there's a first look at the papers over on the BBC | :00:00. | :00:00.
Fox Good evening. A 48-year-old man's been charged | :00:00. | :00:13.
with the murder of two Catholic workmen in north Belfast almost 20 | :00:14. | :00:17.
years ago. 44-year-old Eamon Fox and Gary Convie, who was 24, were | :00:18. | :00:21.
sitting in their car at a building site in North Queen Street when a | :00:22. | :00:24.
gunman opened fire with a sub-machine gun. The man charged | :00:25. | :00:29.
will appear at Belfast Magistrates Court in the morning. He is also | :00:30. | :00:32.
accused of attempted murder and having a firearm. A 41-year-old | :00:33. | :00:36.
woman has been released. A man charged with killing two of | :00:37. | :00:39.
his former girlfriends is to be prosecuted for the murder of a third | :00:40. | :00:44.
partner. Leslie Ross, from Dromore, in County Down, has been told he | :00:45. | :00:48.
will be charged over the death of Lily McKee in 2002. Gordon Adair | :00:49. | :01:03.
reports. Last year, Leslie Ross, who lived | :01:04. | :01:08.
here in Dromore, was charged with two murders. Both were former | :01:09. | :01:14.
girlfriends of this stonemason. One was discovered in 2012. Five years | :01:15. | :01:18.
before that, the body of Margaret Weis was found. Five years before | :01:19. | :01:23.
that, in 2002, Lily McKee, who was 52, was found dead. She was a mother | :01:24. | :01:28.
of one. Again, she was from Dromore and again she was a partner of | :01:29. | :01:33.
Leslie Ross. At the time of the initial two charges, the police | :01:34. | :01:36.
passed a file to the Public Prosecution Service and today at | :01:37. | :01:40.
court, they revealed that Leslie Ross will now be charged with the | :01:41. | :01:45.
murder of Lily McKee. Leslie Ross's solicitor said his client denied the | :01:46. | :01:50.
involvement in all three of the women's deaths. Last year, Leslie | :01:51. | :01:54.
Ross was shot with three other offences, indecent assault, gross | :01:55. | :01:58.
indecency with a child and indecently assaulting a female | :01:59. | :02:03.
child. Today, the prosecutor approved those charges without | :02:04. | :02:08.
prejudice. It is understand they will now be pursued through separate | :02:09. | :02:13.
court proceedings at another date. It's been confirmed that 197 people | :02:14. | :02:17.
are to lose their jobs at a call centre in north Belfast. The | :02:18. | :02:20.
company, TeleTech, lost a substantial contract to a | :02:21. | :02:23.
competitor. Eunan McConville has more details. | :02:24. | :02:30.
This is TeleTech, a US owned communications company with bases in | :02:31. | :02:32.
many countries around the world. It has been operating call centres in | :02:33. | :02:41.
Belfast since 2001. These job losses are as a result of the company | :02:42. | :02:45.
losing a contract with car manufacturer Nissan. TeleTech had | :02:46. | :02:50.
been providing customer support for Nissan but a French company recently | :02:51. | :02:55.
won the contract. We will keep in contact with the company, offer any | :02:56. | :02:58.
assistance we can, but obviously, this is very bad news for those | :02:59. | :03:03.
working in TeleTech connected with this contract. A statement from the | :03:04. | :03:06.
company said: The company says that they are | :03:07. | :03:24.
looking for other business opportunities, but have not | :03:25. | :03:30.
identified any at this time. It says the site will remain open. We have | :03:31. | :03:34.
been in touch with TeleTech, we're willing to meet with them, we have | :03:35. | :03:37.
talked to some of those who would be unemployed, some of the employees | :03:38. | :03:41.
here, to see if there's anything we can do about it. The people losing | :03:42. | :03:47.
their jobs will be given the opportunity to follow the work to | :03:48. | :03:50.
France, but of course, that one to France, but of course, that won't | :03:51. | :03:56.
suit everyone. A man whose car was targeted in a | :03:57. | :04:00.
bomb attack in Londonderry has told BBC Newsline he can't understand why | :04:01. | :04:03.
he was singled out. Christy Tarr, from the Creggan estate, says his | :04:04. | :04:06.
family has been left traumatised. Here's Keiron Tourish. | :04:07. | :04:13.
Christy Tarr says he is lucky to be alive after his car was targeted in | :04:14. | :04:17.
a bomb attack last night. The 29-year-old, who was at home with | :04:18. | :04:22.
his mother, says his family are devastated. Extensive damage was | :04:23. | :04:26.
caused to the silver Vauxhall, that was part in nearby gardens. The | :04:27. | :04:33.
device exploded at 10:40pm. Residents were at home nearby, but | :04:34. | :04:39.
no one was injured. I was sitting at home last night, just a normal | :04:40. | :04:42.
night, and there was a massive explosion outside, shook the whole | :04:43. | :04:48.
place, a big third. Anybody in the street, anybody walking past, they | :04:49. | :04:53.
could have been killed stone dead. Politicians strongly condemned the | :04:54. | :04:57.
attack. There for the grace of God, no one has been seriously injured or | :04:58. | :05:02.
killed. When there was a target last night, the victims were the people | :05:03. | :05:06.
behind us who were forced out of their homes. This latest attack | :05:07. | :05:11.
followed a shooting at a house in Creggan eight days ago. They need to | :05:12. | :05:14.
come forward and tell this community the rationale of what they are | :05:15. | :05:19.
doing. Because nobody seems to understand why. Community leaders | :05:20. | :05:22.
have called for the attacks to stop immediately. | :05:23. | :05:25.
?15 million is being spent by the Assembly to help parents of | :05:26. | :05:27.
school-age children get back to work. The Bright Start scheme will | :05:28. | :05:31.
subsidise the care of an extra 6,000 children here before and after | :05:32. | :05:35.
school and during the summer. The move will create 750 childcare jobs | :05:36. | :05:38.
and, from today, childcare providers can apply for the subsidy as long as | :05:39. | :05:49.
the cost is around ?70 a week. That would be quite reasonable, when you | :05:50. | :05:54.
look at private childcare which could be costing in excess of ?150, | :05:55. | :05:59.
so it is almost half. But if parents are able to utilise the tax breaks | :06:00. | :06:04.
that are available, it makes it even more affordable to them. | :06:05. | :06:07.
The Ulster Unionist party says it would be happy to see Pope Francis | :06:08. | :06:11.
visit Belfast. It issued a statement after one of the party's councillors | :06:12. | :06:14.
said he opposed a Papal visit to the city, fearing it could lead to | :06:15. | :06:18.
unrest. The city council is expected to discuss the idea next week. There | :06:19. | :06:22.
is a lot of flash photography at the start of this report from our | :06:23. | :06:24.
political correspondent Gareth Gordon. | :06:25. | :06:28.
Vatican this morning, two of the world's most famous men made for the | :06:29. | :06:32.
first time. One has already been to Belfast, the other, Pope Francis, | :06:33. | :06:38.
will be invited if a city councillor has his way. This union thinks it is | :06:39. | :06:43.
a bad idea. Perhaps some other part of Northern Ireland were closer to | :06:44. | :06:46.
the border, would be more appropriate. I think people need to | :06:47. | :06:50.
become realistic in this whole matter. Rather than trying to make | :06:51. | :06:54.
cheap political capital because we have two elections coming up in May. | :06:55. | :07:01.
Y-word closer to the border make any difference --Y-word pressure on | :07:02. | :07:04.
people in Belfast entitled to sue the Pope? Of course, but they can | :07:05. | :07:10.
travel down to the border. You will find there are a large portion of | :07:11. | :07:15.
Roman Catholics on the border area than there are in this area. I was | :07:16. | :07:21.
very comfortably collected last time on the first count. Alderman Rogers | :07:22. | :07:28.
was not, if you want to go and check the election results. As far as I am | :07:29. | :07:32.
concerned, it is an issue of portraying this place in a good, | :07:33. | :07:38.
positive night. -- light. Catholic sources say it is unlikely the Pope | :07:39. | :07:42.
would want to visit Ireland without coming north. The details will be | :07:43. | :07:45.
discussed with the Westminster government and the Executive was not | :07:46. | :07:50.
Belfast City Council. We are in Belfast, they took the flag them. | :07:51. | :07:54.
There would be controversy. I think it would be great to see the Pope | :07:55. | :07:57.
here but I don't think sex is this community would be ready. It would | :07:58. | :08:03.
be great if he was to lead the 12th of March. Jim Rogers says it is not | :08:04. | :08:09.
a question of no Pope here but that is not how others will see it. City | :08:10. | :08:14.
Hall is set, it seems, for another row. | :08:15. | :08:16.
And that debate continues on The View straight after this bulletin. | :08:17. | :08:20.
Let's get a look at the weather for tomorrow, here's Angie Philips. | :08:21. | :08:25.
Good evening. We are stuck with this chilly easterly breeze for another | :08:26. | :08:29.
24 hours at least and it will continue to bring showers as well. | :08:30. | :08:32.
We are going to see showers pushing their way westwards again through | :08:33. | :08:35.
the first part of the night and then almost grinding to a halt close to | :08:36. | :08:40.
the southern counties. Towards the north and north-west, it becomes | :08:41. | :08:43.
drier with clear spells and temperatures could dip close to | :08:44. | :08:46.
freezing, so we are looking up pockets of frost and maybe the odd | :08:47. | :08:50.
icy patch but where we have those cloudier skies in the South, it | :08:51. | :08:55.
should stay frost free. Tomorrow, the weather front bringing the | :08:56. | :08:58.
showers is still lingering close by and the white lines, the isobars, | :08:59. | :09:02.
are quite close together, an indication that it is going to be | :09:03. | :09:06.
breezy and chilly again. Showery rain will be pushing through the | :09:07. | :09:10.
South and East in the morning rush hour, some of it fairly heavy and | :09:11. | :09:13.
gradually tracking westwards through the latter stages of the morning. | :09:14. | :09:17.
The Republic of Ireland becomes drier and brighter for a time but we | :09:18. | :09:21.
have some heavy showers across the south of Wales, the south-west of | :09:22. | :09:25.
England and they will swing into Ireland in the afternoon. Also heavy | :09:26. | :09:28.
showers across the Pennines in northern England and into southern | :09:29. | :09:33.
Scotland. Elsewhere, it is right. Still chilly in the breeze but the | :09:34. | :09:36.
hint of something perhaps a bit warmer pushing into the south-east. | :09:37. | :09:40.
The Northern Ireland in the afternoon, still chilly, around | :09:41. | :09:45.
about eight or nine degrees. Driver time but then more showery rain | :09:46. | :09:49.
coming in later in the day and into tomorrow night, some of its heavy | :09:50. | :09:52.
and thundery. It could stay damp into Saturday, but at least through | :09:53. | :09:56.
the weekend, those temperatures are rising. | :09:57. | :09:59.
the weekend, those temperatures are That is it now, have a | :10:00. | :10:13.
