28:24.:28:32.

crowned winners for the fourth time in the women's showcase final but

:28:33.:28:36.

only after a nervy penalty shoot out. -- Lyon. On Saturday the men's

:28:37.:28:44.

final sea Juventus and Real Madrid going head-to-head to lift the top

:28:45.:28:48.

prize in European football. For Gareth Bale of the Druid a

:28:49.:28:55.

homecoming to savour. -- of Real Madrid. He is facing up to the

:28:56.:28:59.

prospect of not starting this match, given his recent return from injury.

:29:00.:29:03.

I have been working hard on fitness. I am not match fit. Whether the

:29:04.:29:09.

manager thinks that might be a problem, it may be so, and if I have

:29:10.:29:13.

to be on the bench and come off the bench to make an impact that is what

:29:14.:29:19.

I will have to do. The final will be played amidst tight security after

:29:20.:29:23.

the Manchester attack that killed 22 concert goers. The roof will be

:29:24.:29:28.

closed as a precaution and organisers remind fans to arrive

:29:29.:29:33.

early and not to bring bags. The wafer president is confident

:29:34.:29:36.

everything is being done to ensure a safe environment. The problem is

:29:37.:29:43.

that the stadiums are secured and safe. There are many people in the

:29:44.:29:47.

street. We have to be cautious about it. We have to be connected to the

:29:48.:29:55.

police, local police, intelligence agencies, and we are doing that.

:29:56.:30:01.

He's our teams with fan bases that stretch beyond national borders. It

:30:02.:30:04.

seems the world is looking to Wales this weekend. It is going to be hard

:30:05.:30:11.

for Real Madrid but I hope they win and to have a good experience. I

:30:12.:30:16.

think both will score but Juventus will get it in the end.

:30:17.:30:19.

Opportunities to host the Champions League final do not come around

:30:20.:30:24.

often and Cardiff is determined to make every moment count on its own

:30:25.:30:26.

big day. Mostly good news this weekend. A lot

:30:27.:30:36.

of fine weather around if you do not mind a shower or two. This is a

:30:37.:30:46.

useful picture from Scotland. A wetter picture from Manchester.

:30:47.:30:50.

There is rain around today with a weather front crossing the UK. This

:30:51.:30:54.

is the weekend summary. Sunshine and showers. This is the satellite

:30:55.:30:59.

picture. This is low-pressure sending fresh air in our direction.

:31:00.:31:05.

This is the weather front crossing the UK and it has brought fresh

:31:06.:31:10.

whether to many parts of the country with spots of rain. This is where we

:31:11.:31:15.

have the Atlantic air. The south-east and East Anglia holding

:31:16.:31:20.

on to the warmth from yesterday. Today, still humid with temperatures

:31:21.:31:30.

up to 26. They could be thunder and lightning on the way. Further north,

:31:31.:31:35.

the Northwest, Scotland, Northern Ireland, temperatures some 10

:31:36.:31:40.

degrees lower, but overall a fine day with sunshine and scattered

:31:41.:31:45.

showers. This evening a couple of showers. Later tonight they could be

:31:46.:31:50.

rain in East Anglia and maybe East Yorkshire and as far north as

:31:51.:31:54.

eastern Scotland. Western and far north Scotland, pretty cold tonight

:31:55.:32:02.

and in some rural areas as cool is 5 degrees. Tomorrow we have fresh

:32:03.:32:08.

Atlantic air. Almost across all of the UK. The south-east in the

:32:09.:32:13.

morning and afternoon may be warm and humid. For most, high teens.

:32:14.:32:20.

Sunny spells and some showers. Most showers on Saturday and Sunday will

:32:21.:32:27.

be across western areas. Showers getting into Scotland and Northern

:32:28.:32:31.

Ireland. The best weather will be in eastern areas. There will be a

:32:32.:32:35.

breeze during the weekend. We will change gear completely. This does

:32:36.:32:41.

not look pretty, early next week. We are watching potentially a nasty

:32:42.:32:48.

low-pressure reaching the British Isles. Unusual for the time of year.

:32:49.:32:52.

That means heavy rain and very strong winds during Monday. Let's

:32:53.:32:59.

enjoy the weekend of sunshine and showers and bear in mind that early

:33:00.:33:02.

next week there could be rough weather on the way.

:33:03.:33:08.

A reminder of the main story. The Conservative candidate for South

:33:09.:33:18.

Thanet has been charged with overspending in the 2015 general

:33:19.:33:21.

election campaign. Craig Mackinlay has said he has done nothing wrong

:33:22.:33:27.

and is confident of being acquitted.
