Good evening. This is BBC Newsline. The headlines: The Real IRA is

blamed for bomb attacks on Catholic police officer and on a doctor who

works for the PSNI. This is a man who is the chairman

of the Board of trustees. This is a man who spends his life helping

others. We speak to the doctor whose home was attacked.

Ulster Unionist leaders are to face Orange Order disciplinary meetings

were -- proceedings for attending the funeral of mass murdered

policeman Ronan Kerr. The search for Karen Coyles was

that of the London on to this coastline.

BBC Newsline investigates the industry of private tuition for the

unregulated transferred test. The wind has these and the rain has

been clearing but it is not likely to stay that way for long.

Good evening. The homes of the Catholic PSNI officer and a doctor

who has worked with police as a forensic Medical Officer have been

targeted an overnight bomb attacks near Claudy. No one was hurt. In a

moment we will speak to Keith that -- Doctor Keith Munro.

The more senior police officer in Londonderry says he believes the

Real IRA was responsible and has described their tax as reckless and

desperate. Residents outside Claudy say they

first became aware of an attack late last night. Neighbours say it

is normally a quiet country area and they are shocked by what

happened. We heard a loud bang at around 12:15pm. The police came to

the door and said that there had been an incident. There was a big

bang. The house shook. We did not know what it was. The police say a

device damaged the front door of his serving PSNI of us are. He has

been in the service for the three years. They discovered his home had

been targeted early this afternoon -- morning after a night should.

Pre-summit should is strong condemnation. They say it was a

cowardly bomb attack. They have urged anyone in this community to

come forward. Parishioners attending Mass condemned the

bombers. There are people who do not move on and will not allow

society and to move on. The attack a peace-loving family who are doing

their best to bring us forward to a better future. It is shocking that

this has happened at this time. It is a very criteria. There has been

no trouble here. In a separate attacks several miles away, army

bomb disposal experts were called to deal with the device. Dr Keith

Munro has worked with the police over many years. We have a police

doctor, a person who has been a doctor and a police doctor for over

40 years, who spent his professional life coming to police

stations, ensuring that people here arrested by the police get the

medical attention they deserve. Ensure that their welfare is looked

after. He is the chairman of the board of trustees. He spends his

life helping others. Last night, these two servants of the community

were targeted by people whose actions stand in stark contrast to

their own. Police say the men, two of whom are aged 36 and the other

who is 20 years of age have been arrested in Derry.

Back in April, the cult -- Ulster Unionist leader Tom Eliot and the

party's Executive Minister Danny Kennedy attended the funeral of the

murdered Catholic police constable Ronan Kerr. Now we can reveal they

are to face internal disciplinary proceedings within the Orange Order

for doing so. A lodge in Belfast has made a formal complaint against

the two men. Man at's funeral was remarkable. --

Ronan Kerr's funeral was remarkable. But unlike the other politicians

present, they are members of the Orange Order. Mr Kennedy belongs to

a lodge in County Armagh. Mr Elliott is a former county master.

It bands its members from attending Catholic funerals. There was a

letter of complaint written to the Grand Lodge. That lodge has gone

further. They are making formal complaints to the two men county

lodges which means further action will follow. This is the logic

behind the complaints. -- the lodge. They are taking part in the Belfast

12th. It alleges the two men had sold out principles for political

expediency. They should have known better. Neither Tom Eliot nor Danny

Kennedy would comment today but a source close to them said they had

no regrets and they believe they had done the right thing by

attending constable care's funeral and they had no hesitation in

supporting his family. They felt no less orange our union us for doing

so and that they were annoyed that the kind of mindset displayed by

Ilott here was that complained about them. A spokesman for the

Orange Order said its complaints procedure is a private matter.

Unfortunately for them this now threatens to become very public

indeed. The search is continuing for the

missing woman Karen Coyles. The 47- year-old to was the chairman of a

local club has not been seen since Sunday night. Her car was found

outside Ballycastle cheap died club -- -- GAA club.

This is a sea of the search far Karen Coyles. Having spent the day

here, it has been another troubling day for this community and for her

family. While hope still remained that she would be found safe and

well, fears are growing this evening.

The search is now focused here about 1.5 miles away from her car

was found. Friends from this area have been helping out all day,

others have travelled from neighbouring blocks. We have had

numerous contacts from clubs from all around the county. It is really

just a matter of the fact that everyone is together and doing

their bit. Just shocked. It is not Karen. Karen is well respected,

well-loved in the community by everybody. Karen is one of those

people, I expect her to walk in here and ask, how can I help, what

is going on here. Everybody knew Karen. It is out of character for

her. Something is not right here. This is the coastline along

Ballycastle. It is a very rugged coastline. Extensive searches have

been carried out on the land along the cliff faces and at sea.

This afternoon there was a renewed focus on this area. A couple of

divers went into the bottom of the cliff-face. Out of a camera's view

I watched as two divers looked around the rocks. And while the

specialist team did their set, volunteers will look on the land.

We were along the rocks, there was nothing at all. I thought I would

come up here and scan along the cliff with binoculars. Intensive

searching has been prompted by a train search-and-rescue dog. The

dogs searched the area at dawn. It indicated there were some clues

around here. Joining me in Ballycastle is

someone from the committee rescue service. The reaction from the dog

was significant. It was. It led us to the general area at the moment.

Air allowed other teams to identify any idea that we are concentrating

on. You will have your specialised team working year through this

evening and tomorrow. specialist teams have work today

and they will continue. The ground search team will work the rest of

the evening as well. Thank you for joining us. While much of the fog

is now will be on the search-and- rescue and the possible outcome,

here this evening the feelings and the mood of this community is quite

sombre but they are sharing in the agony of Karen's family.

Unemployment has risen again in Northern Ireland, although the rate

of increase remains the UK average. End of this there were 60,400

claimants, that is a 100 on the previous month. It means the

unemployment rate for the last three months is 7.4% compared to

the UK average of 7.9%. A young woman had told police she

was raped in roots in front of her children has appeared in court. But

she is being accused of wasting police time and perverting the

course of justice. This will month appeared in court

for the first time today. She made allegations of rape in March. Back

then she told police she was walking here, near her home with

her two children when she was attacked by a man who sexually

assaulted her. She said the man was in his fifties and he was walking a

white dog. Police appealed for witnesses and started an

investigation. But in August it was no stock a day who found herself

charged over the matter. Police accuse her of wasting their time

and perverting the course of justice. In court today the 24-

year-old repeatedly shook her head as the charges were read out. And

as a police constable said he could connect those accused to that

charges. But a defence Alastair said her client denied the charges

and had given a full account to the pleas of what had happened. The

solicitor also said that she regards herself as a victim of rape.

The police constable said there were discrepancies in the several

accounts the woman had given. And our request for anonymity was

denied and she was released on bail to appear again on 23rd October.

You may have done the run already this evening taking your child to

their extra transferred test tuition. Thousands of parents are

doing the same as children prepare for the entrance tests in November.

It has become something of an industry but not one that parents

are proud. It is a taboo subject at the school gates.

It is coming up to four o'clock and after a day spent in school, these

children have come to this centre for an extra 80 minutes' tuition

for the transfer test. Their parents pay �26 as session. The due

to concentrate on English and maths and familiarising the children with

the format of the unofficial Tests. The syllabus the teachers are

teaching are on the test, so some of the children need an extra

explanation to help them through that. That is what we help with.

Also the technique for the test is vital to get through this test.

That is one of the main reasons that the children would come to the

centre. A month his pupils is this boy. He will be doing both Tests,

that is five papers and all. His mother says he needed help with his

maths and she wanted to give them the best chance to get into a

grammar. You hear of other women who have put themselves through

tutoring before the exams. I felt that I had to help him to raise his

marks up and to give them the best opportunity of having this tuition

to do well in exams. All more also -- almost all cost... When Martin

McGuinness announced he was scrapping the 11-plus, it was

supposed to be the end of test based selection. Instead, we have

seen him in an industry grow up around the transfer and the

internet is the place where people sell everything, from past papers

to on lines of resources to tuition. We decide to carry out a pall of

the transfer provided around Northern Ireland. It is about

firms' advertising on the internet. It is a tax transaction that the

taxman does not hear about. A former teacher has been offering

tuition for 22 years. He charges �16 per person and takes the

children in groups. In neighbouring counties, a teacher does not agree

with tuition. He has four primary children on his books. He has been

doing for her a few years and charges �18 a head. He is qualified

but says some parents will collar A couple from England who have just

arrived in Fermanagh, plan to offer tuition there. They have just

started to advertise. Up in Derry, they are less keen to talk about

this. We found a qualified teacher. She has just one child, and says

she has seen fewer children looking for tuition. She charges �20 per

hour. In Antrim, a qualified teacher with 12 years' experience

has around seven children coming to her, some twice a week. She charges

�20 per hour and gets annoyed with tutors to guarantee success.

There is no register or regulation of those offering tuition. Much is

done by word of mouth or roadside advertising like this. That means

anyone can offer themselves. We found an A-level student offering

due to turn students for �10 per hour. They have had some interest.

This man is a spokesman for grammar schools that Randy test. He knows

the tuition takes place and says he would prefer if it did not.

We see too much of an overload. With the best motives, but learning

itself becomes a chore and they get turned off at a time when we should

be trying to encourage them. Many parents are still determined to

push for a grammar school education for their children, so while the

entrance test is there, two Russian will be for part of the unregulated

system. -- tuition. The employment and learning

minister Steven Farrer has dealt a body blow for the hopes of higher

education places in Derry. The minister was at the Magee campus

today to deliver the bad news in person. He planned extra 2,000

places will now be cut to a few hundred. The department says that

financial pressures are to blame. Academics believe that the freeze

on fees here led to this withdrawals. The college staff say

that while they are deeply disappointed, their campaign is not

over and they aim to keep this on the political agenda. I spoke to a

professor earlier. I am extremely disappointed by this

news. On one hand, I think the minister should be congratulated in

the sense that for the first time there is recognition that we need

to increase the number of undergraduate places available in

Northern Ireland, but the number of places being talked about are

extremely limited and we are very disappointed. You were hoping for

2,000 places and this will not happen. That is correct. The

minister says he only has enough money to fund several hundred

places. That is extremely disappointing for us but we are

pushing the minister to ensure that whatever places are on the table,

they come to the Magee campus because we are the only institution

with a pit on the table. Higher education must be a priority for

this executive. If we are to rebuild the economy in Northern

Ireland, higher education must be a priority. Many students will now be

choosing to go to university in Northern Ireland rather than

elsewhere, while the tuition fees are frozen. How much of a blow will

thus be to them? There is already huge pressure on

places in Northern Ireland. This will increase as students who would

otherwise have less Northern Ireland will decide to stay because

of the law to Russian fees. We will see an increase in competition for

places. This campaign is not over. We will work with our partners to

ensure that the Magee campus plan does not go off the political

agenda. The Irish rugby coach Declan Kidney

has unveiled his team for the weekend's World Cup match.

One player he was unable to select for this crunch game against

Australia was Gerry Flannery. He has picked up an injury in training.

After a disappointing performance in the opening game against the USA,

Declan Kidney has made it four changes. Stephen Ferris, Tom Court

and Rory best retain their places, with Andrew Trimble on the bed. --

to the bench. Declan Kidney has refreshed the side. He is confident

that the underperforming side can deliver.

The lads who have been left off are very unlucky to have been left off.

I have picked these lads because I think they can play well. I believe

they can give us the result we want. A Ireland have beaten Australia

just twice in the past 10 attempts and never in the World Cup but the

Irish captain is confident of an upset.

As a team, you back yourself on the achievements you have. The medals

you have in your pocket. Fresh in their minds will be their victory

in the Tri Nations. We feel that on our day, we are capable of beating

anyone, we just have to make sure that performance is up there with

our best, to make sure that we do not allow the Australians to play

and we impose ourselves on them. A win for Ireland is not crucial

this Saturday but it would be an important indicator of their World

Cup ambitions. Over the past few years, we have

followed the progress of this young racing driver, Wayne Boyd. Now aged

20, he is bidding to become an IndyCar Driver. That is the US

equivalent of Formula One. He has just returned home after another

winning performance at the Baltimore Grand Prix.

Wayne Boyd was extremely lucky to escape unharmed after this dramatic

crash. Since, he has won twice in America this year. I am on a

programme, and hopefully I will be there next year. It is a stepping

ladder up their CVs. When he is not where it -- not racing cars, he

works selling parts and working on carts. Formula One is still his

dream but America offers the more realistic career progression.

I think Indy car is more bearable. It is so difficult to get into a

Formula One. Indy car, it is the F one of America, but I really do

prefer it out there. It is a more relaxed lifestyle and the fans are

great out there as well. He intends to step closer to

IndyCar this coming season. At just 20, he is still on track to make it

to the top of the sport. He is pretty good that the karting

as well. Robin Mackle Roy could mess next year's Irish open because

it clap -- clashes with a big event in the United States. Because of a

new proposed sponsor for the Irish Open, the event could move from its

normal slot, meaning that a La Route De Carteret alloy could then

play. It is two wins out of two for

Northern Ireland in the cricket. Technical difficulties prevented us

a lot of dry weather. The cloud could be low enough to bring the

odd patch of mist. But generally it is dried. A lot of cloud, parts of

County Antrim and County Down where daylight suddenly breeze. I am not

saying there will not be the odd bright spell in the West but

probably more cloud. Tomorrow will be mostly dry here as well. If you

have to do anything outside, tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow night,

the cloud will gather again bringing spells of rain. By Friday,

it is not looking good. Even when that clears, bright spells and

blustery showers fall on Saturday and Sunday looks like the better
