club turned out to be a stalemate. And that's | :00:00. | :00:07.
Good evening. An investigation has begun into how more than 1,000 fish | :00:08. | :00:13.
were killed in a river near Dungannon. Pollution was discovered | :00:14. | :00:17.
over the weekend in the River Oona, which is a tributary of the | :00:18. | :00:21.
Blackwater. The River Oona is an exceptionally | :00:22. | :00:24.
pretty river, winding its way through the hills of County Tyrone. | :00:25. | :00:29.
It was once a famous trout river. Like all true beauties of the River | :00:30. | :00:32.
Blackwater, it suffered when the river was dredged. It has also | :00:33. | :00:37.
suffered from incidents of pollution. Thankfully, down here | :00:38. | :00:42.
where the river is at its finest, there has been no sign of pollution. | :00:43. | :00:50.
I have seen healthy trout in the water. It is a different story, | :00:51. | :00:54.
however, on the upper reaches of the system, as I found out earlier. My | :00:55. | :00:57.
short walk along the river soon revealed a carpet of dead fish of | :00:58. | :01:04.
varying sizes and ages. The Environment Agency is carrying out | :01:05. | :01:07.
an investigation to try to find the source of the pollution. While it is | :01:08. | :01:12.
at an early stage, initial indications are that it is | :01:13. | :01:17.
agricultural, probably slurry. With upwards of 1,000 fish killed, the | :01:18. | :01:20.
Agency has classified this incident as being of high severity. We have | :01:21. | :01:30.
identified the source, and we are carrying on our usual enforcement | :01:31. | :01:34.
action from that. What we will do over the next few days is get our | :01:35. | :01:38.
specialist biologists to carry out a survey of the ecosystem. The hope | :01:39. | :01:45.
for environmentalists and anglers is that the current low water levels | :01:46. | :01:48.
will help prevent this pollution spreading as far as it otherwise | :01:49. | :01:57.
might have. More than 1,000 people have attended | :01:58. | :02:00.
the funeral of the independent unionist Assembly member David | :02:01. | :02:05.
McClarty. He had been suffering from cancer. | :02:06. | :02:18.
In death, as in life, David McClarty brought people together. Whatever | :02:19. | :02:22.
the divisions that led to him not being selected as an election | :02:23. | :02:25.
candidate, every shade of unionism was represented today. The Deputy | :02:26. | :02:36.
First Minister adds his name to the book of condolence. He was so much | :02:37. | :02:42.
more than a politician. He was a raconteur. He made people laugh. He | :02:43. | :02:45.
sang in the parish choir all of his life. He kept them sane in Stormont. | :02:46. | :02:58.
He was company with the Queen, yet able to deal with everyone. He was | :02:59. | :03:01.
most happy with people who needed help. He was also a family man, one | :03:02. | :03:05.
of 12 children, who leaves behind his wife, Norma, and two sons. Dad | :03:06. | :03:09.
loved Coleraine, but it seems today, Coleraine loves dad just as much. In | :03:10. | :03:19.
his last few months he spoke of his pride in his family. He was a family | :03:20. | :03:29.
man, he didn't need to say it. It was something we already knew. | :03:30. | :03:34.
Today, we are so proud of him. A father and one of the stars of | :03:35. | :03:37.
Northern Ireland politics was laid to rest in Portstewart. | :03:38. | :03:43.
Vandals are being blamed for stealing a mechanical digger from a | :03:44. | :03:46.
construction site in north Belfast and going on a rampage. They damaged | :03:47. | :03:50.
property near the Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey last night. | :03:51. | :03:54.
Fencing and goal posts were broken and sports pitches were damaged. | :03:55. | :03:57.
Trees were smashed around the construction site. An attempt was | :03:58. | :04:01.
also made to break into the site office. | :04:02. | :04:11.
Two men and women are to appear in court charges linked to an incident | :04:12. | :04:16.
in north Belfast this morning. They were arrested after a number of | :04:17. | :04:20.
flags and banners were damaged. One of Northern Ireland's best known | :04:21. | :04:23.
landmarks, Scrabo Tower, is to close for the foreseeable future because | :04:24. | :04:27.
of water damage. The surrounding Country Park will remain open. | :04:28. | :04:33.
It's a majestic monument which has graced the summit of Scrabo Hill for | :04:34. | :04:38.
almost 160 years. But this prominent position has actually caused | :04:39. | :04:43.
problems for Scrabo Tower. Because it has such a spectacular location, | :04:44. | :04:47.
on top of this hill, the tower is very exposed to bad weather. Over | :04:48. | :04:52.
the years, rainwater has seeped in. So the electrical and lighting | :04:53. | :04:55.
system has been damaged, forcing the Environment Agency to close the | :04:56. | :05:00.
tower for the foreseeable future. The Agency says it's spent hundreds | :05:01. | :05:03.
of thousands of pounds over the last 30 years to try to deal with the | :05:04. | :05:07.
issues. And now it's considering seeking specialist advice on | :05:08. | :05:11.
weatherproofing the tower. The landmark was built in 1857 as a | :05:12. | :05:15.
memorial to the third Marquess of Londonderry. These much beloved by | :05:16. | :05:27.
artist and poets. It is an iconic monument. It is identified with art. | :05:28. | :05:37.
This is not the end of that distinguished history. The Tower may | :05:38. | :05:38.
be opened occasionally and visitors will still be able to enjoy the | :05:39. | :05:42.
walks around it. In football, Cliftonville are | :05:43. | :05:44.
celebrating after retaining the Premiership title. They beat | :05:45. | :05:47.
Portadown 2-0. Their nearest challengers Linfield lost. Stephen | :05:48. | :05:54.
Watson reports on a dramatic day. Cliftonville started the day three | :05:55. | :05:57.
points clear of Linfield and with a better goal difference. They knew | :05:58. | :06:05.
that a win should be enough. How important could that be? As they | :06:06. | :06:11.
took a second half lead, in Belfast things were not going well for their | :06:12. | :06:18.
nearest challengers. He may have broken the hearts of Linfield. Back | :06:19. | :06:26.
at Shamrock Park the home side were pushing for an equaliser. | :06:27. | :06:33.
Cliftonville were still feeling the pressure. Soon, they edged another | :06:34. | :06:41.
step closer to glory. Stephen Garrett has scored a second. Within | :06:42. | :06:51.
a few minutes, more good news. That cheer can only signify one thing... | :06:52. | :07:00.
Linfield had fallen further behind. Linfield's title hopes dead and | :07:01. | :07:05.
buried. For the second year in a row, Cliftonville took home the | :07:06. | :07:09.
title. Cliftonville are the 2014 champions. They look after | :07:10. | :07:21.
themselves. They will maybe go on for years to come. Outstanding, a | :07:22. | :07:31.
joy to work with. There are probably another seven or eight who could get | :07:32. | :07:38.
in the team. It was hard to defend it. I am delighted. Championees! | :07:39. | :07:46.
The former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has tonight criticised his | :07:47. | :07:49.
old club for sacking David Moyes. The Republic's assistant manager | :07:50. | :07:52.
said that Moyes deserved more time and had been let down by the | :07:53. | :07:57.
players. When he took the job I think the Chief Executive did not | :07:58. | :08:02.
get the deals done that he wanted, a lot of negativity, I think it is a | :08:03. | :08:07.
shame, I think he should have been given more time. I think Manchester | :08:08. | :08:12.
United should be ashamed of themselves. | :08:13. | :08:14.
Looking ahead to a story we have across TV, radio and online | :08:15. | :08:17.
tomorrow, we speak to a former IRA member who raises questions about | :08:18. | :08:20.
Gerry Adams' claim that he was never in the IRA. An exclusive interview | :08:21. | :08:23.
on BBC News Northern Ireland starting on the Good Morning Ulster | :08:24. | :08:25.
programme. There is some more rain in the | :08:26. | :08:36.
forecast but that means it will also be mild. None of it will be | :08:37. | :08:44.
particularly heavy, more damp than anything else. We are expecting some | :08:45. | :08:49.
more showers tomorrow so you have to keep your umbrella handy, especially | :08:50. | :08:53.
through the morning but the second half of the day will bring drier and | :08:54. | :08:58.
brighter weather. Tomorrow morning it is cloudy with showery rain. It | :08:59. | :09:03.
will probably feel quite cool. The worst of the range should be | :09:04. | :09:06.
cleaning away from the north coast by midday. It is a band of rain | :09:07. | :09:13.
which slowly goes into south-west Scotland and into Wales and | :09:14. | :09:16.
south-west England. It will be a slow process but it will gradually | :09:17. | :09:22.
move eastwards across many areas of Britain. It lightens up across the | :09:23. | :09:28.
Republic of Ireland, temperatures reaching 16 degrees -- brightens. | :09:29. | :09:37.
Tomorrow there will be some dry weather and sunshine and it will | :09:38. | :09:39.
feel warm, but there will be the chance of one or two might heavy | :09:40. | :09:44.
showers and maybe even a rumble of thunder. The showers will die away | :09:45. | :09:48.
tomorrow night to leave drier weather on Thursday. Some sunshine | :09:49. | :09:54.
and quite warm when the sun comes out with temperatures in the mid | :09:55. | :09:59.
teens. Friday should bring dry and bright weather. The rain is back on | :10:00. | :10:06.
Saturday and with it a drop in temperature. Goodnight. | :10:07. | :10:07. |
