Good evening and welcome to the programme. | :01:06. | :01:14.
A second postmortem is to be carried out on the body of the murdered | :01:15. | :01:18.
He died on Tuesday from what the prosecution say | :01:19. | :01:23.
were complications caused by the injuries he suffered | :01:24. | :01:27.
after a device exploded under his van. | :01:28. | :01:30.
The details emerged when a 45-year-old man appeared | :01:31. | :01:33.

Adrian Ismay was seriously injured when a device exploded under his | :01:45. | :01:50.
blue vans in East Belfast on the morning of the 4th of March. | :01:51. | :01:54.
After the attack, he was treated in hospital for his injuries | :01:55. | :01:56.
for a number of days and then released. | :01:57. | :01:58.
It was while he was home that he suffered a heart | :01:59. | :02:01.
Today in court, the man charged with his attempted murder | :02:02. | :02:04.
Christopher Robinson was asked to stand up whereas the new charge of | :02:05. | :02:12.
murder was put to him. He refused to stand up and didn't say anything in | :02:13. | :02:14.
reaction. The 45-year-old from Aspen Walk | :02:15. | :02:15.
was flanked during the proceedings by three security guards who stood | :02:16. | :02:17.
in the dock, and three armed police officers who stood at the door | :02:18. | :02:20.
of the court. A detective sergeant told the court | :02:21. | :02:24.
he could connect the accused He also said that a preliminary | :02:25. | :02:27.
autopsy report said that the cause of death was by a blood clot due | :02:28. | :02:32.
to deep-vein thrombosis following the injuries | :02:33. | :02:35.
to the prison officer's legs. A defence solicitor said a second | :02:36. | :02:47.
autopsy would be carried out on the body of Adrian Ismay. The details of | :02:48. | :02:51.
that are expected in the next few days. | :02:52. | :02:53.
Stormont Ministers are being urged to intervene directly to stop | :02:54. | :02:56.
St Patrick's Day violence breaking out in the Holyland area of Belfast | :02:57. | :02:59.
The police made 11 arrests in the city yesterday, | :03:00. | :03:04.
and a South Belfast residents' group says the clean-up and security | :03:05. | :03:08.
The longer Saint Patrick Day went on, the bigger the crowd got. There | :03:09. | :03:29.
was none of the violence which scarred the previous night, but it | :03:30. | :03:37.
was noisy and messy. A local residents group says Stormont has to | :03:38. | :03:40.
take action to stop it happening again next air. OFM DFM, they are | :03:41. | :03:47.
going to America to get jobs, how does this look on American TV? | :03:48. | :03:57.
We have an acceptable level of anti-social behaviour. | :03:58. | :03:59.
Every night during termtime in the year, drunkenness, | :04:00. | :04:01.
It's like it used to be in the Troubles, there | :04:02. | :04:03.
We are told it cost ?2 million, which | :04:04. | :04:07.
covers the cost of senior university staff out on the ground on the day, | :04:08. | :04:10.
security staff, police and this massive | :04:11. | :04:11.
Among those helping with the clean-up was Declan Boyle. | :04:12. | :04:15.
He is a Belfast city councillor and also a landlord in the area. | :04:16. | :04:18.
Should you not be doing more to police your tenants? | :04:19. | :04:20.
You tell me what you would like me to do. | :04:21. | :04:23.
For a start, you could make sure they're | :04:24. | :04:26.
not drinking on the street, not dropping litter. | :04:27. | :04:27.
The drinking on the street is the responsibility | :04:28. | :04:32.
of the council, the PSNI but more the council. | :04:33. | :04:34.
That is their responsibility, not mine. | :04:35. | :04:42.
Belfast City Council recently cut back the number of security cameras | :04:43. | :04:50.
in the area. Some believe more CCTV would help but others say they have | :04:51. | :04:57.
a better idea. If we had enough parents out there, those kids would | :04:58. | :05:01.
know they couldn't behave that way. This isn't rocket science. It was a | :05:02. | :05:07.
difficult night for the emergency services. A paramedic was assaulted | :05:08. | :05:12.
by a drunk teenager who had fallen on the street. While she was | :05:13. | :05:16.
treating the patient she was kicked in the stomach and spat at and as a | :05:17. | :05:20.
result she had to be added to hospital. Back in the Holyland, the | :05:21. | :05:27.
clean-up and a search for answers goes on. | :05:28. | :05:30.
The reality is there is no easy solution | :05:31. | :05:32.
to the issues around St Patrick's Day here. | :05:33. | :05:34.
No matter who you talk to, that's one thing everyone agrees on. | :05:35. | :05:37.
But Stormont ministers say they are taking the problem seriously and | :05:38. | :05:41.
they will talk to residents. Londonderry also sought crumble | :05:42. | :05:59.
following the same Patrick's Day parade. What happened? Police say | :06:00. | :06:07.
around 13 people were arrested due to disorderly behaviour, indecent | :06:08. | :06:13.
behaviour, common assault and resisting police officers. They say | :06:14. | :06:19.
a 17-year-old was arrested and was being questioned in connection with | :06:20. | :06:22.
a stabbing in Grafton Street in Rosemount. We understand an | :06:23. | :06:28.
18-year-old man sustained hand injuries and the police will follow | :06:29. | :06:32.
that up but police in the city were at pains to put this into the | :06:33. | :06:37.
overall perspective of the day, when they say something in the order of | :06:38. | :06:43.
17,000 people work out enjoying the same Patrick's Day festivities. They | :06:44. | :06:47.
are tendered the main carnival parade around the city centre, it | :06:48. | :06:50.
was a family parade around the city centre, it | :06:51. | :06:55.
were no reports of trouble at that. Police say most of the trouble was | :06:56. | :07:00.
in the evening, from people who were heavily intoxicant. | :07:01. | :07:06.
And it was also a busy day for staff at Altnagelvin hospital? | :07:07. | :07:11.
Yes, the western trust have confirmed that St Patrick's Day is | :07:12. | :07:16.
traditionally busy for staff and yesterday was no different, 172 | :07:17. | :07:24.
people were treated at A Hospital authorities say a disproportionate | :07:25. | :07:28.
number work for assaults but they could not give a breakdown of | :07:29. | :07:31.
figures as regarding the people who turned up and whether that was | :07:32. | :07:37.
solely related to St Patrick's Day, but it was a very busy day for | :07:38. | :07:43.
medical staff at Attlee Galvan. -- asthma Galvan. | :07:44. | :07:45.
The former senior detective who led the investigation | :07:46. | :07:47.
into the disappearance of Arlene Atkinson has told | :07:48. | :07:49.
the inquest into her death that he destroyed all of his notes | :07:50. | :07:52.
Eric Anderson also said he arrested the child killer Robert Howard six | :07:53. | :07:56.
weeks into his investigation but had no option but to release him. | :07:57. | :08:00.
Eric Anderson, seen here, gave evidence to the inquest | :08:01. | :08:10.
The inquest was told he was ill and this was the only way | :08:11. | :08:15.
Responding to questions by counsel for the coroner, Mr Anderson said | :08:16. | :08:18.
How did you destroy your journals? or journals relating | :08:19. | :08:31.
How did you destroy your journals? He was asked. By burning and | :08:32. | :08:32.
How did you destroy your journals? shredding them, he said. The rules | :08:33. | :08:34.
require you shredding them, he said. The rules | :08:35. | :08:40.
years after retirement. Asked if he had kept copies, he said no. He was | :08:41. | :08:46.
asked if he thought it would be useful at a later date but he said | :08:47. | :08:53.
at the time he was under serious threat and it was decided that | :08:54. | :08:57.
destroying them was the wiser thing to do. | :08:58. | :08:58.
Robert Howard, who was widely suspected of killing | :08:59. | :09:00.
Arlene Arkinson, was arrested six weeks after her disappearance. | :09:01. | :09:05.
Eric Anderson said it was his decision to arrest Howard because | :09:06. | :09:12.
his inquiry pointed strongly to Howard killing our lane. He could | :09:13. | :09:17.
not remember the reasons, and asked why Howard was not arrested earlier, | :09:18. | :09:23.
Mr Anderson said he was snowed under with information and wanted to get | :09:24. | :09:27.
more information on how word to build a case and get him to confess | :09:28. | :09:29.
where the body was. Howard was later | :09:30. | :09:31.
released and free to go. Mr Anderson was asked if he had any | :09:32. | :09:33.
concerns about this. "It was the only decision | :09:34. | :09:35.
open to us", he said. It also emerged that the then | :09:36. | :09:38.
Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Annesley, ordered a search of the home | :09:39. | :09:44.
and garden of Kathleen Arkinson, Eric Anderson will continue giving | :09:45. | :09:47.
evidence to the inquest next month. Still to come on the programme: | :09:48. | :09:55.
Protestors opposing a controversial exploratory oil well | :09:56. | :10:01.
in County Antrim are told they no Northern Ireland's Attorney General | :10:02. | :10:04.
is no stranger to controversy. Now John Larkin has said | :10:05. | :10:16.
the Easter Rising was profoundly He made the remarks in an interview | :10:17. | :10:20.
with a magazine examining Christian Here's our political | :10:21. | :10:26.
correspondent Gareth Gordon. In three days of fighting, much of | :10:27. | :10:39.
the centre of Dublin went into ruins. | :10:40. | :10:41.
Dublin 1916 and the aftermath of the Easter Rising, | :10:42. | :10:43.
one of the pivotal events in modern Irish history. | :10:44. | :10:48.
Rebels had been well organised, even to the extent of producing their own | :10:49. | :10:53.
clandestine newspaper. A hundred years on, the centenary | :10:54. | :10:55.
of these tumultuous events has produced a mountain of literature, | :10:56. | :10:57.
including this publication looking at both what happened in Dublin | :10:58. | :11:00.
and the Battle of the Somme from the perspective | :11:01. | :11:02.
of the Christian faith. It includes an interview | :11:03. | :11:05.
with the Attorney General, John Larkin, who says | :11:06. | :11:07.
of the Easter Rising: It's a view likely to provoke strong | :11:08. | :11:31.
reactions, both for and against. He's giving that as a legal | :11:32. | :11:44.
perspective and it was great to have his voice as somebody who had | :11:45. | :11:47.
studied that, but at the same time the bit most interesting to me is | :11:48. | :11:53.
him saying that reconciliation is not possible without forgiveness and | :11:54. | :11:58.
that requires God, so a number of interesting comments he made. | :11:59. | :12:00.
John Larkin is not afraid of saying difficult things. | :12:01. | :12:02.
He stirred controversy when he argued there should be | :12:03. | :12:04.
an end to prosecutions for Troubles-related killings. | :12:05. | :12:06.
Now he's offered a typically strident opinion on a violent event | :12:07. | :12:08.
An American software company is to create 74 jobs | :12:09. | :12:15.
in Northern Ireland over the next three years. | :12:16. | :12:18.
The digital publishing platform HighWire Press will set up a centre | :12:19. | :12:22.
in Belfast to house a technical team. | :12:23. | :12:25.
The announcement coincides with a trip to the US by the First | :12:26. | :12:28.
and Deputy First Ministers to promote Northern Ireland's | :12:29. | :12:31.
The company says it's coming here mainly because of | :12:32. | :12:36.
On a less positive note, there have been predictions | :12:37. | :12:41.
of falling wages across the UK as the wider economy slows down. | :12:42. | :12:47.
Wednesday's budget contained revised forecasts about growth, | :12:48. | :12:51.
and that could spell bad news here, where pay compares poorly | :12:52. | :12:54.
Our business correspondent Julian O'Neill can tell us more. | :12:55. | :13:00.
Statistics tell us 2015 was the best period for pay increases | :13:01. | :13:04.
A typical, full-time worker was said to earn ?25,000. | :13:05. | :13:11.
But the future looks much less healthy, with the budget containing | :13:12. | :13:15.
a downgrade of the UK's economic prospects. | :13:16. | :13:19.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies, the leading London think tank, | :13:20. | :13:23.
expects a national slowdown in wages growth and reduced living standards. | :13:24. | :13:29.
It's a view shared at Ulster University. | :13:30. | :13:34.
They are making sense, it is a more difficult environment and it is hard | :13:35. | :13:43.
to argue for a pay rises in the way it used to be, there is always a | :13:44. | :13:48.
cheaper location where things can be done, so now we could only look for | :13:49. | :13:52.
pay rises if we are doing our job better, not just getting older. | :13:53. | :13:55.
Stagnating pay does nothing to help boost George Osborne's tax take | :13:56. | :13:58.
and is part of the reason for more austerity. | :13:59. | :14:00.
Cuts are looming because the Chancellor's big goal | :14:01. | :14:02.
is for the UK to stop running at a defecit by 2020, | :14:03. | :14:05.
but the IFS rates his current chances as "only just the right | :14:06. | :14:07.

Our salaries are about ?2500 behind the national average. | :14:13. | :14:20.
Closing the gap isn't looking at getting any easier any time soon. | :14:21. | :14:26.
The Secretary of State has been ordered to give sworn testimony | :14:27. | :14:30.
to a court over the group known as the "hooded men". | :14:31. | :14:33.
If Theresa Villiers fails to meet next week's deadline, | :14:34. | :14:36.
she could be subject to contempt of court proceedings. | :14:37. | :14:40.
The group claim they were tortured by the Army in the 1970s and have | :14:41. | :14:44.
called today's High Court decision "a small victory". | :14:45. | :14:48.
They believe the Secretary of State is withholding documents relating | :14:49. | :14:51.
to their judicial review, but she says that's not the case. | :14:52. | :14:56.
We're going to be disclosing all the documents that are required. | :14:57. | :15:00.
Obviously with matters of such sensitivity, | :15:01. | :15:03.
which date back some decades, it takes a while to do the searches | :15:04. | :15:07.
needed to ensure that we've found all the relevant documents | :15:08. | :15:10.
and compiled the appropriate affidavit to support them. | :15:11. | :15:15.
A Fermanagh GP who took ?10,000 from a vulnerable patient made | :15:16. | :15:19.
a "gross error of judgment with catastrophic circumstances". | :15:20. | :15:23.
Dr Michelle Meloitte from Banner Beg road in Kesh appeared in court | :15:24. | :15:27.
in Dungannon after admitting fraud by abuse of position. | :15:28. | :15:31.
Her lawyer said it was an exceptional case that did not | :15:32. | :15:34.
61-year-old Michelle Meloitte, a GP who had given her life | :15:35. | :15:44.
to the service of her patients and community. | :15:45. | :15:47.
But a prosecution lawyer said she had dishonestly exploited | :15:48. | :15:51.
and taken advantage of an elderly patient. | :15:52. | :15:54.
The man, who has since died, had given her a loan, | :15:55. | :15:57.
but she had "chosen not to repay it" until the police | :15:58. | :16:01.
and General Medical Council began to investigate her conduct. | :16:02. | :16:05.
Dr Meloitte took the money from Michael McGrory | :16:06. | :16:08.
He was suffering from Alzheimer's and the GP was aware | :16:09. | :16:14.
of his deteriorating mental and physical health when she came | :16:15. | :16:18.
He signed a cheque for ?10,000 in the presence of his home help | :16:19. | :16:26.
with an endorsement that it would be paid back that summer. | :16:27. | :16:29.
But a year later, when the home help confronted the GP about the money, | :16:30. | :16:32.
she was told "not to worry about it". | :16:33. | :16:36.
The judge was given a large number of character testimonials that said | :16:37. | :16:39.
the former Ederney GP had spent her life going above and beyond the call | :16:40. | :16:43.
of duty for her patients and community. | :16:44. | :16:45.
Her defence barrister said the reputation of the GP was now | :16:46. | :16:48.
besmirched and she faced being struck off the medical register. | :16:49. | :16:53.
He said the impression had been given that Dr Meloitte had been | :16:54. | :16:56.
"fleecing a patient" in order to "line her own pockets" | :16:57. | :17:00.
but that was "not the case whatsoever" and she had used | :17:01. | :17:03.
He said she had suffered from depression and had | :17:04. | :17:10.
"allowed financial matters to overwhelm her and | :17:11. | :17:13.
Dr Meloitte will return to court to be sentenced next month. | :17:14. | :17:21.

Another successful day for the Irish as the Cheltenham festival draws to | :17:30. | :17:34.
a close. Protestors opposing a controversial | :17:35. | :17:36.

Conor Macauley reports. Contractors have begun shaping | :17:51. | :17:56.
the site for the exploratory drill The access track has been widened | :17:57. | :18:04.
and a fence has been Protestors warned that breaching | :18:05. | :18:09.

preparation work under way there. There is still a huge amount of | :18:24. | :18:41.
before any exploratory drilling gets under way. | :18:42. | :18:45.
Infrastrata says there's potentially enough oil under | :18:46. | :18:46.

at Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College broke the previous | :19:46. | :19:52.
record of 503. It's been another successful day | :19:53. | :19:58.
for the Irish at the Cheltenham It's been a brilliant week | :19:59. | :20:03.
all around, topped off today The climax of the Cheltenham | :20:04. | :20:11.
Festival, the Gold Cup, saw yet another victory for an Irish | :20:12. | :20:15.
stable, but also high drama as one of the fancied runners fell | :20:16. | :20:18.
near the close of the feature race. The big three were all leading the | :20:19. | :20:40.
field. The crowd give him a cheer, but he's gone! After winning the pet | :20:41. | :20:44.
ferret chase and King George VI, that fall cost to card ?1 million | :20:45. | :20:51.
put up by the Jockey club to any horse winning all three grade one | :20:52. | :20:59.
races. It was left to cost to bring home the Gold Cup and it was an | :21:00. | :21:05.
emotional victory for jockey Brian Cooper, who burst onto the scene | :21:06. | :21:10.
riding for the late Des each use. The triumph was also shared by | :21:11. | :21:11.
Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary. After a disappointing first round at | :21:12. | :21:14.
the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Florida yesterday, | :21:15. | :21:16.
Rory McIlroy was back He shot a second round of 5 under | :21:17. | :21:18.
par to rocket up the leader board. Brilliant shots like this helped | :21:19. | :21:26.
to six birdies on the day. His best shot came at | :21:27. | :21:28.
the par-4 third hole - McIlroy found his touch | :21:29. | :21:31.
on the greens as well. He's on a total of 2-under-par | :21:32. | :21:38.
but that's still 11 shots behind the runaway leader, | :21:39. | :21:42.
Australian Jason Day. At least Rory has a smile | :21:43. | :21:45.
back on his face. Graeme McDowell produced this superb | :21:46. | :21:48.
bunker shot for an opening He's just got his second | :21:49. | :21:50.
round under way. Ireland conclude their RBS | :21:51. | :21:57.
Six Nations rugby campaign They've relinquished their title | :21:58. | :22:05.
but the champions will try and finish third | :22:06. | :22:08.
in the championship. And, after the game, | :22:09. | :22:12.
it will be time for coach Joe Schmidt to reflect | :22:13. | :22:14.
on his future with the IRFU. Joe Schmidt has a decision to make | :22:15. | :22:27.
should he or go? His contract is up next year. He said he would look | :22:28. | :22:33.
after -- at his teacher after the summer tour to South Africa. Rory | :22:34. | :22:37.
Best trained this morning, so would he like Schmidt to stay? Absolutely, | :22:38. | :22:45.
I have not heard a reaction from other players but not just joke but | :22:46. | :22:50.
this coaching staff is one of the best I have ever worked that and it | :22:51. | :22:54.
would be great to keep it together and keep pushing Ireland forward. | :22:55. | :23:00.
OK, we are playing hopefully for third place tomorrow but if we | :23:01. | :23:05.
delivered two championships in three years, it's not a bad return. This | :23:06. | :23:10.
weekend Schmidt will come up against his former boss at French club | :23:11. | :23:18.
Laverne. It is a bit bizarre, I will catch up with him and before the | :23:19. | :23:25.
game we will have a bit of a chat about everything but rugby. You | :23:26. | :23:29.
really want to win but you don't want him to lose, but there is only | :23:30. | :23:36.
one winner. Ireland have just come off a buoyant victory against Italy, | :23:37. | :23:41.
so it is exciting to have another crack at good opposition and see | :23:42. | :23:47.
where we go. Irish rugby fans have been spoiled over the past two | :23:48. | :23:52.
seasons. There was not the a prize tomorrow but what is up for | :23:53. | :23:56.
discussion is the future of Joe Schmidt and a win against Scotland | :23:57. | :24:00.
might increase the likelihood of him staying on. | :24:01. | :24:04.
There is plenty of Ulster interest in Sunday's Irish | :24:05. | :24:06.
Lisnagarvey face Dublin side Monkstown in the men's decider | :24:07. | :24:10.
while there's a local derby in the women's competition. | :24:11. | :24:12.
It's 11 years since Lisnagarvey lifted the Irish senior cup and this | :24:13. | :24:21.
weekend that current All-Ireland league leaders hated team in second | :24:22. | :24:28.
place, Mike Stone. At the moment these aren't the two best teams in | :24:29. | :24:32.
the country so it is a good final to watch, both teams have several | :24:33. | :24:37.
international is so they are big opponents, we lost to them here, | :24:38. | :24:42.
something we would not like to do is lose this season. It is an all woman | :24:43. | :24:51.
is a fair at the Ulster final with all elks looking to retained the | :24:52. | :24:57.
Crown against Ards. A place in the play-off championship at the end of | :24:58. | :24:59.
the season, said there is a lot at play-off championship at the end of | :25:00. | :25:05.
stake come not just the cup. Playing elks is one of my favourite games | :25:06. | :25:08.
all year, to Ulster teams claim against each other, it's quite nice | :25:09. | :25:14.
to see an all Ulster final. With many of the respective Irish squad | :25:15. | :25:20.
is on show, too exciting finals are expected. | :25:21. | :25:22.
Derry City are in action again tonight in the SSE Airtricity | :25:23. | :25:24.
Premier division when they take on Galway United at the Brandywell. | :25:25. | :25:28.
Full-time score on our later bulletin. | :25:29. | :25:29.
And all the results and action in the Irish Premiership will be | :25:30. | :25:34.
on Final Score at 5pm tomorrow on BBC One. | :25:35. | :25:36.
Top game sees Linfield travel to Cliftonville hoping to keep | :25:37. | :25:39.
We shall see. Now, Cecilia is here with the | :25:40. | :25:49.
weather forecast. How is it chipping up? Disappointingly old today and | :25:50. | :25:58.
this is not today's sunset, this was St Patrick's day's sunset in the | :25:59. | :26:03.
morn is that the sun wasn't that far away today. The bulk of the sunshine | :26:04. | :26:08.
was done so and can you imagine how cross we would be if we had | :26:09. | :26:13.
yesterday's weather today, at least we had to date but cloudy skies for | :26:14. | :26:20.
many Northern counties, any holes in the cloud will feel in tonight. Last | :26:21. | :26:27.
night we saw temperatures as low as -5.6 degrees, tonight they will stay | :26:28. | :26:32.
positive but there will still be mist and low cloud, and that made it | :26:33. | :26:39.
the coldest spring night so far. We expect lots of dry weather this | :26:40. | :26:44.
weekend, more cloud than sun and it will be cruel at times with those | :26:45. | :26:48.
cloudier skies. To begin with quite great and misty, but hopefully it | :26:49. | :26:53.
will brighten as the day goes on but at least it is dry, mist and low | :26:54. | :26:58.
cloud should lift off the hills to the morning and it will brighten up | :26:59. | :27:02.
as the day goes on, so here's our midday picture, temperatures around | :27:03. | :27:08.
eight or nine, maybe six or seven in places where it stays still up | :27:09. | :27:10.
towards the north places where it stays still up | :27:11. | :27:15.
do get some sunshine to the south places where it stays still up | :27:16. | :27:19.
the morn is, you may see 10 degrees but not | :27:20. | :27:23.
the morn is, you may see 10 degrees figures. If you are heading south | :27:24. | :27:26.
for Ireland's last match in the Six Nations, cloudy skies although it is | :27:27. | :27:31.
dry in Dublin. Sunday looks like there is more chance of seeing a bit | :27:32. | :27:36.
of sunshine, so we should see temperatures up to ten or 11 | :27:37. | :27:40.
degrees. More dry weather in the new week due to high pressure that still | :27:41. | :27:49.
pretty cloudy. Our late summary is at 10:30pm tonight | :27:50. | :27:50. |
