Here on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:00.
A 28-year-old man's been charged with the murder | :00:00. | :00:09.
The 38-year-old died in a care facility last year after being left | :00:10. | :00:18.
with severe injuries when he was attacked | :00:19. | :00:19.
A second man who was arrested in England has been charged | :00:20. | :00:24.
The 61-year-old will appear in court next month. | :00:25. | :00:29.
A third man who was also being questioned has been released. | :00:30. | :00:34.
The high-profile Republican Sean Kelly has been arrested | :00:35. | :00:37.
and questioned in connection with the murder of a man | :00:38. | :00:39.
Kelly was convicted of the Shankill bombing in October 1993 | :00:40. | :00:44.
in which ten people died, including one of the bombers. | :00:45. | :00:48.
The body of 31-year-old Conor McKee was found by his mother at his home | :00:49. | :00:53.
in Glenpark Street off the Oldpark Road. | :00:54. | :00:55.
The outgoing head of one of Northern Ireland's | :00:56. | :01:01.
most prestigious grammar schools has written an unprecedented statement | :01:02. | :01:05.
containing outspoken criticism of his successor. | :01:06. | :01:08.
The letter, obtained by the BBC, was sent by the current headmaster | :01:09. | :01:11.
of Portora Royal in Enniskillen to parents of pupils. | :01:12. | :01:18.
Portora is due to merge with the Collegiate Grammar School | :01:19. | :01:20.
Here's our south-west reporter Julian Fowler. | :01:21. | :01:26.
The amalgamation of two Enniskillen grammar schools has divided | :01:27. | :01:29.
the community for more than a decade. | :01:30. | :01:30.
The dispute saw a petition with thousands of signatures | :01:31. | :01:32.
It was finally settled earlier this year when the High Court rejected | :01:33. | :01:40.
a judicial review from a Collegiate pupil, although the judge said | :01:41. | :01:42.
in reality the challenge was brought by the school's leadership as part | :01:43. | :01:46.
of their determined opposition to close the school. | :01:47. | :01:50.
Neil Morton has been headmaster at Portora for 14 years. | :01:51. | :01:54.
He had fought for the creation of the new school - | :01:55. | :01:57.
Instead Elizabeth Armstrong - the Collegiate prinicpal - | :01:58. | :02:01.
In his letter to parents, Dr Morton criticises Ms Armstrong | :02:02. | :02:08.
for her "implacable opposition" to amalgamation which he says | :02:09. | :02:15.
much bitterness might have been avoided, | :02:16. | :02:16.
and new schools in Enniskillen already built, if she had | :02:17. | :02:18.
He adds that fighting the legal challenge cost the school ?35,000 | :02:19. | :02:23.
and at least twice that amount to the public purse. | :02:24. | :02:26.
The Department of Education confirmed its costs | :02:27. | :02:28.
Dr Morton said sending the letter was not a case of sour grapes. | :02:29. | :02:38.
It is obviously a move which reflects on personal | :02:39. | :02:40.
disappointment but it is a professional issue. | :02:41. | :02:44.
The issue is that the person who was responsible for ten years | :02:45. | :02:49.
along with others for delaying this amalgamation and all | :02:50. | :02:52.
the consequences of that for the students in for a manner, | :02:53. | :02:59.
the consequences of that for the students in Fermanagh, | :03:00. | :03:01.
new buildings, new curriculum, everything was delayed | :03:02. | :03:03.
Elizabeth Armstrong said she would prefer not | :03:04. | :03:06.
By September, the name will have changed DNS Keller Royal Grammar | :03:07. | :03:21.
School and pupils will go to two sites before the decision is | :03:22. | :03:24.
eventually made on where to build the brand-new school. By then, many | :03:25. | :03:28.
will hope the bitter legacy of the amalgamation process will be a thing | :03:29. | :03:34.
of the past -- Enniskillen Royal Grammar School. | :03:35. | :03:36.
A 21-year-old man has died following a car crash on the main | :03:37. | :03:39.
road between Ballynahinch and Carryduff last night. | :03:40. | :03:41.
80 financial technology jobs are to be lost in Belfast | :03:42. | :03:45.
as the Euronext firm shuts its operation in the city. | :03:46. | :03:49.
Meanwhile, a similar number of jobs are under threat at the Tayto crisp | :03:50. | :03:53.
Earlier, our Economics and Business Editor John Campbell | :03:54. | :03:57.
Euronext run a series of stock exchanges across Europe, they were | :03:58. | :04:10.
once part of the bigger New York Stock Exchange group and was spun | :04:11. | :04:13.
off as a separate business. The Belfast off Magda Linette staff | :04:14. | :04:17.
offer technical expertise to the stock exchange but Euronext say it | :04:18. | :04:23.
makes more sense for the technical expertise to be closer to the main | :04:24. | :04:27.
operations, so I understand it is highly likely many of these jobs | :04:28. | :04:31.
will be run in the late moved to Portugal, where they run the stock | :04:32. | :04:35.
exchange in Lisbon. What about Tayto? The union Unite, who | :04:36. | :04:40.
represent Tayto, said the company are up to actively to making up to | :04:41. | :04:47.
80 redundancies, and it is highly likely there will be job losses. | :04:48. | :04:51.
They say they are likely to focus more production on their bigger | :04:52. | :04:55.
factories because it makes more sense to have production there. They | :04:56. | :05:00.
say the whole factory isn't under threat, but it is maybe likely in | :05:01. | :05:04.
the future that anything they do will only be for the Northern | :05:05. | :05:07.
Ireland market and that wouldn't need so many people. | :05:08. | :05:09.
Hundreds of people have turned out for a loyalist parade in | :05:10. | :05:11.
north Belfast to mark 1,000 nights of protest at Twaddell Avenue. | :05:12. | :05:14.
It began after a Parades Commission determination | :05:15. | :05:17.
not to allow Orange lodges to march past the Ardoyne shops | :05:18. | :05:20.
Policing the protest has so far cost more than ?18 million. | :05:21. | :05:27.
The County Grand Master of the Orange Lodge of Belfast | :05:28. | :05:30.
thanked those who have taken part in the campaign. | :05:31. | :05:38.
We have always said from the start, we don't need thousands or even | :05:39. | :05:47.
hundreds each evening. The protest is not a numbers game. But we do | :05:48. | :05:53.
need support from tens of thousands of people from all shades of | :05:54. | :05:58.
unionism and loyalism, who are committed to see the July parade | :05:59. | :06:02.
completed. A doctor has warned | :06:03. | :06:03.
of the dangers of taking abortion | :06:04. | :06:05.
drugs bought online. He was speaking out after a woman | :06:06. | :06:06.
who used abortion pills told the BBC she almost died | :06:07. | :06:09.
after taking the medication. The doctor said such | :06:10. | :06:11.
drugs are unregulated Our Health Correspondent | :06:12. | :06:13.
Marie-Louise Connolly reports. Without a doubt, there's | :06:14. | :06:19.
more than two sides Monday's suspended jail sentence | :06:20. | :06:21.
of a young mother highlighted how it remains one of the most emotive, | :06:22. | :06:26.
complicated and legally challenging It also triggered a massive debate | :06:27. | :06:30.
about taking abortion This woman did just that - | :06:31. | :06:35.
she took the tablets I have never felt anything | :06:36. | :06:40.
as painful and being on my own, when you in that | :06:41. | :06:47.
much pain, you should either be in hospital | :06:48. | :06:51.
or have some sort of medical | :06:52. | :06:53.
professional with you. So I felt I was making calls | :06:54. | :06:56.
I wasn't equipped to. This week has seen separate | :06:57. | :07:00.
abortion pill cases brought While that's a first, | :07:01. | :07:02.
they probably won't be the last, as according to some lawyers more | :07:03. | :07:08.
women are being vocal Their actions have caused alarm | :07:09. | :07:11.
among both lawyers This type of medication | :07:12. | :07:15.
is not a simple treatment. Where it is prescribed, | :07:16. | :07:22.
there are quite strict People should be under | :07:23. | :07:24.
medical supervision. There are dangers | :07:25. | :07:28.
of side effects with this procedure that can be | :07:29. | :07:31.
infection, there could be bleeding, there can be interactions with other | :07:32. | :07:35.
medications, allergic reactions. This week, Northern Ireland's | :07:36. | :07:41.
abortion debate took a massive leap from discussing allowing abortion | :07:42. | :07:44.
in very limited circumstances The conversation has opened up now | :07:45. | :07:48.
to talking about changing the law with respect to these | :07:49. | :07:57.
abortion pills. If we did that we would effectively | :07:58. | :07:59.
be liberalising the law a great deal and we would | :08:00. | :08:05.
effectively be bringing in abortion on demand and that would | :08:06. | :08:07.
cause us great concern. Late this afternoon in Belfast, | :08:08. | :08:09.
hundreds of pro-choice Clearly this issue is a long way of | :08:10. | :08:19.
being resolved. The former Labour Home Secretary | :08:20. | :08:32.
Alan Johnson has met members of the Labour Party here and says | :08:33. | :08:34.
he supports their campaign to field Mr Johnson, who's leading Labour's | :08:35. | :08:37.
pro-EU campaign, was speaking during He said members understood | :08:38. | :08:46.
the referendum in June I led the charge in the CW for | :08:47. | :08:55.
Labour Party members to be recognised here, but the issue about | :08:56. | :08:59.
whether we stand candidates is something for after June the 23rd. | :09:00. | :09:03.
We have got all of our focus on winning that referendum. You won't | :09:04. | :09:07.
peseta Sammy, though? He hasn't even persuaded a lot of his own members. | :09:08. | :09:14.
One of the reasons behind the reticence for going out | :09:15. | :09:24.
campaigning... We have got 232... Devastated his own constituency, | :09:25. | :09:25.
what devastated that? EU membership. And you can see the View straight | :09:26. | :09:27.
after this bulletin. Dublin Airport is to go-ahead | :09:28. | :09:29.
with plans to build a second runway in a project costing | :09:30. | :09:32.
around ?260 million. just under a mile north | :09:33. | :09:36.
of the existing main runway. It is expected to be | :09:37. | :09:40.
operational in 2020. The airport's chief executive | :09:41. | :09:41.
says it's good news Tourism in Ireland is marketed and | :09:42. | :09:52.
driven on an all Ireland basis and is doing tremendously well. I think | :09:53. | :09:57.
Dublin growing its frequency and roots in continental Europe is | :09:58. | :09:59.
really important to that, to bring more people in here to go right | :10:00. | :10:03.
across The Island, particularly with the good, strong road | :10:04. | :10:06.
infrastructure, it is only an hour from here to the centre of Belfast. | :10:07. | :10:08.
Despite a shaky start to the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, | :10:09. | :10:10.
Rory McIlroy is currently 1 under par after 11 holes | :10:11. | :10:13.
of his opening round - five shots off the lead. | :10:14. | :10:15.
And it's another Irish golfer who has been making | :10:16. | :10:17.
the biggest impact so far as Stephen Watson reports. | :10:18. | :10:24.
Shane Lowry might be playing in just his only second Masters, but he is | :10:25. | :10:30.
showing the composure and touch panel customer trend. The Offaly man | :10:31. | :10:39.
produced some sensational golf to rocket up the leaderboard and find | :10:40. | :10:43.
himself just one shot behind the leader, reigning champion American | :10:44. | :10:48.
Jordan Spieth. Rory McIlory looked relaxed as he teed off in the final | :10:49. | :10:54.
group in windy conditions. But his frustrating start to the season | :10:55. | :10:59.
continued. And he certainly wasn't at his best over the opening holes. | :11:00. | :11:05.
He dropped a shot here at the par-4 third, but managed to hold his game | :11:06. | :11:09.
together and bounced back with fine birdies at the 7th and ninth holes | :11:10. | :11:13.
to stay well in touch with the leaders. Despite some excellent | :11:14. | :11:19.
shots like this, Darren Clarke was struggling to find his rhythm and is | :11:20. | :11:25.
well off the pace. Houses Graeme McDowell. The famously fast Augusta | :11:26. | :11:31.
greens were giving the Portrush man all sorts of trouble, especially | :11:32. | :11:39.
here at the 5th hole. So problems for one half of the Irish | :11:40. | :11:43.
contingent, but Lowry and McIlroy are well placed at this stage to | :11:44. | :11:45.
make a Masters challenge. And Darren Clarke has finished | :11:46. | :11:54.
4-over par, ten shots behind. Graeme McDowell is level par with boreholes | :11:55. | :11:59.
left. Let's get the weather now. Good evening. That has been a much | :12:00. | :12:03.
better day of weather, dry and brighter this evening and a lot | :12:04. | :12:07.
calmer overnight and those more calm conditions mean temperatures through | :12:08. | :12:10.
the first top of the night drop away quite sharply under the clearing | :12:11. | :12:14.
skies, but they will recover a little bit towards dawn tomorrow | :12:15. | :12:17.
morning and that is because while we start our reasonably bright note | :12:18. | :12:21.
tomorrow, it won't take long for the rain to arrive. So the skies in the | :12:22. | :12:26.
west will begin to cloud over as battlefront approaches from the | :12:27. | :12:31.
Atlantic, it pushes slowly east as we go through the day, bringing rain | :12:32. | :12:36.
to all parts -- as that front. Britain and Ireland having two very | :12:37. | :12:40.
different days. Quite a reasonable day over the water, dry and bright | :12:41. | :12:43.
in places, a few showers around and decent temperatures in the | :12:44. | :12:47.
south-east. For us, a very different day. It is going to be cool, it is | :12:48. | :12:51.
going to be wet and a bit miserable under all that rain through the | :12:52. | :12:55.
afternoon. The rain will gradually clear out to the eased so we get | :12:56. | :12:59.
some evening brightness in the west in particular and that is a hint of | :13:00. | :13:02.
better things to come as we head into the weekend. It is going to be | :13:03. | :13:06.
another day of sunshine and showers but it is going to be cold, we are | :13:07. | :13:11.
into a cooler air mass so never feeling terribly warm. It will be a | :13:12. | :13:18.
cake if you are in the sunshine but any other showers could be of a | :13:19. | :13:21.
reasonably wintry nature, so some hail is possible and maybe some snow | :13:22. | :13:24.
of the highest of hills but it is an improving picture, getting a little | :13:25. | :13:27.
bit warmer as we head into the second half of this weekend. | :13:28. | :13:31.
We are approaching one of the biggest decisions | :13:32. | :13:34. |
