Good evening, the headlines on BBC Newsline. An apology in court after | :00:22. | :00:27.
the weekend death of a police officer. Her colleagues pay tribute | :00:27. | :00:35.
to her. A young lady in the prime of her life to defy is what my | :00:35. | :00:38.
police officers do - they go out and serve people to make Northern | :00:38. | :00:41.
Ireland a better place. A speed boat driver pleads guilty to | :00:41. | :00:44.
killing this six year old off a County Down beach. Arrests are made | :00:44. | :00:48.
over the murder of a man during a struggle at his Bangor home. | :00:48. | :00:56.
Reaction to the surprise decision by the Pope to resign. I think this | :00:57. | :01:00.
is a profound act of humility, a conscientious decision. | :01:00. | :01:03.
Northern Ireland's brightest boxing star Carl Frampton, the new | :01:03. | :01:05.
European champion, will join us here in studio. | :01:05. | :01:08.
Cold but mainly dry for the moment but rain midweek will bring | :01:09. | :01:18.
:01:19. | :01:20. | ||
slightly milder air. One of the men accused of being | :01:20. | :01:23.
involved in the car crash that killed Police Constable Phillipa | :01:23. | :01:28.
Reynolds has apologised for his role in what happened. The officer | :01:28. | :01:31.
was sitting in a police car when it was hit by a stolen vehicle in | :01:31. | :01:41.
:01:41. | :01:48. | ||
Londonderry at the weekend. 25 year-old Christopher faces 10 | :01:48. | :01:57.
charges including debt by dangerous driving. 23 year-old Conner faces | :01:57. | :02:04.
four charges including aggravated vehicle taking and causing death. | :02:04. | :02:07.
27 year-old Constable Phillipa Reynolds was a backstreet passenger | :02:07. | :02:11.
in this unmarked police vehicle which was struck by a stolen car in | :02:11. | :02:15.
the early hours of Saturday morning. She died at the scene. Two | :02:15. | :02:20.
colleagues were injured, though not seriously. At one point in today's | :02:20. | :02:23.
hearing, both defendants started chatting as the charges were being | :02:23. | :02:29.
read out. The district judge warned them to stand silently. A solicitor | :02:29. | :02:35.
said he wanted to publicly express an apology and regret for what he | :02:35. | :02:39.
termed his role in this tragic incident. A detective agreed that | :02:39. | :02:43.
the front seat passenger had co- operated fully with police and | :02:43. | :02:48.
expressed remorse. Both men were remanded in custody. The district | :02:48. | :02:52.
judge conveyed his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues | :02:52. | :02:57.
of Constable Phillipa Reynolds and described her death as a needless | :02:57. | :03:03.
and senseless loss of life. The officer had only been in a PSNI for | :03:03. | :03:09.
two years. She was keen hockey player and had captained the second | :03:09. | :03:16.
11 team. She was a great girl, a great defender. She was always | :03:16. | :03:22.
taking a run up and the fact that her nickname was flipper, she was | :03:22. | :03:27.
also very active and very encouraging. She will be sorely | :03:27. | :03:30.
missed and it is a terrible thing that has happened to her and her | :03:30. | :03:39.
family. Constable Reynolds's family released this photograph a to | :03:39. | :03:45.
underline her sense of fun. At her old school, they recall a bubbly | :03:45. | :03:48.
character. This has come as a great shock to us. She was a temporary | :03:48. | :03:53.
teacher with us over two years ago. She was filling in for a teacher on | :03:53. | :03:57.
maternity leave. She taught geography and she was a great | :03:57. | :04:00.
sports person although at the time she was here, she had an injury to | :04:00. | :04:03.
her knee but she worked very well with the pupils and the pupils | :04:03. | :04:09.
liked her very much. Colleagues were left devastated by her death. | :04:09. | :04:15.
She defied those officers who are on duty 24 - seven, despite a | :04:15. | :04:21.
pressures that we have faced. Just out there, keeping people CF, | :04:21. | :04:26.
serving her community to the best of her ability. Just doing her best. | :04:26. | :04:30.
The police said the young officer loved her job and was deeply | :04:30. | :04:36.
committed to serving the community. Two people have been arrested by | :04:36. | :04:38.
detectives investigating the murder of a man in Bangor. Stephen | :04:38. | :04:42.
Davidson, who was 31, was found dead in the living-room of his home | :04:42. | :04:46.
by a relative on Sunday night. He was last seen alive on Newtownards | :04:46. | :04:50.
Road in Bangor at 9:30pm on Saturday night. One line of inquiry | :04:50. | :04:53.
is that Mr Davidson knew his attacker or attackers and invited | :04:53. | :04:57.
them into the house. A 40 year-old man and 30 year-old woman are being | :04:57. | :05:00.
questioned about the murder and there have been searches in the | :05:00. | :05:04.
town. The police say there is evidence of a violent struggle | :05:04. | :05:12.
inside. It appears that he has been | :05:12. | :05:16.
involved in some sort of altercation in the House and as a | :05:16. | :05:20.
result of that, he has sustained fatal injuries. The fact that we | :05:20. | :05:24.
have made arrests and the fact I am telling you the assault happened in | :05:24. | :05:27.
the House may indicate that it was someone known to him. | :05:27. | :05:31.
The driver of a speed boat has pleaded guilty to killing a boy in | :05:31. | :05:34.
a seaside accident in County Down. Damien McCann from Sandy Hill in | :05:34. | :05:37.
Newry admitted the manslaughter of six year-old Stuart Wilson who had | :05:37. | :05:47.
:05:47. | :05:49. | ||
been wake boarding when he was struck by McCann's speedboat. | :05:49. | :05:52.
Stuart Wilson's family leaving court this afternoon. They did not | :05:52. | :05:56.
want to talk on camera but will issue a statement after McCann is | :05:56. | :06:01.
sentenced. On a day like today, the water here is deserted but in the | :06:01. | :06:05.
summer, this is one of Northern Ireland's busiest beaches and on | :06:05. | :06:10.
that bank holiday Monday in 2010, six year-old Stuart Wilson was | :06:10. | :06:14.
among hundreds of people enjoying the water and the last of the | :06:14. | :06:17.
summer holidays. He was being pulled along on a wake boarding | :06:17. | :06:21.
when the accident happened. He was struck by the speed boat and | :06:21. | :06:24.
suffered severe head injuries. He was given first aid at the scene | :06:24. | :06:29.
but died later in the Royal Victoria Hospital. McCann had | :06:29. | :06:34.
intended to make a trip to this White House and returned to the | :06:34. | :06:40.
beach but he raised his speedboat too high and field to spot Stuart | :06:40. | :06:46.
and the boat. At the last minute, McCann swerved and hit Stuart | :06:46. | :06:49.
Wilson. A lawyer for McCann said his client had been filled with | :06:49. | :06:52.
remorse over what had happened that day will stop he said he had never | :06:52. | :06:57.
set out with the intention of hurting anybody but had, on the | :06:57. | :07:01.
spur of the moment, decided to make a family boat trip, aborted trip | :07:01. | :07:07.
that was to go hurriedly wrong. He said McCann had never been able to | :07:07. | :07:11.
talk about the events was his own children who had been in the boat | :07:11. | :07:18.
with him. Expressing his sympathy to the family, the judge recalled | :07:18. | :07:22.
how he had come close to losing his own children when they were in a | :07:22. | :07:26.
similar age and said he was not sure that he could have coped. He | :07:26. | :07:31.
said he wanted to give this matter his fullest consideration and so | :07:31. | :07:35.
put sentencing of until noon tomorrow. McCann has been remanded | :07:35. | :07:40.
in custody until that time. Still to come on programme: Why | :07:40. | :07:44.
Stormont MLAs will no longer be allowed to sit as MPs in the House | :07:44. | :07:53.
of Commons. Catholics throughout Ireland have | :07:53. | :07:55.
been reacting to the dramatic and unexpected resignation of Pope | :07:55. | :08:00.
Benedict. The Pope is to step down at the end of this month. A | :08:00. | :08:02.
statement said his strength was no longer adequate to continue in | :08:03. | :08:08.
office due to his advanced age. The leader of Ireland's Catholics, | :08:08. | :08:11.
Cardinal Sean Brady, held a news conference in Armagh this evening. | :08:11. | :08:19.
He said the announcement had come as a shock to him. | :08:19. | :08:25.
With typical humility, courage and love for the Church, he has clearly | :08:25. | :08:30.
come to the view that the Lord now wants him to devote the rest of his | :08:30. | :08:36.
physical and spiritual energies by serving the Church in prayer. I | :08:36. | :08:40.
think this is a profound act of humility, a conscientious and | :08:40. | :08:43.
responsible decision. The news of the Pope's resignation | :08:43. | :08:46.
came out of the blue. We have been gathering reaction from people on | :08:46. | :08:54.
the streets of Armagh and Belfast. I am just shocked, I really am. | :08:54. | :08:59.
cannot take it in. Very much surprised, but he is old and, maybe | :08:59. | :09:04.
too old for the job. Younger would be better, they're always too old. | :09:04. | :09:09.
If he feigns not able to do the job, he is doing the right thing. What | :09:09. | :09:19.
:09:19. | :09:21. | ||
can you say, it is sad and we would prefer him. | :09:21. | :09:26.
How unexpected was this decision in the Vatican? It was flagged 18 | :09:26. | :09:29.
months ago and speculation then died off but certainly there were | :09:29. | :09:34.
people who knew it would happen. But it seemed to be secret, only if | :09:34. | :09:38.
you knew about it. It came as a surprise to everyone else including | :09:38. | :09:43.
the cardinal. He described it as a profound act of humility. I would | :09:44. | :09:46.
say it is a profound act of leadership in the church, something | :09:46. | :09:51.
we don't see every day. Something had not seen in the Church in | :09:51. | :09:59.
Ireland in recent years. It will set a precedent for people from the | :09:59. | :10:09.
:10:09. | :10:09. | ||
pop down. -- the pop down. Looking at the job he has done over | :10:09. | :10:15.
relatively short time as Pope, how will people look at that legacy? | :10:15. | :10:19.
is a mixed legacy. They will remember him as someone who was not | :10:19. | :10:24.
afraid to step up to the plate and seek -- say things how he saw them. | :10:24. | :10:30.
He was a teaching post and he has left enough books for everybody | :10:30. | :10:35.
from academics to the rest of us lowly Catholics. We saw the book | :10:35. | :10:40.
that came out about Jesus before Christmas that told us there was no | :10:40. | :10:43.
donkey's in the crowd in Bethlehem for instance. On a more serious | :10:43. | :10:50.
note, his relations with the Jews, especially with Islam's and Muslims | :10:50. | :10:56.
was quite mixed. We saw a lot of different slip ups innings he said. | :10:56. | :11:00.
People not editing his speeches closely enough but from an Irish | :11:00. | :11:10.
perspective, the big issue was child abuse. This is the man who | :11:10. | :11:15.
was in charge of child sex abuse of virus from 2001 when he said they | :11:15. | :11:19.
were on a learning curve and then subsequently became a pop. In terms | :11:19. | :11:24.
of town sex abuse, that will be the major chapter in any book written | :11:24. | :11:29.
on him. Some of those winds still have not healed, when can we hear | :11:29. | :11:36.
about his successor, someone who has to take on that role? 20 days | :11:36. | :11:42.
normally after a Pope dies, that is when an election has to be held. | :11:42. | :11:50.
Interestingly, in corporate terms, the Pope has almost given a month's | :11:50. | :11:53.
and others of his resignation so there is actually another 20 days | :11:53. | :11:56.
or more on top of that so potentially we have 40 days to | :11:56. | :12:02.
think about a new Pope and in terms of child sexual abuse, the big | :12:02. | :12:12.
:12:12. | :12:14. | ||
issue is, we need a Pope now, Pope Benedict came across as a prophet, | :12:15. | :12:20.
we need a warm and compassionate person to reach out to victims of | :12:20. | :12:28.
abuse and all those who feel marginalised in the future. | :12:28. | :12:35.
Coming up: Belfast boxer Carl Frampton talks about a world title | :12:35. | :12:44.
bout. MLAs at Stormont will be no longer | :12:44. | :12:48.
allowed to also work as MPs after 2015. The ban on double jobbing was | :12:48. | :12:51.
confirmed in a draft law published today. Our political editor Mark | :12:51. | :13:00.
Devenport is at Stormont. It is in a long time coming? Yes, | :13:00. | :13:03.
Conservatives have been promising this from the time when they were | :13:03. | :13:07.
in opposition, they are now making good on that promise. The ban will | :13:07. | :13:11.
come in from the end of this Assembly term. It is already a | :13:11. | :13:16.
practice that has been dying out. We have a date for a by-election in | :13:16. | :13:20.
Mid-Ulster and that leads three politicians who are double jobbing, | :13:20. | :13:24.
Sammy Wilson and Gregory Campbell and Ulster McDonald. Apart from | :13:24. | :13:31.
that double jobbing aliment, this is memorable for what is not in it. | :13:31. | :13:34.
The Government talked about possibly trading some opposition at | :13:34. | :13:40.
Stormont, making Stormont a smaller place. They have not done any of | :13:40. | :13:43.
those things. The government has announced plans | :13:43. | :13:46.
to cap the amount elderly people in England will have to pay for social | :13:46. | :13:50.
care, that is what they pay for both personal and nursing care in a | :13:50. | :13:53.
state or privately run home. The limit would be 75,000 in a | :13:53. | :13:56.
person's lifetime. Dr Anne Marie Gray is a senior university | :13:57. | :14:06.
lecturer on the subject. When it comes to Northern Ireland, how does | :14:06. | :14:11.
it operate? A because of devolution, it is the Assembly that will decide | :14:11. | :14:14.
whether they follow suit and implement the same proposals that | :14:14. | :14:17.
are being suggested for England or whether we radically depart from | :14:17. | :14:22.
that. That however is unlikely because we are tied together by a | :14:22. | :14:27.
common tax and social security benefits system. I think it does | :14:27. | :14:34.
present challenges. Whilst some people have recommend it, there is | :14:34. | :14:37.
a feeling that the threshold is too high. When you look at Northern | :14:38. | :14:41.
Ireland and the amount people do have to pay but that social care, | :14:41. | :14:46.
the limit in England will be 75,000, can we put on average on | :14:46. | :14:50.
it here? We do know that many people have to spend more than that | :14:50. | :14:54.
on their social care, we also know this is a complex issue and the | :14:54. | :14:59.
public don't like the means testing, they don't like the complexity of | :14:59. | :15:08.
it because it is hard to figure out. In fact, research that we carried | :15:08. | :15:12.
out in 2010 among Republican Northern Ireland showed that the | :15:12. | :15:17.
vast majority of people would have favoured a social care system that | :15:17. | :15:20.
the NHS where care is free at the point of delivery, perhaps paid for | :15:20. | :15:25.
out of special insurance. A review has been put out a consultation | :15:25. | :15:30.
looking at adult care - does funding come under that? It doesn't | :15:30. | :15:35.
go into any detail, it is a much broader picture looking at social | :15:35. | :15:40.
care more generally. There is not much detail in this paper on | :15:40. | :15:43.
resourcing but I think it is an interesting point because we need | :15:43. | :15:49.
to look at this in the round. The policy emphasis is on the moving | :15:49. | :15:53.
care from the residential sector to the home sector. We have more | :15:53. | :15:56.
people in residential care than in the rest of the UK under think the | :15:57. | :16:00.
public preference is for more home care but that means looking at | :16:00. | :16:04.
funding residential care. We need to look at home care support and | :16:04. | :16:09.
the appropriateness of housing and sustainability in terms of home | :16:09. | :16:13.
care staff. Sport now with Stephen Watson and | :16:13. | :16:21.
we have a European boxing champion in our midst. | :16:21. | :16:27.
Belfast boxer Carl Frampton is here. He is now looking for a world-title | :16:27. | :16:29.
shot after he became the European super-bantamweight champion on | :16:29. | :16:34.
Saturday night. We will chat in a moment. First, here is how he did | :16:34. | :16:38.
it. The knockout punch which helped floor the reigning champion Kiko | :16:38. | :16:48.
:16:48. | :17:00. | ||
Martinez of Spain. What a finish for Carl Frampton! It was a | :17:00. | :17:03.
terrific performance in front of a packed house at the Odyssey Arena. | :17:03. | :17:06.
A 9th round stoppage which has helped make Karl our newest | :17:06. | :17:14.
sporting star. How do you reflect on what was a fantastic night at | :17:14. | :17:20.
the Odyssey? It really was a great night, the atmosphere was amazing. | :17:20. | :17:23.
I was in the zone going into the fight so I didn't really realise | :17:23. | :17:27.
how good it was until after when I went home and watched it but it was | :17:27. | :17:31.
a great night for me. With Barry McGuigan in your corner, he is your | :17:31. | :17:37.
manager, the comparison start with what he did and what you could do | :17:37. | :17:42.
in and outside the ring - had his doubts that with you? It's it's OK, | :17:42. | :17:45.
I am being compared to Barry McGuigan, one of the greatest | :17:45. | :17:50.
writers to come out of Ireland so that is nice. The end goal for me | :17:50. | :17:54.
was always to turn professional and be a world champion. It is in our | :17:54. | :17:59.
grasp now, we're getting close. we look at some of the action, what | :17:59. | :18:04.
an atmosphere! I was there ringside and it was absolutely tremendous. | :18:04. | :18:08.
The whole of Northern Ireland uniting behind you? It was amazing | :18:08. | :18:14.
and I got a text message from a man who has been going to boxing shows | :18:14. | :18:18.
all his life and he said it was one of the best atmospheres he had ever | :18:18. | :18:22.
seen. What is next for you, I know there is talk of a world title in | :18:22. | :18:27.
May? There is talk of an elimination fight but there is also | :18:27. | :18:31.
talk that we could get a straight shot at the world champion. | :18:31. | :18:35.
Hopefully they will find out something in the next two weeks but | :18:35. | :18:39.
we're only one or two fights away from a world title. It would have | :18:39. | :18:45.
to be in Belfast? Yes, the sanctioning body, after seeing the | :18:45. | :18:48.
atmosphere and the scenes on Saturday night, they will wonder to | :18:48. | :18:53.
be in Belfast as well. It is a big year for you outside the ring, you | :18:53. | :19:00.
getting married? Yes, in October. The best man is Paddy Barnes. | :19:00. | :19:04.
Olympic medallist, that should be an interesting speech. I don't know | :19:04. | :19:08.
if it is a mistake or not! Congratulations on Saturday night | :19:08. | :19:12.
and we will be following your progress very closely. | :19:12. | :19:15.
Ireland's hope of a Grand Slam or even a Triple Crown came to an | :19:15. | :19:18.
abrupt end in the second game of the Six Nations Championship | :19:18. | :19:23.
yesterday. England beat them 16-12 in Dublin. Ireland emerged bruised | :19:23. | :19:26.
with a number of injured players including Simon Zebo who will miss | :19:26. | :19:36.
:19:36. | :19:37. | ||
the rest of the championship. The fans came to Dublin in | :19:37. | :19:40.
anticipation and high spirits despite the weather but all the | :19:40. | :19:46.
fireworks were resolved for the pre-match hype. Ireland misfired in | :19:47. | :19:53.
a first have littered with unforced errors. A stamp from the cane he | :19:53. | :20:00.
leak sparked ugly scenes and could have a further repercussions. The | :20:00. | :20:05.
most composed man on the pitch was 21 year-old Owen Farrell who kicked | :20:05. | :20:11.
England into a six-point first half lead. With Johnny Sexton injured, | :20:12. | :20:15.
the experience of Ronan O'Gara showed in the third quarter as he | :20:15. | :20:23.
drew Ireland level. But Ireland were punished made on. The men in | :20:23. | :20:31.
green had no reply. We believe from the out go that we could win and | :20:31. | :20:35.
there was just a couple of things that didn't go our way. I thought | :20:35. | :20:39.
England did well to capitalise on that. They played a pressure game. | :20:39. | :20:45.
They played a lot in our half, they probably one of the territory and | :20:45. | :20:51.
possession game, I would imagine. We all had the same conditions, it | :20:51. | :20:56.
didn't make it easy and they took their scores. No Triple Crown for | :20:56. | :20:59.
Ireland this year that Jamie Heaslip may well get his hands on | :20:59. | :21:03.
the Six Nations Trophy, there are still all to play for. Next up is | :21:03. | :21:07.
Scotland in two weeks' time. There was a better performance from | :21:07. | :21:10.
Ireland's women's rugby team as they beat England. Ireland scored | :21:10. | :21:14.
four unanswered tries in a comprehensive victory at Ashbourne. | :21:14. | :21:17.
Winger Alison Miller ran in a first half hat-trick against England, the | :21:17. | :21:20.
reigning Six Nations champions in women's rugby who had not lost a | :21:20. | :21:27.
game in the competition since 2009. Niamh Briggs scored the 4th try | :21:27. | :21:30.
early in the second half and England had no response. Ireland, | :21:31. | :21:39.
who also beat Wales last week, travel to Scotland in a fortnight. | :21:39. | :21:42.
He may have won Sam Maguire three times but this picture shows just | :21:42. | :21:45.
what it meant to Owen Mulligan to captain his club to All-Ireland | :21:45. | :21:49.
intermediate success. Father Rocks from Cookstown defeated Finuge at | :21:49. | :21:52.
Croke Park while Loughiel hurlers are still in the hunt to retain | :21:52. | :22:02.
:22:02. | :22:03. | ||
their title. So often in the past, Liam Watson | :22:03. | :22:09.
has been the hero for Loughiel and in the dying seconds of extra-time, | :22:09. | :22:14.
three points down, and needing to find a way past eight players on | :22:14. | :22:24.
:22:24. | :22:24. | ||
the line, Watson performed yet another miracle to force a replay. | :22:24. | :22:32.
At times, it looked as if the crown slipping away from them. Crucially, | :22:32. | :22:35.
they out scored the opposition by three goals to one. The clubs will | :22:35. | :22:42.
battle it out once again in Dublin on Saturday. All-Ireland champions | :22:42. | :22:50.
Donegal defeated Down in a repeat of last year's final. Minds to a | :22:50. | :22:57.
man-of-the-match performance by Michael Murphy. In injury-time, a | :22:57. | :23:00.
penalty from Stephen O'Neill was the difference between the sides as | :23:00. | :23:05.
a Tyrone edged out mail by one point. | :23:05. | :23:08.
In football's Irish Cup, two so- called minnows, Knockbreda and | :23:08. | :23:10.
Kilmore Rec, are through to the quarter-finals after the weekend's | :23:10. | :23:14.
sixth-round ties. The most dramatic game came in the derby tie at the | :23:14. | :23:22.
Ballymena Showgrounds. The game started with the goal- | :23:22. | :23:27.
kicking howler as Governor Taggart's Evered totally deceived | :23:27. | :23:31.
the goalkeeper. The visitors equalised before half-time and took | :23:31. | :23:37.
the lead through an own goal midway through the second half. But | :23:37. | :23:45.
Ballymena appeared to have forced a replay with this equaliser in the | :23:45. | :23:53.
88 Signet only do this knockout punch delivered in injury-time. | :23:53. | :23:56.
Irish Cup is massive and the top six is massive but I said to the | :23:56. | :24:00.
players, it is the time of the season when you have to stand up | :24:00. | :24:04.
and be counted and today we had quite a few who did. Cole rain will | :24:04. | :24:10.
face Portadown in the last eight. It they defeated Ards courtesy of | :24:10. | :24:18.
this fine strike. Also through are Crusaders who swept past Glenavon | :24:18. | :24:23.
four-to-one with a first half hat- trick. Cliftonville's hopes of | :24:23. | :24:30.
clinching a travel continue after beating Donegal Celtic 2-0. | :24:30. | :24:35.
Glentoran survived an early scare at Bangor, recovering from 2-0 down | :24:35. | :24:42.
to eventually win 5-2. In the only Irish Premiership match played on | :24:42. | :24:47.
Saturday, Linfield were 4-1 winners at Dungannon. They have | :24:47. | :24:50.
consolidated their position of third in the table. | :24:50. | :24:53.
There's more football tonight with the first matches in this year's | :24:53. | :25:03.
:25:03. | :25:08. | ||
Setanta Cup. We will have action on tomorrow's programme. | :25:08. | :25:12.
Carl Frampton is waiting to have his photograph taken with you, | :25:12. | :25:17.
Donna? It was the best sporting occasion I have been to in years. | :25:17. | :25:20.
Absolutely tremendous. BBC Northern Ireland's current | :25:20. | :25:23.
affairs programme, Spotlight, has won a major award. At the Irish | :25:23. | :25:26.
Film and Television Awards in Dublin, it won the current affairs | :25:26. | :25:33.
category for the programme, Sean Quinn's Missing Millions. The award | :25:33. | :25:43.
:25:43. | :25:43. | ||
was accepted by our Business and Economics Editor, Jim Fitzpatrick. | :25:44. | :25:48.
Economics Editor, Jim Fitzpatrick. A look now at the weather forecast. | :25:48. | :25:52.
February has so far been a wet month. We don't really want any | :25:52. | :25:57.
more rain but we are not out of the woods just yet. Tomorrow looks like | :25:57. | :26:03.
a mainly dry day with more wet weather coming in for Wednesday. | :26:03. | :26:08.
The end of the week looks slightly milder. Certainly cold and cloudy | :26:08. | :26:13.
today. Grey skies across many parts of Northern Ireland and the only | :26:13. | :26:17.
hope of a glimmer of brightness was towards the east coast for a time. | :26:17. | :26:22.
Through the afternoon we have seen a few showers appearing, they will | :26:22. | :26:28.
continue to this evening in the West. There may be a dusting of | :26:29. | :26:35.
snow in the hills. You could see some clear spells developing across | :26:35. | :26:40.
the north and east later in the night as well. Temperatures to | :26:40. | :26:49.
freezing. Some frost is likely. Tomorrow, and mainly dry day coming | :26:49. | :26:58.
up. There could be a few icy patches on untreated roads through | :26:58. | :27:03.
the rush-hour as well. It is mainly dry and we may even see a little | :27:03. | :27:11.
bit of brightness during the morning. Don't count on it lasting, | :27:11. | :27:15.
the cloud will fill in through the course of the day. Another gloomy | :27:15. | :27:19.
but dry day. Cold with temperatures of only up to four or five degrees. | :27:19. | :27:23.
Some patchy rain moves in from the West tomorrow evening and as it | :27:23. | :27:29.
falls on to the cold air, they might be some who will snow. If | :27:29. | :27:33.
anything, through the night it will turn terrain quite quickly. Strong | :27:33. | :27:37.
winds picking up from the south and heavy spells of rain living its way | :27:37. | :27:42. |
