A warning of exceptional weather to come as bad, possibly worse than we | :00:08. | :00:14.
have had already. Tidal surges and high winds threaten many coastal | :00:15. | :00:17.
areas. Severe flood warnings have been issued with a risk of danger to | :00:18. | :00:25.
life. These floods at the coast will be dangerous. If the warnings from | :00:26. | :00:30.
the local authority and emergency services are to take heed and take | :00:31. | :00:36.
action. We will bring you the latest from the BBC weather Centre. Also, | :00:37. | :00:41.
another increasing the cost of rail travel. Campaigners say that prices | :00:42. | :00:46.
are three times faster than wages. Nigella Lawson gives her first | :00:47. | :00:49.
interview since revelations in court about drug-taking. Two have not only | :00:50. | :00:54.
your private life, but distortions of your private life put on display | :00:55. | :00:59.
is mortifying. Energy bills will be simpler from today with clearer | :01:00. | :01:05.
tariffs and discounts. Thanks, everyone! And a dramatic rescue for | :01:06. | :01:12.
passengers on a ship trapped in thick ice on the Antarctic since | :01:13. | :01:18.
Christmas Eve. In sport, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the new manager | :01:19. | :01:21.
of Cardiff city. The former Manchester United striker | :01:22. | :01:23.
has signed a 12 month rolling contract. | :01:24. | :01:43.
Good evening, welcome to the BBC News at Six. If you thought the | :01:44. | :01:48.
weather was bad over the Christmas break, there is more and possibly | :01:49. | :01:52.
worse to come. The government is warning we are in for a period of | :01:53. | :01:55.
exceptional weather over the next few days, with a combination of | :01:56. | :01:58.
rain, wind and high tides. The Environment Agency has issued 13 | :01:59. | :02:03.
severe flood warnings, the highest category indicating a danger to | :02:04. | :02:07.
life, for southwestern and tomorrow morning. There are also warnings of | :02:08. | :02:10.
tidal flooding in numerous locations. Jon Kay is in Newquay in | :02:11. | :02:16.
Cornwall. Standing here this evening, you get | :02:17. | :02:19.
a sense of the storm coming in. The wind is certainly picking up. The | :02:20. | :02:24.
waves are getting higher. This area of North Cornwall is one of those | :02:25. | :02:28.
areas, the severe weather warning areas. But it goes right around the | :02:29. | :02:34.
peninsular of south-west England. They are the most serious warnings | :02:35. | :02:37.
that the Environment Agency can issue. It means there is a potential | :02:38. | :02:42.
risk to life. So, here it comes again. It might be | :02:43. | :02:47.
new year, but it is the same old weather heading our way. In Cornwall | :02:48. | :02:53.
today, a reminder of how treacherous the tide can be. A body was found | :02:54. | :02:58.
after a man was swept into the sea while celebrating the start of 2014. | :02:59. | :03:03.
The group of people that got into trouble yesterday, it was reported | :03:04. | :03:08.
they were only in up to their knees. But there were big waves, a | :03:09. | :03:11.
strong swell, people underestimate the danger. They think they are not | :03:12. | :03:16.
actually swimming and they are all right. But it only takes one wave to | :03:17. | :03:20.
knock you off your feet and you have very little chance of rescuing | :03:21. | :03:23.
yourself. The Christmas storms left tens of thousands of people without | :03:24. | :03:27.
power and led to criticism of the emergency response. Mindful of that, | :03:28. | :03:31.
the Government's emergency committee met in Whitehall today to discuss | :03:32. | :03:35.
more exceptional weather on the way. We will be working very closely | :03:36. | :03:40.
with local councils, power companies, utilities and transport | :03:41. | :03:45.
companies, making sure that all of those organisations are absolutely | :03:46. | :03:48.
prepared for the bad weather that is coming. It has been a relatively dry | :03:49. | :03:54.
day in the south-west of England, but coastal communities are | :03:55. | :03:58.
preparing for the worst. It is unusual to have as many severe | :03:59. | :04:01.
warnings as there are in place tonight. The highest category that | :04:02. | :04:06.
can be issued. The Environment Agency is describing a potentially | :04:07. | :04:10.
deadly, nation of high tides, large waves and strong wind. We have a bit | :04:11. | :04:16.
of a weather window today, but unfortunately tomorrow we are | :04:17. | :04:19.
expecting some horrible conditions. There is a storm moving in off the | :04:20. | :04:23.
Atlantic that will generate some very high wind. Unfortunately, they | :04:24. | :04:26.
are going to combine with high spring tides that are going to | :04:27. | :04:31.
generate unpleasant conditions. The Environment Agency is warning of | :04:32. | :04:34.
more flooding in numerous locations. Not just tonight, but into tomorrow | :04:35. | :04:38.
and the weekend. Here in Carmarthenshire, a taste of what is | :04:39. | :04:42.
expected in South and West Wales and parts of Scotland. And there is a | :04:43. | :04:46.
tidal surge predicted in Northern Ireland on Friday lunchtime. In the | :04:47. | :04:53.
Cornish harbour town of Foy, they are used to high tides and flooding. | :04:54. | :04:57.
While they are taking the forecast is seriously, some wonder if the | :04:58. | :05:01.
authorities might be overreacting. I think there is a danger that the | :05:02. | :05:06.
message is made into... Is overblown, and it becomes | :05:07. | :05:11.
scaremongering. But I guess the government have got to do something | :05:12. | :05:14.
about it. Maybe they need to start looking at the infrastructure more | :05:15. | :05:19.
carefully? This afternoon, there was little sense of the storm to come. | :05:20. | :05:23.
But the government insists that the risks are very real and warns that | :05:24. | :05:31.
Britain must be ready. The government, local councils and | :05:32. | :05:34.
various agencies are all stressing tonight that they are prepared and | :05:35. | :05:38.
everything is in place to deal with this storm. I have just heard from | :05:39. | :05:42.
Cornwall Council. They say they are opening an emergency response unit | :05:43. | :05:44.
at midnight that will work right through. ABC News teams across the | :05:45. | :05:49.
UK will be covering it on regional television, local radio. There is | :05:50. | :05:54.
more information on the BBC News website. | :05:55. | :05:59.
Travelling by train has become more expensive today at annual rail fare | :06:00. | :06:03.
increases come into force across much of Britain. All fares are up by | :06:04. | :06:09.
2.8% on average. Campaigners say that prices are rising three times | :06:10. | :06:14.
faster than wages. Regulated fares, including season tickets, are up | :06:15. | :06:19.
3.1% on average. It means for many commuters that the price of | :06:20. | :06:22.
travelling to work could surpass ?5,000 a year. Many passengers and | :06:23. | :06:26.
consumer groups have criticised the price hikes, in spite of them being | :06:27. | :06:28.
the smallest increase for four years. | :06:29. | :06:33.
It has been as regular as clockwork. For the past decade, it is something | :06:34. | :06:38.
that busy commuters can always rely on as they rush back after | :06:39. | :06:43.
Christmas, the January fare rise. Ticket prices were actually meant to | :06:44. | :06:47.
go up by more until the Government cap the increase last month. I am | :06:48. | :06:52.
sure these passengers would welcome any respite in the price of the | :06:53. | :06:56.
ticket. But this comes after a decade worth of above inflation fare | :06:57. | :07:03.
rises. Will it be enough? It is an improvement on previous years, but I | :07:04. | :07:06.
still think it is a lot. Commuters get hit hard all the time. ?5,800 | :07:07. | :07:12.
now, it is going to be considerably more. It is going to be a struggle. | :07:13. | :07:16.
I travel every day from East Croydon. Conditions are horrendous. | :07:17. | :07:24.
Always delayed. Not happy. It is actually the Government that sets | :07:25. | :07:27.
the increase for around half of the tickets we die. Known as regulated | :07:28. | :07:31.
fares, they include season tickets. This year they will go up in line | :07:32. | :07:36.
with inflation, though companies can add a little more as long as they | :07:37. | :07:39.
match it with a smaller rise elsewhere. They work coming into | :07:40. | :07:44.
London from Canterbury -- a worker coming into London from Canterbury | :07:45. | :07:51.
will only see a rise of ?100 more per year. The Middlesbrough to | :07:52. | :07:54.
Newcastle commute goes up by 5%, ?128 per year. Successive | :07:55. | :08:00.
governments keep hiking fares because they want passengers to pay | :08:01. | :08:02.
a bigger share of the railway running costs. The money also goes | :08:03. | :08:07.
towards building new stations and electrifying lines to make them more | :08:08. | :08:12.
reliable. The Government is investing ?16 billion over the next | :08:13. | :08:15.
five years to upgrade the network in terms of maintenance, new lines and | :08:16. | :08:19.
rolling stock. That is key. There is some movement in the basis of the | :08:20. | :08:24.
balance between the fair pay and the taxpayer. The cost of some season | :08:25. | :08:29.
tickets has almost doubled after ten years of relentless rice rises. | :08:30. | :08:34.
Slough to London has gone from ?1600 to well over ?3000. Canterbury to | :08:35. | :08:40.
London has risen from ?2700 to nearly ?5,000. So, how do train | :08:41. | :08:46.
companies justify the price of a fare? The average season ticket | :08:47. | :08:52.
holder travels 16,000 miles over the course of the year. If you were | :08:53. | :08:55.
attempting to drive 16,000 miles in one year and added up the cost that | :08:56. | :08:59.
you would incur, you would probably spend at least double, probably | :09:00. | :09:04.
ttreble the cost of a season ticket. In Scotland, the commuters will face | :09:05. | :09:08.
the same rise as in England. At season-ticket holders in Wales will | :09:09. | :09:13.
pay a little less than inflation. There was no increase planned in | :09:14. | :09:15.
Northern Ireland. Despite these price rises, record numbers of | :09:16. | :09:22.
people are using the railways. I suspect the question a lot of people | :09:23. | :09:25.
preparing to go home tonight here will be asking, is there any chance | :09:26. | :09:33.
of a price cut any time soon? I can't see that happening for a few | :09:34. | :09:36.
years. The government back row pays for about 30% of the railways at the | :09:37. | :09:41.
moment, and they want to cut that down to 25%. That inevitably means | :09:42. | :09:43.
more money has to come from passengers. | :09:44. | :09:50.
Nigella Lawson has said it was mortifying to have details of her | :09:51. | :09:53.
personal life and drug-taking revealed in court last month. | :09:54. | :09:56.
Speaking in her first television interview since her two former | :09:57. | :09:59.
assistants were cleared of defrauding hair and her ex-husband, | :10:00. | :10:03.
Charles Saatchi, out of hundreds of thousands of pounds, she told a US | :10:04. | :10:06.
TV station that there only desire during the case was to protect her | :10:07. | :10:12.
children. The Taste returns tonight with a | :10:13. | :10:16.
twist... Good Morning America and what would normally have been a | :10:17. | :10:20.
bright and breezy bit of showbiz, a plug for a cookery programme, The | :10:21. | :10:24.
Taste. At one of the stars is Nigella Lawson. This is the first | :10:25. | :10:28.
time she has spoken publicly since the trial of her two assistants. Two | :10:29. | :10:35.
have not only your private life, but distortions of your private life put | :10:36. | :10:39.
on display is mortifying. But there are people going through an awful | :10:40. | :10:44.
lot worse. To dwell on any of it would be self pity. I do that. | :10:45. | :10:51.
Nigella! Nigella! In the court appearance, she had been accused of | :10:52. | :10:56.
being a regular user of cocaine, which she denies. The intense | :10:57. | :10:58.
interest in her life had begun before her trial, -- the trial, when | :10:59. | :11:05.
these photographs of her and her now former husband appeared. Over the | :11:06. | :11:08.
months, her private life has become very public. That appearance in | :11:09. | :11:13.
court was bruising. She said her reputation had been maliciously | :11:14. | :11:16.
vilified. Today, she appeared more reflective than angry. Still, | :11:17. | :11:24.
wounded the experience. My only desire was to protect my children as | :11:25. | :11:28.
much as possible, alas, that was not always possible and I couldn't | :11:29. | :11:31.
always do it, but that is what I wanted to do. Since then, I have | :11:32. | :11:37.
eaten a lot of chocolate, had a very good Christmas and I am into the New | :11:38. | :11:42.
Year. Time to move on and return to talking about food was the message. | :11:43. | :11:45.
But her feelings about the way she has been treated in court were | :11:46. | :11:46.
clear. The health of the former is rarely | :11:47. | :11:55.
prior minister aerial Chevron has worsened significantly. -- aerial | :11:56. | :12:03.
Chevron. He has been in a coma for eight years since suffering a | :12:04. | :12:08.
stroke. Doctors say that there are problems with several vital organs | :12:09. | :12:11.
and his family are at his bedside. The energy bill should be easier to | :12:12. | :12:16.
understand today. Each company can now offer just four tariffs per | :12:17. | :12:19.
customer for both electricity and gas. | :12:20. | :12:28.
If you cannot understand your bill or compare it to what else is on | :12:29. | :12:32.
offer, you could end up on a gas and electricity deal which costs too | :12:33. | :12:36.
much. So, energy suppliers have been told by regulators to cut down on | :12:37. | :12:40.
the Bill will bring variations which end up confusing customers into | :12:41. | :12:46.
overpaying. We have had people saying that they go to switching | :12:47. | :12:50.
sites or phone suppliers and get bamboozled by the complete array of | :12:51. | :12:53.
tariffs that currently exist. These complex, multi-where you pay one | :12:54. | :12:58.
rate until you get to a certain point and then pay a different rate, | :12:59. | :13:03.
all of that is gone. Even though bills are being made simpler, each | :13:04. | :13:07.
company will still be able to offer four different electricity tariffs | :13:08. | :13:11.
and four different gas prices. There will be fixed or variable prices, | :13:12. | :13:16.
green deals, and they will have a standing charge, which can vary, as | :13:17. | :13:20.
well as the unit price, along with possible discounts for dual fuel, | :13:21. | :13:24.
taking both gas and electricity from the same company, and keeping your | :13:25. | :13:29.
account online. It could still get complicated. But anything simpler | :13:30. | :13:32.
might help. I think if there are fewer tariffs, it will be easier to | :13:33. | :13:37.
compare. Before, you have many different tariffs and it was | :13:38. | :13:40.
difficult to work out worked well for your particular property. My | :13:41. | :13:45.
concern is, have they levelled them off at a slightly higher rates | :13:46. | :13:48.
because the Government was saying make it simpler? Bills have doubled | :13:49. | :13:54.
in recent years because the price of gas out of the North Sea, and | :13:55. | :13:58.
imported, has gone up, along with electricity at the power station, a | :13:59. | :14:03.
problem simpler tariffs will not solve. Today, Labour accuse | :14:04. | :14:06.
suppliers of overtired jink households to the June of ?40,000 a | :14:07. | :14:15.
year by inflating wholesale costs. -- overcharging households. | :14:16. | :14:18.
Wholesale prices are linked to what is happening internationally. What | :14:19. | :14:24.
individuals and households want is that they do not want prices to go | :14:25. | :14:27.
up. Of course that is understandable. The regulator says | :14:28. | :14:32.
making it easier to spot a cheaper deal will boost competition and keep | :14:33. | :14:37.
prices as low as possible. Soon, suppliers will be forced to tell | :14:38. | :14:40.
customers if they would do better on a different tariffs. | :14:41. | :14:45.

Just some of the products that have been flying off the shelves. It has | :15:47. | :15:53.
been boosting the fortunes for House of Fraser and John Lewis. The | :15:54. | :16:01.
Christmas story for retailers is starting to be unwrapped. The boss | :16:02. | :16:05.
of House of Fraser has plenty to be pleased about. This tour is | :16:06. | :16:10.
celebrating its best ever Christmas. We had increases in stores but on my | :16:11. | :16:14.
more significant. We saw it come late as the customer was more | :16:15. | :16:18.
confident about using their iPad at home. People were shopping late | :16:19. | :16:25.
buying at home. That has been the change I have seen over the last few | :16:26. | :16:30.
Christmases. Online sales is where the real growth is coming from. At | :16:31. | :16:35.
House of Fraser, they were up 58% in the last three weeks of December | :16:36. | :16:39.
compared to the previous year. At John Lewis, online sales were up by | :16:40. | :16:46.
nearly a quarter. But the numbers for ordering online and picking up | :16:47. | :16:49.
in-store were even bigger, with click and collect up by nearly 62%. | :16:50. | :16:55.
For John Lewis, it doesn't matter these days whether the sales are | :16:56. | :17:00.
online or in store. As long as it can keep up with our shopping | :17:01. | :17:06.
habits, which are changing fast. The combination of a tough economy and | :17:07. | :17:12.

Michael Schumacher remains critical but stable in hospital in France, | :18:04. | :18:07.
where he is being treated for severe brain injuries. The motor racing | :18:08. | :18:11.
champion hit his head during a skiing accident at the weekend. | :18:12. | :18:15.
Let's speak to Richard Conway in Grenoble. Still no sign of | :18:16. | :18:20.
improvement? Michael Schumacher remains in intensive care in | :18:21. | :18:23.
Grenoble this evening. He has been here since Sunday since the accident | :18:24. | :18:29.
on the outs. Yesterday we heard from his manager, who said he was stable | :18:30. | :18:33.
following a second operation on Monday night to relieve pressure on | :18:34. | :18:38.
his brain. Doctors today at the hospital say they would not be | :18:39. | :18:41.
providing any update to that. They would only come before the cameras | :18:42. | :18:45.
when they have something to say. There would be no commentary on his | :18:46. | :18:48.
health. Tomorrow is his 45th birthday. He will be joined by his | :18:49. | :18:54.
family. They have been a constant presence here since the accident. | :18:55. | :18:58.
They will also be joined here by Ferrari fans. Ferrari is his old | :18:59. | :19:05.
team, where he achieved so many successes. They announced today they | :19:06. | :19:10.
want to hold a silent and dignified show of support, in their words, for | :19:11. | :19:14.
Michael Schumacher. They are urging fans to come down just in red to | :19:15. | :19:18.
show their support and appreciation for him. Tonight, here in Grenoble, | :19:19. | :19:22.
he remains in a medically induced coma and he continues, in the words | :19:23. | :19:26.
of his doctors, to fight for his life. The Prime Minister has said | :19:27. | :19:34.
that life should mean life as the government considers US style | :19:35. | :19:38.
hundred-year prison sentences for murderers and serious offenders. | :19:39. | :19:40.
Last year the European Court of Human Rights declared whole life | :19:41. | :19:44.
tariffs in England illegal, although ministers believe they can cite that | :19:45. | :19:48.
the ruling by letting judges impose sentences for hundreds of years. -- | :19:49. | :19:51.
sidestep. Cardiff City have confirmed that Ole | :19:52. | :19:57.
Gunnar Solskjaer is to be their new manager. He replaces the sacked | :19:58. | :20:01.
Malky Mackay and met his new squad at the club's training ground this | :20:02. | :20:04.
morning. He said it was a fantastic challenge and at the club is ready | :20:05. | :20:09.
to take the next step up. I British older who was badly | :20:10. | :20:12.
wounded in Iraq could be chosen for the UK's Winter Olympics team in | :20:13. | :20:18.
Sochi. Mick Brennan lost both his legs nine years ago and started to | :20:19. | :20:23.
ski in 2008. He has become one of Britain's test disabled skiers. | :20:24. | :20:30.
Caroline Wyatt reports. Mick Brennan has been fighting his | :20:31. | :20:34.
way back to health. Not just from the wounds he sustained in Iraq | :20:35. | :20:38.
where he lost both legs, but the skiing injuries of the past year | :20:39. | :20:42.
which culminated in a broken wrist. It is only now healing, just weeks | :20:43. | :20:48.
before the team selection for the Paralympics in Sochi. I have lost a | :20:49. | :20:53.
lot of time on the snow, nine months compared to everybody else in the | :20:54. | :20:56.
world, whether it be on snow or working in the gym. I'm quite a long | :20:57. | :21:01.
way behind that but I have got the determination. That has never been | :21:02. | :21:07.
in short supply for the 34-year-old former sergeant. This was the moment | :21:08. | :21:13.
his comrades in Iraq heard he had just been blown up by a suicide | :21:14. | :21:21.
bomber. That was in 2004. The time until getting injured was the best | :21:22. | :21:24.
time I have had in my life. The Iraq tour that I did with bomb disposal, | :21:25. | :21:31.
it was fantastic. I don't think it is ever going to happen, but I am | :21:32. | :21:36.
lucky, I am still here and I have got my aesthetic legs on. On the | :21:37. | :21:43.
Breda 14th, some people get valentines cards. I got new legs. -- | :21:44. | :21:49.
February 14. He has got new legs built for him using cutting edge | :21:50. | :21:59.
technology. Training as part of the combine | :22:00. | :22:02.
services disabled ski team, he is now determined to get back onto the | :22:03. | :22:09.
slaves to qualify for team GB. -- the slopes. What does he focus on | :22:10. | :22:15.
when he is going down the mountain? Please don't crash! You think about | :22:16. | :22:19.
the things the coaches have told you to work on. You are staying calm, | :22:20. | :22:23.
getting the body positions, and getting down there each time faster | :22:24. | :22:29.
and faster. How likely is he to get into Team GB? He is doing well. His | :22:30. | :22:35.
aim will be to get to the event, to try to get to the event, to put in | :22:36. | :22:39.
his best performance and to see how it is on the day. We haven't got | :22:40. | :22:43.
unrealistic expectations but you have got to go for it. As he heads | :22:44. | :22:48.
to the qualifiers, he will find out in January if he has made it to the | :22:49. | :22:56.
team. Or 52 passengers on board a Russian | :22:57. | :23:00.
ship that has been stuck in the Antarctic have been rescued. The | :23:01. | :23:03.
research vessel became trapped in the eyes of Chris and Steve during a | :23:04. | :23:08.
fierce storm. Icebreakers made sense to reach the ship in eastern | :23:09. | :23:12.
Antarctica but were thwarted by thick sea ice, blinding snow and | :23:13. | :23:16.
fog. Today, helicopters were used to carry passenger to a rescue ship. | :23:17. | :23:21.
The BBC's Andrew Luck-Baker was on board. | :23:22. | :23:30.
It was the site everybody had been waiting for, the first rescue | :23:31. | :23:35.
helicopter descending onto the same ice that has kept me and all on | :23:36. | :23:38.
board the Russian research ship, the Akademik Shokalskiy, stranded for | :23:39. | :23:43.
over a week. Previous attempts to bring about the rescue of the | :23:44. | :23:48.
scientists and tourists on board had been aborted due to poor weather. | :23:49. | :23:54.
Finally, today the skies were clear. The first of the helicopters! | :23:55. | :24:00.
Passengers were ferried in groups of 12 to an icebreaker, the Aurora | :24:01. | :24:07.
australis. The operation lasted several hours. I was one of those | :24:08. | :24:15.
who made the journey. That is the last group of people to | :24:16. | :24:19.
be ferried from the vessel through a 15 minute white knuckle helicopter | :24:20. | :24:27.
ride to just outside the Australian icebreaker. Scientists on board the | :24:28. | :24:30.
Akademik Shokalskiy had been recreating the journey of the | :24:31. | :24:34.
Australian explorer Douglas Mawson and his 19 11th voyage to | :24:35. | :24:38.
Antarctica. On Christmas eve, six flows of ice driven by strong winds | :24:39. | :24:45.
had led the vessel to be unable to move further. | :24:46. | :24:51.
Singing Auld Lang Syne, Oxford -ish and -- expedition members and worked | :24:52. | :24:59.
towards their own rescue. We are pairing for the helipad by stopping | :25:00. | :25:06.
down the snow and ice so the Chinese helicopter from Snow Dragon can | :25:07. | :25:09.
reach us. Finally, with aware of -- whether clear, the rescue could go | :25:10. | :25:14.
ahead. The Aurora australis is now breaking through Diarra. The | :25:15. | :25:20.
eventual destination is Tasmania, 1700 miles away. For the crew of the | :25:21. | :25:26.
Anne, the weight remains. -- of the Akademik Shokalskiy, the weighting | :25:27. | :25:29.
remains. Time for a look at the weather. | :25:30. | :25:40.
Peter gives is here. You can tell us more about the bad weather. -- Peter | :25:41. | :25:44.
Gibbs. We haven't had to worry about ice so | :25:45. | :25:48.
far but a nutty combination tomorrow is going to be the problem. -- a | :25:49. | :25:56.
nasty combination. Let's have a look. We have had a decent day | :25:57. | :26:03.
today. It is a brief window. It is shutting fast. We have got more | :26:04. | :26:07.
gales sweeping in from the Atlantic. Heavy rain to come in the next few | :26:08. | :26:13.
days. We have got the flood threat. We will see some heavy rain tonight. | :26:14. | :26:17.
It does not last long. It produced through quickly. Not a major issue. | :26:18. | :26:24.
It is once we get into tomorrow that we get the deep area of low pressure | :26:25. | :26:28.
pushing to the north-west of the UK that is associated with strong | :26:29. | :26:33.
winds. That is when we start to see some issues in southern and western | :26:34. | :26:36.
coasts, particularly. We have got this combination of onshore winds in | :26:37. | :26:40.
the English Channel and through the Irish Sea. Gusts of up to 60, 70, | :26:41. | :26:46.
possibly 80 mph on the Irish Sea. That is combined with some of the | :26:47. | :26:51.
highest tides of 2014 and lots of water coming down the rivers from | :26:52. | :26:54.
the rain we have had in recent days. That is a bad combination. That is | :26:55. | :27:00.
why we have the weather warnings. Southern Scotland will have some | :27:01. | :27:06.
snow on the Scottish mountains. The cheat day in the North, but will | :27:07. | :27:15.
it -- achieved a in the North, particularly in the wet conditions. | :27:16. | :27:23.
A quieter day generally for Northern areas tomorrow. It doesn't last. If | :27:24. | :27:30.
we take a look at Sunday, another massive area of low pressure. This | :27:31. | :27:34.
one is giving snowstorms on the eastern side of the USA. When it | :27:35. | :27:39.
gets to us, it is going to produce heavy rain and more gale force | :27:40. | :27:42.
winds. Severe flood warnings at the moment. We could see more overnight. | :27:43. | :27:49.
This is the flood line number. At the moment, it is a case of watching | :27:50. | :27:53.
and waiting. As you were hearing, our main story | :27:54. | :27:58.
tonight is the weather. There are 13 severe flood warnings for South West | :27:59. | :28:01.
England as storms and high tides are set to batter the coast. Another | :28:02. | :28:06.
increase in the cost of rail travel. Campaigners say prices are rising | :28:07. | :28:11.
three times faster than wages. That is all from BBC News at Six. It is | :28:12. | :28:14.
goodbye from me and | :28:15. | :28:15. |
