A major safety alert. 22 air ambulance and police helicopters

:00:09.:00:13.

grounded after a faulty fuel gauge was discovered. The emergency

:00:14.:00:19.

helicopters are all BEC 135 models from Bond Air Services, providing

:00:20.:00:23.

cover across the UK. The helicopters are the same model that crashed into

:00:24.:00:28.

a pub in Glasgow last month. Some helicopters are now back in the air,

:00:29.:00:32.

after being ruled safe to fly. Checks on the rest are still

:00:33.:00:37.

ongoing. The Prime Minister is rebuked by the judge in the trial of

:00:38.:00:41.

Nigella Lawson's assistance, after saying he is on Team Nigella. An

:00:42.:00:45.

inspection of GPs surgeries under covers dirty rooms which could risk

:00:46.:00:52.

patients lives. Party leaders insist they will reject the 11% pay rise

:00:53.:00:56.

for MPs. Some MPs say they deserve it. The latest from the Europa

:00:57.:01:03.

League, where Swansea and Wigan are in action. Later, Spurs are

:01:04.:01:09.

guaranteed to finish top of the group.

:01:10.:01:29.

Good evening. Emergency air cover across the UK was reduced today

:01:30.:01:35.

after 22 air ambulances and police helicopters were grounded. They were

:01:36.:01:40.

all BEC 135 model from Bond Air Services, the same model that

:01:41.:01:43.

crashed into a pub in Glasgow last month, killing ten people. A faulty

:01:44.:01:47.

fuel gauge had been discovered on one of the helicopters. A number of

:01:48.:01:51.

them have now been checked and declared safe to fly. BALPA have

:01:52.:01:56.

called for a fundamental review of helicopter operations. Judith Moritz

:01:57.:02:04.

is at the airport in Manchester. This is the home of the North West

:02:05.:02:07.

air ambulance of this. It was after a fault was discovered on one of the

:02:08.:02:12.

service's three aircraft yesterday that this grounding happened today.

:02:13.:02:18.

The service says it hopes to be back in the air as soon as possible. The

:02:19.:02:24.

Northwest air ambulance is called out on average five times a day in

:02:25.:02:29.

winter. Today, this helicopter went nowhere. The charity runs three of

:02:30.:02:33.

these aircraft, one of them developed a fault when it was on the

:02:34.:02:38.

ground yesterday, so they were all suspended from flying. Is very sad

:02:39.:02:42.

but it is comforting to know that if there is a fault it is being looked

:02:43.:02:49.

at and will be rectified. The helicopters are manufactured by Euro

:02:50.:02:53.

copter and operated by Bond Air Services. This morning, they

:02:54.:02:58.

grounded 22 of the helicopters. It says investigations are expected to

:02:59.:03:01.

be completed by the end of the day. Those aircraft that are confirmed as

:03:02.:03:05.

having no fault will return to service, will continue to work with

:03:06.:03:09.

the manufacturer on any aircraft which are found with this fault,

:03:10.:03:12.

with the aim of resuming normal service as soon as it is safe to do

:03:13.:03:19.

so. The grounded model is the same type of helicopter which crashed

:03:20.:03:23.

into the roof of the Glasgow bar a fortnight ago. Today it was

:03:24.:03:25.

announced that a 10th person has died as a result of the disaster.

:03:26.:03:30.

Bond Air Services said there was no indication of a link between that

:03:31.:03:33.

crashed and the suspension from flying today. The EC-135 was popular

:03:34.:03:47.

because of its handling. Some police helicopters were ordered to fly with

:03:48.:03:51.

increased fuel levels as a precaution, too. I understand there

:03:52.:03:57.

was a discrepancy between a low fuel caption, a warning light came on to

:03:58.:04:01.

say there was low fuel. But the fuel gauge was saying the tank was full.

:04:02.:04:05.

It may have absolutely nothing to do with what happened in Glasgow, but

:04:06.:04:12.

they are being ultra-cautious. EC-135s operated by other companies

:04:13.:04:17.

were flying today. Bond Air Services said it was committed to the highest

:04:18.:04:20.

standards of safety in all its operations. Amid concerns about

:04:21.:04:26.

helicopter safety for the second time this month, two unions, both

:04:27.:04:31.

the RMT and the airline pilots union, BALPA, are calling for full

:04:32.:04:35.

reviews into helicopter saved the operations. A judge has criticised

:04:36.:04:43.

the Prime Minister for commenting about the fraud trial at which

:04:44.:04:46.

Nigella Lawson has denied she is a regular drug user. David Cameron

:04:47.:04:50.

said he was on Team Nigella, prompting the judge to tell jurors

:04:51.:04:53.

it was a matter of regret, and people in public office commenting

:04:54.:05:00.

on the matter they should disregard his remarks. The Prime Minister's

:05:01.:05:03.

office said there was never any intention to have an impact on the

:05:04.:05:09.

court case. Watching Nigella on the telly is something the Prime

:05:10.:05:13.

Minister sometimes likes to do with his daughter, he has admitted.

:05:14.:05:16.

Although he clarified he has not seen her in court, David Cameron was

:05:17.:05:22.

asked in an interview if he was a fan of Team Nigella. He replies, I

:05:23.:05:27.

am, I'm a massive fan. I've had the great pleasure of meeting her a

:05:28.:05:31.

couple of times but I'm also an amateur cook and I like her recipes.

:05:32.:05:37.

Judge Robin Johnson directed the jury here to ignore the articles. He

:05:38.:05:42.

said, it is a matter of regret when people in public office comment on a

:05:43.:05:46.

person involved in a trial which is in progress. He said the defendant

:05:47.:05:53.

's, Elisabetta and Francesco Grillo, seen here with the dark air, felt

:05:54.:05:56.

aggrieved because the comments are favourable to Miss Lawson. Taking to

:05:57.:06:01.

the stand for the first time, Elisabetta Grillo, who is 41, told

:06:02.:06:06.

the court she was allowed by Nigella to put personal expenditure on the

:06:07.:06:10.

credit card she had been provided with. She said although she never

:06:11.:06:15.

saw her former boss taking drugs, she regularly witnessed evidence of

:06:16.:06:20.

cocaine use. She said the celebrity chef did not tell the truth last

:06:21.:06:24.

night when she claimed she had only taken cocaine once after her first

:06:25.:06:28.

husband's death. Elisabetta Grillo also told how there was often

:06:29.:06:33.

shouting and stress in the Lawson Suchy household. She said about Miss

:06:34.:06:37.

Lawson, she felt like she was living in a golden cage. She couldn't go

:06:38.:06:41.

out to a birthday party like normal people because Charles always wanted

:06:42.:06:45.

her there. The sisters deny fraud and the case continues. An

:06:46.:06:55.

inspection of 900 GP surgeries in England has uncovered failings in

:06:56.:06:59.

basic standards in about a third of them. The Care Quality Commission

:07:00.:07:05.

found examples of poor standards of cleanliness and in the handling of

:07:06.:07:09.

medicines. In nine cases it was so serious that it could have

:07:10.:07:12.

potentially endangered lives and affected thousands of people. GP

:07:13.:07:19.

surgeries are where most of us receive the bulk of our treatment on

:07:20.:07:22.

the NHS. Everything from vaccinations to monitoring the

:07:23.:07:26.

health of our hearts, GPs do it all. They are the front door to the

:07:27.:07:30.

health service. Now one GP from Birmingham has been placed in charge

:07:31.:07:34.

of making sure family doctors in England are providing safe care. And

:07:35.:07:38.

the first batch of those inspections have thrown up some worrying

:07:39.:07:42.

results. The vast majority of practices provide really good care,

:07:43.:07:47.

but unfortunately they are let down by a few and patience are let down

:07:48.:07:51.

in large numbers by a few of those practices. This surgery is one of

:07:52.:07:56.

those that failed the CQC inspection. Problems here included

:07:57.:08:01.

poorly trained staff, medical records left unattended and,

:08:02.:08:04.

worryingly, medicines and vaccines that were out of date, meaning it is

:08:05.:08:08.

possible they were no longer effective. The patients here were

:08:09.:08:12.

surprised the surgery had come off so badly. I've had no problems. I've

:08:13.:08:17.

found each doctor has been very good. I was ill last year and they

:08:18.:08:21.

were excellent. My son was very ill last year and they were excellent.

:08:22.:08:26.

How surprised you that the surgery has run into problems? Quite

:08:27.:08:30.

surprised. I thought they were really good doctors. They've always

:08:31.:08:34.

been really good with me, always fitted me in. Elsewhere, inspectors

:08:35.:08:40.

found to the consulting rooms, poorly maintained equipment and even

:08:41.:08:45.

in this surgery, in Nottingham, an infestation of markets, which the

:08:46.:08:48.

practice says has been addressed. The patient groups believe these

:08:49.:08:51.

failings are inexcusable. If these were restaurants, they would be

:08:52.:08:57.

seriously fined and if they didn't get their act together they would be

:08:58.:09:01.

closed down. There are 8000 surgeries in England, and these

:09:02.:09:05.

inspections looked at just over 900, 80% of which were targeted because

:09:06.:09:09.

of pre-existing concerns. There were just nine surgeries where there were

:09:10.:09:16.

serious failures. The fridge is organised into different vaccines.

:09:17.:09:21.

At this surgery in Stockport, they make sure they are up to date with

:09:22.:09:25.

procedures. But they worry about how the report will affect the bond of

:09:26.:09:30.

trust between patient and doctor. Without that, there is no

:09:31.:09:34.

doctor-patient relationship. It is absolutely essential that every

:09:35.:09:37.

aspect of patient care is at the highest standard that the patient

:09:38.:09:41.

can expect. A full round-up inspections. Next year, then we will

:09:42.:09:46.

get a better picture of how good a service GP surgeries are providing.

:09:47.:09:50.

The head of the body which sets MPs' pay will -- insisted they will press

:09:51.:09:55.

ahead with the proposed 11% pay rise, despite criticism from party

:09:56.:10:00.

leaders. Sir Ian Kennedy said it would be the first time MPs pay and

:10:01.:10:04.

pensions would be set independently. David Cameron said such a large rise

:10:05.:10:13.

was on. -- was not on. Remember that row about MPs' expenses? They've

:10:14.:10:17.

turned into a new comedy in the West End. But news of a poser for an 11%

:10:18.:10:22.

pay rise might just kill the laughter. After all the fuss about

:10:23.:10:27.

all the receipts for the hanging baskets and the glittery toilet seat

:10:28.:10:31.

and the elephant glands, you might think it's a bit of a bad joke for

:10:32.:10:35.

MPs to be talking about putting up their own pay. The joke, though, is

:10:36.:10:41.

on them. They are not doing it. It's an independent body that says in

:10:42.:10:44.

return for a pay rise they should have a lower pension, lower

:10:45.:10:47.

resettlement payments and, yes, tighter expenses rules. MPs' pay now

:10:48.:10:55.

is a little under ?66,500. After the next election it is proposed it

:10:56.:11:00.

should go up to ?74,000. But the regulator says there will be no

:11:01.:11:04.

extra cost once all the changes are included. If it is seen in the round

:11:05.:11:10.

is an important set of reforms, which is not going to cost the

:11:11.:11:13.

taxpayer any more money and settles once and for all the issue of pay

:11:14.:11:20.

for politicians, I think people will say, guess, now I understand. So

:11:21.:11:25.

what do the public think? Do you think MPs should set their own pay?

:11:26.:11:32.

Nope. Should they get an 11% pay rise? Nope. But the independent body

:11:33.:11:38.

that sets their pay says they should. Should they set their own

:11:39.:11:46.

pay? Definitely not. I wish I could get an 11% pay rise. An independent

:11:47.:11:51.

body says they should get it all stops all you do want them to set

:11:52.:11:57.

their own pay? No, I don't. It would take a change in the law to stop

:11:58.:12:01.

this decision, but party leaders know what the audience wants to

:12:02.:12:05.

hear. We will make sure it doesn't happen if there is a Labour

:12:06.:12:09.

government. I don't think the public will accept it. In a radio

:12:10.:12:14.

interview, the Prime Minister didn't go quite that far. There's time to

:12:15.:12:18.

think again, there's time to get this right. The decision will be

:12:19.:12:22.

made in the second half of 2015. I hope they will think again. The

:12:23.:12:26.

regulator says the whole point of being independent is to be

:12:27.:12:30.

independent. Politicians saying the same to you in private as they are

:12:31.:12:39.

in public? It may be that they want to be seen to be making a big fuss.

:12:40.:12:43.

That's a perceptive judgment by someone who is a perceptive

:12:44.:12:47.

observer. Far be it from me to make any comment. In politics you can't

:12:48.:12:51.

please all of the audience all of the time. So the public sector

:12:52.:12:55.

politicians, stop setting your own pay. And now they say they don't

:12:56.:12:59.

like the independent recommendation. It would be funny if it wasn't real

:13:00.:13:11.

life. The man accused of faking sign language at the memorial service for

:13:12.:13:14.

Nelson Mandela has said he has schizophrenia and that he was

:13:15.:13:18.

hallucinating at the event, seeing angels. Thamsanqa Jantjie, who stood

:13:19.:13:22.

onstage alongside world leaders, said his condition sometimes made

:13:23.:13:30.

him violent. He not only embodied... Sharing the stage with

:13:31.:13:35.

Barack Obama, a man who now says he was in the middle of the

:13:36.:13:39.

schizophrenic episode. He remembers nothing. It was his erratic sign

:13:40.:13:44.

language that first raised concerns. Experts describing it as tuberous.

:13:45.:13:50.

But when the BBC tracked Thamsanqa Jantjie down to his Soweto home

:13:51.:13:54.

today, the 34-year-old said he wasn't a fraud, he was simply ill. I

:13:55.:14:04.

had a breakdown. When I see angels come from the sky. Photos prove he

:14:05.:14:12.

had often worked at prestigious events. There are reports his

:14:13.:14:16.

illness has made him violent in the past. Today a government official

:14:17.:14:20.

insisted world leaders had not been in any danger. Are you embarrassed

:14:21.:14:25.

about what happened at the stadium during the Memorial? I'm not, I have

:14:26.:14:31.

no reason to be. Even if a mistake happened, a mistake happened while

:14:32.:14:36.

we tried. But it is an awkward destruction, as crowds queued for a

:14:37.:14:40.

second date to see Nelson Mandela's body. This may seem like a

:14:41.:14:43.

relatively minor incident during a momentous week. But inevitably,

:14:44.:14:49.

people making comparisons right now between Nelson Mandela and the

:14:50.:14:52.

current leadership. The revelations today feed into a broader sense that

:14:53.:15:06.

South Africa may be losing its way. 22 air ambulance and police

:15:07.:15:09.

helicopters grounded after a faulty fuel gauge is discovered. Some are

:15:10.:15:14.

now back on the air. How the number of people taking part in sport in

:15:15.:15:17.

England has dipped since last year's Olympics. In Sportsday, there

:15:18.:15:23.

are just a few hours to go until the start of the third Ashes test.

:15:24.:15:27.

Alastair Cook will win his 100th cap, as will the Australian

:15:28.:15:30.

skipper. But defeat for England and they will lose the series.

:15:31.:15:41.

There has been a rise in the number of women diagnosed with breast

:15:42.:15:46.

cancer across the world, according to new figures, partly due to a

:15:47.:15:50.

change in lifestyles, such as greater alcohol consumption and

:15:51.:15:55.

increasing obesity. Since 2008, the number of cases has risen by over

:15:56.:16:00.

20%, it represents one in four of all cancers in women globally. In

:16:01.:16:06.

the UK, the five-year survival rate is improving and is now about 85%.

:16:07.:16:10.

There is positive news from a study which suggests a particular drug can

:16:11.:16:16.

half the cases in high risk women with the menopause.

:16:17.:16:24.

The abnormal cells of breast cancer. Some women have a greater

:16:25.:16:28.

lifetime risk. A family history of the disease or some benign change

:16:29.:16:34.

that acts as a warning sign. This form and saw her mother go through

:16:35.:16:40.

cancer treatment. Now, she is delighted there is hope for

:16:41.:16:42.

high-risk women like herself, for five years, she took either a plain

:16:43.:16:50.

tight-lipped or drug being tested. She did not know which. Because my

:16:51.:16:54.

mother had breast cancer, I had in the back of my head that I could get

:16:55.:16:58.

breast cancer, so when I heard about the trial, I wanted to go one it,

:16:59.:17:06.

and when I heard the results, I was amazed, because it is fantastic.

:17:07.:17:12.

Women like her, who had a risk factor and had been through the

:17:13.:17:15.

menopause, were included in this trial. For every 1000 high-risk

:17:16.:17:21.

women, there would usually be 43 cases of breast cancer over five

:17:22.:17:26.

years. But in those women given the drug, that fell the 20, with

:17:27.:17:32.

virtually no side effects. A reduced risk of 53%. While the doctors told

:17:33.:17:39.

me the research came out of seeing how it was already working. We have

:17:40.:17:44.

used this to treat breast cancer, and we have seen in women who have

:17:45.:17:48.

used this that their risk of developing a second breast cancer

:17:49.:17:53.

was significantly love it, but we had to prove it in healthy women. We

:17:54.:17:59.

were pleased to see this was sustained. It is all that it one of

:18:00.:18:03.

the most successfully treated types of cancer, but this research is

:18:04.:18:08.

another step towards preventing it in women whose families have often

:18:09.:18:14.

been devastated by the disease. With the results of the trial revealed,

:18:15.:18:17.

this woman knows she has helped other women. Now, charities want the

:18:18.:18:23.

guidelines for the NHS reviewed. They say this research shows the

:18:24.:18:26.

drug can make a difference to high-risk women. Saving many from

:18:27.:18:31.

the mental and physical ordeal of the fight with breast cancer.

:18:32.:18:38.

The government has been urged to set up a new food crime unit in the

:18:39.:18:41.

light of the horse meat scandal. April in a revision -- a preliminary

:18:42.:18:48.

view highlighted gaps in what the government currently knows about,

:18:49.:18:54.

not activity in the food supply. The food industry, a global business

:18:55.:18:59.

these days. We have some of the safest food in the world, the report

:19:00.:19:04.

says our supply chains are former Baltic criminals looking for huge

:19:05.:19:09.

profits, and the risk is growing -- our supply chains are vulnerable. We

:19:10.:19:15.

need to think about not only knowing the suppliers, but knowing the

:19:16.:19:20.

suppliers' suppliers. We have to have a change in mindset. The horse

:19:21.:19:24.

meat scandal showed how complex the supply chain has become. Especially

:19:25.:19:31.

with processed food. For example, just take this everyday pizza. The

:19:32.:19:36.

dough could have come from America, Poland or France, the chicken from

:19:37.:19:40.

Brazil come up island, the Netherlands or Germany, and the

:19:41.:19:44.

cheese could have come from Switzerland, Italy or Spain. The

:19:45.:19:49.

longer the chain, the more difficult it is to keep tabs on all of the

:19:50.:19:55.

ingredients. How do we keep the criminals out? There are dozens of

:19:56.:19:59.

recommendations in the report, including the creation of a

:20:00.:20:01.

dedicated food crime unit to investigate fraud, industry should

:20:02.:20:08.

have more unannounced inspections, and gathering better intelligence is

:20:09.:20:12.

urgently required. In the run-up to Christmas, we have to -- 200

:20:13.:20:18.

unannounced visit. At Sainsbury's, they have always carried out checks.

:20:19.:20:24.

They believe it was a wake-up call. It is a major issue of trust,

:20:25.:20:28.

anybody who believes otherwise is deluded themselves. It is important

:20:29.:20:32.

that we stand up and work together to deal with the report. The

:20:33.:20:36.

government is considering it, too, it says action has already been

:20:37.:20:41.

taken to keep our food even safer. The final report will not be served

:20:42.:20:47.

up until the spring. Sex offenders who work in the public

:20:48.:20:51.

eye and use their celebrity status to abuse victims' trust will be

:20:52.:20:55.

given tougher prison sentences under new guidelines. More emphasis will

:20:56.:20:58.

be placed on the psychological impact on victims when sentencing.

:20:59.:21:03.

Judges say the Jimmy Savile case had no bearing and that changes were

:21:04.:21:07.

already under way. While crowds in the Tory filed past

:21:08.:21:12.

the coffin of Nelson Mandela, discontent about the current

:21:13.:21:15.

leadership in South Africa appears to be growing, not just with Jacob

:21:16.:21:18.

Zuma, but also with the ruling ANC. This is not what Nelson Mandela

:21:19.:21:33.

wanted for his people. A township in northern Johannesburg. Established

:21:34.:21:40.

in 1995, a year after South Africa's first aquatic elections.

:21:41.:21:49.

People here feel let down. They were promised so much more when Nelson

:21:50.:21:53.

Mandela came to power. Let us build a future together and post a better

:21:54.:22:02.

life for all South Africa. This woman has been living here for 15

:22:03.:22:08.

years. She tells me that she is still waiting for a house provided

:22:09.:22:14.

by government, fresh drinking water and electricity. That is what she

:22:15.:22:19.

voted for. Home video of recent trouble in the township. It had been

:22:20.:22:23.

brewing for months will stop there is a lot of anger here. I am angry

:22:24.:22:29.

with the government, because they are sitting like pigs. The toilet

:22:30.:22:38.

does not have any flushing. Everything is very bad for us. They

:22:39.:22:46.

vote, for what? The ANC can do nothing about it. It is not just the

:22:47.:22:51.

failure of government to deliver basic services that is fuelling

:22:52.:22:58.

discontent. The scandal of Jacob Zuma's spending public money on his

:22:59.:23:04.

private home has angered many. There is a sense of burning rage at the

:23:05.:23:07.

base of society, amongst poor communities, marginalised

:23:08.:23:11.

communities there is true anger. If we do not bring economic inequality

:23:12.:23:20.

levels down, we might imperil the reconciliation that Madiba brought

:23:21.:23:24.

forward. There is little doubt that many ordinary South Africans are

:23:25.:23:29.

angry that their lives are not getting better as promised by Nelson

:23:30.:23:33.

Mandela and the ANC. But the question is, will they show their

:23:34.:23:37.

discontent by turning their backs on the ruling party? Maybe not in next

:23:38.:23:44.

year's election, but there is a growing realisation within the

:23:45.:23:46.

organisation that they must act urgently to ease tensions or risk

:23:47.:23:48.

losing support. Participation in Sport England has

:23:49.:24:01.

fallen slightly since the Olympics. Defying expectations that the games

:24:02.:24:06.

would boost the numbers of those taking part. There has been a drop

:24:07.:24:10.

in 16 to 24-year-olds, and fewer women.

:24:11.:24:17.

Inspire a generation, the ailing expand line you could not escape.

:24:18.:24:22.

But England's number generation did not get the memo. Football has

:24:23.:24:26.

slumped to England's fourth most played sport, and even a British

:24:27.:24:30.

Wimbledon and in could not stop tennis' slide. What the Olympics

:24:31.:24:35.

have done is increased participation overall. No host nation has ever

:24:36.:24:40.

managed to do that before. What we have not managed to do yet is to get

:24:41.:24:45.

real growth in the numbers of young people doing sport across the board.

:24:46.:24:51.

That is a big challenge. Specifically, the 16 to

:24:52.:24:55.

25-year-olds, down by 51,000 since the same time last year. The

:24:56.:25:03.

government has long been told that more house to happen at grassroots

:25:04.:25:08.

level to make a real difference to future generations, but it is clear

:25:09.:25:10.

that girls represent a specific challenge. That is a tough nut to

:25:11.:25:16.

crack. Sports like boxing have seen a rise, E Adams winning Britain's

:25:17.:25:21.

first female gold helped. But the fact remains, young girls drop out

:25:22.:25:27.

of sport faster than boys, 16 to 25-year-old females are half as

:25:28.:25:31.

active as their male equivalents, and worryingly for the government,

:25:32.:25:35.

1.8 million fewer women play regular sport than men. There is a multitude

:25:36.:25:41.

of reasons, self confidence, self-esteem, body image, time and

:25:42.:25:44.

money, and sometimes, we have children to look after. You need to

:25:45.:25:49.

be able to place the children somewhere to play a game of hockey

:25:50.:25:53.

or to go for a run. Some sports are struggling more than others. The

:25:54.:25:58.

last British woman to win Wimbledon says there is a wider issue around

:25:59.:26:01.

why some girls are not picking up tennis racket. Expectations for a

:26:02.:26:07.

female sporting hero are different. A girl is supposed to be beautiful,

:26:08.:26:14.

have long legs and be very athletic looking, and the perfect. Despite

:26:15.:26:22.

role models like Jessica Ennis-Hill, sponsorship of women account for

:26:23.:26:26.

just 4.5% of the sports market in the UK. Experts argue, without a

:26:27.:26:31.

fundamental culture change, a golden opportunity could be lost forever.

:26:32.:26:38.

As winter nights go, it will be positively balmy. Overnight lows are

:26:39.:26:47.

similar to daytime highs at this time of year. To thank for that, a

:26:48.:26:52.

covering of cloud, which will bring rain in most areas by dawn. We could

:26:53.:26:59.

see temperatures dipping away in the south-east of the cloud files in.

:27:00.:27:08.

Elsewhere, these are the overnight low temperatures. Friday gets off to

:27:09.:27:12.

a great start, a lot of cloud around, and outbreaks of rain,

:27:13.:27:17.

especially across western Scotland. Northern Ireland should be

:27:18.:27:22.

brightening up quite nicely, the rain pulling away to the east. A lot

:27:23.:27:27.

of cloud and murky conditions across the hills of northern England,

:27:28.:27:30.

across East Anglia and the south-east, and further west,

:27:31.:27:34.

another band of rain will bring heavier downpours. Everything is

:27:35.:27:40.

moving east through the day, so bright conditions become more

:27:41.:27:42.

widespread, moving to Scotland for the afternoon. Look out for a

:27:43.:27:49.

fuchsia hot showers into Northern Ireland later.

:27:50.:27:56.

Still some rain left over for tomorrow evening for eastern

:27:57.:28:01.

England, but that will clear during the small hours of Saturday. We are

:28:02.:28:05.

up against this weather system, and it means the prospect of heavy rain

:28:06.:28:09.

and strong wind for Scotland and Northern Ireland. As if that was not

:28:10.:28:15.

enough, it moves East, and brings some rain into England and Wales,

:28:16.:28:19.

and another weather front is brewing towards the north-west for Scotland

:28:20.:28:22.

and Northern Ireland, with 80 or 90 mph wind. This weekend, it is a

:28:23.:28:29.

stormy outlook for Scotland and Northern Ireland, but quieter for

:28:30.:28:31.

England and Wales.
