Good evening and welcome to the BBC News at Six. | :01:36. | :01:38.
The former England footballer Adam Johnson | :01:39. | :01:45.
has been found guilty of sexual activity with a child. | :01:46. | :01:47.
The jury at Bradford Crown Court found him not guilty of another | :01:48. | :01:50.
count but the judge said he almost certainly faces a prison sentence. | :01:51. | :01:53.
The case relates to a meeting between 28-year-old Johnson | :01:54. | :01:55.
Our correspondent Ed Thomas has been following the trial for us | :01:56. | :01:59.
George, as that word guilty was read out in court, there was no emotion, | :02:00. | :02:15.
no reaction from Adam Johnson. He stared straight forward. Other, he | :02:16. | :02:23.
told the court that he had -- earlier, he said he had more money | :02:24. | :02:27.
than he knew what to do with. He left the court a child sex attacker. | :02:28. | :02:32.
He was a ?10 million England footballer. And in his own words, | :02:33. | :02:42.
Adam Johnson said he was a rich, arrogant man. Things came easily, he | :02:43. | :02:48.
said. One night, driven by boredom, he was alone with a 15-year-old | :02:49. | :02:52.
girl. He met the girl alone in this car park. A Sunderland fanatic, she | :02:53. | :02:57.
idolised Johnson. To prove that he met her, she recorded their meeting. | :02:58. | :03:07.
Innocent football talk, but what came next was a sexual offence | :03:08. | :03:13.
against a child. What happened in his car has turned my life upside | :03:14. | :03:20.
down. This statement was written by Johnson's 15-year-old victim. I have | :03:21. | :03:25.
lost all my confidence and my schoolwork has suffered. People have | :03:26. | :03:28.
made assumptions about me, and this alone has been hard to deal with. I | :03:29. | :03:34.
have been unable to defend myself publicly. Adam Johnson knew that the | :03:35. | :03:40.
schoolgirl adored him. In one message, he asked, where do you go | :03:41. | :03:44.
out? The child answered, I'm not old enough to go out. Johnson replied, | :03:45. | :03:51.
yeah, but you look old enough. After one meeting, he message, that was | :03:52. | :03:55.
class, just wanted to get your jeans off, love. It was described in court | :03:56. | :04:02.
as classic grooming. When he was arrested, detectives said Johnson | :04:03. | :04:08.
shook with fear. On the 4th of May 2015, Adam Johnson was called in for | :04:09. | :04:11.
a meeting at Sunderland football club. In it, he had omitted kissing | :04:12. | :04:19.
and grooming the child. His suspension was lifted and he was | :04:20. | :04:26.
allowed to play. -- he had admitted. Again and again, the footballer | :04:27. | :04:28.
walked out to represent Sunderland, despite those statements in public. | :04:29. | :04:37.
He denied he had kissed the girl. Every time Adam Johnson went on to | :04:38. | :04:42.
this page, the 15-year-old girl suffered excruciating pain. For a | :04:43. | :04:46.
year, she was called a liar, and that one point she broke down and | :04:47. | :04:53.
told her father she wanted to die. Some supporters feel cheated. At | :04:54. | :04:59.
first, he had done nothing wrong and then lied to the fans. Would you | :05:00. | :05:04.
have supported him if you had known what he did? Know. Would you have | :05:05. | :05:10.
wanted him on your pitch? No. Mr Johnson, you have never apologised | :05:11. | :05:14.
to this 15-year-old girl. Will you do it now? There were no apologies | :05:15. | :05:19.
from Adam Johnson inside court or outside. The millionaire footballer | :05:20. | :05:21.
who thought he could do what he wanted. George, this trial has | :05:22. | :05:30.
exposed a darker side of football. There was an intense focus on what | :05:31. | :05:33.
Sunderland football club knew did not know. We have had a detailed | :05:34. | :05:37.
statement from the club. In that, they revert to that main meeting. A | :05:38. | :05:41.
say that in the meeting Adam Johnson did not indicate he was going to | :05:42. | :05:45.
plead guilty to any charges. The statement goes on to say, if they | :05:46. | :05:49.
had known, they would have sacked Johnson on the spot. As for this | :05:50. | :05:53.
former footballer, he will be back in court to be sentenced. He has | :05:54. | :05:57.
been warned by the judge to expect jail. | :05:58. | :05:59.
Many thanks, Ed. The busiest day in America's | :06:00. | :06:03.
long election trail, has left Donald Trump | :06:04. | :06:04.
for the Republicans and Hilary Clinton for | :06:05. | :06:07.
the Democratic Party to go head to head for | :06:08. | :06:09.
the White House later this year. Our North American Editor Jon Sopel | :06:10. | :06:13.
has been following both candidates The next president | :06:14. | :06:15.

he had the air of a man who whatever the elements might | :06:27. | :06:35.
throw at him, was going to prevail. So at his victory party | :06:36. | :06:38.
last night in Florida, I know people are going to find that | :06:39. | :06:40.
a little bit hard to believe, I think we're going | :06:41. | :06:46.
to be more unified. I think we're going to be | :06:47. | :06:55.
able to unify the party. I hope to be able to get | :06:56. | :06:58.
along with everybody. And on some key policies | :06:59. | :07:00.
like immigration, he seemed to be But it was the Republican Party | :07:01. | :07:03.
leadership he was most notably And yes, his new | :07:04. | :07:06.
favourite word again. I would love to see | :07:07. | :07:09.
the Republican Party and everybody And when we unify there's nobody, | :07:10. | :07:13.
nobody, that is going to beat us. This has been toned down, | :07:14. | :07:29.
much more conciliatory Donald Trump at his news conference, | :07:30. | :07:35.
stressing that he is a unifier Gone were the sharp | :07:36. | :07:37.
attacks on his rivals. It is almost as though | :07:38. | :07:40.
he is looking beyond this process to when he is the | :07:41. | :07:43.
Republican nominee. This man is arithmetically best | :07:44. | :07:45.
