That's all from the BBC News at Six, so it's goodbye from me, | :00:00. | :00:15.
We've always been family, says Peter Robinson - | :00:16. | :00:19.

What is happening in the industry at the moment? I am here to find out. | :00:54. | :01:03.
The waiting is almost over for this year's Ryder Cup and Rory McIlroy is | :01:04. | :01:07.
named as one of the first pairs in action tomorrow. | :01:08. | :01:08.
And a bit more wind and rain for a time tonight, | :01:09. | :01:11.
The First Minister Peter Robinson took a swipe | :01:12. | :01:19.
at critics within his own party today, describing them as ?lemmings? | :01:20. | :01:21.
The comments follow yesterday's chain of events where | :01:22. | :01:28.
the former Health Minister Edwin Poots claimed Mr Robinson was going | :01:29. | :01:34.
to stand down ahead of the next Assembly elections. | :01:35. | :01:36.
Late this afternoon, a series of DUP MPs and MLAs have backed | :01:37. | :01:41.
Our political correspondent Gareth Gordon has the latest. | :01:42. | :01:57.
This was Peter Robinson, the First Minister, on his way to another job | :01:58. | :02:06.
announcement. But today, there was also Peter Robinson, the DUP | :02:07. | :02:12.
leader. There are some people so puffed up by their own importance, | :02:13. | :02:17.
people have the strategic vision of a lemming, and we have to deal with | :02:18. | :02:22.
those people. They won't take us off course, it is very clear where the | :02:23. | :02:26.
party's direction is, and the party has choices to make. It can follow | :02:27. | :02:33.
people down a road to destruction him a division within the party, and | :02:34. | :02:36.
the consequences which will be paid for that, or they can move ahead. Do | :02:37. | :02:42.
what we said in her election commitments of taking Northern | :02:43. | :02:44.
Ireland forward, that is a clear choice. I can't stop people from | :02:45. | :02:49.
making comments, all I can do is continue to raise issues with the | :02:50. | :02:54.
party officers. They have indicated their support for the strategy I | :02:55. | :02:57.
have outlined and we will see what the people have to say. He wouldn't | :02:58. | :03:06.
name names, so who can? Who is he talking about? It could be Edwin | :03:07. | :03:12.
Poots who lost his job as Health Minister today and was slapped down | :03:13. | :03:16.
after saying Mr Robinson would be gone in as leader within months. Or | :03:17. | :03:24.
then it could be the agricultural committee boss who was left behind. | :03:25. | :03:30.
Or it could be Paul given. It could be a number of people, trying to | :03:31. | :03:37.
whisper behind backs. The party will deal with them. Are you saying there | :03:38. | :03:42.
will be disciplinary action? I don't think there is anything I have said | :03:43. | :03:47.
which isn't sufficiently clear. What did one of the DUP's newest | :03:48. | :03:57.
ministers think? I think they made a mistake. Ignorance is bliss. | :03:58. | :04:03.
Colleagues were not so shy in what seems to be a campaign in a twitter | :04:04. | :04:19.
support. They were joined by Mr puts -- Mr Poots, and even used similar | :04:20. | :04:33.
language to a mandate to lead. They have laid bare internal strife and a | :04:34. | :04:38.
party that is often declared to be one big happy family, but he may | :04:39. | :04:44.
have pulled a masterstroke by putting down a rebellion quickly. | :04:45. | :04:50.
This is him leaving a meeting this afternoon. Were you happy about the | :04:51. | :04:57.
tweets he didn't say. Perhaps he thought he set enough. | :04:58. | :04:59.
Let's discuss this now with our political editor Mark Devenport, | :05:00. | :05:01.
Certainly Peter Robinson has acted in a fairly strong way today, both | :05:02. | :05:14.
in his language and earlier this week with moving ahead with his | :05:15. | :05:18.
reshuffle, when he targeted people who seem to be critical of him in | :05:19. | :05:22.
internal meetings. This tactic of taking to social media, to Twitter, | :05:23. | :05:27.
to pledge your loyalty to the leader, it has been subject to some | :05:28. | :05:32.
derision from other parties, but it has been an effective demonstration | :05:33. | :05:36.
of the white range of support he has got, so as the week comes to a | :05:37. | :05:42.
close, he seems to have won this fight. There is always grumbling, | :05:43. | :05:43.
but he seems to be on top. The Executive met today with | :05:44. | :05:45.
the Finance Minister, saying it urgently needs to take | :05:46. | :05:48.
action over spending cuts. No, there was no formal vote taken | :05:49. | :06:00.
and no decisions made. I gather that Executive ministers discussed the | :06:01. | :06:05.
matter of the two million pounds savings they have to make, but the | :06:06. | :06:10.
Justice Minister was quite exasperated when he came out because | :06:11. | :06:16.
he felt this matter of dealing with this can no longer be postponed. | :06:17. | :06:21.
There was no agreement to where we are going. We have pushed the fact | :06:22. | :06:28.
that the Executive needs to live up to the resource abilities that | :06:29. | :06:31.
people gave us, but there is no willingness around the table to be | :06:32. | :06:37.
realistic about making things better for the people of Northern Ireland. | :06:38. | :06:38.
Sinn Fein didn't say anything after the meeting? | :06:39. | :06:42.
Not on the way out of the meeting, they left without making any | :06:43. | :06:48.
comment, that earlier in the day on the fringes of that job | :06:49. | :06:52.
announcement, Martin McGuinness did say that essentially he blames the | :06:53. | :06:58.
British Government for putting the Executive in an unreasonable | :06:59. | :07:04.
position. He said signing off on the changes to welfare reform was not | :07:05. | :07:09.
the way to go, and essentially Sinn Fein is saying they want to | :07:10. | :07:11.
negotiate it out with the British Government, but there is real | :07:12. | :07:16.
nervousness on the part of civil servants who don't want to sign off | :07:17. | :07:19.
on budgets or to assure the treasury that they will meet spending | :07:20. | :07:23.
controls when they can see they are on course to crash there is those | :07:24. | :07:26.
pending limits. -- spending limits. The leader of the UK Independence | :07:27. | :07:34.
Party Nigel Farage has said MPs from Northern Ireland should not vote | :07:35. | :07:37.
on matters which concern England. Mr Farage's party conference | :07:38. | :07:40.
begins tomorrow. There's been much political debate | :07:41. | :07:41.
about the shape of devolution across the UK after the Scottish | :07:42. | :07:43.
independence referendum. The UKIP leader has already said | :07:44. | :07:45.
Scottish MPs should refrain He told | :07:46. | :07:48.
our political reporter Stephen Walker that the same principle | :07:49. | :07:52.
should apply to MPs from here. Logically, we are going to have to | :07:53. | :08:04.
talk to Northern Ireland and to Wales about that same situation. We | :08:05. | :08:08.
cannot go on with a situation where English people now pay tuition fees | :08:09. | :08:16.
because the Westminster party, with the majority of Scottish MPs, voted | :08:17. | :08:20.
for it. It is not right and not fair. We need a completely new | :08:21. | :08:23.
constitutional adamant. I don't believe that can be put together in | :08:24. | :08:27.
the course of a few weeks in a private committee room. I want us to | :08:28. | :08:33.
have a UK constitutional event to talk it out. You're making a 2-tier | :08:34. | :08:40.
Parliament. That is true. We could make a extra layer with 500 extra | :08:41. | :08:47.
ministers, but I don't think there's any demand for that. We have a fair | :08:48. | :08:51.
deal between England and Scotland. That is where the tension is, that | :08:52. | :08:54.
is what needs to be sorted. Everything needs to be on the table. | :08:55. | :08:57.
When Maxim people would say that you are not behaving like a unionist. -- | :08:58. | :09:05.
some people would say. England would break away, and say that it is | :09:06. | :09:11.
enough. We need to have devolution that works for everyone. | :09:12. | :09:13.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested following the death of a young woman | :09:14. | :09:16.
The 19-year-old medical student, who's from the Ards Peninsula, | :09:17. | :09:19.
was found unconscious in a flat in Cromore Gardens in the Creggan | :09:20. | :09:22.
The police say they are investigating the circumstances. | :09:23. | :09:30.
Police are trying to establish her movement and say she took a taxi | :09:31. | :09:37.
with friends at one ATM. -- one a M. | :09:38. | :09:39.
The family of a pensioner who died after being beaten on | :09:40. | :09:41.
a night out have called for reform of victims services here, after one | :09:42. | :09:44.
of them they drove past the man who was jailed for the killing. | :09:45. | :09:48.
They were unaware he had been let out of prison. | :09:49. | :09:51.
At the moment, victims of crime in Northern Ireland have to opt in | :09:52. | :09:54.
to the system to be kept informed, even though elsewhere in the UK | :09:55. | :09:57.
Jim, seen here at a family wedding, was beaten so badly that he spent | :09:58. | :10:08.
ten days in a coma before dying from his injuries. A man pleaded guilty | :10:09. | :10:12.
to manslaughter and was jailed for three years, but the devastated by | :10:13. | :10:17.
the death, the family didn't realise at the time they would have to fill | :10:18. | :10:22.
out a form to be informed about any developments with the attacker. They | :10:23. | :10:26.
only recently found out he was allowed out of the jail on a form of | :10:27. | :10:31.
the release. My son was on a street in town and was in a van and the man | :10:32. | :10:42.
walked past him. We were annoyed that nobody ever thought of | :10:43. | :10:46.
contacting us, or let us know, or prepare us. So I can warn my sisters | :10:47. | :10:57.
and daughters, my family. How are we going to react if we do see him? If | :10:58. | :11:03.
one of us bumped into him in town... I don't know. | :11:04. | :11:09.
In England and Wales, people are automatically registered. We have | :11:10. | :11:18.
already said that this hampers the board. The board said they | :11:19. | :11:26.
understand this, and are committed to working with the victims. | :11:27. | :11:34.
The family were already very disappointed with the criminal | :11:35. | :11:38.
justice system. The police disciplined seven officers and | :11:39. | :11:44.
involved in the initial investigation when they had said he | :11:45. | :11:49.
had simply fallen, that he hadn't been attacked. The victims charter | :11:50. | :11:52.
that is with the justice committee at the moment should be in place by | :11:53. | :11:56.
the end of this Assembly term, but that is too little, too late for | :11:57. | :11:58.
Dissident republicans in Maghaberry Prison have asked | :11:59. | :12:04.
the prison authorities to implement wide ranging changes they say will | :12:05. | :12:06.
31 prisoners aligned to the group referred to as the New IRA | :12:07. | :12:11.
want security measures relaxed and improved facilities for visits. | :12:12. | :12:16.
The proposed changes are being opposed by the outgoing chairman | :12:17. | :12:19.
of the justice committee, the DUP's Paul Givan. | :12:20. | :12:23.
Our home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney reports. | :12:24. | :12:27.
Tensions and disputes between republican prisoners and the | :12:28. | :12:29.
There are currently around 50 dissident republicans being held | :12:30. | :12:35.
The majority of them are aligned to the group | :12:36. | :12:39.
The group has accused the prison service of breaking | :12:40. | :12:44.
the terms of an agreement to relax security - and have sent the | :12:45. | :12:47.
authorities a document containing a wide range of proposed changes. | :12:48. | :12:52.
The BBC has obtained a copy of the 14 page paper, | :12:53. | :12:55.
In a section dealing with security issues, | :12:56. | :13:00.
That's angered the DUP's Paul Givan, who raised the issue with | :13:01. | :13:15.
Justice Minister David Ford before it was announced that he's | :13:16. | :13:19.
being replaced as chairman of the Justice Committee. | :13:20. | :13:25.
These proposals that are publicans are after is to remove any presence | :13:26. | :13:31.
of security staffer from their landings to avoid them ever being | :13:32. | :13:36.
locked up at any point within the facilities. This is a return back to | :13:37. | :13:41.
the Amaze and some fear it would be worse that. These are very real | :13:42. | :13:46.
concerns that the staff or relating to me and I have already met with | :13:47. | :13:49.
the Justice Minister and made it clear to him that there should be | :13:50. | :13:54.
these concessions made to Republic terrorists. -- Republican | :13:55. | :13:55.
terrorists. The document also calls | :13:56. | :13:55.
for an overhaul of arrangements I visited Maghaberry yesterday | :13:56. | :13:58.
and spent an hour speaking to a Veteran republican | :13:59. | :14:13.
Harry Fitzsimons is on remand with two other prominent | :14:14. | :14:18.
dissidents, including Colin Duffy, charged with attempting to murder | :14:19. | :14:22.
members of the security forces. He told me the document is not | :14:23. | :14:27.
a threat or an ultimatum, but an attempt to reduce | :14:28. | :14:30.
tensions and conflict He quoted from a number | :14:31. | :14:32.
of inspection reports. Those reports described | :14:33. | :14:36.
the controls on movement within the He said that, | :14:37. | :14:38.
as far as the prisoners are concerned, the system is not about | :14:39. | :14:44.
security but lowering their morale. Sources close to | :14:45. | :14:49.
the prison officers association They said those held | :14:50. | :14:52.
in the dissident wing are highly dangerous, and that controls | :14:53. | :14:57.
on movement are essential. In a statement, | :14:58. | :15:02.
the Prison Service said senior staff talk to prisoners on a regular basis | :15:03. | :15:04.
to discuss a range of issues. It said a review | :15:05. | :15:09.
of the implementation of the agreement reached in August | :15:10. | :15:13.
2010, which the prisons say should have resulted in a relaxation | :15:14. | :15:16.
in security, is currently being carried out and a report is expected | :15:17. | :15:19.
at the end of this month. A look at today's other news to -- | :15:20. | :15:40.
now. Two men have been arrested over the murder of a man and many years | :15:41. | :15:46.
ago. He was found killed in 1999. Police believe he may have been | :15:47. | :15:50.
deliberately struck by a car. In the 1980s, Ayman Collins retracted his | :15:51. | :15:57.
statement against alleged IRA members. | :15:58. | :15:58.
The estimated number of school-age children with some form of autism | :15:59. | :16:01.
in Northern Ireland has risen by 67%, according to the latest | :16:02. | :16:04.
A report says the number of autistic children has increased to nearly | :16:05. | :16:07.
Boys are almost five times more likely to be affected | :16:08. | :16:16.
The report says that the highest prevalence rates are | :16:17. | :16:19.
among children in both the least and most deprived areas. | :16:20. | :16:23.
An IT company is creating 50 jobs with an expansion of its office | :16:24. | :16:27.

A farm business has been found not guilty of animal cruelty in a court | :17:04. | :17:07.
case brought by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. | :17:08. | :17:10.
A USPCA surveillance operation last March recorded a stag being brought | :17:11. | :17:14.
from Ballycrune Farm in County Down to a location near Katesbridge. | :17:15. | :17:20.
There, it was held for several days before being | :17:21. | :17:22.
Now a magistrate has ruled that he could not be satisfied | :17:23. | :17:27.
beyond reasonable doubt that the animal had actually suffered. | :17:28. | :17:34.
Falling beef, pig and milk prices are having a serious | :17:35. | :17:38.
Coupled with EU restrictions, agriculture, one of our most | :17:39. | :17:43.
important industries, is trying to work through its difficulties. | :17:44. | :17:47.
But Donna went to County Down this afternoon and discovered | :17:48. | :17:51.
Farmers are loving that the dry weather we have had recently. Great | :17:52. | :18:07.
time for harvesting. With your farmers Union hat on, the state of | :18:08. | :18:15.
the Northern Ireland agricultural industry, who is having the most | :18:16. | :18:18.
difficulty? If you look at the industry, prices | :18:19. | :18:23.
are an issue in all sectors. We have seen prices rise and fall in every | :18:24. | :18:29.
sector and the one that has taken the biggest take this year is the | :18:30. | :18:36.
beef sector. There are major problems there. We do have issues | :18:37. | :18:41.
around the dairy sector as well since the ban of European a product | :18:42. | :18:46.
going into Russia, there are issues there as well, but huge pressures | :18:47. | :18:49.
coming on from the major retailers on our vegetable and potato sectors. | :18:50. | :18:55.
Anything that can be done to help the farmers at the store mid-level | :18:56. | :19:03.
-- Stormont level? We're dealing with situation here and sometimes | :19:04. | :19:08.
you think what is happening here maybe doesn't have a major impact | :19:09. | :19:12.
throughout the world, but I think the local executive certainly have | :19:13. | :19:19.
given their backing to the local industry with their strategy report | :19:20. | :19:25.
and given the right signals from our retailers would certainly respond. | :19:26. | :19:32.
Why stay in such an unpredictable business? Briley, once a farmer, | :19:33. | :19:40.
always a farmer. You do have all situations to deal with. The weather | :19:41. | :19:44.
is one of the main ones. If you can't cope with the weather, don't | :19:45. | :19:49.
be a farmer. The recent dry weather, we have actually had 10% last | :19:50. | :19:51.
rainfall than usual. Our weather presenter Geoff Maskell | :19:52. | :19:57.
has been looking at the effects What a difference a month can make. | :19:58. | :20:08.
The last time I was here, the weather wasn't quite so kind to us. | :20:09. | :20:15.
I was here to meet in agricultural student and the rain just kept | :20:16. | :20:20.
coming down. That was back in August when it rained two days out of | :20:21. | :20:26.
three. One of the wettest summer month on record, with 44% more rain | :20:27. | :20:31.
than usual. When you get good weather, things flow much smoother. | :20:32. | :20:36.
You find yourself catching up on your jobs and getting ahead. There | :20:37. | :20:42.
are a big list of dry weather jobs and a small list of the wet weather | :20:43. | :20:47.
jobs, but there is a point where it gets too dry. You are not telling me | :20:48. | :20:52.
you want some rain? You always want what you can't have. Never | :20:53. | :21:00.
satisfied, but the high street has seen the good weather cause | :21:01. | :21:05.
confusion for retailers. We had lovely weather last week and we are | :21:06. | :21:11.
hoping for the comeback. The news forecast that it would be nice | :21:12. | :21:13.
though I will still wear my summer wardrobe. The jumpers are the first | :21:14. | :21:21.
thing to go, although it is mid-September and still quite warm. | :21:22. | :21:29.
Although some jumpers are bucking the trend. The dry September means | :21:30. | :21:33.
there is certainly more colour around. Everything has lasted far, | :21:34. | :21:36.
far longer because we haven't had the bad weather, the rain, the wind | :21:37. | :21:41.
and all the usual stuff. It is down to the fact that people have been | :21:42. | :21:44.
able to go out into their gardens and look after their plans, all of | :21:45. | :21:48.
the bedding plants that would have normally been knocked away with | :21:49. | :22:01.
rain, they are still here. There are no concerns about supplies of water | :22:02. | :22:05.
even though there is good weather. There are no signs of restrictions | :22:06. | :22:12.
anytime soon. The farmer on this land is hoping | :22:13. | :22:16.
that the dry spell will continue for at least a fortnight to help with | :22:17. | :22:21.
the solving. One thing is for sure, whatever the weather, the business | :22:22. | :22:23.
of farming never stands still. Now sport, | :22:24. | :22:26.
and the build-up is almost over and Stephen Watson is live at Gleneagles | :22:27. | :22:28.
in Scotland. The opening ceremony has just | :22:29. | :22:34.
finished and we do now who will play in the first set of matches | :22:35. | :22:39.
in the morning. The main event will see world number | :22:40. | :22:41.
one Rory McIlroy will partner Spaniard Sergio Garcia for Europe in | :22:42. | :22:44.
the final game against American's Phil made comments yesterday about | :22:45. | :22:59.
McElroy's relationship with Graham, he had a bit of a slave, so it could | :23:00. | :23:02.
be an interesting play. Graeme McDowell will sit out | :23:03. | :23:05.
the morning's play. Lining up for Ryder Cup battle with | :23:06. | :23:08.
a traditional Scottish welcome for A proud moment | :23:09. | :23:10.
for the first ever Irish captain, who enjoyed introducing his two | :23:11. | :23:15.
of his team in particular. From an Northern Ireland, Graeme | :23:16. | :23:32.
McDowell. Royal McElroy's Rory McIlroy. | :23:33. | :23:34.
McIlroy and McDowell won't be a double act on this occasion, as | :23:35. | :23:37.
Their determination to win tomorrow's game | :23:38. | :23:40.
against their American opponents was obvious after comments by | :23:41. | :23:42.
Phil Mickelson about McIlroy?s relationship with McDowell. | :23:43. | :23:49.
Sergio and Rory, who formed a real blonde and friendship, and respect | :23:50. | :23:54.
each other 's games during the summer period, they are the players | :23:55. | :24:00.
and they complement each other. They'd enjoy each other. They'd | :24:01. | :24:03.
enjoy each other's company. It was a natural fit. | :24:04. | :24:04.
There's a big Irish influence to Paul McGinley's back room team. | :24:05. | :24:06.
Multiple major winner Padraig Harrington and former Ryder cup | :24:07. | :24:08.
I am not a player, so I have to make sure I take that step back and I am | :24:09. | :24:22.
excited about how the week will go. It really is, as much as I have been | :24:23. | :24:28.
had many cups before, this is different. When you have the number | :24:29. | :24:33.
one player on your team, it is fantastic. But with 12 great | :24:34. | :24:37.
players, they are jelling fantastically well and Rory is a | :24:38. | :24:42.
special player. We all know that Graham is hard, he is also a special | :24:43. | :24:48.
player and you know when the heat comes on, these guys will stand up. | :24:49. | :24:50.
And helping get the all-important course ready the players is | :24:51. | :24:52.
The back I used to play here in 94, so to be asked back again, it was | :24:53. | :25:11.
something else. I jumped at the chance. It doesn't get much bigger | :25:12. | :25:17.
than this. The whole place is buzzing and as you can see, the | :25:18. | :25:21.
course is great and it will just get better. Up to Rory and Graham to do | :25:22. | :25:24.
their stuff. McIlroy tees | :25:25. | :25:26.
off the final match tomorrow morning McDowell is expected to be action | :25:27. | :25:28.
with Frenchman Victor Dubuisson And McElroy tees off at 8:20am | :25:29. | :25:45.
tomorrow. I can hardly wait. I am sure. | :25:46. | :25:49.
And now for the weather, will the farmers be happy or sad? | :25:50. | :25:58.
Well, more dry weather. This was the scene along the coast this morning, | :25:59. | :26:12.
with low cloud here. The cloud did break in some spots, and when it did | :26:13. | :26:18.
break, it was quite a warm afternoon. Out a lot of brightness | :26:19. | :26:23.
to end the day, but apart from the odd shower, it is mainly dry. We | :26:24. | :26:28.
have a change overnight, with a weather front moving in from the | :26:29. | :26:32.
west. You can see the white lines, quite a few of them there, that is | :26:33. | :26:39.
showing gusty wind. It will bring a narrow band of rain through, | :26:40. | :26:42.
probably clearing by the time we get to tomorrow. Him behind, we get some | :26:43. | :26:47.
temperature no lower than nine degrees Celsius. Into tomorrow, a | :26:48. | :26:53.
much more promising day. It will be brighter. The gusty wind eases a | :26:54. | :26:57.
little bit, but it will still be breezy around the coast. A very | :26:58. | :27:00.
different start to the day tomorrow I'm not the gloom, we will have | :27:01. | :27:07.
sunshine. There may be some patchy clouds throughout the day, but some | :27:08. | :27:11.
decent spells of sunshine. All of us will have that westerly breeze, | :27:12. | :27:16.
which will make it feel fresher with temperatures between 14 and 16 | :27:17. | :27:20.
Celsius. Tomorrow evening, a cooler but the brighter evening. It looks | :27:21. | :27:26.
like it will be a cool night tomorrow night with temperatures | :27:27. | :27:29.
settling at around seven Celsius. Burrell spots could be lower than | :27:30. | :27:37.
that. -- rural. It seems to be mainly dry. | :27:38. | :27:44.
Enjoy your evening. We will | :27:45. | :27:46. |
