Millions face higher electricity bills after British Gas

:00:00.:00:08.

The company says there'll be help for the poorest households

:00:09.:00:14.

but a typical bill will go up by nearly ?80.

:00:15.:00:24.

They seemed to overcharge and the bills go up, prices go up and then

:00:25.:00:30.

they do not go down when prices go down. I guess you have the option to

:00:31.:00:34.

choose a different supplier. We'll be asking why bills

:00:35.:00:36.

are going up while wholesale It's 50 times more

:00:37.:00:38.

powerful than heroin - Fenatanyl, the drug that's led

:00:39.:00:42.

to dozens of deaths. Moped menace - police reveal

prepares for his final bow. We'll hear from Usain Bolt's pre

world championships press Good evening and welcome

:01:16.:01:17.

to the BBC News at Six. Over three million British Gas

:01:18.:01:45.

customers face a hefty rise The company argues that it's

:01:46.:01:47.

own costs have risen - and from September it will charge

:01:48.:01:52.

12.5% more for electricity. Well, a typical household

:01:53.:01:57.

on a dual fuel tariff will see its annual bill go up

:01:58.:02:05.

by ?76. It's the first increase

:02:06.:02:08.

from British Gas for nearly four years but that hasn't stopped

:02:09.:02:10.

consumer groups and the government Our business editor,

:02:11.:02:12.

Simon Jack, reports. Electricity, a basic need, a simple

:02:13.:02:29.

product. The same wherever all whoever you buy it from. If you buy

:02:30.:02:34.

from British Gas it will be 12.5% more expensive from September as the

:02:35.:02:39.

U:K.'s largest supplier, it hikes prices for the first time in four

:02:40.:02:43.

years. Given wholesale costs have come down over that period, why

:02:44.:02:47.

waste prices now. We agree over the last few years since we dropped

:02:48.:02:53.

electricity prices the last time, wholesale costs have indeed fallen

:02:54.:02:57.

by about ?36 on a typical bill. But we've seen these other factors of

:02:58.:03:02.

transmission and distribution costs and energy policy costs go up by

:03:03.:03:07.

almost ?100. That is the main driver. Electricity may be a simple

:03:08.:03:10.

commodity but the factors that influence its price are complicated.

:03:11.:03:13.

22% of the bill is made up of the company's operational

:03:14.:03:15.

The wholesale price makes up 36% of the bill, that's the price at

:03:16.:03:21.

which the energy suppliers buy the energy they then sell on to us.

:03:22.:03:25.

But British Gas concedes that this has

:03:26.:03:27.

actually fallen since the beginning of the year.

:03:28.:03:29.

Then there's the cost of delivering the electricity to our

:03:30.:03:31.

British Gas says rising costs here is one reason responsible for

:03:32.:03:39.

But figures from Ofgem show these costs fell over the last

:03:40.:03:43.

The other one is government policy, that makes up 13% and that

:03:44.:03:48.

includes increases to renewable energy and promoting energy saving

:03:49.:03:50.

British Gas says they're going up, Ofgem

:03:51.:03:55.

No wonder some consumers are confused. They make it as

:03:56.:04:11.

complicated as they can and people do not understand. The bills are not

:04:12.:04:14.

clear. I do not know where British Gas are coming from but you have the

:04:15.:04:19.

option to choose another supplier. Wholesale prices have stayed the

:04:20.:04:23.

same or have gone down as far as I know. They put them up for consumers

:04:24.:04:28.

and that is disgusting. British Gas froze prices when others raised them

:04:29.:04:31.

earlier in the year so it is catching up with the rest of the

:04:32.:04:35.

pack. Consumer groups say it is the responsibility

:04:36.:04:49.

of government to take industrywide action. Government needs to urgently

:04:50.:04:52.

look at what it does for those customers who are paying over the

:04:53.:04:55.

odds. There has been so much discussion about the energy market

:04:56.:04:57.

and that it does not work for consumers. The discussion needs to

:04:58.:05:00.

end and we need action. According to the opposition, that action should

:05:01.:05:02.

include a cap on energy prices. The Labour Party would introduce an

:05:03.:05:04.

initial price cap and develop the energy supplies so that this cartel

:05:05.:05:07.

we have now could not control pricing levels and holders over a

:05:08.:05:13.

barrel in future. Policies like capping energy prices to support

:05:14.:05:17.

working families... The Conservatives had a cap in a

:05:18.:05:19.

manifesto but it was dropped from the Queen's Speech and now the

:05:20.:05:23.

government wants Ofgem to find a way to keep costs down energy remains a

:05:24.:05:28.

hot political issue. Simon Jack, BBC News.

:05:29.:05:29.

Our Political correspondent Alex Forsyth is in Westminster.

:05:30.:05:35.

The government has condemned this rise. But what can the government

:05:36.:05:42.

do, we've just heard it was an election issue? All political

:05:43.:05:45.

parties have been banned the price rise, Labour has said it is

:05:46.:05:49.

unacceptable, the government says it could affect customers already on

:05:50.:05:53.

the lowest value tariffs. But the question remains what could and

:05:54.:05:57.

should the government do. Theresa May had said during the election

:05:58.:06:01.

campaign, that the Conservatives would introduce an energy price cap.

:06:02.:06:06.

But when she lost a majority that plan was shelved. In part because a

:06:07.:06:10.

Brexit, the government already has a heavy programme of legislation and

:06:11.:06:13.

they know not all Conservative MPs backed the idea of a price cap so

:06:14.:06:17.

that is not the Parliamentary battle but want to enter into right now.

:06:18.:06:22.

They said the regulator Ofgem has sufficient powers and they're

:06:23.:06:25.

waiting for the results of a consultation from Ofgem which could

:06:26.:06:32.

see proposals for a more limited cap perhaps for the most vulnerable

:06:33.:06:34.

customers. But ministers insist the idea of a wider cap is not off the

:06:35.:06:38.

table. That is something of a threat to the energy companies saying if

:06:39.:06:41.

you do not take action, we could. But do not expect that any time

:06:42.:06:45.

soon. Allow the government is keen to be seen to be talking tough this.

:06:46.:06:49.

60 people have died in the UK in the past eight months

:06:50.:06:52.

after taking the painkilling drug Fentanyl - according

:06:53.:06:54.

It's the drug that was linked to the death of the rock legend

:06:55.:06:59.

Prince, and is 50 times more potent than heroin.

:07:00.:07:01.

These latest figures might just be the tip of the iceberg -

:07:02.:07:04.

there are another 70 cases in which Fentanyl is

:07:05.:07:06.

As June Kelly reports two thirds of the known deaths have

:07:07.:07:13.

been in the Yorkshire, Humberside and Cleveland areas.

:07:14.:07:25.

The rock legend Prince died suddenly last year at the age of 57. Fans

:07:26.:07:32.

gathered near his home in Minnesota where his body was found.

:07:33.:07:43.

# Purple rain... A year on, medical examiners concluded his death was

:07:44.:07:47.

due to an accidental overdose of the drug Fentanyl. It was unclear where

:07:48.:07:51.

he had got it from and no one was charged over his death. Fentanyl was

:07:52.:07:56.

a drug used to treat cancer patients. But now police in the UK

:07:57.:08:01.

are becoming concerned at its growing use by drug addicts here. It

:08:02.:08:05.

is said to be 50 times more powerful than heroin. And it is killing

:08:06.:08:11.

people. Sean who does not want his face shone, lost a sister to a

:08:12.:08:20.

suspected Fentanyl overdose a few months ago. She had gone and bought

:08:21.:08:23.

some and she knew what it was. She went back to the hostel, and we

:08:24.:08:27.

found two days later. And most of those who lost their lives have been

:08:28.:08:34.

heroin users. To be that far gone on heroin and other drugs, the

:08:35.:08:37.

lifestyle that they lead, nothing matters to them. They just want that

:08:38.:08:42.

relief. Just getting away from the world for an hour or two. Fentanyl

:08:43.:08:49.

is so lethal that this is how police were kitted up when they raided a

:08:50.:08:53.

suspect 's house. Protected against breathing it in. There is an even

:08:54.:08:58.

more powerful substance, a tiny grain of this could prove fatal. So

:08:59.:09:01.

why are more people using these drugs question mark we believe this

:09:02.:09:08.

is partly down to the ongoing need for dealers to be trying to compete

:09:09.:09:13.

with each other and sometimes introducing drugs in the marketplace

:09:14.:09:17.

they believe might give them a competitive edge. And increase

:09:18.:09:23.

profits. Fentanyl is known as a synthetic opioid and addicts mixed

:09:24.:09:26.

with heroin. Police say people are playing Russian roulette with their

:09:27.:09:30.

lives. Every time they take it. Jim Kelly, BBC News.

:09:31.:09:32.

Police in London are having to adopt new tactics to deal

:09:33.:09:34.

Criminals on two wheels have been riding around the city targeting

:09:35.:09:38.

Police say the number of incidents have tripled in the last year

:09:39.:09:43.

and now the thieves are even travelling to London

:09:44.:09:45.

Our special correspondent Lucy Manning has been investigating

:09:46.:09:48.

the growing threat from moped gangs.

:09:49.:09:58.

Last night near Harrods police and fire brigade rushed to a pet gang

:09:59.:10:04.

attack. Liquid, possibly acid, thrown at the victim as they tried

:10:05.:10:10.

to steal his watch. A few months ago in east London and a motorcyclist is

:10:11.:10:15.

surrounded by four mopeds. A fire extinguisher let off in his face. In

:10:16.:10:19.

London it is increasingly the crime of choice for teenage offenders.

:10:20.:10:23.

Police telling the BBC the average age of mopeds gangs is 15. With some

:10:24.:10:31.

just 13. Please send me the location of where he is. Delivery driver

:10:32.:10:38.

Hussein was attacked three weeks ago on his mopeds when acid was thrown

:10:39.:10:42.

at him as they stole his bike. He is now part of a social media group

:10:43.:10:46.

with hundreds of mopeds drivers warning if a gang is spotted.

:10:47.:10:50.

Another alert comes in. Just turning left to go towards my next job. Two

:10:51.:10:57.

guys on one bike. Just be careful. How often are people posting that

:10:58.:11:02.

the thing these mopeds around? Today, so many. Police do not stop

:11:03.:11:11.

or chase them. They're getting away. We're going to meet other delivery

:11:12.:11:15.

drivers, some have stopped working after ten o'clock at night, they're

:11:16.:11:20.

so scared of the mopeds gangs. Where are you seeing the mopeds?

:11:21.:11:24.

Everywhere, everywhere around and police do not care. It is not men,

:11:25.:11:34.

it is kids. 16, your life in danger. From someone who will come. When we

:11:35.:11:39.

are just stopped at traffic lights. Someone could attack from behind. As

:11:40.:11:48.

we talk, a bike cuts across the pavement, the driver and passenger

:11:49.:11:52.

with their faces covered. Do not fill me. The delivery drivers say

:11:53.:11:57.

this is one of the mopeds gangs, they threaten our team. Later we

:11:58.:12:02.

check the number plate, it is not insured and has changed colour.

:12:03.:12:07.

Police believe the characteristics of a stolen bike. The last year

:12:08.:12:10.

there were 16,000 mopeds related crimes in London. Three times as

:12:11.:12:15.

many as the previous year. But the BBC has been told police are testing

:12:16.:12:19.

a new way of catching the attackers. Spraying them with liquid that can

:12:20.:12:25.

later be traced. We're looking at a that delivers a unique DNA piece

:12:26.:12:30.

which sprays on them and can be traced back to them later on. If

:12:31.:12:36.

equipment or clothing or the bike is sprayed. And can use bravest on them

:12:37.:12:41.

as they are taking off? Potentially, yes. Were trying to find a way to do

:12:42.:12:46.

that safely. It is being tested under Home Office guidelines. Police

:12:47.:12:51.

insist they often give chase. There is a misconception that there is

:12:52.:12:57.

less pleasant and people do not reported but the number of pursuits

:12:58.:13:02.

has increased. You do not pursue every mopeds gangs when a call comes

:13:03.:13:08.

in? That is true but the reality is by the time we get the call for most

:13:09.:13:13.

of these offences, it has already gone. Online is also a brazen.

:13:14.:13:19.

Bristol bike taker, with pictures of mopeds, Mass riders and bolt

:13:20.:13:23.

cutters. Avon and Somerset police were investigating say the account

:13:24.:13:26.

is used to taunt the owners of stolen bikes. Others appear to offer

:13:27.:13:33.

keys for sale to unlock mopeds. And teenagers post videos of themselves

:13:34.:13:36.

driving recklessly, breaking traffic laws. This is believed to be riders

:13:37.:13:44.

filming themselves being chased by the police. A police video shows

:13:45.:13:49.

phone thieves fling up the wrong side of the M11. The BBC has been

:13:50.:13:52.

told mopeds gangs are now coming into London from Kent, Sussex,

:13:53.:13:56.

Surrey in Buckinghamshire. Police believe the growing problem in the

:13:57.:13:59.

capital will spread across the country. Lucy Manning, BBC News.

:14:00.:14:02.

The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford is having to close

:14:03.:14:05.

its trauma unit for a year because of fire safety

:14:06.:14:07.

concerns over cladding on the outside of the building.

:14:08.:14:09.

The hospital is moving 52 beds to other wards and the unit will be

:14:10.:14:13.

It comes after a review of the cladding took place

:14:14.:14:17.

A great day at the White House - that was Donald Trump's assessment

:14:18.:14:27.

last night after his new director of communications,

:14:28.:14:29.

Anthony Scaramucci, was sacked even before he'd formally taken

:14:30.:14:31.

Not for the first time the president seemed at odds with many observers

:14:32.:14:38.

Here's our North America Editor Jon Sopel.

:14:39.:14:48.

It's being billed as the Last Supper.

:14:49.:14:50.

Anthony Scaramucci last night having dinner at where else,

:14:51.:14:53.

the restaurant in the Trump hotel, just hours after he'd been

:14:54.:14:55.

At roughly the same time came this extraordinary

:14:56.:14:59.

The swearing-in of General John Kelly as chief of staff

:15:00.:15:11.

being seen as a new beginning for this administration.

:15:12.:15:17.

He will do a spectacular job, I have no doubt.

:15:18.:15:19.

So could this mark the end of what's been a turbulent,

:15:20.:15:26.

dysfunctional six-months for all the President's men?

:15:27.:15:28.

The former National Security Adviser was the first to go.

:15:29.:15:30.

Fired after just 24 days in the job after he lied about his contacts

:15:31.:15:34.

Three months after being fired, Trump's first communications

:15:35.:15:39.

director, the rather anonymous Mike Dubke, handed

:15:40.:15:42.

The high profile and brutal dismissal of the former FBI

:15:43.:15:51.

Infuriating the president with his investigation into links

:15:52.:15:56.

between the Russians and the Trump campaign.

:15:57.:16:01.

11 days ago it was the turn of beleaguered press

:16:02.:16:03.

He walked, furious that President Trump had

:16:04.:16:07.

hired Anthony Scaramucci as communications director.

:16:08.:16:13.

The departure of Reince Priebus came as little surprise

:16:14.:16:15.

after he was subject to a vicious verbal attack by incoming

:16:16.:16:17.

After just ten days into the job, The Mooch was front stabbed

:16:18.:16:27.

An easy kill for the former 4-star Marine General.

:16:28.:16:33.

The profound hope among those close to President Trump is that

:16:34.:16:36.

with general Kelly in charge, there will be a fundamental change

:16:37.:16:38.

A change in personnel leading to high expectations followed

:16:39.:16:49.

But in the meantime the late-night comedians are making hay.

:16:50.:16:59.

The president has been very busy repealing

:17:00.:17:00.

and replacing his staff, most notably Anthony

:17:01.:17:02.

Lated as communications director for only ten days!

:17:03.:17:13.

And he left us with nothing but memories,

:17:14.:17:15.

But some things are still refreshingly familiar.

:17:16.:17:27.

Donald Trump tweeted a short time ago, only the fake news media

:17:28.:17:30.

and Trump enemies want me to stop using social media.

:17:31.:17:32.

Only way for me to get the truth out.

:17:33.:17:36.

Over three million British Gas customers face a hefty rise

:17:37.:17:55.

We meet the racing driver who nearly died in a crash -

:17:56.:18:02.

but could be on the brink of a return to Formula One.

:18:03.:18:06.

England suffer their first major injury blow of Euro 2017.

:18:07.:18:12.

Keeper Karen Bardsley will miss the rest of the tournament

:18:13.:18:15.

after it's revealed she broke her leg in the quarter

:18:16.:18:17.

Now, we know this is a huge issue for those of you who live and work

:18:18.:18:31.

in the countryside - the difficulty in getting anything

:18:32.:18:33.

Three years ago about 20% of the UK could only get a partial service.

:18:34.:18:39.

Since then the government has been rolling out super-fast broadband

:18:40.:18:42.

and announced a ?30 million investment to improve

:18:43.:18:45.

A pilot scheme in Monmouthshire could also help - Sian Lloyd has

:18:46.:18:52.

Some of the best views in Monmouthshire.

:18:53.:19:00.

Film-maker Martin Phillips moved here for the scenery,

:19:01.:19:02.

which often features in his productions.

:19:03.:19:05.

Sending footage to his clients over the internet can be slow.

:19:06.:19:12.

That's about to change after this aerial was fitted outside his home.

:19:13.:19:18.

Martin's property is part of a pilot scheme which uses

:19:19.:19:22.

the space between TV signals to deliver high-speed broadband.

:19:23.:19:26.

Having the TV whitespace broadband system installed

:19:27.:19:28.

is going to revolutionise the way that I work from home.

:19:29.:19:31.

It's the consistency that makes the difference for us.

:19:32.:19:34.

It is knowing once you press a button it will work, it will send.

:19:35.:19:38.

And the fact that it is raining or cloudy or windy outside isn't

:19:39.:19:41.

Whitespace broadband uses TV broadcast frequencies left over

:19:42.:19:48.

from the digital switchover to send a broadband signal

:19:49.:19:50.

Like a television signal, it doesn't need direct line of sight.

:19:51.:19:56.

And can travel up to ten kilometres over hills,

:19:57.:19:59.

through buildings and trees, direct to people's homes.

:20:00.:20:04.

It has been recognised for some time that whitespace broadband can help

:20:05.:20:07.

plug the gaps in coverage in places like this.

:20:08.:20:11.

What's new according to the companies involved in this

:20:12.:20:14.

project in Monmouthshire is that now it is commercially viable and can

:20:15.:20:17.

However some industry experts believe more should've been done

:20:18.:20:25.

to deliver fibre broadband to as many homes as possible.

:20:26.:20:30.

The former chief technical officer of BT says rural

:20:31.:20:35.

All of these stopgap measures are like a finger in a dyke,

:20:36.:20:41.

they underprovide the bandwidth, they hardly meet today's needs

:20:42.:20:43.

So the thing that is the problem here is we are wasting billions

:20:44.:20:51.

betting on things that cannot possibly meet our

:20:52.:20:53.

The UK's broadband infrastructure is run by Openreach,

:20:54.:21:00.

it agreed to split from BT following concerns from

:21:01.:21:02.

80,000 internet exchange boxes like this one have been installed

:21:03.:21:10.

across the country to connect fibre broadband to properties.

:21:11.:21:14.

But have they focused on providing faster speeds to urban areas

:21:15.:21:17.

at the expense of rolling out coverage to rural communities?

:21:18.:21:21.

There has been some deployment in urban areas which was done

:21:22.:21:25.

commercially by ourselves and other people, but the rural roll-out

:21:26.:21:28.

And you will find that the gaps are being closed.

:21:29.:21:34.

There was no sign of fibre broadband reaching Martin Phillips.

:21:35.:21:38.

He is pinning his hopes on TV whitespace.

:21:39.:21:41.

But the extent to which this technology will be taken up more

:21:42.:21:44.

widely will depend on how many companies get on board.

:21:45.:21:46.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most challenging to treat -

:21:47.:21:57.

fewer than 7% of patients make it beyond five years after diagnosis.

:21:58.:22:01.

Now a team based in Birmingham believe that moving to surgery

:22:02.:22:04.

earlier than is currently the case could improve success rates.

:22:05.:22:07.

Over 9,500 people are diagnosed with the cancer each year in the UK.

:22:08.:22:12.

In a pilot scheme involving 32 patients, the average waiting time

:22:13.:22:15.

from diagnosis to surgery was cut from two months to two weeks.

:22:16.:22:21.

In the vast majority of those cases - 31 patients -

:22:22.:22:24.

Doctors say it will be two years before they can be really sure

:22:25.:22:30.

if operating earlier does extend life chances.

:22:31.:22:38.

There's been a second day of trouble at a prison in Hertfordshire

:22:39.:22:41.

where armed inmates have taken over a wing and smashed windows.

:22:42.:22:50.

Riot-trained teams were sent to HMP The Mount

:22:51.:22:52.

The Ministry of Justice says the disturbance

:22:53.:23:02.

Yesterday at least 50 cells were thought to have been damaged

:23:03.:23:06.

No-one was said to have been injured in that initial violence.

:23:07.:23:10.

He's the fastest man in history, with eight Olympic Golds

:23:11.:23:13.

But Usain Bolt's glittering career is about to come to an end.

:23:14.:23:16.

He'll run his last ever 100 metre race at the World Athletics

:23:17.:23:19.

Championships in London this Saturday - and his final sprint

:23:20.:23:24.

He's been giving a press conference this afternoon

:23:25.:23:30.

and our Sports Correspondent Natalie Pirks was there.

:23:31.:23:35.

There are not many other athletes who would need to move their

:23:36.:23:40.

conference because so many journalists applied to be here. In

:23:41.:23:43.

addition to his records and medals there is the 11 World Championship

:23:44.:23:49.

gold medals he holds and he hopes to add another two in London. Nobody

:23:50.:23:54.

transcends the sport the way he does, he walked on stage, booing us

:23:55.:23:58.

because we did not applaud him enough. He has a magnetic

:23:59.:24:04.

personality, a natural ability and a personality which has made him one

:24:05.:24:07.

of the best paid stars in the world worth around ?45 million. What are

:24:08.:24:15.

we going to do without him? Today he attended dance what he is going to

:24:16.:24:19.

do without the rush of competing. I don't know what I am going to do,

:24:20.:24:23.

this is why I think I want to play football, to change it up, get a

:24:24.:24:28.

different rush. But we will see where life takes me, you never know

:24:29.:24:32.

in which direction I am going to go, I might act in some action movies,

:24:33.:24:37.

that will give me a rush. You never know. The debate has been raging on

:24:38.:24:43.

social media today after Lord Coe likened his exploits to those of

:24:44.:24:47.

Muhammad Ali, telling him as a genius. Whether you believe he is up

:24:48.:24:51.

there with Muhammad Ali you have two Siki is the best sprinter the world

:24:52.:24:55.

has ever seen and he fully expects to wake up to more headlines on

:24:56.:24:59.

Sunday morning of unstoppable and unbeatable Usain Bolt.

:25:00.:25:03.

He's been described as the finest racing driver of his generation.

:25:04.:25:05.

The Polish driver, Robert Kubica, was amongst

:25:06.:25:08.

the fastest in Formula One - until one horrific accident in 2011

:25:09.:25:13.

His arm was severely injured but he has fought back and tomorrow

:25:14.:25:19.

takes part in what's being seen as a crucial test.

:25:20.:25:22.

He's been speaking exclusively to Joe Wilson about that

:25:23.:25:24.

terrible accident - along with his motor racing

:25:25.:25:26.

A Renault Formula 1 car. Approaching 200 mph. Imagine driving it. And

:25:27.:25:42.

then imagine driving it without the full use of one of your arms. Nice

:25:43.:25:51.

to see you. Robert Kubica is in Hungary to discover if you truly

:25:52.:25:56.

can. His injuries are there to see and restrict him to this day. I am

:25:57.:26:01.

waking up every morning at home, I am doing usual stuff at home. I

:26:02.:26:07.

train, I recycle, I do all the stuff probably most of the people do. But

:26:08.:26:13.

most people don't drive a car at 200 mph. But actually I can see easily

:26:14.:26:18.

that I have more limitations are lit say my limitations have a bigger

:26:19.:26:21.

influence on daily life than in driving the cars. Driving the car is

:26:22.:26:31.

easier? COO easier. Other drivers believed he was the most talented

:26:32.:26:35.

man on the grid, a future world champion. He told me it was the

:26:36.:26:38.

desire to become even better which took him into a rally car in his

:26:39.:26:46.

time off. He crashed. Andorra, February 20 11. Everything changed.

:26:47.:26:49.

Did you think you would lose the arm? Probably first of all we have

:26:50.:26:56.

to say big thanks to them. Because the easiest thing probably would be

:26:57.:27:02.

to get rid of it. But in reality the first big moment I was fighting to

:27:03.:27:09.

be alive. This is a crucial time for teams to test cars which is why

:27:10.:27:14.

Robert Kubica is here working for Renault, test driving for Renault.

:27:15.:27:18.

The possibility is he could be driving in the Formula 1

:27:19.:27:22.

championship next season. Maybe, just maybe, even this season. I need

:27:23.:27:28.

to be sure I am able at least to come as close as possible to the

:27:29.:27:32.

level I was before my accident. And this will be the target. So before

:27:33.:27:38.

doing this I need to be sure I am able to do this. Actually the last

:27:39.:27:44.

two days it has helped me a lot. I feel pretty comfortable I will be

:27:45.:27:50.

able to do it. Formula 1 would love to see Kubica return, his comeback

:27:51.:27:54.

would grip the sport like nothing else. But he is a realist, not a

:27:55.:27:59.

romantic. A driver must know he can rely on himself before anything

:28:00.:28:03.

else. Joe Wilson, BBC News, Budapest.

:28:04.:28:07.

Brave man. Associated weather fronts heading

:28:08.:28:19.

our way quickly, bringing wind and rain, ahead of that a day of sunny

:28:20.:28:24.

spells and heavy showers, sunshine in Chiswick in London in the

:28:25.:28:27.

mid-afternoon but for many the sky looked much more like this,

:28:28.:28:32.

threatening and we saw thunderstorms, hail, heavy dense

:28:33.:28:36.

boards as well. Thunderstorms and showers fading away over the next

:28:37.:28:39.

few hours and skies were clear for many then we looked to the South

:28:40.:28:45.

West of this rain to push its way by Don, 15 or 16 degrees then some

:28:46.:28:50.

parts of central and northern Scotland will be dipping well into

:28:51.:28:55.

single figures so chilly. If you start with brighter weather in East

:28:56.:28:58.

England make the most of it because the rain is moving its way

:28:59.:29:01.

northwards and eastwards, should dry up in Northern Ireland to some

:29:02.:29:05.

extent, pretty miserable through the afternoon for south Wales and

:29:06.:29:08.

southern England and temperatures at the best only 19 or 20, so

:29:09.:29:13.

disappointing all around. These weather fronts continue to work in

:29:14.:29:17.

north and east overnight into thirsty and in the low drifts

:29:18.:29:20.

towards the north-west which will bring a whole crop of showers. By

:29:21.:29:26.

which stage we should be into double figures across the board, 12-1516.

:29:27.:29:33.

Thursday looks like another blustery day, quite wet, showers to the north

:29:34.:29:40.

and west, not too many down to the south-east, largely dry here, 21 or

:29:41.:29:45.

22 degrees warmer but Wendy. Another windy day for all parts on Friday

:29:46.:29:49.

and another day of sunny spells and showers and most of them will be in

:29:50.:29:53.

the north and west, not too many getting down towards the south-east

:29:54.:29:57.

corner. Largely dry in the London area.
