Good evening. This is BBC Newsline. The headlines this Tuesday evening:

appeals for calm after 22 police officers were injured in the

rioting in Belfast. Fire crews had to respond to hundreds of calls.

Hundreds of Orangemen take part in 12th July parades.

The latest on an investigation into a Derry doctor found to have

carried out a sexually motivated examination on a patient.

And they will be hit and miss again, but some of us will still be

dodging showers tomorrow. Join me later in programme.

There have been appeals for calm tonight as Orangemen, bands and

supporters have their return parade through Ardoyne in north Belfast.

Residents are holding a protest, as they did this morning. In west

Belfast last night, vehicles were hijacked and 22 police officers

injured in attacks by nationalist youths. Attacks on foreign

nationals by loyalists were reported in Ballymena and Portadown.

Traditionally, it is here in Ardoyne in north Belfast where

there is tension on the 12th. But this morning, all that faced the

small number of people parading was a peaceful nationalist protest.

They marched to the beat of a single drum. There was some

shouting and jostling as Republicans tried to leave the area,

but the situation was quickly defused. That was not the case in

west Belfast last night. Just after Falls Road, the police faced up to

200 masked nationalist youths. Water cannons have to be used.

There was concern it would spread to a local hospital site. This

building has just been built. the clean-up got under way this

morning, Sinn Fein said that some of those involved in the disorder

had been from outside of the area and intent on a recreational

rioting. Basically what you had was local people terrified in their own

homes. Devastation has been left in the wake of people from outside of

the area. In Portadown, three homes were attacked in the early hours of

the morning. They are occupied by foreign nationals. It is near to

the site of a loyalist bonfire. One of the residents, from Portugal,

did not want to appear on camera. The you frightened? Yes. I don't

know if they are going to come back. Elsewhere in Portadown there was

also rioting and two police officers were injured.

The Fire Service had one of its busiest 11th nights. It dealt with

over 200 incidents last night, a 65 per cent increase on last year. The

Deputy Chief Fire Officer told me about the pressure his people were

under. We had a number of incidents and and number of larger fires, all

happening at the same time. When at the crews were responding to

Bonfire incidents, other crews from outside Belfast were trying to

dampen down properties where the bonfires threatened to spread. It

is a credit and a tribute to be engaged a work of our officers with

councillors and communities that those fires were put out and they

were allowed to go about their work without incident. How has it

affected young men? -- your men. Any attack on a fire fighter adds a

frightening dimension to what is an already hazardous occupation. Our

across Northern Ireland. Today, Belfast boasted 70 bans. They were

led off from clan at Circus and 10 o'clock this morning. There was a

heavy downpour during the early part of the parade. Families were

decked out in traditional colours as the parade went by and headed

for the City Centre. Spectators and flags were ready and waiting.

we are here celebrating, it is great for everyone. All of them,

determined to join the parade and have a good time.

Nowhere is that drum more popular than in County Armagh. With many

bans and lodgers, the county Armagh parade claims to be the 12th

A GP in Londonderry has been suspended for nine months after he

was found to have carried out a sexually motivated examination on a

patient. The General Medical Council says Dr Lee Casey took

advantage of the woman who had gone to his surgery with flu-like

symptoms. Hitachi Saeed -- Natasha Sayee is

in Londonderry now. The woman went to Oakley medical

centre because she wasn't feeling well. That is one of two separate

medical practices that operating out of the same building. She was

examined by Dr Lee Casey and as a result, she made for allegations

against him. The GMC has upheld two of those and concluded that he

placed his hand inside her bra when there was no medical need for him

to do so. The GMC has described this as a gross breach of trust. A

few minutes before we came on air, the panel looking at what action

they can take against Dr Casey, has decided to suspend him for nine

months. That report and said that because of the age of the

misconduct, a lengthy period of suspension is required but because

of the recognition of his exemplary career, it has imposed a period of

nine months rather than a suspension rather than the maximum

of 12 months. Any comment? Dr Casey has denied any wrongdoing and his

family has issued a statement through a low wall newspaper. They

say it has been a distressing time for them. -- they have given a

statement through the local newspaper. In a statement, they

pointed out when the police investigated this in 2008, they

referred it on to the Public Prosecution Service we then decided

not to take it any further. It also said that Dr Casey will be taking

this to court in order to clear his name and his professional

reputation. The BBC has contacted a practice member and they say the

practice supports him 100 %. The home of a Slovakian family has

been targeted with a race it -- racist attack. The house was set

alight and the couple and their baby escaped. It is the second

incident in a week. On Saturday there was a shooting at the home of

a Polish couple. A man has appeared in court charged

with attempted murder. He McCormack from Stanfield place at Belfast is

accused of trying to kill 42-year- old Joe Henry who was stabbed in

the throat 10 days ago. He is critically ill.

Golf's Open Championship is preparing itself for Romania.

In keeping with the trend that started on 12th July, the big

shopping centres in some of the major stores in Belfast city centre

decided to open for a few hours this afternoon. They didn't have

the usual trade but many people took the opportunity to spend a few

pounds. These guys with colourful attire

entertained the crowds. Not what you might expect but efforts to get

tales in the city centre ringing. For on average people come in and

see a street show and spend �30 in the city. There is a benefit to the

shops and traders in the centre. This is the third year the shops

have opened. Isn't it -- business isn't quite beaming but the retail

sector says it is improving. It is better than last year and the year

before. We are getting there and they still a lot of hard work to do.

We have to create the conditions of confidence so all retailers can

open up on this day and they don't lose trade and town. -- time.

on Thursday before showers develop through the course of the day. We

have to be prepared for the odd shower over the next couple of days.
