Good evening. Martin McGuinness has said his decision to take part in

the UK State visit of the Irish President was bold but important.

The deputy first minister will attend a series of events, including

a banquet hosted by the Queen on Tuesday. Helen Jones reports. Martin

McGuinness shook hands with the cream in private and public during

her visit to Belfast two years ago and Sinn Fein have now confirmed he

will attend events during this week's first state visit to the UK

by the Irish president, Michael D Higgins. These will include a state

banquet. We are stepping forward. It is bold

but it is important and if you look at it from our perspective, we can

find reasons why we should not accept an invitation from Queen

Elizabeth to go to her accept an invitation from Queen

doubt she has many reasons not to invite us to her house. The reality

is that we have agreed that this is an important thing to do. Earlier

the Irish prime minister Enda Kenny said he believed the two could pave

the way for the Easter riot commemorations.

It should be possible for members of the Royal family to visit Dublin

during the centenary remembrance. It would be another event in the

continuing closeness and closer relationship to read other

countries. During his UK visit, resident Higgins will visit both

members of Parliament, a first for an Irish head of state.

And tomorrow evening on BBC Newsline, ahead of the State visit,

our reporter Andy West has a special report on the history of Irish

emigration to England and he examines the role the Irish

community now plays in the life of its neighbour.

A man in his 30s has escaped injury in a gun attack on a house in Toome.

angler Darryl Burke. Searches have been continuing since the

Doctor Donal McKeown has been installed as the new Catholic Bishop

of Derry. He was ordained at a ceremony in St Eugene's Cathedral

which was led by Cardinal Sean Brady. In his homily Bishop McKeown

said the churches should speak on behalf of the many who feel that

human needs are being neglected in the service of political priorities.

Well, there was Heineken Cup heartbreak for Ulster last night

after they lost narrowly to Saracens. Coach Mark Anscombe said

I think at worst it was a yellow card. I think a red card for minutes

into the game, we are always going to be chasing our tails. The boys

hung on in there. It was testament to the men we have got out there and

Tyrone Gaelic footballers in the National League. They lost to Dublin

by a single point this afternoon. The winning score came in injury

time. Dublin winning by 3-10 to 1-15. Derry are through to the

semifinals despite losing to Mayo in Castlebar. And now here's Geoff

Maskell with a look at the weather. It was a lovely end to the day

thanks to submit clear skies and they stay with us overnight. We are

between weather fronts. Tonight the temperature will drop markedly so we

will see temperatures good deal cooler than last night, I about five

degrees. Chances of fog by Dawn but tomorrow will have a different feel

to the weather. More rain around as we go through the day. It starts off

down the eastern half of Northern Ireland caused by a low pressure

system. After that we get a break and brighter spells before showers

move in later in the day. The low-pressure system is deep taking

the weather across most of the UK. It tracks across northern

the weather across most of the UK. and up across into the North Sea,

bringing rain to Scotland and northern parts of England and cloud

across the East Coast as well. Warner in the south-east of England,

16 degrees beehive. As we go through the afternoon showers across Ireland

and some of them will be heavy with hail and thunder in the mix. Not the

nicest afternoon by any stretch of the imagination. Into the night goes

showers continue overnight with those of two or three degrees.

Looking at next week it is a mixed bag of whether coming our way.

Tuesday is probably going to be the pick of the next few days. A

brighter day with still some showers around and temperatures not much to

write home about. Wednesday promises to have a bit more in

write home about. Wednesday promises rain. Not the best picture for the

next few days. Tuesday will be the pick of the bunch.
