Good evening. Tributes have been paid to the road racer Simon Andrews

:00:09.:00:12.

who crashed at the NorthWest 200 and died today. The 31-year-old from

:00:13.:00:18.

Worcestershire in England crashed during the Superstock race on

:00:19.:00:21.

Saturday and was airlifted to hospital. Tonight his family said

:00:22.:00:24.

"Racing was in his blood." Martin Cassidy reports.

:00:25.:00:33.

Simon Andrews had only recently returned to top-class competition

:00:34.:00:35.

following a serious injury well taking place in another

:00:36.:00:41.

international motorcycling event. His BMW machine is pictured here at

:00:42.:00:44.

the start of the Superstock race at the North West 200 on Saturday. The

:00:45.:00:48.

31 euros from Worcestershire crashed on the approach to this corner on

:00:49.:00:56.

lap four of the race. No other riders were involved. After medical

:00:57.:01:00.

care at the track-side, the rider was airlifted to the intensive care

:01:01.:01:04.

unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, where he died today with his

:01:05.:01:09.

parents, girlfriend, and best friend by his bed. We are devastated. Our

:01:10.:01:14.

hearts are broken, they are shattered. Simon loved his racing.

:01:15.:01:18.

You love the North West, he loved racing over a year. He wouldn't have

:01:19.:01:24.

changed anything. If we had tried to stop him, he wouldn't have stopped

:01:25.:01:28.

racing. He loved the people, he loved the atmosphere, he loved every

:01:29.:01:33.

single moment. Tonight the world of motorcycle racing has been paying

:01:34.:01:37.

tribute to Simon Andrews. Veteran racer Jeremy McWilliams has tweeted

:01:38.:01:42.

he is very sorry to hear the terrible news. World Superbike racer

:01:43.:01:49.

Jonathan Bray said such sad news hearing that Simon Andrews has

:01:50.:01:59.

passed away. Gone away too soon. Mervyn Whyte says the circumstances

:02:00.:02:02.

of the crash will be fully investigated. We have worked and

:02:03.:02:07.

worked and worked on safety over the years, and we will continue to do

:02:08.:02:10.

that. That is uppermost in our minds. Safety is a priority for your

:02:11.:02:16.

competitors and your spectators. We will certainly look and see what

:02:17.:02:18.

happened at that particular occasion, but now is not the time to

:02:19.:02:24.

look at where we are, but to move forward and see what we do in the

:02:25.:02:29.

future his parents said Simon was fully aware of the dangers involved,

:02:30.:02:34.

but loved the challenge of rogue racing. You never expect you're

:02:35.:02:39.

going to lose your son, watch you can't stop a grown man doing what he

:02:40.:02:43.

wants. It seems to be in the blood, it is an adrenaline race, and they

:02:44.:02:49.

just love being on motorcycles. But they know the risks, and we paid the

:02:50.:02:56.

price. Another racer at the North West 200, Franck Petricola is still

:02:57.:03:01.

critically ill in hospital. The Frenchman was hurt during a practice

:03:02.:03:09.

session last Tuesday. The County Down rider Michael

:03:10.:03:12.

Pearson is seriously injured after a crash in the Czech Republic

:03:13.:03:14.

yesterday. The Ballygowan man was taking part in a superbike event.

:03:15.:03:18.

And many BBC Newsline viewers have been logging onto our Facebook Page

:03:19.:03:21.

with some adding messages of sympathy following the death of

:03:22.:03:24.

Simon Andrews. The fisherman who was rescued off

:03:25.:03:27.

the coast in County Donegal yesterday has been released from

:03:28.:03:32.

hospital. A man on land half a mile away heard him cry for help as he

:03:33.:03:36.

held onto a lobster buoy and the emergency services were alerted. He

:03:37.:03:41.

was picked up by an RNLI crew and brought ashore. Earlier today Our

:03:42.:03:45.

North West reporter Keiron Tourish went to Tullagh Bay.

:03:46.:03:53.

By any stretch of the imagination, this was quite a remarkable turn of

:03:54.:04:00.

events yesterday afternoon about 2pm. A local fisherman was out

:04:01.:04:05.

tending his lobster pots, when he got into difficulty. This story

:04:06.:04:10.

could easily have turned to tragedy, but for the heroics of one local

:04:11.:04:15.

family. John Grant, what actually happened? We were on the house

:04:16.:04:19.

working with sheep, and we thought we could somebody shouting for

:04:20.:04:23.

help. We couldn't really make it out, it was really think. My mum

:04:24.:04:28.

told me to come down on the quad and have a look. I came down and I

:04:29.:04:32.

couldn't see anything, and I asked a couple people if they had heard

:04:33.:04:36.

anything and they said no. I looked again and scanned across the water,

:04:37.:04:39.

and I could see a black dot echoing the distance, and I could see an arm

:04:40.:04:45.

waving, and I knew there was somebody in trouble out there, and I

:04:46.:04:48.

had no phone with me so I came back up and said to my mum, there is

:04:49.:04:53.

somebody out there in trouble. And that is where you came into play.

:04:54.:04:59.

What happened next? , well, when John gave me the signal, I rang

:05:00.:05:04.

because guard and the doctor need to everything. They dispatched to

:05:05.:05:07.

lifeboats and a helicopter from Sligo, and luckily enough, there was

:05:08.:05:14.

a bolt out on a fishing trip, and the responded straightaway. I stood

:05:15.:05:18.

up on the quad and I guided the boat to where the man was in the water.

:05:19.:05:26.

We were on scene about three or four minutes later and cruel -- crew had

:05:27.:05:32.

boarded the vessel. Then we were treating him for first aid, for

:05:33.:05:37.

hypothermia. And the helicopter had landed on scene. The helicopter

:05:38.:05:42.

paramedic had then come down and we had already transferred because of

:05:43.:05:45.

the two-hour board. It could have gone to ways, but thankfully it went

:05:46.:05:52.

in our favour. Quite a dramatic operation, and quicker magic that is

:05:53.:05:56.

we have seen today. It was, but at the time you did not think of

:05:57.:06:00.

dramatics at all, you were just glad that the man in the water was being

:06:01.:06:04.

saved. Thank God it had a happy outcome. There is a wife and four

:06:05.:06:13.

children who still have a father. The US financial services firm,

:06:14.:06:16.

Citigroup, is set to announce a significant investment in its

:06:17.:06:18.

Belfast operation. Industry sources have told the BBC that the firm is

:06:19.:06:21.

expected to shortly announce at least one hundred new jobs. The

:06:22.:06:24.

company employs about thirteen hundred people at two offices in the

:06:25.:06:27.

Titanic Quarter, working mainly in technology and compliance.

:06:28.:06:33.

The police have set up a dedicated phone line for reporting hate crime.

:06:34.:06:37.

The recent spate of racist attacks has led to the move. The police will

:06:38.:06:41.

be able to translate calls into almost 50 languages. The new service

:06:42.:06:45.

can be contacted through the non emergency 101 number. We are trying

:06:46.:06:56.

to encourage as many victims as possible to feel comfortable enough

:06:57.:07:00.

to contact the police service and tellers of these incidents so that

:07:01.:07:03.

we can deal with them effectively. We are not going to arrest anybody,

:07:04.:07:09.

because we know that this is an issue that a new Northern Ireland is

:07:10.:07:15.

going to have to get to grips with. I think this is good for anybody who

:07:16.:07:22.

has witnessed hate crime, it is good to encourage anybody who has been a

:07:23.:07:26.

witness to contact the police, although we can't lose concentration

:07:27.:07:29.

on the fact that this has been an ongoing issue for many years, and it

:07:30.:07:32.

needs to be an issue that is looked at any very strategic and joined up

:07:33.:07:37.

way. We can't rely on the helpline to solve the problem or the issue.

:07:38.:07:39.

Looking ahead to some special reports starting tomorrow on BBC

:07:40.:07:42.

News. Our reporter Andy West spent four days and nights living rough on

:07:43.:07:46.

the streets of Belfast to discover a little of what it's like to be

:07:47.:07:50.

homeless. That first report is on BBC Newsline tomorrow evening at

:07:51.:07:55.

6.30pm. Funny how different the world looks from down here.

:07:56.:07:59.

Completely different view on the world is passing by. It's also funny

:08:00.:08:04.

how people, almost all people, do exactly the same thing when they

:08:05.:08:08.

walk past. They look at you and then instantly look away. Andy will also

:08:09.:08:13.

be talking about his experience on the radio on Good Morning Ulster and

:08:14.:08:16.

his diary is on our News Online site.

:08:17.:08:17.

The weather is next with Barra Best. It got quite exciting earlier as we

:08:18.:08:29.

have the thunderstorms moving in. We may get some more thunderstorms in

:08:30.:08:33.

the next few hours. But generally it will come down over the course of

:08:34.:08:38.

the night, and we will have a lot of cloud around, so not so-called.

:08:39.:08:43.

Temperatures of 11 or 12 Celsius. Low pressure is in control, and that

:08:44.:08:47.

means it will be quite unsettled. A rather Bray and cloudy day

:08:48.:08:53.

tomorrow. Not raining all day, but we will see some outbreaks coming in

:08:54.:08:56.

from the Irish Sea. There will be the odd rumble of thunder too, and

:08:57.:09:01.

some quite heavy downpours, so do prepare yourself a few are out and

:09:02.:09:06.

about. It will be an unsettled night across the Northern Ireland, and

:09:07.:09:11.

also into Wales to. Any unsettled weather for eastern areas of England

:09:12.:09:15.

will gradually die away, and here we have temperatures getting up into

:09:16.:09:20.

the low 20s, and not a bad day for Scotland as well. Although generally

:09:21.:09:24.

cooler. Some of the showers we get across Britain tomorrow may well be

:09:25.:09:28.

heavy with some thunder too, so something to bear in mind. Out and

:09:29.:09:33.

about tomorrow, it will not be raining all day, there will be some

:09:34.:09:36.

drier weather too, and it will be a bit mitre -- milder. We will see

:09:37.:09:43.

tempter is nudging up to 17 Celsius. Some good news as we head towards

:09:44.:09:47.

the middle of the week, things will settle down, especially for central

:09:48.:09:51.

and eastern areas. We will keep you updated the and on twitter. That's

:09:52.:09:57.

all for now. Good night. Let's look at the history

:09:58.:10:00.

of BBC TWO with me, Simon Schama. 'Harry And Paul's

:10:01.:10:04.

Story Of The 2s - part of 'the Big Bumper Bank Holiday

:10:05.:10:10.

Comedy 50th Birthday Weekend.'
