The PSNI has broken up an organised crime gang operating out of a luxury

:00:07.:00:11.

apartment block in the centre of Belfast.

:00:12.:00:14.

Today, three of the gang from South East Asia were jailed

:00:15.:00:17.

for their part in a UK-wide drug smuggling and distribution network.

:00:18.:00:20.

This is one of the gang entering the apartment building

:00:21.:00:26.

carrying a holdall with 15 kilograms of cannabis.

:00:27.:00:31.

He is just one part of what the police call a major network.

:00:32.:00:36.

They operated out of this apartment building.

:00:37.:00:41.

The police investigation began in October 2014 when they became

:00:42.:00:45.

aware of suspect packages being posted to Northern

:00:46.:00:48.

The inquiry, codenamed Operation Carhold,

:00:49.:00:54.

involved the PSNI, the South Yorkshire Police,

:00:55.:00:56.

the Metropolitan Police and the National Crime Agency.

:00:57.:01:00.

The drugs and subsequent money-laundering involved

:01:01.:01:01.

When detectives swooped on the apartment in the Oval Tower

:01:02.:01:08.

they seized ?560,000 worth of herbal cannabis,

:01:09.:01:13.

smaller quantities of other drugs, cash and equipment used

:01:14.:01:15.

There were sieges in other parts of Northern Ireland including

:01:16.:01:20.

Vehicles were also impounded and bank accounts frozen

:01:21.:01:25.

We started our investigations with the money trail

:01:26.:01:34.

so we will identify quite quickly that cash deposit have been made

:01:35.:01:41.

to a number of accounts in Great Britain, one

:01:42.:01:44.

of whom was a young female student who had received over ?60,000

:01:45.:01:51.

in a matter of months deposited into her account.

:01:52.:01:54.

That is always going to focus our interest.

:01:55.:01:56.

Clearly somebody that's been used to try and stay under the radar

:01:57.:02:03.

in terms of laundering money from the illegal drugs

:02:04.:02:08.

Last week two Asian women were given suspended sentences

:02:09.:02:13.

The police say this multi-agency inquiry has succeeded in taking down

:02:14.:02:18.

a UK-wide drug smuggling and distribution network.

:02:19.:02:21.

A veteran republican is to stand trial for alleged involvement

:02:22.:02:26.

She was kidnapped, killed and buried by the IRA in 1972.

:02:27.:02:37.

Her remains were only found decades later.

:02:38.:02:39.

79 year old Ivor Bell of Ramoan Gardens in Belfast

:02:40.:02:41.

is charged with soliciting the murder of the west

:02:42.:02:43.

It's a killing that continues to shock.

:02:44.:02:48.

Wrongly accused of being an informer, Jean McConville

:02:49.:02:50.

was dragged from her home, shot in the head and secretly buried.

:02:51.:02:55.

Decades later, the IRA admitted murdering the mother of ten.

:02:56.:02:59.

In 2003, her remains were found on a beach in County Louth.

:03:00.:03:05.

Today, Ivor Bell, seen here on the right, was told he'll

:03:06.:03:11.

The veteran republican faces two charges of soliciting the murder.

:03:12.:03:18.

During the short hearing, Ivor Bell stood alone in the dock

:03:19.:03:22.

Asked if he had any reply to the charges, he said no.

:03:23.:03:27.

Asked if he wanted to call any witnesses at this stage,

:03:28.:03:31.

Watching on, six of Jean McConville's children.

:03:32.:03:36.

The judge made reference to the Boston tapes,

:03:37.:03:39.

recordings of interviews with loyalists and republicans

:03:40.:03:42.

carried out for an American oral history project at Boston College.

:03:43.:03:47.

It's alleged that Ivor Bell was one of a number of interviewees,

:03:48.:03:50.

Some recordings were secured following a transatlantic court

:03:51.:03:56.

battle and the judge said today they could be admitted as evidence.

:03:57.:04:01.

The district judge says that following a preliminary inquiry last

:04:02.:04:05.

week she was satisfied the standard of proof had been met

:04:06.:04:09.

and there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

:04:10.:04:13.

Ivor Bell was released on continuing bail, the date of his trial is yet

:04:14.:04:17.

Soldiers, their families and politicians have all been

:04:18.:04:27.

giving their reaction to the Iraq inquiry but what about

:04:28.:04:30.

The Chilcot Report found 150,000 civilians were killed

:04:31.:04:36.

I've been to meet some people now settled in Belfast.

:04:37.:04:42.

Yossama and his wife are doctors from Baghdad.

:04:43.:04:46.

Both were studying at university when the war began in 2003.

:04:47.:04:50.

The couple and their two-year-old son were forced to flee

:04:51.:04:54.

I asked them how Iraq had changed since the invasion.

:04:55.:04:58.

The situation became worse than Saddam in 2003

:04:59.:05:07.

and because of the Americans who decided to begin

:05:08.:05:12.

They said chemical weapons and nuclear weapons but until now

:05:13.:05:19.

there is no clue that the Americans and Britain found any

:05:20.:05:23.

His wife says she can't forget the terror and devastation

:05:24.:05:30.

The sounds of the bombs was very terrible and all of

:05:31.:05:36.

We are afraid from everything and we don't know what will happen.

:05:37.:05:46.

Are you angry about what happened during the war?

:05:47.:05:49.

Actually, yes, because after the war everything is destroyed in Iraq.

:05:50.:05:56.

Before that, we are also not living well but we are safe.

:05:57.:06:01.

So you think the war made the situation in Iraq much worse.

:06:02.:06:08.

Yes, because every day is 50 people killed because of the bombs

:06:09.:06:16.

and the terror groups that can easily come up

:06:17.:06:20.

Fellow Iraqi Rachid has lived here for much longer but he too

:06:21.:06:26.

feels anger about the consequences of the war.

:06:27.:06:30.

If you compare it to what's going on today,

:06:31.:06:33.

There is not a single hospital built.

:06:34.:06:38.

Definitely under Saddam Hussein life was better for ordinary people.

:06:39.:06:47.

Today we are losing 100 people every day, car bombs,

:06:48.:06:50.

killings, definitely we were better off without this war.

:06:51.:06:57.

A banner glorifying the loyalist killer Billy Wright has been

:06:58.:06:59.

reported to the PSNI after it appeared on a lamppost close

:07:00.:07:02.

The police say they're investigating the sign at Eastvale

:07:03.:07:07.

It shows the late LVF leader and a quotation attributed to him.

:07:08.:07:13.

The SDLP MLA Patsy McGlone described the banner
