The new Prime Minister, Theresa May, has been filling some key roles

:00:00.:00:11.

in her cabinet this evening, but we'll have to wait

:00:12.:00:13.

until tomorrow to hear if the Northern Ireland Secretary,

:00:14.:00:16.

Before entering Downing Street earlier this evening,

:00:17.:00:20.

Theresa May spoke of her party's roots

:00:21.:00:22.

Not everybody knows this, but the full title of my party

:00:23.:00:30.

is the Conservative and Unionist Party.

:00:31.:00:34.

And that word "unionist" is very important to me.

:00:35.:00:38.

It means we believe in the union, the precious bond between

:00:39.:00:43.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

:00:44.:00:48.

But it means something else that is just as important.

:00:49.:00:51.

It means we believe in the union not just between the nations of the UK

:00:52.:00:57.

but between all of our citizens, every one of us, whoever

:00:58.:01:01.

The outgoing Prime Minister, David Cameron, says Northern Ireland

:01:02.:01:08.

is stronger now than when he came to power six years ago.

:01:09.:01:12.

But how will history judge David Cameron's role here?

:01:13.:01:16.

Our political correspondent Enda McClafferty begins his look

:01:17.:01:19.

back with some of today's events in parliament.

:01:20.:01:22.

On his final appearance at the despatch box as Prime Minister,

:01:23.:01:31.

David Cameron's first question came from the Northern Ireland bench.

:01:32.:01:35.

After thanking David Cameron for his commitment to Northern Ireland,

:01:36.:01:42.

Danny Kinahan then suggested some new jobs.

:01:43.:01:46.

I'm told there are lots of leadership roles

:01:47.:01:47.

There's even, across the big pond, a role that needs filling.

:01:48.:02:02.

Fascinating suggestions for future jobs, most of which sound even

:02:03.:02:06.

harder than this one so I think I will pass.

:02:07.:02:08.

I believe Northern Ireland is stronger than

:02:09.:02:10.

58,000 more people in work, devolution of justice and

:02:11.:02:15.

home affairs, the Saville Report published and record inward

:02:16.:02:20.

This is how David Cameron would like to be remembered -

:02:21.:02:26.

as the Prime Minister who put Northern Ireland

:02:27.:02:28.

on the international stage, bringing in the world's most

:02:29.:02:31.

powerful leaders to show them how far Northern Ireland had travelled.

:02:32.:02:36.

A journey which began for him five weeks after he was

:02:37.:02:38.

What happened on Bloody Sunday was both unjustified and unjustifiable.

:02:39.:02:46.

Here was a Conservative Prime Minister being cheered

:02:47.:02:48.

My brother William, we know he was innocent.

:02:49.:02:56.

But some of the Bloody Sunday families

:02:57.:03:03.

It was a fake apology and what the Bloody Sunday

:03:04.:03:08.

inquiry did at that time, although it found my brother

:03:09.:03:11.

and the others innocent of any crime, it also found the British

:03:12.:03:15.

government and the chain of command innocent and laid the blame

:03:16.:03:20.

Bloody Sunday was David Cameron's first big test and he had many more,

:03:21.:03:27.

not least when he formed an electoral pact with

:03:28.:03:30.

the Ulster Unionist Party which went badly wrong.

:03:31.:03:33.

Had that delivered any seats in 2010, that would have changed

:03:34.:03:36.

the dynamics of his relationship with Northern Ireland but it didn't,

:03:37.:03:40.

and at that time it dawned on him that there are no votes

:03:41.:03:43.

for the Conservative Party in Northern Ireland.

:03:44.:03:45.

He took an interest in Northern Ireland.

:03:46.:03:51.

He helped throughout the political process.

:03:52.:03:54.

as some of his predecessors but we all have

:03:55.:03:57.

different styles and it worked for him.

:03:58.:03:59.

But that hands-off approach didn't play well with Sinn Fein

:04:00.:04:01.

when the Conservatives pushed ahead with their austerity cuts

:04:02.:04:03.

Try as he may to talk up his legacy, David Cameron knows he will always

:04:04.:04:12.

be remembered for one thing - as being the Prime Minister

:04:13.:04:15.

in charge when the UK voted to leave the EU.

:04:16.:04:17.

So his legacy here cannot be assessed until we know the full

:04:18.:04:20.

implications of that vote - in other words, what life will be

:04:21.:04:23.

like for Northern Ireland outside the EU.

:04:24.:04:25.

And that will be for his successor at Number 10,

:04:26.:04:28.

One of the Prime Minister's early appointments to her cabinet

:04:29.:04:35.

was Boris Johnson, who becomes the new Foreign Minister.

:04:36.:04:38.

The former leader of the Brexit campaign has been congratulated

:04:39.:04:41.

by the Irish Foreign Minister, Charlie Flanagan.

:04:42.:04:44.

He said the new minister faces many challenges on the UK exit

:04:45.:04:47.

from the EU and that he looks forward to working constructively

:04:48.:04:51.

with him on the issues which affect both governments.

:04:52.:04:54.

The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, has added his congratulations

:04:55.:04:57.

to Mrs May, telling her he wants to build on the close cooperation

:04:58.:05:01.

The Seagate factory in Londonderry will not be affected

:05:02.:05:13.

by a new round of global job cuts, the company has said.

:05:14.:05:15.

The disc driver manufacturer said on Monday that it intends to cut 14%

:05:16.:05:19.

of its global workforce by the end of 2017.

:05:20.:05:21.

That raised fears of more cuts at the Derry plant,

:05:22.:05:25.

where 70 workers were made redundant earlier this year.

:05:26.:05:28.

A spokeswoman said today that Seagate, one of

:05:29.:05:30.

the North-West's biggest employers, will not be affected.

:05:31.:05:36.

Hopes have been raised of a deal to end the dispute in

:05:37.:05:39.

Two of the three lodges involved in the stand-off did not take part

:05:40.:05:45.

in a protest at restrictions on their route yesterday.

:05:46.:05:49.

Our home affairs correspondent, Vincent Kearney, reports.

:05:50.:05:54.

In recent years three lodges and supporters have marched

:05:55.:06:00.

to police lines on the Woodvale Road.

:06:01.:06:03.

Last night fewer than 20 members of Ballysillan Lodge arrived.

:06:04.:06:08.

Then they waited, and waited, for two other North Belfast Lodges

:06:09.:06:12.

There's not enough time for them to get up here.

:06:13.:06:21.

A proposed parade deal between the Orange Order

:06:22.:06:24.

and an Ardoyne residents' group collapsed earlier this month,

:06:25.:06:28.

unravelling after Ballysillan said it wouldn't back it,

:06:29.:06:31.

even though the other two lodges said they would.

:06:32.:06:36.

Ballysillan have rejected any suggestion it was deliberately left

:06:37.:06:40.

out on a limb for opposing the deal, but it is been confirmed

:06:41.:06:45.

that the other two lodges did not endorse a letter of protest

:06:46.:06:48.

That letter is handed in on behalf of

:06:49.:06:54.

How you feel about the fact the other two lodges

:06:55.:07:01.

They can speak for themselves, but because of the order

:07:02.:07:06.

of the demonstration they could not come to the police lines,

:07:07.:07:10.

so the determination said 8:30pm and they were unable

:07:11.:07:15.

We are a lawful organisation, so we abide by the law.

:07:16.:07:27.

After the parade dispersed, there was some minor trouble

:07:28.:07:29.

and a brief stand-off between loyalists and republicans.

:07:30.:07:34.

While talks to resolve the Ardoyne dispute failed, those

:07:35.:07:38.

I could only describe it as an atmosphere that there

:07:39.:07:42.

is a possibility of resolution and I know myself from the local

:07:43.:07:47.

area, people do not want to hand this problem

:07:48.:07:49.

onto another generation, so there is an atmosphere

:07:50.:07:53.

Both sides at our door expected to resume their talks shortly and the

:07:54.:08:08.

aim is to reach a settlement will be for next year's Twelfth of July.

:08:09.:08:12.

A great-grandmother whose house was set alight by sparks

:08:13.:08:14.

from a nearby bonfire says she doesn't blame

:08:15.:08:16.

Lily Turtle's home in the Shankill was destroyed in the fire

:08:17.:08:19.

Three days later, the bonfire in Hopewell Square is still burning.

:08:20.:08:25.

Sparks and debris from this fire, carried by the wind,

:08:26.:08:29.

set alight three neighbouring houses in the middle of the night.

:08:30.:08:33.

No-one was injured but the damage is extensive.

:08:34.:08:37.

Lily Turtle's home was the worst hit.

:08:38.:08:40.

Furniture, beds, even family photographs and ornaments.

:08:41.:08:45.

She's been left with just a few bags of clothes.

:08:46.:08:50.

The house I loved, the best neighbours out over there,

:08:51.:09:02.

The 72-year-old and her two-year-old great-granddaughter were led

:09:03.:09:07.

Despite what she's been through, Mrs Turtle says

:09:08.:09:16.

she doesn't blame those who built the bonfire.

We saw some heavy downpours today, the odd one mixed with thunder.

:11:46.:11:58.

Thankfully the worst is passing, those showers using our way tonight,

:11:59.:12:03.

so it will end up mainly dry with cool spells although towns will set

:12:04.:12:10.

around nine or 10 degrees, five or six in the countryside. A better day

:12:11.:12:16.

tomorrow, dry weather and sunshine, there may the odd light shower

:12:17.:12:21.

towards the north and north-west but you will be unlucky to catch those,

:12:22.:12:25.

most places dry and sunny. For much of Britain and Ireland it's dry,

:12:26.:12:31.

sunshine, just one or two showers around the north of England and

:12:32.:12:36.

Scotland, breezy towards the north-east but for most of us it's

:12:37.:12:39.

fine with light winds and warm in the sunshine towards the south.

:12:40.:12:44.

Fairly decent temperatures for ourselves tomorrow afternoon

:12:45.:12:49.

although there may be a bit of cloud in the West, even here it will be

fine, highest temperatures towards the east where we hold onto the

rain follows on Friday, leaving fresher conditions for the weekend

with light showers. Our next BBC Newsline is at 6:25am
