Good evening. The headlines on BBC Newsline. A bomb close to a police | :00:21. | :00:25.
officer's home in Omagh - it's described as crude but viable. A | :00:26. | :00:29.
burned-out car in South Armagh - a possible link to the murder of a | :00:29. | :00:33.
Garda detective. Not in Northern Ireland - nationalists block a new | :00:33. | :00:39.
agency labelled the British FBI. The deaths of three family members | :00:39. | :00:45.
in a slurry pit - a sister gives evidence at the inquest. Also on | :00:45. | :00:53.
the programme tonight. A triumphant homecoming - Liam Neeson receives | :00:53. | :00:56.
the freedom of Ballymena. Cliftonville's footballers win | :00:56. | :01:02.
their first trophy of the season - but how many more to come? And a | :01:02. | :01:05.
bit milder through the next 24 hours but there's more wet and | :01:05. | :01:15.
:01:15. | :01:18. | ||
Detectives are still trying to establish who left a pipebomb close | :01:18. | :01:23.
to the home of a police officer in Omagh on Friday. It's thought | :01:23. | :01:26.
dissident republicans are just one of their lines of inquiry. The bomb | :01:26. | :01:28.
was discovered after the officer, who saw two people acting | :01:28. | :01:33.
suspiciously, fired a shot at his house on Kevlin Road. Julian Fowler | :01:33. | :01:39.
reports from Omagh. A quiet residential area of Omagh on a wet | :01:39. | :01:47.
Monday morning. Little appeared out of the ordinary today. But the | :01:47. | :01:50.
events of the weekend have sent shockwaves through this community. | :01:50. | :01:53.
On Friday night a police officer fired shots during an incident at | :01:53. | :01:56.
his home. It has been reported that the officer saw two men acting | :01:56. | :01:59.
suspiciously at the back of his house. During follow-up searches on | :01:59. | :02:02.
Saturday a pipebomb, described by the police as a crude viable | :02:02. | :02:08.
explosive device, was found close to the house. Neighbours were | :02:08. | :02:15.
evacuated while it was made safe. It is understood the officer was no | :02:16. | :02:20.
longer living in the house but had returned to carry out repairs. That | :02:20. | :02:26.
has led to concerns that he was being specifically targeted. I was | :02:26. | :02:30.
considering perhaps returning to that house and the situation was he | :02:30. | :02:36.
was in that house in September and somebody was targeting him. | :02:36. | :02:38.
police have not released any details about what happened. But | :02:38. | :02:41.
they have appealed for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the | :02:41. | :02:44.
Kevlin Road area between 8:00pm and midnight on Friday night to contact | :02:44. | :02:47.
them. It is understood detectives are keeping an open mind about who | :02:47. | :02:52.
may have been responsible. Dissident republicans are thought | :02:52. | :02:58.
to be just one of a number of lines of inquiry. Gardai suspect a cross- | :02:58. | :03:00.
border gang was involved in killing Detective Adrian Donohoe in County | :03:00. | :03:05.
Louth on Friday. A burnt-out car which they may have used is being | :03:06. | :03:09.
examined near Keady in South Armagh. Detective Donohoe was shot in the | :03:09. | :03:12.
head as he and a colleague waited to escort a cash delivery from a | :03:12. | :03:15.
Credit Union at Bellurgan near Dundalk. Gordon Adair has the | :03:15. | :03:25.
:03:25. | :03:27. | ||
latest on the murder investigation. Is this remote forest were a gang | :03:27. | :03:30.
of killers fled to on Friday evening? The police think so and | :03:31. | :03:37.
that this was the getaway car. It is too early to say just who made | :03:37. | :03:45.
up this kind. Idea out on to prejudge but this is an act by a | :03:45. | :03:51.
group of criminal terrorists flying the tricolour for convenience or is | :03:51. | :03:55.
this a group of organised or disorganised criminals hell-bent on | :03:55. | :04:01.
financial gain. Thus more credit union is probably something like | :04:01. | :04:05.
half a mile further down this road and I have just driven from it and | :04:05. | :04:09.
on either side of the road you can see whether hedges had been pulled | :04:09. | :04:14.
out by Garda search teams hunting for clues. We know a little more | :04:14. | :04:21.
about what happened on Friday night. It seems detective will Donna Hay | :04:21. | :04:26.
and his colleague were collecting cash. When they arrived at the | :04:26. | :04:30.
Credit Union, the answer to the car-park was blocked by a vehicle. | :04:30. | :04:33.
Detective Donoghoe got out to see what was happening and without | :04:33. | :04:38.
warning, was shot in the head. We know that the gang was at least | :04:38. | :04:43.
five strong and they were armed with a shotgun, had gone, hammers | :04:43. | :04:46.
and were masked and wearing tracksuits. It is understood the | :04:46. | :04:52.
gang escaped with something like 4000 Euro but left behind as much | :04:52. | :04:59.
as 40,000. Today, the detective, a member of his local GAA club, was | :04:59. | :05:04.
hailed as a hero who died protecting neighbours. He could not | :05:04. | :05:10.
even describe it. It has been like this since the news broke on Friday. | :05:10. | :05:15.
It is just... There are no worse. There never will be. Adrian one | :05:15. | :05:20.
never be forgotten her. Trying to come to terms with it. You have | :05:20. | :05:24.
children that he coached and mentored and you're trying to tell | :05:24. | :05:30.
the child what is going on when you don't understand yourself. We will | :05:30. | :05:34.
remember him, we will have fond memories of him and what he did | :05:34. | :05:40.
with his precious time. The this evening, Gardai are expected to | :05:40. | :05:49.
interview his colleague and staff from the Credit Union. A new | :05:49. | :05:52.
policing agency described as the British FBI won't be able to | :05:52. | :05:56.
operate in Northern Ireland in the same way as the rest of the UK. | :05:56. | :05:59.
Sinn Fein and the SDLP have blocked a move to give the National Crime | :05:59. | :06:02.
Agency the powers to carry out police operations and recruit | :06:02. | :06:04.
agents. The Justice Minister says the move is a mistake. Vincent | :06:04. | :06:14.
Kearney reports. Dutch police prepared to carry out a raid on a | :06:14. | :06:21.
flat in Amsterdam. A man insiders British and local police are | :06:21. | :06:26.
working with the British serious organised crime agency. That agency | :06:26. | :06:31.
is being replaced with the more powerful new body, the National | :06:31. | :06:35.
Crime Agency. Described as the British equivalent of the FBI, it | :06:35. | :06:39.
will target gangs operating across local, national and international | :06:39. | :06:45.
borders. Its head, Keith Bristow, is seen here with the Home | :06:45. | :06:49.
Secretary. He will be directly accountable to her for the agency's | :06:49. | :06:54.
actions. Not to the Chief Constable of the PSNI, the Policing Board or | :06:54. | :06:59.
the Police Ombudsman. Many of the powers being given have been | :06:59. | :07:02.
devolved to the Assembly, so it has to agree to give Westminster | :07:02. | :07:07.
authority to exercise those powers. They include officers being given | :07:07. | :07:12.
the powers of a police constable in Northern Ireland. The authority to | :07:12. | :07:17.
carry out searches and make arrests and the ability to crew docked -- | :07:17. | :07:22.
conduct surveillance and recruit informers. The agency would also be | :07:22. | :07:26.
responsible for recovering assets from criminals. But Sinn Fein and | :07:26. | :07:30.
the SDLP have refused to support the move, which means the powers | :07:30. | :07:35.
will not be extended to Northern Ireland. Justice Minister David | :07:35. | :07:39.
Ford says he believes blocking the legislation is a mistake that could | :07:39. | :07:44.
have serious implications for the police. There is a real danger that | :07:44. | :07:48.
if this does not go ahead, there will be a significant cost to the | :07:48. | :07:52.
police and terms of time and finances and we will have an | :07:52. | :07:56.
inferior response to the serious crime that we face. Sinn Fein says | :07:56. | :08:00.
approving legislation would undermine devolved policing and | :08:00. | :08:04.
justice powers. But the DUP has accused the party of playing | :08:04. | :08:09.
politics with policing. National Crime Agency was set up to | :08:09. | :08:15.
do with pornography, sex crimes, the transit of prostitutes, the | :08:15. | :08:19.
transit of illegal fuel, to deal with international aid based | :08:19. | :08:23.
criminality. Why would anyone want to be on the wrong side of that | :08:23. | :08:29.
argument and stop Corporation across this island? It is right to | :08:29. | :08:33.
block this because we have gone through arduous my decisions to | :08:33. | :08:38.
have Policing and Justice powers devolved here. Westminster are | :08:38. | :08:43.
trying to take his powers away now, when what we want is to assert the | :08:43. | :08:48.
primacy of the Executive and assembly. The police are understood | :08:48. | :08:51.
to share the concerns of David Ford about the implications of this | :08:51. | :08:56.
decision. The PSNI has warned repeatedly that Northern Ireland is | :08:56. | :08:59.
increasingly being targeted by international crime gangs operating | :08:59. | :09:04.
on a global scale. Police co- operation with the NCA, they | :09:04. | :09:08.
believe, is essential to combat those activities. An inquest has | :09:08. | :09:11.
been told of the desperate attempts made to save three members of the | :09:11. | :09:13.
Spence family who died in an underground slurry pit last | :09:13. | :09:17.
September. The father and two sons were killed after one of them tried | :09:17. | :09:23.
to rescue a dog on their farm near Hillsborough. A sister of the | :09:23. | :09:25.
brothers has been giving evidence at today's hearing, as Claire | :09:25. | :09:29.
Savage reports. On that fateful Saturday evening on the 15th of | :09:29. | :09:31.
September, just after 6:00pm, farmer Noel Spence, who had been | :09:31. | :09:37.
spreading slurry that day, said a dog had gone into the slurry tank. | :09:37. | :09:40.
His eldest son, Graham, went down a ladder, through a manhole into the | :09:40. | :09:47.
pit, which was four foot deep in slurry. He briefly called for the | :09:47. | :09:50.
dog, an old Collie called Jill, and as he went back up the ladder, near | :09:50. | :09:59.
the top, he lost consciousness and fell into the tank. Nevin went in | :09:59. | :10:02.
after him and was also succumbed by the slurry fumes. Noel tried to | :10:02. | :10:07.
save his two sons but he same fate befell him. The emergency services | :10:07. | :10:10.
were called and friends, neighbours and family members, including | :10:10. | :10:16.
Noel's wife, Essie, all tried to get the men out of the tank. Emma | :10:16. | :10:20.
then went into the pit and managed to pull her father out. She then | :10:20. | :10:23.
went back in and passed out holding onto her brother, Graham. A | :10:23. | :10:27.
neighbour rescued her. Noel and Nevin were pronounced dead at the | :10:27. | :10:33.
scene and Graham at the hospital. After Emma's statement was read out, | :10:33. | :10:41.
the coroner, John Leckey, asked her how her health was. She said she | :10:41. | :10:45.
suffered pains but as her father used to say, they are far from her | :10:45. | :10:48.
heart. He asked her did she realise how dangerous her actions were. She | :10:48. | :10:51.
replied yes. But when it comes to the love of your family. Emma's mum, | :10:51. | :10:54.
Ismy, sister, Laura, and Graham's wife, Andrea, were there for the | :10:54. | :10:56.
hearing, which also heard evidence from members of the emergency | :10:57. | :11:02.
services. Mr Leckey commended all those who tried to help save the | :11:02. | :11:12.
:11:12. | :11:12. | ||
men for their bravery. The inquest is due to finish tomorrow. Lots | :11:12. | :11:19.
more to come on BBC Newsline this evening. A report from Ballymena... | :11:19. | :11:24.
The red carpet has been rolled out in Ballymena for the visit of the | :11:24. | :11:28.
town's most famous son. I will have all the details on this very | :11:28. | :11:34.
special award later. It will soon be a decade since disability | :11:34. | :11:40.
legislation came into force. But it appears it has failed to deliver | :11:40. | :11:43.
all that was hoped for. While new buildings must incorporate | :11:43. | :11:45.
wheelchair access, there are still many areas where people with a | :11:45. | :11:52.
disability face great difficulties. Mervyn Jess has met a man in County | :11:52. | :12:01.
Down trying to deal with something that for others is routine. Nobody | :12:01. | :12:06.
likes going out in the wind and rain. But Michael Hohnen has little | :12:06. | :12:11.
choice. He needs to lodge money in his local bank. But it's not that | :12:11. | :12:15.
simple. Michael suffers from motor neurone disease and needs a | :12:15. | :12:20.
wheelchair to get about. I would like to visit the branch today so I | :12:20. | :12:25.
would like them to blot out the disabled ramp. His dearest bank has | :12:25. | :12:33.
no prominent Major axis. 2pm will be fine. -- wheelchair access. | :12:33. | :12:39.
has switched to another bank which involves a 26 mile round trip to | :12:39. | :12:42.
for side and back. Today, after requesting the portable ramp be | :12:42. | :12:47.
placed outside, he went along to the Saintfield branch three miles | :12:47. | :12:52.
down the road but when he got there... No ramp. He had a similar | :12:52. | :12:57.
experience in Maghera recently sold for the second time, he has to do | :12:57. | :13:02.
is banking on the street. She just said they were not given the | :13:02. | :13:06.
message that I was coming and she was happy to get the ramp out but | :13:06. | :13:10.
it would be easier if I could write my details on the back and do the | :13:10. | :13:15.
lodgment. Disability laws will Marquand decade on the statute | :13:15. | :13:19.
books this year and there have been big improvements in certain areas | :13:19. | :13:23.
but there is lot of work to do. example, if somebody without a | :13:23. | :13:28.
disability did not think it was OK to come out the back door past the | :13:28. | :13:31.
bends, therefore you should not ask someone with a disability to do | :13:31. | :13:36.
that. Having experienced being fully active and being in a wager, | :13:36. | :13:41.
I am determined that someone should here of the difficulties that we | :13:41. | :13:45.
have. Danske Bank says it is committed to improving | :13:46. | :13:50.
accessibility of its premises, stating the vast majority of badges | :13:50. | :13:56.
and the head office or already compliant. However, the bank also | :13:56. | :13:59.
points out that the work required to make each location wheelchair | :13:59. | :14:02.
accessible varies from place to place and in some cases planning | :14:02. | :14:08.
permission is required. Some other news in brief now. Police in | :14:08. | :14:10.
Londonderry are investigating arson attacks on vans owned by the | :14:10. | :14:19.
property maintenance company Omega. Three vehicles were burnt outside | :14:19. | :14:21.
private homes after workers began removing graffiti from the Derry | :14:21. | :14:24.
walls overlooking the Bogside. Sinn Fein claim dissident republicans | :14:24. | :14:26.
threatened the workers. They've called on those responsible to | :14:26. | :14:31.
explain their actions to the wider community. The actor Stephen Rea | :14:31. | :14:34.
has carried the coffin of his ex- wife, Dolours Price, at her funeral | :14:34. | :14:39.
in West Belfast. Price, who was jailed for her part in the IRA | :14:39. | :14:44.
bombing of the Old Bailey in 1973, died on Wednesday. The police have | :14:44. | :14:47.
been involved in a legal process in the United States to seize | :14:47. | :14:53.
interviews she gave about her time in the IRA. Among the mourners | :14:53. | :14:59.
today was the prominent dissident republican Colin Duffy. Last week | :14:59. | :15:03.
on the programme we introduced you to David Haddock, who has had seven | :15:03. | :15:09.
operations cancelled in seven months. When he was a child, a | :15:09. | :15:12.
house fire which killed his mother and grandmother left the Belfast | :15:12. | :15:16.
man severely burned. He also has learning difficulties. There were | :15:16. | :15:20.
developments after his story was broadcast on Newsline. Marie-Louise | :15:20. | :15:30.
Connolly has the update. David Haddock's hospital bag has been | :15:30. | :15:34.
packed and ready to go since August. But since then his operation has | :15:34. | :15:37.
been cancelled seven times after more urgent cases were given his | :15:37. | :15:41.
hospital bed. But after the BBC broadcast his story on Thursday, | :15:41. | :15:51.
:15:51. | :15:53. | ||
the following day the operation was rescheduled for a week's time. | :15:53. | :16:03.
:16:03. | :16:06. | ||
was good news. I had a phone call Last week the family revealed | :16:06. | :16:08.
numerous letters from the Belfast Trust which scheduled operations | :16:08. | :16:17.
and were later cancelled. David has had a hard time. When he was three | :16:17. | :16:21.
years old he was involved in a house fire which killed his mum, | :16:21. | :16:23.
granny and left him severely burned and disfigured. As well as | :16:23. | :16:26.
reshaping his face, he's hoping the operation will ease some of his | :16:26. | :16:35.
pain. My nose and my lips and my cheek. While some members of the | :16:36. | :16:38.
family welcome the news, others remain sceptical that it will | :16:38. | :16:47.
actually go ahead on Thursday. though the hospital has reassured | :16:47. | :16:51.
may that this isn't going to happen because this was ordered by the | :16:51. | :16:55.
management, I still have the back of my mind that the call welcome. | :16:55. | :16:58.
While the Health Board says the number of operations cancelled last | :16:58. | :17:00.
year represents around 1.4% of all operations performed here, | :17:00. | :17:03.
according to David's family, no one, let alone someone with learning | :17:03. | :17:05.
difficulties, should have to experience that disappointment | :17:05. | :17:15.
:17:15. | :17:15. | ||
seven times. We'll let you know how David gets on. Now to Liam Neeson, | :17:15. | :17:19.
a man used to receiving international movie awards. Today | :17:19. | :17:24.
he received an unusual honour. I don't know if he has any sheep but | :17:24. | :17:29.
he's now allowed to drive a flock through his hometown of Ballymena. | :17:29. | :17:32.
It's one of the privileges bestowed on him today along with the freedom | :17:32. | :17:37.
of the town. And, as you would expect with a Hollywood star, there | :17:37. | :17:39.
was plenty of flash photography at the ceremony. Our reporter Natasha | :17:39. | :17:46.
Sayee was there for BBC Newsline. The centre is buzzing at the town's | :17:46. | :17:51.
most famous son celebrates his award. He says he is privileged and | :17:51. | :17:57.
will always be mad to 9.9% Ballymena. That comment will have | :17:57. | :18:00.
thrilled the hundreds of fans who gathered outside in the cold to | :18:01. | :18:06.
catch a glimpse of the actor known fondly as the big man. They queued | :18:06. | :18:11.
from early this morning to see that Ballymena boy turned superstar. | :18:11. | :18:17.
This is a chance to get to see him. We have been in Ballymena sense 8 | :18:17. | :18:23.
o'clock in the morning. We would have been here no match of the | :18:23. | :18:31.
weather. The Oscar nominee known best for his roles as Oscar show | :18:31. | :18:37.
under, Rob Roy and the action hero in the taken movies has inspired | :18:37. | :18:42.
actors around the world, not least those from his old school. | :18:42. | :18:46.
naturalism he brings to characters and high real he can get into the | :18:46. | :18:50.
character, you know the difference between him and the actor -- and | :18:51. | :18:57.
the character. He came from such a small town and to become so just -- | :18:57. | :19:03.
such a big star, that is amazing. A-day and celebration and the | :19:03. | :19:06.
stature as Liam Neeson received the accolade from his former bus at the | :19:06. | :19:11.
Guinness factory where he wants worked. Another wonderful day for | :19:11. | :19:15.
Ballymena, one that has focused the eyes of the world's media on us for | :19:15. | :19:21.
the right reasons. We applaud too, be where she continued success and | :19:21. | :19:26.
they will enjoy watching you grow from strength to strength and to | :19:26. | :19:31.
quote a very well-known actor, may the Force be with you. Now a proud | :19:31. | :19:35.
Freeman of the burner, he said he would use this to a bit to promote | :19:35. | :19:40.
his home town. I am aware of the work the area has been doing. | :19:40. | :19:45.
Coming out of the dark as, as we all have, and hopefully we have | :19:45. | :19:51.
left that behind us. These are new days, New Times, and I am just | :19:51. | :19:55.
privileged to receive this. In the past few weeks we have seen some | :19:55. | :20:00.
pretty negative issues -- images of Northern Ireland. How do you feel? | :20:01. | :20:06.
I have seen very little in the American press. The images I have | :20:06. | :20:11.
seen, there are always a few cowboys and it seems to be very | :20:11. | :20:20.
content. You know? The people of Northern Ireland's have voted 100% | :20:20. | :20:26.
for pace and it is going to happen. What does it mean for the new free | :20:26. | :20:32.
man to be born in Ballymena? In a very fundamental way, I have a work | :20:32. | :20:37.
ethic that I got from Ballymena. From the people, from my teachers. | :20:37. | :20:45.
PJ included. I am very proud of that. After accepting the award, | :20:45. | :20:47.
the movie-star was treated to a special dinner which he enjoyed | :20:47. | :20:52.
with local dignitaries, family and friends. As the celebrations wrap | :20:52. | :20:56.
up, it is at clear Way and Liam Neeson a return home again. He has | :20:56. | :21:01.
said he would like to go back to Belfast and tread the boards at the | :21:01. | :21:05.
Lyric theatre. But as for the notion of them playing the big man | :21:05. | :21:08.
in a movie? The actor has said he would think about it if he was | :21:08. | :21:13.
given the right script. You never know, he might pick up some tips | :21:13. | :21:23.
:21:23. | :21:29. | ||
during the dinner. At times so proud of its most famous son. -- a | :21:29. | :21:32.
town. Cliftonville are top of the table and League Cup winners. They | :21:32. | :21:35.
are certainly the team to beat in local football. Stephen's here with | :21:35. | :21:38.
the sport. One trophy in the cabinet already and they're still | :21:38. | :21:40.
in hunt for a couple more. Cliftonville's Cup winning | :21:40. | :21:42.
performance at the weekend impressed Liverpool manager Brendan | :21:42. | :21:45.
Rogers so much he sent a text message to Cliftonville boss Tommy | :21:45. | :21:48.
Breslin after the game. In the battle of North Belfast's and the | :21:48. | :21:51.
Irish League's two top sides, it was Cliftonville who ran out 4-0 | :21:51. | :21:54.
winners. Thomas Kane reports. It looks like Cliftonville players and | :21:54. | :22:00.
management will need to get used to celebrating success. Aside from the | :22:00. | :22:03.
County Antrim Shield, this was the club's first silverware since | :22:03. | :22:08.
lifting the League Cup nine years ago. But they are hungry for more | :22:08. | :22:15.
before the end of the season. Cup is a big one and we are in a | :22:15. | :22:18.
good position but we are taking nothing for granted and we will be | :22:18. | :22:22.
working hard for every game. And hopefully the results will go away | :22:22. | :22:29.
and we can keep on doing what we are doing. -- goal our Way. While | :22:29. | :22:31.
the weather conditions didn't exactly suit good football, both | :22:31. | :22:35.
sides created plenty of opportunities. And while Crusaders | :22:35. | :22:38.
couldn't find a way past Conor Devlin, Tommy Breslin's side were | :22:38. | :22:48.
:22:48. | :22:51. | ||
lethal in front of goal, playing The sending off of Paul Heatley | :22:51. | :22:54.
didn't help Crusaders' cause as their opponents put the gloss on an | :22:54. | :23:04.
:23:04. | :23:07. | ||
outstanding performance with two more goals. Tonight was a one-off, | :23:07. | :23:11.
I still don't think it will have any bearing on the lake. They are | :23:11. | :23:15.
back to bread and butter, egg will be difficult. We have won the | :23:15. | :23:20.
trophy tonight but we have asked the players to enjoy the occasion. | :23:20. | :23:23.
They will enjoy this victory against their neighbours. | :23:23. | :23:26.
Cliftonville will be hoping to taste more success in the coming | :23:26. | :23:34.
months. There were a few eyebrows raised at the omission of Ulster's | :23:34. | :23:36.
Andrew Trimble from Ireland's Six Nations squad for Saturday's | :23:36. | :23:46.
:23:46. | :23:46. | ||
opening match away to Wales. The match day 22 for that game will be | :23:46. | :23:49.
named tomorrow. Trimble played for the Irish Wolfhounds against | :23:49. | :23:52.
England Saxons on Friday night. 11 of that team are in Declan Kidney's | :23:52. | :23:55.
squad, but not Trimble. Tyrone captured their sixth Dr McKenna Cup | :23:55. | :23:58.
in less than a decade with a comfortable win over Monaghan at | :23:58. | :24:01.
the weekend. Attention now turns to the beginning of the League | :24:01. | :24:05.
campaign which begins this weekend. Thomas Niblock reports. Despite the | :24:05. | :24:08.
attendance of almost 5000 people, it wasn't the biggest cheer you've | :24:08. | :24:13.
ever heard. That's because you get the sense Tyrone have their eyes on | :24:13. | :24:19.
bigger prizes in 2013. This current side has a youthful feel to it. | :24:19. | :24:22.
Conor McAliskey is a new name at corner forward. But the end product | :24:22. | :24:27.
is pretty much the same. And the young boys are only following in | :24:27. | :24:32.
the footsteps of the more seasoned campaigners. After a tense first | :24:32. | :24:34.
quarter, Tyrone, led by captain Stephen O'Neill, strolled to a ten- | :24:34. | :24:39.
point victory. So what message does this win send out ahead of the | :24:39. | :24:45.
beginning of the league next week? It does not send out any signals. | :24:46. | :24:49.
The League is a different competition and the level is raised | :24:49. | :24:53.
again so we know that they are up with the best in the country. We | :24:53. | :24:58.
are up for a real battle. During Saturday's final, the Ulster | :24:58. | :25:01.
Council revealed the figure raised from the Match for Michaela in | :25:01. | :25:07.
November was 144,000. A satisfying evening both on and off the pitch | :25:07. | :25:15.
for Tyrone manager Mickey Harte and the Michaela Foundation. | :25:15. | :25:20.
certainly is. We are just overwhelmed by this. Way and knew | :25:20. | :25:24.
that Glenlee took on this match, they were put their heart and soul | :25:24. | :25:28.
into it and nobody does it better. We are more than pleased and this | :25:28. | :25:33.
is such a great start with the foundation. Tyrone will take on | :25:33. | :25:36.
Down in their first league game next week. James McCartan will have | :25:36. | :25:44.
plenty to think about. And that's all the sport. We had a lot of rain | :25:44. | :25:53.
This week we have started with pretty wet, windy conditions and we | :25:53. | :25:57.
had some heavy downpours are living through this morning only to be | :25:57. | :26:01.
followed by heavy showers for the afternoon, showing up as the bright | :26:01. | :26:06.
green. We are not out of the when's with another batch of windy weather | :26:06. | :26:11.
edging tomorrow but it will be mild. Beyond that it starts to cool down | :26:11. | :26:16.
through the rest of the week. The rain eases into a mixture of | :26:16. | :26:21.
scattered showers. This evening, we are not done with the showers, some | :26:21. | :26:26.
sharp ones around. Still quite windy as well. It will dry up | :26:26. | :26:31.
tonight and the wind will these but enough to hold the temperatures at | :26:31. | :26:38.
around four degrees so for many it is frost-free. Tomorrow, fatally a | :26:38. | :26:42.
milder day but as I say, wet and windy and you would be very lucky | :26:42. | :26:47.
to catch any glimpses of the sun rise in the morning. The cloud will | :26:47. | :26:53.
be rolling in very quickly. The rains but again for the rush hour, | :26:53. | :26:57.
heavy bursts around so to watch out for the surface water on the roads | :26:57. | :27:01.
and it is happy to be persistent, lingering into the afternoon. That | :27:01. | :27:06.
is more the case for Eastern Counties. Drier weather moving into | :27:06. | :27:10.
the west and eventually that will push into the east from mid- | :27:10. | :27:14.
afternoon. The a lot brighter Glens for the end of the day but a very | :27:14. | :27:19.
mild day with temperatures at 11 or 12 degrees. As that weather system | :27:19. | :27:24.
pulls out of the way, tomorrow evening, we get the isobars | :27:24. | :27:28.
squeezed, that is the strengthening wind and we could see gusts of 60 | :27:28. | :27:35.
mph on the north coast. The wind eases tomorrow night, still Wendy, | :27:35. | :27:39.
still some showers moving through it and then largely it will clear | :27:39. | :27:43.
the way for a bright and breezy Wednesday but cooler and that trend | :27:43. | :27:50.
continues for the rest of the week. That's it. The next summary is at | :27:50. | :27:55. |
