Good evening. Extra police officers have been

deployed in Larne after last night's violence. Up to 100 loyalists

ransacked three homes, injured a resident and a police officer. The

South East Antrim UDA has been blamed for the trouble, which it's

believed is connected to a feud and recent police arrests. Here's our

north-east reporter David Maxwell. Tensions have been mounting for

weeks according the police, at least two of the houses attacked have been

targeted previously. But no-one predicted the scale of

last night's trouble, in two parts of Larne This is Ferris Avenue when

two properties were damage. 100 men arrived in this estate. This is one

of the properties that was damaged and I have been speaking to a man

that was in this house at the time, he has described masked men coming

to the door, smashing the window, and the famine side, round five

people barricading themselves into the kitchen. He has described it

adds terrifying and it has left the family in shock. None wanted to

appear op camera but one member of the family said they are having to

consider whether they will stay in the area. Some of their neighbours

left their homes when the trouble was at its height. Anybody could

co-could that to anybody is terrible. Just terrible. I couldn't

ask for better neighbours. Both families attacked are neighbours and

it is understood part of the motivation for the violence is an

ongoing dispute with members of the south-east Antrim UDA. A shot was

fired through a window of this house in January. Another possible motive

is a show of strength following the recent arrests of six UDA members in

the area This group which wouldn't be recognised by other elms in the

UDA seem to be on some sort of a power trip. They want to grab power

in communities and we are determined to bring them to justice, not to

give them that legitimacy, they shouldn't exist in my opinion. The

other house attacked was a mile-and-a-half away. Here, the same

gang left a similar trail of destruction, and seriously injured

one man. A police officer was also injured during the hour long

rampage. The trouble was condemned on the floor of the assembly today,

where many politicians called for robust police action. I think the

police need to do more, the police were quickly on the ground last

night, but not in sufficient numbers. Nay had to retreat and wait

for reinforcements to come. By which stage the damage was done. The

police had an opportunity last night for arresting a lot of these men,

and let it slip through their hands, they were slow and they will have to

admit that themselves, they were too slow. The PSNI says its response was

appropriate and it had a public order unit on the ground within 20

minute, never the less, a number of police officers in the area will be

increased in the coming days. The family of a man who died at

Antrim Area Hospital four years ago have said they've had to fight for

every piece of information about his death. Neil Cormican was 81. He

passed away after being given the wrong medication. In a review of the

Northern Trust his case is one of 20 where the care was described as

"below standard". Our Health correspondent Marie-Louise Connolly

reports. In April 2010 Neil Cormican was in Antrim area hospital where he

was recovering from a fall. But after Jose Dover of potassium a drug

his family say he shouldn't have been described triggered a fatal

heart attack. His family say they have just wanted the truth. We never

set out on any kind of a witch hunt, we never wanted anyone to lose their

job, over what has happened. To our dad. But we felt that the standard

of dad's care over those two days was obviously extremely poor. What

we would like to see is that for the doctors and nurses who were

involved, in dad's case, where their performance was less than competent,

there should be a note on their record, to say what has happened and

that they have within involved in this It is a statutory deucety to

report such deaths to coroner. It took the trust six months to report

this death. Held later the inquest revealed a catalogue of failings.

The family received an apology, the trust's medical director said their

father had died as a result of mistakes made by clinical staff of

the hospital. He also apologised in his words, for the major mistake he

had made in advising that there was no need to inform the coroner about

the death. Last week, days before the minister

went public with details of a review, the trust again wrote to the

family. In that let e Paul Cummings a senior director at the trust,

offered to mark Mr Cormican's death with a donation to charity or the

purchase of a piece of art. I would have thought that the channel there

energies to improving their services would have been better for dad's

memory, rather than a piece of art with his name on it. I don't see the

lodge nick that at all. This afternoon in the assembly the Health

Minister confirmed that not all families have been informed of

details, and said he was considering new guidelines described as a duty

of candour. We are top story the idea, but I don't think it is the

entire solution. I think it may be part of the solution, and for

instance in some of the cases we have heard in the media, there may

have been a lack of communication with the family, and that is, that's

very clearly an issue. Neil Cormican had 17 grandchildren.

His story is one of several across the Health Service.

The police believe a pipe bomb found on the golf course in Strabane was a

clear attempt to kill police officers. The device was packed with

nuts and bolts. With more details - our North-West reporter Keiron

Tourish. Army bomb disposal experts spent all day Deeing with the

device. It was left on the golf course in Strabane. Two masked men

had warned residents about the device last night.

This is a six inch pipe, it is packed full of nuts and bolts and

there is explosives in it. Had this gone off this would have killed

anybody in the vicinity, 30, 40 yards, this would have killed, this

is a device designed to kill police officers. The golf club said some

members were playing on the course before the alert was raised. Very

alarming, we have had a few people playing this morning and not only

that, I mean our ground staff have been out cutting, with heavy

machinery, anything could have got disturbed. The bombers were strongly

condemned. Get off our back, that is what people have said to me today.

We don't want this any longer. They can't understand, as I have said the

logic of the guys who are intent on seriously maiming or killing

someone. Detectives who were investigating this incident have

issued an appeal for information. They want to hear from anyone who

noticed any suspicious activity in or round the golf course last

evening, to get in touch. Over 600 motorcycling fans gathered

at Titanic Belfast tonight to hear details of this year's North West

200. Among the announcements was news that the BBC will be covering

the event for the next five years. A dozen stars were there, including

the ten times winner Alastair Seeley. It is good to give it back

to fans who have had a hard couple of years with the weatherment it is

good to meet everybody and meet the top riders and in race week

sometimes it the hard to get us, when we are still in the zone, so it

is nice and relaxed here and everybody can see the machines we

are going to be riding as well. Now the weather. We have a wet spell

through tonight but once that clear, tomorrow looks as though it will be

drying up again, but you will need to make the most of it through the

rest of the week, we will find the clouds gatheringen again to bring

occasional spells of rain or showers. So for tonight, we do have

a weather warning in place, for those heavy bursts of rain, they

could well lead to localised surface water flooding. That rain continues

for a good part of the night before it starts to ease off and turn

lighter and patchy, but still damp by the end of the night but mild,

temperatures no lore than six degrees. So as we head into

tomorrow, yes, things are going to dry up and it will brighten up too,

but it will be a slow damp start with mist and hill fog, eventually

that patchy rain will be pulling away. Across the Republic of Ireland

becoming drier and brighter, and certainly dry and bright across many

parts of England and Wales with spells of hazy sunshine and highs

getting up to 20 degrees again in the south-east. Cloudier for

Scotland, with spells of patchy rain, the remnants of that weather

front. Some of those North Sea coasts they will be prone to mist

and sea fog and could feel cool. We could get some mist and sea fog

along at the east coast of Ireland and some of that could be drifting

up to Northern Ireland for the coast as we head towards the afternoon, in

that event temperatures pegged back a little at ten or 11 degrees.

Inland it brightens up with highs of 13 or 14. Enjoy it because through

the rest of the week the clouds are back, also occasional spells of
