Five people have died after a car went off the pier

:00:00.:00:08.

A rescue operation involving Gardai and the coastguard is ongoing.

:00:09.:00:15.

It happened just before eight o'clock this evening.

:00:16.:00:18.

Our reporter Teresa Craig is at the scene.

:00:19.:00:25.

The Coast Guard has confirmed five people have died after the car

:00:26.:00:31.

entered the water at Buncrana per earlier this evening. The operation

:00:32.:00:37.

is continuing and includes the coast guard and the RNLI mac. Those on the

:00:38.:00:44.

beach have described their shock at what has happened. Local Sinn Fein

:00:45.:00:50.

councillor has said this is another terrible tragedy.

:00:51.:00:54.

Family and friends of a homeless woman who was found dead in Belfast

:00:55.:00:57.

have been leaving flowers and tributes in the city centre.

:00:58.:01:00.

A shrine has now appeared in the shop doorway where

:01:01.:01:03.

the 32-year-old was discovered yesterday morning.

:01:04.:01:06.

Relatives comforted each other as they paid their respects.

:01:07.:01:09.

She's the fifth homeless person to die in Belfast this year.

:01:10.:01:15.

Two Irish people were injured in this morning's fatal bus

:01:16.:01:18.

The Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin says their injuries

:01:19.:01:22.

At least 13 people were killed when the bus carrying foreign

:01:23.:01:27.

students crashed on a motorway between the cities of

:01:28.:01:29.

The Justice Minister David Ford has turned down an invitation

:01:30.:01:36.

from the Irish Government to attend an event marking the centenary

:01:37.:01:39.

Mr Ford said he was uncomfortable about the Republic marking

:01:40.:01:44.

the efforts of those who engaged in violence.

:01:45.:01:47.

He told the Sunday Politics programme that he had written

:01:48.:01:49.

to the Taoiseach to explain his reasons for declining

:01:50.:01:52.

My problem is that the people who murdered Adrian Ismay,

:01:53.:01:58.

the people who murdered David Black, the people who murdered Ronan Kerr,

:01:59.:02:00.

the people who murdered two Garda officers,

:02:01.:02:02.

would all claim to be the direct inheritors of Easter 1916.

:02:03.:02:07.

I cannot associate myself with that, as Minister of Justice.

:02:08.:02:12.

And you can see Sunday Politics again at 11:25pm on BBC Two.

:02:13.:02:17.

On BBC Newsline this week, we'll have a series of special

:02:18.:02:20.

reports in the lead up to the centenary of the

:02:21.:02:22.

We'll look at its legacy for Anglo-Irish relations,

:02:23.:02:26.

how it's taught in schools, and we'll bring you the story

:02:27.:02:29.

of a Belfast family which found itself at the centre of events

:02:30.:02:32.

in the Rising and at the Battle of the Somme.

:02:33.:02:36.

Those reports coming up throughout this week on BBC Newsline.

:02:37.:02:40.

Rugby now, and Ireland secured third place in the Six Nations

:02:41.:02:43.

after yesterday's win against Scotland at the Aviva stadium.

:02:44.:02:46.

No wooden spoon, but the supporters of both Ireland and Scotland arrived

:02:47.:02:52.

in Dublin hoping for nothing less than a win.

:02:53.:02:55.

For a 50th consecutive time, he plays a game in the Six Nations.

:02:56.:03:02.

When Jonny Sexton hit this penalty, Ireland were in complete control,

:03:03.:03:06.

leading on the scoreboard and - at this point - at 90% possession.

:03:07.:03:11.

Two minutes later, it was all change.

:03:12.:03:13.

Stuart Hogg broke clear of the Irish defence and charged for the corner.

:03:14.:03:16.

He wasn't going to be stopped and now it was Scotland

:03:17.:03:19.

Although it wasn't always reflected on the scoreboard,

:03:20.:03:24.

Ireland just seemed that little bit better.

:03:25.:03:26.

Jonny Sexton was superb, and on his 50th appearance

:03:27.:03:29.

for Ireland, Keith Earls strolled over for an Irish try,

:03:30.:03:32.

and the Irish finished this year's tournament with a win.

:03:33.:03:37.

We had to roll our sleeves up at times.

:03:38.:03:38.

We had to get on with it and we did that.

:03:39.:03:41.

The intensity and breakdown was tough to live

:03:42.:03:44.

But we did that and we matched them, really.

:03:45.:03:48.

And obviously we got a little bit of tempo as well,

:03:49.:03:51.

Despite nothing tangible on the line, there was plenty

:03:52.:03:54.

But in the end, it was Irish smiles and a third-place finish

:03:55.:03:59.

Now for a look at the weather for the week ahead.

:04:00.:04:07.

Hello, there. Good evening. It looks as though that fine spell of weather

:04:08.:04:18.

will soon end. But at least we start the new week on a settled note. In a

:04:19.:04:25.

lot of dry weather, if rather cloudy. From midweek, that will

:04:26.:04:29.

change. It will be more unsettled with rain, showers and wind.

:04:30.:04:34.

Tonight, a north-west of the breeze. It will bring more work load again

:04:35.:04:38.

and there will be some spots of rain and drizzle, particularly in the

:04:39.:04:43.

north and west. Generally still dry with those settling between 3-5dC.

:04:44.:04:50.

We start next week on a dry note. Large amounts of cloud for tomorrow.

:04:51.:04:55.

It will start pretty cloudy. But apart from the odd spot of rain, it

:04:56.:05:02.

is generally dry. Some patchy rain towards the West. We will also get

:05:03.:05:05.

cloud bringing occasional rain and drizzle into northern and western

:05:06.:05:10.

Scotland. For England and Wales, a good deal of cloud. Some showers,

:05:11.:05:14.

but generally dry. Some bright spells towards the east and morsel

:05:15.:05:19.

for Northern England, southern Scotland and bright spells for the

:05:20.:05:23.

east side of Ireland as well. Tomorrow afternoon, lots of cloud,

:05:24.:05:27.

but the chance of some breaks developing. Highs of 9-10dC. We

:05:28.:05:35.

start the new week with high pressure. It soon starts to shrink

:05:36.:05:40.

away and then we get a weak weather front moving in. We have a more

:05:41.:05:46.

active weather system to follow on Thursday. Tuesday is still dry, just

:05:47.:05:52.

some patchy rain and drizzle in western extremities. Rest of the

:05:53.:05:57.

sunshine towards the east, with temperatures in double figures.

:05:58.:06:01.

Cloudy in the West add-on Wednesday, patchy rain followed by sharp

:06:02.:06:06.

showers in northern and western areas. Still dry and break across

:06:07.:06:11.

much of England at this point. On Thursday, as that weather front

:06:12.:06:13.

approaches, more wet and windy weather.

:06:14.:06:15.
