The DUP Leader Arlene Foster has said she will not be attending any

events to commemorate the Easter Rising.

She was speaking as she prepares to take over formally

as First Minister at Stormont tomorrow.

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA told Radio Ulster's The Sunday News

Programme, that it would not be right for her to go to any

commemorations of the event.

Easter 1916 was a very violent attack on the state.

It wasn't just an attack on the state, but an attack

against democracy at that time and anyone that knows me knows that

I believe in democracy and I believe in the democratic will,

and therefore, I do not believe it would be right for me to go

and commemorate such an occasion.

A man's in a critical condition in hospital after being assaulted

in Toome early this morning.

The police have closed off the Hillhead Road between Toome

and Magherafelt as part of their investigation

into what happened.

There are long tailbacks in both directions.

It's understood the man is being treated in the Royal

Victoria Hospital for a head injury.

The six-year-old girl who died following a crash near Newry

yesterday morning was Ella Trainor from Hilltown.

The collision happened on the Hilltown Road.

Two women, aged 24 and 42, were taken to Daisy Hill Hospital

for treatment to their injuries.

A man in his sixties is recovering after being hit by a train

at a railway crossing on the outskirts of Belfast.

It happened at Finaghy Rail Halt at around 11:20pm last night.

He suffered a serious arm injury and is said to be in a stable

condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Two teenagers have been charged in connection with an incident

in west Belfast in which a car collided with two police vehicles.

Four police officers were injured in the two separate collisions,

first in Caffery Avenue and then the Whiterock Road,

on Friday night.

A 19-year-old man and a boy, aged 16, have been charged with six

counts of aggravated vehicle taking.

They're due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

A woman in her thirties has been left shaken after her car

was hijacked by four men on the outskirts of west Belfast.

It happened in Glasvey Rise in Twinbrook just before

11pm last night.

The woman was sitting in the vehicle when the men climbed in,

forced her out and then drove off.

Work will start later this year on a major improvement of the main

road between Belfast and Londonderry.

The cities are linked by the A6, long stretches

of which are not dual carriageway.

The Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen says the work will begin

this year on dualling the section between Randalstown and

Castledawson.

To sport now and in rugby, Ulster have staged an incredible

On to sport and in GAA, Tyrone fought back to clinch a 1-16

to 4-6 victory over Derry

in a dramatic Dr McKenna Cup encounter.

The Red Hands trailed by nine points at one stage,

with Derry goals before and after the break.

But Tyrone piled on the points, and a goal from Patrick Quinn

on the half hour helped the Holders win by the narrowest of margins.

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte said it was tough turnaround.

Two points is not a good place to be on any day.

And when you have a number of new players in there,

it is a big challenge for them.

It was good they wrestled their way back into the game before half-time

and we have a lot of strong players on the bench today and hope they can

give us the security to go on and win the game.

In the other McKenna cup clashes there were wins for Fermanagh,

Cavan, Armagh and St Mary's.

And in snooker, Antrim's Mark Allen has knocked the defending champion

out of the Masters in the first round.

Shaun Murphy lost 6-4 at London's Alexandra Palace.

Now with a look at what the weather has in store for the rest

of the week, here's Angie Phillips.

It isn't unusual for January, but it will be bitter and windy this

week and also showers which could be wintry for some of us,

It has been quite breezy today, still blowing

in the north this evening.

A complication for this evening and tonight is cloud.

It will increase, particularly towards the West, bringing showery

outbreaks which could turn into sleet and snow on the hilltops.

In these areas where it is cloudy, temperatures stay above freezing

but there will be areas where clear spells could linger and temperatures

drop below freezing, bringing frost and icy patches

and maybe the odd pockets of mist and fog.

Just a warning and where we have had showers falling on frozen ground.

It will be a day of bright spells and showers once again.

Showers most likely to be towards the County Down coast

and the north and west tomorrow.

In between, dry and brighter weather.

Sunshine and showers for the Republic of Ireland

and much of Britain.

Towards the coast in the south-west, most of those falling as rain,

mild in the south, drier towards the east and still some snow

for the hills of northern England towards the north-west of Scotland

are maybe the Welsh mountains where it's colder.

We will see those winds picking up tomorrow afternoon

and that is as the showers become a bit more widespread as well

and edging inland.

It will feel wintry on the hills, highs of 5-6dC and feeling cold

as the wind picks up.

For tomorrow night and into Tuesday, low-pressure pulls into

the North Sea and we get these tightening isobars.

It will feel bitterly cold and we will get wintry showers

coming in on the hills, not quite so windy for Wednesday and Thursday.

After that, we've another weather system moving in which will bring

wintry showers to low levels through Wednesday

night into Thursday.
