Good evening. This is BBC Newsline with Noel Thompson and Donna | :00:17. | :00:27.
:00:27. | :00:29. | ||
Traynor. The headlines this Monday evening. | :00:29. | :00:32.
The Belfast Health Trust is investigating the death of the | :00:32. | :00:35.
second patient on a trolley in accident and emergency. | :00:35. | :00:37.
The parents calling for this priest to be suspended over indecent | :00:37. | :00:39.
photos. Why the new Ulster Unionist leader | :00:39. | :00:42.
wants to find out what it's like to live in a deprived area. | :00:42. | :00:44.
Titanic take off - the new businesses that have taken up | :00:44. | :00:49.
residence in the regenerated docks area. | :00:49. | :00:54.
A major sporting week begins with the return of a familiar Cup to | :00:54. | :00:57.
Crossmaglen. And over the next couple of days | :00:58. | :01:00.
there'll be a touch of winter in our weather - it all starts | :01:00. | :01:10.
:01:10. | :01:11. | ||
tomorrow morning, join me later. The BBC understands that the | :01:11. | :01:14.
Belfast Health Trust is investigating the death of the | :01:14. | :01:18.
second patient in the Royal Victoria Hospital. The Trust this | :01:18. | :01:23.
afternoon by the family of the man who died at accident and emergency | :01:23. | :01:25.
last month and said that they accepted that something went | :01:25. | :01:32.
terribly wrong for. The family met representatives of | :01:32. | :01:36.
the Belfast Health Trust of the city hospital including the medical | :01:36. | :01:39.
director of Dr Tony Stephens. It was the first face-to-face meeting | :01:40. | :01:44.
they had had both health chiefs and there were many questions on the | :01:44. | :01:48.
agenda including why a post mortem was not conducted, why medical | :01:48. | :01:54.
notes were not updated, was the department under staffed and one | :01:54. | :02:00.
contact details were lost and the PSNI called to notified a patient's | :02:00. | :02:04.
partner. And where there was contact -- where there was | :02:04. | :02:09.
confusion over the time of death. The BBC also understands the | :02:09. | :02:13.
investigation will include the death of a female patient in | :02:13. | :02:18.
January. The team will establish what happened leading up to the | :02:18. | :02:21.
death of each patient, how care was delivered at house staff | :02:21. | :02:26.
communicated with each other. The family of the dead man say they are | :02:26. | :02:32.
not entirely happy with the investigation. Their local MLA is | :02:32. | :02:38.
speaking on their behalf. independent inquiry is made up from | :02:38. | :02:43.
people from different health Trusts and they tend to know each other. | :02:44. | :02:49.
But I was assured that this would in no way influenced the inquiry | :02:49. | :02:52.
and the team had in fact been chosen for their independent | :02:52. | :02:57.
thinking. The Belfast Health Trust has agreed to the family's request | :02:57. | :03:01.
to let them meet some of the medical staff including the nurses | :03:01. | :03:05.
who were working in the excellent and emergency department the like | :03:05. | :03:10.
their father died. He lay on a trolley for almost 24 hours whilst | :03:10. | :03:14.
attempts were made to find him a bed. It will be an emotional | :03:14. | :03:18.
occasion for the family but I can assure them that the family are | :03:18. | :03:24.
entirely genuine. They do not want to criticise them, they want to | :03:24. | :03:30.
praise them? Absolutely. The what the system changed. According to | :03:30. | :03:35.
the family it is a tragedy that it took the death of their father to | :03:35. | :03:39.
prompt corrections to the ongoing crisis in accident and emergency. | :03:39. | :03:44.
They say the problems must be fixed and soon or their father's death | :03:44. | :03:48.
would have been in vain. Parents who were inadvertently | :03:48. | :03:51.
shown pornographic images by a priest are calling for him to be | :03:51. | :03:56.
suspended. It happened during a meeting in a primary school in | :03:56. | :03:58.
Pomeroy about the childrens' First Communion - an 8-year-old boy was | :03:58. | :04:08.
:04:08. | :04:11. | ||
also present. What happened here last week is now | :04:11. | :04:15.
the subject of a church investigation. Parents claim that | :04:16. | :04:19.
during a presentation by the parish priest, around 16 explicit images | :04:19. | :04:24.
of men were shown on the screen. They said when the images appeared, | :04:24. | :04:29.
the priest became flustered and quickly left the room. Father | :04:29. | :04:32.
Martin McVeigh said he was shocked at the sexual images and claimed | :04:32. | :04:36.
that others had been using the memory stick which there were | :04:36. | :04:40.
stored on. On the did not serve Mass on Sunday, he has not been | :04:40. | :04:44.
told to step aside from his duties. In a statement the head of the | :04:44. | :04:48.
Catholic Church in Ireland said that Father Martin McVeigh claimed | :04:48. | :04:51.
he had no knowledge of the offending imagery. Sean Brady said | :04:51. | :04:55.
the police were contacted and they said no crime had been committed. | :04:55. | :05:00.
He added that father Martian Myddfai is co-operating with the | :05:00. | :05:04.
investigation by the Church. Parents are due to meet again this | :05:04. | :05:10.
week amid uncertainty over the parish priest's position as Easter | :05:10. | :05:15.
approaches. The new Ulster Unionist leader Mike | :05:15. | :05:19.
Nesbitt has begun to make arrangements to stay with a family | :05:19. | :05:25.
in a deprived area to experience their day-to-day problems. Mr Les | :05:25. | :05:31.
but won the leadership at the weekend. Here is our political | :05:31. | :05:37.
editor. Less than 24 hours after the Ulster Unionists adopted him as | :05:37. | :05:41.
their new leader, Mike Nesbitt was putting himself up for a different | :05:41. | :05:45.
kind of adoption - this time he was looking not for political home but | :05:45. | :05:53.
a real home. What I need to do is go and find a family to stay with | :05:53. | :05:58.
for 24 hours, in an area of social deprivation. The new leader's | :05:58. | :06:02.
opponents immediately accused him of pulling a stamped. I think | :06:02. | :06:08.
everyone has been struck by the crassness and condescension of him | :06:08. | :06:13.
suggesting that 24 hours would give him any grasp of what the problems | :06:13. | :06:17.
would be up that people are going through. In Newtownards were my | :06:17. | :06:27.
:06:27. | :06:28. | ||
best bit is a local MLA, opinions were divided. It is a good idea. | :06:28. | :06:36.
think it is a disgrace. There's no one impoverished nowadays. Among | :06:36. | :06:43.
them did Donald could not be described as a fan for a start he | :06:43. | :06:47.
has a cheek because he has not come near this estate. Despite that the | :06:47. | :06:50.
care worker will welcome the new media as a guest in her home | :06:50. | :06:55.
although he might be taken aback by how she intends to greet him. | :06:55. | :07:00.
your finger out and do something, it is about time something was done | :07:00. | :07:05.
before it hits rock bottom. And it is heading that way if something is | :07:05. | :07:11.
not done for our area. On the BBC airwaves Mike Nesbitt | :07:11. | :07:16.
was getting some equally blunt messages. This morning I had to | :07:16. | :07:21.
choose between buying milk and paying for dinner money for my | :07:21. | :07:26.
daughter. On Talkback he was coming down with invitations, making the | :07:26. | :07:34.
programme feel a bit like a political edition of Blind Date. | :07:34. | :07:40.
Do you want to spend time with me, you can choose the day. Let us | :07:40. | :07:49.
figure it out. Mike Nesbitt is not the first | :07:49. | :07:53.
politician to try to get a feel for how the other half lives. The | :07:53. | :07:56.
former Conservative minister Michael Portillo swap lives with | :07:56. | :08:01.
the single mother for a television programme almost a decade ago. | :08:01. | :08:05.
Unlike Michael Portillo's experiment, like the mess that is | :08:05. | :08:09.
making it clear he does not want his 24 hour experience of | :08:09. | :08:14.
deprivation to be recorded on camera. | :08:14. | :08:20.
There has been a lot of reaction to that plant on a Facebook site. | :08:20. | :08:30.
:08:30. | :08:41. | ||
Still to come on the programme. How successful was it? The latest from | :08:41. | :08:46.
renewed Titanic Belfast visitors' centre. And victory for Crossmaglen | :08:47. | :08:56.
:08:57. | :08:57. | ||
again in the All Ireland final. Many small rural schools are facing | :08:57. | :09:02.
the axe but could cross-border partnerships offer a way of keeping | :09:02. | :09:06.
some of them open? The Department of Education of Belfast and Dublin | :09:06. | :09:10.
are to seek the opinions of those living around the border to see if | :09:10. | :09:14.
they would like more Corporation. One school is St Mary's near | :09:14. | :09:24.
:09:24. | :09:24. | ||
Belleek. With just 132 pupils, at St Mary's | :09:24. | :09:28.
is one of the smallest secondary schools in Northern Ireland. Just a | :09:28. | :09:34.
few miles from the Donegal border. A review carried out by the | :09:34. | :09:37.
Commission on Catholic education has recommended that the school be | :09:37. | :09:42.
closed. They say it is just too few pupils, does not teaching of | :09:42. | :09:46.
subjects and is financially unsustainable. The three-month | :09:46. | :09:49.
consultation on the closure has begun today. If it closes, pupils | :09:49. | :09:53.
would have to be bused more than 20 miles away to a school in | :09:53. | :09:58.
Enniskillen. We would like the opportunity not to lose the heart | :09:58. | :10:02.
of our community and the children themselves. The current proposal | :10:02. | :10:09.
would mean children travelling for in excess of an hour in the morning | :10:09. | :10:12.
and in the evening. We feel there must be a better way. Could the | :10:12. | :10:17.
answer to the problems lie just down the road across the border? | :10:17. | :10:22.
One of the schools that St Mary's hopes to link with his in Bonn | :10:22. | :10:26.
Doran. It was closed today for Easter and different school | :10:26. | :10:28.
holidays are just one of the practical barriers that have to be | :10:28. | :10:34.
overcome. There are challenges with two different systems. Of and to us | :10:34. | :10:44.
:10:44. | :10:47. | ||
looking at the age that children's new terms start of. A group | :10:47. | :10:51.
fighting to keep the school open is made up of both Catholic and | :10:51. | :10:54.
Protestant parents. And the cross- border links are being supported by | :10:55. | :11:00.
both communities. We want this to be a long-term solution and I think | :11:00. | :11:08.
cross-border is the way to go. Donegal is our natural hinterland. | :11:08. | :11:13.
There is already a North South Corporation in health and | :11:13. | :11:18.
university education. The education minister says if there is demand, | :11:18. | :11:22.
new cross-border arrangements for schools could be in place by | :11:22. | :11:28.
September of next year. Renewed Titanic visitor attractions | :11:28. | :11:33.
sold out of tickets today according to the operators. More than 11,000 | :11:33. | :11:37.
people have toured the complex in the past three days. It opened at | :11:37. | :11:42.
midday on Saturday to the sound of trumpets. But once they got inside, | :11:42. | :11:49.
what did the visitors think? It was a bright beginning fought a | :11:49. | :11:55.
glimmering 77 million project. The public opening was a fanfare | :11:55. | :12:02.
occasion. We did it, up on time and on budget! I am delighted. | :12:02. | :12:08.
guest of honour was Cyril Quigley, now aged 105, but who as a four- | :12:08. | :12:13.
year-old boy I saw the Titanic launched in 1911. The crowds to | :12:13. | :12:18.
watch the ceremony on Saturday were soon queuing up for admission. | :12:18. | :12:23.
architecture is amazing and the excitement round here is one of in | :12:23. | :12:28.
a lifetime. I'm glad that they put it as close as they could to the | :12:29. | :12:34.
doctor. It has lifted Belfast into a new place because we had so many | :12:34. | :12:40.
years of bad press. Just bringing back the importance of it all, the | :12:40. | :12:48.
people who died. And it is also bringing tourism to the area as | :12:48. | :12:54.
well which we desperately need. Titanic Belfast needs to attract | :12:54. | :12:58.
around 300,000 visitors annually simply to break even. If it gets | :12:58. | :13:03.
those kinds of numbers, it will rank amongst the most popular of | :13:03. | :13:07.
Northern Ireland's tourist attractions. A charity event with | :13:07. | :13:12.
participants in a shipyard style caps swell the visitor numbers on | :13:12. | :13:17.
Sunday but many of the attractions customers came from further afield | :13:17. | :13:22.
and they liked what they find on. It was amazing when you went | :13:22. | :13:25.
through to the part where they found the bodies and wear | :13:25. | :13:31.
identifying them, how silent everyone was and the end of the of | :13:31. | :13:33.
the people who were there with the people who had been lost was | :13:34. | :13:40.
fantastic. It is amazing, I'm crazy about the Titanic story. I was | :13:40. | :13:48.
moved by it when I was a child. It is my first time coming to Belfast | :13:48. | :13:54.
and I'm so lucky. Titanic Belfast said that today was a sell-out of | :13:54. | :13:59.
all 5500 tickets and that 60% of those tickets sold were two people | :13:59. | :14:06.
from outside of Northern Ireland. Well when the tetanic liner was | :14:06. | :14:10.
launched 100 years ago, Belfast was known across the world as an | :14:10. | :14:14.
industrial powerhouse. There had the largest shipyard, the largest | :14:15. | :14:20.
roadworks and was a major exporter of linen and tobacco products. | :14:20. | :14:23.
Those old industries may be gone but in their place you ones are | :14:23. | :14:27.
emerging. Our Business Editor reports on the nude Titanic economy | :14:27. | :14:34.
for a top it is a while since I played this game but for these guys, | :14:34. | :14:38.
this is not play time but work. A century gold the men of working | :14:38. | :14:42.
here but the Titanic but today they are building augmented reality | :14:42. | :14:48.
tours. The Northern Ireland science park sits on a 25 acre site within | :14:48. | :14:52.
the Titanic Quarter and his home to a mixture of 100 high-tech | :14:52. | :14:58.
companies, some large but many small who want to be bigger one day. | :14:58. | :15:00.
They seek an evolution from shipbuilding to software | :15:00. | :15:08.
development. The Titanic was amazing technology in its day. The | :15:08. | :15:14.
technology behind it was fantastic. And that entrepreneurial and | :15:14. | :15:18.
engineering Jean lives on. At a time when we built the biggest | :15:18. | :15:24.
ships in the world and exported things, the exports going out of | :15:24. | :15:29.
the science park are amazing. Everything goes out over the Nat | :15:29. | :15:38.
work. Nearby Beales Harland and Wolf Hall is now a movie studio. | :15:39. | :15:44.
This is big money for the Northern Ireland economy. It injects a huge | :15:44. | :15:54.
:15:54. | :15:55. | ||
level of cash into the economy very quickly. That is a lot of money at | :15:55. | :16:00.
any time. It is as substantial amount of money at the heart of a | :16:00. | :16:09.
at the same show. -- of where recession. | :16:09. | :16:13.
We have Lydia production and creativity causes, also a fashion | :16:13. | :16:21.
courses on offer at the Belfast Metropolitan College. The pump | :16:21. | :16:25.
house here was absolutely state of the art in its day. It could empty | :16:25. | :16:30.
the Thomson Dhokia in record time. And these would win it marvels of | :16:30. | :16:33.
engineering build with massive investment by the Belfast Harbour | :16:33. | :16:37.
Commissioners to encourage the latest in shipbuilding. The harbour | :16:38. | :16:40.
commissioners today are making similar investments in order to | :16:40. | :16:44.
promote the new technologies of the 21st century. And here is their | :16:45. | :16:51.
latest project - on an even bigger scale. This is the largest ever | :16:51. | :16:56.
investment by the Belfast Harbour Commissioners, the development of a | :16:56. | :17:02.
leak -- a logistics centre for offshore wind farms. That is one of | :17:02. | :17:12.
:17:12. | :17:13. | ||
the future emerging sectors. It is a 100 billion investment and this | :17:13. | :17:18.
is our slice of the it. It seems that the new Titanic economy of | :17:18. | :17:22.
Belfast is once again putting the city at the forefront of technology | :17:22. | :17:28.
and innovation. Well we have created a special | :17:28. | :17:35.
website focusing on all things Titanic. That is on the screen now. | :17:35. | :17:42.
We're also on Twitter. In a moment we visit if a man as | :17:43. | :17:47.
soccer club celebrating as track success. But first rare in Armagh | :17:47. | :17:53.
up with a group of footballers well used to win in. | :17:53. | :17:58.
Well the fans are behind me. Crossmaglen Rangers, All Ireland | :17:58. | :18:03.
football club champions for the 6th time in the club's history. There | :18:03. | :18:07.
used to success in this part of the world. The goalkeeper and team | :18:07. | :18:13.
captain at are with me now. You are just getting used to this! I would | :18:13. | :18:23.
:18:23. | :18:27. | ||
know of say we're used to it but it is a good feeling. You now have six | :18:27. | :18:34.
All Ireland club man dolls. It is a great feeling. We are fortunate to | :18:34. | :18:41.
be involved with it. But this probably eclipses everything we | :18:41. | :18:46.
have done so far. It has been at a fantastic campaign and we are | :18:46. | :18:51.
ecstatic. We can look at the key moments of the win and the | :18:51. | :18:59.
celebrations. The scoreline told us it was a one-sided. | :18:59. | :19:04.
Yes but a lot of effort went into the game. From the very first | :19:04. | :19:10.
whistle and lot of effort went into getting us to that stage. It was | :19:10. | :19:20.
:19:20. | :19:21. | ||
great teamwork and movement. And a nice touch for you to lift the cup | :19:21. | :19:29.
as well. And a nice touch in Crossmaglen yesterday. Antrim | :19:29. | :19:34.
hurling join Duke for the celebrations? | :19:34. | :19:42.
Yes they had a couple of drinks with us and the crack was mighty. | :19:42. | :19:48.
It was brilliant. High times for football and hurling in Ulster | :19:48. | :19:53.
right now. We will stay here for the rest of the sport in | :19:53. | :19:56.
Crossmaglen receiving full of Crusaders are through to the semi- | :19:56. | :20:04.
finals of the JJB Sports Irish Cup. This goal from David Rennie gave | :20:04. | :20:08.
Crusaders 01 - nil win over Dungannon Swifts. It will be their | :20:08. | :20:13.
third cup final appearance in four years. But even bigger soccer | :20:13. | :20:17.
celebrations in County Fermanagh as Ballinamallard United are into the | :20:17. | :20:24.
top division, the Carling Premiership, for the first time | :20:24. | :20:31.
ever. This was the proudest day in the | :20:31. | :20:36.
short history of Ballinamallard United. I always thought it was | :20:36. | :20:40.
possible but probable, that was a different question altogether. But | :20:40. | :20:48.
we have answered that now. After defeating Bangor 3 - 2, | :20:48. | :20:52.
second placed Newry City lost to Limavady Utd insuring that aside | :20:52. | :20:55.
from County Fermanagh would be represented in the top flight of | :20:55. | :21:04.
local football for the first time. Andy Little scored last week in | :21:04. | :21:08.
Scottish League, Kyle Lafferty, guys have left Fermanagh and this | :21:08. | :21:11.
is now up the opportunity for Fermanagh to showcase the talent | :21:11. | :21:16.
that is in the county of the moment. It is a big area for soccer and a | :21:16. | :21:21.
great opportunity. Having done the job on the pitch, Ballinamallard's | :21:22. | :21:28.
next Challenge is to ensure that the part is ready to welcome the | :21:29. | :21:34.
big boys next season. Exciting times ahead. And here is a | :21:34. | :21:38.
side that no Ulster rugby supporter wanted to see - Stephen Ferris When | :21:38. | :21:45.
the off during the team's win in the pro 12 at the weekend. A scan | :21:45. | :21:52.
today has revealed that he has suffered serious ankle and ligament | :21:52. | :21:57.
damage and is rated as doubtful for the big game on Sunday when Ulster | :21:57. | :22:02.
take on Munster in the Heineken Cup quarter-final. Undoubtedly they | :22:02. | :22:06.
will be tougher opposition than the Italian us. It will certainly be a | :22:06. | :22:11.
different game in Munster, there's no doubt about that. We go down | :22:11. | :22:14.
their positive and full of confidence, knowing we have put a | :22:14. | :22:21.
good run together. We will have to be tighter in certain areas. Maybe | :22:21. | :22:26.
at times our defence looked a bit suspect. If we will not be able to | :22:26. | :22:30.
get away with those things next week. Well next a look at some of | :22:30. | :22:35.
the key sporting performances elsewhere, starting with a lucky | :22:35. | :22:40.
escape for one of our motor cyclists. This is the on-board | :22:40. | :22:45.
camera on the bike of Jonathan Rea going overboard during qualifying | :22:45. | :22:53.
for the World Superbike. Somehow the rider walked away from his | :22:53. | :22:57.
accident without serious injury. But he came close to coming off | :22:57. | :23:04.
again during racing proper as he touched bikes with Eugene Laverty. | :23:04. | :23:10.
There was a top-three finish for another competitor on two wheels - | :23:10. | :23:14.
Amy mother-son that dapper and fending qualification for London | :23:14. | :23:24.

:23:36. | :23:40. | ||
Coleraine ice skater Jenner finished 14th overall in France. | :23:40. | :23:43.
And the Belfast Giants cruised into the play-off finals next week after | :23:44. | :23:53.

it hammering Dundee stars. A reminder also that we have a | :23:55. | :23:59.
major we are of golf for you to look forward to. | :24:00. | :24:04.
It is the hottest ticket in town. To one of the most exclusive | :24:04. | :24:09.

will be reporting from the US Masters in a cluster with special | :24:14. | :24:18.
interviews with Northern Ireland's three representatives. Two of them | :24:18. | :24:23.

blew his final round four-shot lead. Darren Clarke returns as the Open | :24:32. | :24:35.
champion but there is a doubt as to whether he can take his place in | :24:35. | :24:41.
the field after withdrawing from a tournament in Houston due to injury. | :24:41. | :24:46.
And Graeme McDowell, showing a real return to his US Open winning form | :24:46. | :24:52.
recently, finishing second to Tiger Woods at an event in Florida. Mayor | :24:52. | :24:56.
set for a thrilling tournament so join me all this week from the | :24:56. | :25:01.

a few days yet here in Crossmaglen. Now a look at the weather forecast. | :25:20. | :25:25.
It is hard to believe that the temperature at last Tuesday was 21 | :25:25. | :25:34.
of but in some places tomorrow we will struggle to reach four degrees. | :25:35. | :25:39.
It is quite at the moment, still a couple of showers lingering. But | :25:39. | :25:46.
later tonight we have this area of rain moving in. So it will get | :25:46. | :25:49.
wetter and also colder. Temperatures dropping to two or | :25:49. | :25:58.
three degrees. Then the rain will turn it moored to sleet and even | :25:58. | :26:08.
:26:08. | :26:08. | ||
possibly a bit of snow tomorrow morning. It is really only across | :26:08. | :26:16.
the hills where we would expect any snow. And the wind will be cold, a | :26:16. | :26:23.
cold north easterly wind. And eventually it turns dry air through | :26:23. | :26:29.
the afternoon. Probably a little sunshine before the day is out but | :26:29. | :26:36.
temperatures of just five or six degrees. A cold and frosty night to | :26:36. | :26:41. |
