The headlines this Thursday evening... | :00:20. | :00:22.
Vulnerable victims need better support from the PSNI, | :00:23. | :00:24.
The cut in interest rates - what it means for homeowners and savers. | :00:25. | :00:32.
A woman is awarded over ?50,000 after being unfairly dismissed | :00:33. | :00:37.
Although I have quite a lot of fight, eventually it wears you down | :00:38. | :00:55.
over time. The town of Portaferry is preparing | :00:56. | :00:59.
for the reopening of its aquarium. Joiners later to find out what is | :01:00. | :01:03.
inside. We found out the plans to rejuvenate this area. | :01:04. | :01:06.
Do we need a digital detox or are we all too hooked | :01:07. | :01:09.
And a few showers in the forecast for tomorrow, but some | :01:10. | :01:19.
The Chief Constable has described an inspection report which says | :01:20. | :01:41.
the police need to do more to protect and support vulnerable | :01:42. | :01:44.
Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary also says more needs | :01:45. | :01:47.
to be done to tackle high levels of sickness within the PSNI. | :01:48. | :01:50.
Our home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney reports. | :01:51. | :01:51.
I was so frightened. Why did you not say something? | :01:52. | :01:54.
The PSNI dealt with 28,000 reports of domestic abuse a year. | :01:55. | :01:56.
It also received around 4,000 reports of missing children. | :01:57. | :01:59.
And helped monitor the welfare of around 40 children deemed to be | :02:00. | :02:01.
The PSNI says tackling domestic abuse and protecting vulnerable | :02:02. | :02:08.
But an independent inspection report says | :02:09. | :02:12.
We are dealing here with people who are the most vulnerable in our | :02:13. | :02:25.
communities. These are women who are assaulted and sometimes murdered in | :02:26. | :02:29.
their own houses. These are children who are being exploited by evil | :02:30. | :02:33.
people. They need the protection of society. The police are one of the | :02:34. | :02:38.
key agencies that can provide that. The HMIC says more training | :02:39. | :02:40.
is needed to improve the way officers deal | :02:41. | :02:42.
with vulnerable people. Members of the policing | :02:43. | :02:44.
board expressed concern after being briefed | :02:45. | :02:46.
about the report this morning. The Chief Constable said he accepts | :02:47. | :02:49.
the findings. Some of that is frankly | :02:50. | :02:59.
uncomfortable reading but we do that as a platform for improvement and | :03:00. | :03:01.
change. -- review that. And insisted that change | :03:02. | :03:04.
is already under way. Training has been delivered for over | :03:05. | :03:14.
350 front line constables to help their understanding of the | :03:15. | :03:17.
safeguarding measures of domestic abuse and what they have to think | :03:18. | :03:20.
about. We have dedicated an additional 15 detectives to help us | :03:21. | :03:24.
tackle the problem of child sexual exploitation. | :03:25. | :03:26.
On a more positive note, the inspectors say the PSNI | :03:27. | :03:28.
uses its resources well to keep people safe and reduce crime. | :03:29. | :03:31.
However, they say its too reliant on officers | :03:32. | :03:33.
And that sickness levels are too high - around double that of other | :03:34. | :03:40.
The PSNI says that's largely because it needs funding | :03:41. | :03:44.
This isn't the first time inspectors have criticised the police approach | :03:45. | :03:53.
to victims of domestic violence and vulnerable people. | :03:54. | :03:55.
Each time there's been criticism, the police have promised to respond | :03:56. | :03:58.
The HMIC inspectors will come back next year to check on progress. | :03:59. | :04:04.
What does today's cut in interest rates mean for you? | :04:05. | :04:12.
The Bank of England base rate has gone down to it's lowest ever level | :04:13. | :04:15.
The bank said it was taking the action in an attempt to boost | :04:16. | :04:20.
growth because the outlook for the UK economy has | :04:21. | :04:22.
weakened markedly since the vote to leave the EU. | :04:23. | :04:24.
Here's our economics and business editor, John Campbell. | :04:25. | :04:35.
If you've bought your house with a tracker mortgage, | :04:36. | :04:37.
today's move means an immediate cut in your monthly repayment. | :04:38. | :04:40.
Let's say you owe ?100,000 over 15 years and your | :04:41. | :04:43.
interest rate tracks 2% above the | :04:44. | :04:44.
Your monthly payment will automatically fall | :04:45. | :04:52.
The top man at the Bank says you should still benefit. | :04:53. | :05:06.
The banks have no excuse, with the announcement today not to pass on | :05:07. | :05:16.
this kind of bank rate. They have to make that point to their customers. | :05:17. | :05:24.
Good news for borrowers but more pain for savers. | :05:25. | :05:26.
For many older people, like this group of Scrabble | :05:27. | :05:28.
players in south Belfast, interest payments were supposed | :05:29. | :05:30.
But in recent years the returns have been meagre. | :05:31. | :05:34.
Up until about four years ago or five years ago, I had some money in | :05:35. | :05:41.
my eyes account and I was getting about 3% on that. When you went in | :05:42. | :05:47.
at the end of the year, you thought there was an extra 100 that you | :05:48. | :05:53.
could get. Now there is no point in having it in a -- ISA. There is no | :05:54. | :05:55.
point in having it. -- ISA. With inflation now forecast to rise | :05:56. | :05:57.
that makes the picture even worse. As a company we expect to see | :05:58. | :06:06.
inflation rise probably even above the 2% target of the Bank of | :06:07. | :06:10.
England. That is not an issue as long as savers are getting the money | :06:11. | :06:15.
that they want. It savings rates are less than 1% and will probably drop | :06:16. | :06:20.
further, inflation may go to two and half percent of the percent in 2017, | :06:21. | :06:25.
that means the value of the savers' money is decreasing and that is a | :06:26. | :06:26.
big problem for them. The Bank of England is indicated it | :06:27. | :06:27.
could cut rates to just 0.1% Three men from Lithuania | :06:28. | :06:32.
say they're moving out, after their home was attacked | :06:33. | :06:41.
in Larne early this morning. One of the residents says he saw | :06:42. | :06:43.
a gang smashing his car and the front window of the house | :06:44. | :06:46.
in Herbert Avenue just after 1am. The attackers also painted | :06:47. | :06:49.
graffiti on the walls. Police are treating it as a hate | :06:50. | :06:51.
crime. Sectarian graffiti has been painted | :06:52. | :06:55.
on an Orange Hall in Lisburn. It's believed the graffiti | :06:56. | :06:58.
was sprayed on the hall The police have appealed | :06:59. | :07:00.
for information and are treating A woman has been awarded over | :07:01. | :07:03.
?50,000 after an industrial tribunal found that she was "unfairly | :07:04. | :07:20.
dismissed" by Belfast The college had also | :07:21. | :07:22.
refused a previous order to reinstate Patricia Flanagan | :07:23. | :07:25.
to her senior post. Our education correspondent | :07:26. | :07:27.
Robbie Meredith has the story. The end of the fight lasting almost | :07:28. | :07:36.
three years, which took its toll. To find yourself in that situation | :07:37. | :07:40.
where you have had your job taking from you effectively for no reason, | :07:41. | :07:46.
eventually, although you have quite a lot of fight and you want to read | :07:47. | :07:50.
the expose what is going on, eventually it does wear you down | :07:51. | :07:55.
after a time. She initially faced the allegations, including fraud. | :07:56. | :08:00.
These allegations were false, had no basis in evidence. Nobody, despite | :08:01. | :08:05.
many, many letters and communication, nobody acknowledged a | :08:06. | :08:09.
recognised they were going through a process that was fundamentally | :08:10. | :08:13.
unfair. Patricia Flanagan was sacked by Belfast Met College March 20 14. | :08:14. | :08:17.
But in August that year and appeal hearing at the Labour relations | :08:18. | :08:21.
agency Balbeggie had been unfairly dismissed and ordered the college to | :08:22. | :08:24.
reinstate her to her senior post immediately. But the college failed | :08:25. | :08:28.
to do that and Ms Flanagan resigned in March 20 15. In April this year, | :08:29. | :08:34.
an industrial tribunal again ruled in her favour, saying she had been | :08:35. | :08:37.
both unfairly and constructively dismissed. She has now been awarded | :08:38. | :08:43.
?55,000 in compensation. Money can never buy back the time that I have | :08:44. | :08:48.
spent on this. It cannot reinstate the damage this has done to my | :08:49. | :08:53.
health. Beasley, there are concerns at how might impact on my ability to | :08:54. | :08:58.
work in the future, thankfully I know what for myself. Belfast Met | :08:59. | :09:01.
College said sorry to Patricia Flanagan. A union says that must | :09:02. | :09:06.
change. The chief Executive and her senior managers or the firm had a | :09:07. | :09:12.
role to play in the dismissal of Patricia, none have apologised and | :09:13. | :09:17.
they should do so immediately. When contacted by the BBC, Belfast | :09:18. | :09:19.
Metropolitan College said they did not comment on personal matters. | :09:20. | :09:26.
A boxer in the Team Ireland squad has been notified that they have | :09:27. | :09:29.
failed a drugs test - this news coming on the eve | :09:30. | :09:32.
of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio. | :09:33. | :09:35.
Stephen Watson is in Brazil and has more. | :09:36. | :09:36.
The story broke ironically during today's boxing draw when fighters | :09:37. | :09:44.
find out who they will be taking on in the first rounds of the | :09:45. | :09:48.
competition. There were reports that a male boxer had failed a drugs test | :09:49. | :09:54.
for a banned substance and that has a sample had tested positive. The | :09:55. | :09:57.
Irish boxing coaching team actually only found out about the news during | :09:58. | :10:01.
the proceedings today. They said they were surprised, it is the first | :10:02. | :10:05.
they have heard about the story and would not make any further comment. | :10:06. | :10:11.
But then the last hour the Irish Amateur Boxing Association has | :10:12. | :10:14.
issued the statement. They have said they have been notified by sport | :10:15. | :10:17.
Ireland of the alleged violation of anti-doping rules committed by one | :10:18. | :10:21.
of their boxers in the high-performance unit. We understand | :10:22. | :10:26.
that that boxer had been notified and is provisionally suspended, so | :10:27. | :10:30.
they are out of the games. They have the opportunity of having their B | :10:31. | :10:34.
sample tested but they still cannot box into the outcome of that | :10:35. | :10:37.
investigation is complete. This news could not come at a worse time on | :10:38. | :10:42.
the eve of the Olympic Games, the opening ceremony is tomorrow night | :10:43. | :10:46.
but the boxing set to get underway on Saturday morning. Boxing is team | :10:47. | :10:51.
Ireland's most successful ever spot at the games with 16 medals in the | :10:52. | :10:55.
of the competition and lots more expected this time. But this news | :10:56. | :11:00.
has very much cast a shadow over the beginning of the Olympics. We will | :11:01. | :11:04.
have lots more on the story as we get it. | :11:05. | :11:07.
More from Stephen later in the programme. | :11:08. | :11:23.
Schemes which support vulnerable adults to live independently | :11:24. | :11:24.
are under serious threat - that's according to the Federation | :11:25. | :11:27.
of Housing Association who claim their funding has remained | :11:28. | :11:29.
The Department for Communities has told this programme that it's aware | :11:30. | :11:33.
of the financial pressures and is working to identify | :11:34. | :11:35.
A woman who suffers from mental health problems and who uses | :11:36. | :11:38.
the service in Ballymena says she'd be dead if staff hadn't intervened. | :11:39. | :11:41.
Our health correspondent Marie-Louise Connolly has | :11:42. | :11:43.
Despite suffering pneumonia was around the clock help at hand, | :11:44. | :11:47.
Sandra Campbell has been able to leave hospital and move back into | :11:48. | :11:49.
her supported living accommodation. Four times a day, every four hours. | :11:50. | :11:55.
Sandra moved in almost four years ago when living alone became | :11:56. | :12:00.
impossible. I have tried to commit suicide five times. That is true. It | :12:01. | :12:07.
cannot get worse than that. It cannot get any worse now. Stuff like | :12:08. | :12:11.
Yvonne, who are able to support people like Sandra, to live | :12:12. | :12:15.
independently in the community make a big difference. As the scheme | :12:16. | :12:19.
coordinator she is her go to person but with the cuts in place, our job | :12:20. | :12:25.
is under threat. Things like social inclusion, the activities and | :12:26. | :12:28.
support that begin them on a dairy basis, that would all go. What would | :12:29. | :12:32.
you do -- what would that do to their health? I am not sure, nothing | :12:33. | :12:40.
good. Many men and women across Northern Ireland that independently | :12:41. | :12:43.
in housing schemes like this one in Ballymena. While they have their own | :12:44. | :12:48.
apartment they can still put and shop for themselves with | :12:49. | :12:51.
professional help available 24 hours each day. It is the Department for | :12:52. | :12:56.
Communities that pays the wages of Avon. That funding has been frozen | :12:57. | :13:00.
for nine years. That means that things are getting to a critical | :13:01. | :13:04.
point now where the quality and viability of these schemes are | :13:05. | :13:11.
threatened. Staff courts are increasing significantly with the | :13:12. | :13:14.
living wage. In order to sustain high-quality services to vulnerable | :13:15. | :13:17.
groups and older people we need an immediate 10% increase in project | :13:18. | :13:22.
funding. It is estimated that the programme says the public purse | :13:23. | :13:30.
around ?125 million each year. Tell us what you think on her | :13:31. | :13:31.
Facebook page. Plenty still to come | :13:32. | :13:34.
on the programme, including... As Exploris gets ready to reopen, | :13:35. | :13:36.
we're live in Portaferry to look Cuts to opening hours at 14 | :13:37. | :13:39.
of our busiest libraries The minister responsible | :13:40. | :13:48.
has found extra money following a public consultation, | :13:49. | :13:51.
where over 8,000 people This library at Lisburn was one of | :13:52. | :14:08.
those facing a cut ennobling hours of nine hours a week. But its | :14:09. | :14:11.
lenders and users at 30 others made it clear they did not want any | :14:12. | :14:16.
change. We have carried out a consultation process and 8000 people | :14:17. | :14:19.
responded and the clear message was that they wanted the Bible is to be | :14:20. | :14:23.
retained with the opening hours that they currently have. It is an | :14:24. | :14:27.
comment on me as a minister to prioritise and look at the thing is | :14:28. | :14:34.
open to me and my department and are widely small remain open. This was | :14:35. | :14:40.
welcomed. We all sold out the forms and had a say in the library staying | :14:41. | :14:45.
open. I filled out one of the forms, more people that do it, the more | :14:46. | :14:49.
chance of keeping the library is open. They seem to close down | :14:50. | :14:54.
everything for the young ones. The extra money announced today mean | :14:55. | :14:56.
that libraries will have to find economies of just under ?2 million. | :14:57. | :15:05.
Cuts will still need to be made and libraries have said that means not | :15:06. | :15:07.
buying so many new books. The doors of Exploris, | :15:08. | :15:14.
the aquarium and seal sanctuary in Portaferry, | :15:15. | :15:16.
are due to reopen The council-owned centre, | :15:17. | :15:18.
which was threatened with permanent closure, | :15:19. | :15:20.
has been refurbished at a cost What will that mean | :15:21. | :15:22.
for the local community? Well, Donna Traynor is in Portaferry | :15:23. | :15:26.
on the Ards Peninsula. Good evening from Portaferry. I had | :15:27. | :15:39.
a walk around the town earlier and you can see that it has suffered | :15:40. | :15:43.
from the economic downturn, like many provincial towns of recent | :15:44. | :15:48.
years. It has had its fair share of two met and for sale signs but local | :15:49. | :15:53.
people tell me economic prospects here are on the up. More on that | :15:54. | :15:57.
shortly. First to Exploris and when it was opened before, and about | :15:58. | :16:02.
people just visited each year. So what is now in store? Frances | :16:03. | :16:06.
Coleman has had a look around the refurbished centre. | :16:07. | :16:11.
Be afraid, be very afraid. Well, not really. Only two and not fully | :16:12. | :16:18.
grown, this Nile crocodile is one of the new attractions at Exploris. The | :16:19. | :16:23.
normal size one of these would go to would be 60 feet. He has a diet of | :16:24. | :16:32.
fish. We would feed him six fish a week, that is all he needs to stay | :16:33. | :16:36.
alive. Visitors will have the chance to get closer to the fish from home | :16:37. | :16:41.
and abroad at the new centre. Inside here we have two different types of | :16:42. | :16:46.
cat shark, one small spotted one and one greater spotted one. They are | :16:47. | :16:51.
small, native species of shark. We have some sea urchins directly below | :16:52. | :16:56.
me. We have some very impressive looking spider crabs, this is the | :16:57. | :17:01.
biggest type of spider crab that we have around the British Isles. Very | :17:02. | :17:06.
long legs, as you can see. So called because it looks like a spider. If | :17:07. | :17:11.
you have ever visited the aquarium before you will notice a lot of | :17:12. | :17:14.
changes. The biggest change will be the inclusion of the tropical | :17:15. | :17:17.
experience, so the children will be able to come and see many other | :17:18. | :17:21.
fantastic species from across the world. It will be fantastic. Also, | :17:22. | :17:29.
we have and outdoor water in closure, two lovely little otters | :17:30. | :17:32.
which the children can get up and close and personal to and watch them | :17:33. | :17:38.
getting fed. The aquarium is a rescue Centre for Cities or injured | :17:39. | :17:43.
seals. As soon as these babies are better able return to the sea. | :17:44. | :17:45.
Frances Gorman, BBC Newsline, Portaferry. | :17:46. | :17:52.
Portaferry has been busy in recent weeks and has had its annual ala | :17:53. | :17:57.
festival, a food showcase and an international event. Alison and Joe, | :17:58. | :18:05.
a businessman and local councillor join me. Many people comes on a com | :18:06. | :18:11.
what is here for them to stay here, perhaps overnight? An incredible | :18:12. | :18:15.
number of things, but at the wonderful scenery. We have | :18:16. | :18:20.
marvellous history from 1798 up to the First World War, the captains | :18:21. | :18:27.
and sharing ships. We have a historic church which Prince Charles | :18:28. | :18:31.
opened recently. We have lots of sailing events, a lot of historical | :18:32. | :18:35.
tours and talks and walks. Arts and crafts. Everything that would make | :18:36. | :18:40.
people stay as well as lovely food. Exploris has rejuvenated the town, | :18:41. | :18:45.
undoubtedly it will do that, what else is planned? The perception is | :18:46. | :18:50.
that apart from the ferry crossing here, this is an isolated area. | :18:51. | :18:55.
There is that perception but I was at the Ards Peninsula today and I | :18:56. | :18:58.
was back home in 20 minutes. It would have taken me longer to get to | :18:59. | :19:06.
for a site. We are not as isolated as that. We have a great range of | :19:07. | :19:09.
events planned which we want to showcase, we want people to be lies | :19:10. | :19:12.
this is probably not the end of the buying for people to come to to get | :19:13. | :19:15.
that very. By the way, it is known as that famous crossing! But to stop | :19:16. | :19:20.
here. To wander the streets and look at our graveyards, our wonderful | :19:21. | :19:25.
buildings. Joe, as a businessman in the town, how is trade for you and | :19:26. | :19:30.
others? There is no doubt about it, it has been a very challenging time, | :19:31. | :19:34.
particularly the last two or three years for all businesses. Having | :19:35. | :19:38.
said that, I believe we have turned a corner. That is what must happen | :19:39. | :19:42.
here, we can see in Portaferry and obvious increase in visitors to the | :19:43. | :19:48.
area. We always get seasonal tourist trade from March until September, | :19:49. | :19:52.
but we have to try and get events organised from September right | :19:53. | :19:57.
through to March. But more than events, infrastructure is vital for | :19:58. | :20:02.
a time, what is planned? I am working as a councillor for the | :20:03. | :20:07.
infrastructure. We have good infrastructure and investment for | :20:08. | :20:11.
the area. Our roads were deplorable at one stage. There was no way you | :20:12. | :20:16.
could have expected people to come but we have had investment, massive | :20:17. | :20:20.
investment". That is what we need, part of the jigsaw, to put all of | :20:21. | :20:26.
the pieces together to make that important dates in place for the | :20:27. | :20:31.
tourism. Thank you both for joining me. People thought that Exploris Bob | :20:32. | :20:34.
Bird Portaferry back on the tourist map. If you are watching, you will | :20:35. | :20:39.
notice that Angie Phillips has put Portaferry fablet on her tourist | :20:40. | :20:44.
maps. She will hopefully tell is that this beautiful weather will be | :20:45. | :20:47.
set to continue. Back to you in the studio. | :20:48. | :20:49.
Looking lovely down there this evening. | :20:50. | :20:57.
Now, do you find it impossible to put down | :20:58. | :20:59.
In the last year, one in three internet users in Northern Ireland | :21:00. | :21:04.
has actually decided to take a digital detox. | :21:05. | :21:06.
That's according to the communications regulator, | :21:07. | :21:08.
So, is it time to try and switch off? | :21:09. | :21:11.
It is a fixture in our everyday lives. Browsing the Internet on our | :21:12. | :21:19.
phones, tablets and computers. On average, we spent nearly 19 hours | :21:20. | :21:24.
each week online. The Internet has certainly revolutionised people's | :21:25. | :21:29.
lives made things easier, shopping, speaking to family members and watch | :21:30. | :21:33.
at you. A significant number of people in Northern Ireland have said | :21:34. | :21:37.
that they have spent too much time online. The good news is that they | :21:38. | :21:41.
are starting to self regulate and cut down on some activities and | :21:42. | :21:47.
taking a detox in some cases. In order to strike a healthy balance | :21:48. | :21:51.
between the real world and the virtual world, one in three Internet | :21:52. | :21:55.
users has said that they are taking a digital detox in the last 12 | :21:56. | :22:01.
months. One out of six people have said they are probably hooked, | :22:02. | :22:04.
whilst almost one out of five Sevilla amateurs were not online. It | :22:05. | :22:06.
has pretty much become subconscious, it is like you just do it, you lift | :22:07. | :22:11.
the phone and then you realise you are on Instagram or Facebook or snap | :22:12. | :22:16.
chat. It has become a subconscious thing in our culture today. I spent | :22:17. | :22:20.
a good amount of time online, especially when you wake up in the | :22:21. | :22:27.
morning, it is the first thing I go to on my phone. I would tell you | :22:28. | :22:30.
that I do spend too much time online rather than being out and about and | :22:31. | :22:33.
doing stuff. I would definitely do is my phone quite a bit. I try not | :22:34. | :22:36.
to but it is difficult. I have never tried to detox. I have never thought | :22:37. | :22:40.
about it but it would probably be a good thing. If I could do the wind | :22:41. | :22:46.
detox, it would be good to detox on Facebook. Never Facebook under the | :22:47. | :22:52.
influence of wine! You have discovered that then? Like | :22:53. | :22:57.
everything I've, perhaps it is to the enjoyed, but in moderation. -- | :22:58. | :23:04.
perhaps it is to be enjoyed but in moderation. | :23:05. | :23:06.
Now, sport, and the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games | :23:07. | :23:08.
Stephen Watson is in Rio for BBC Newsline... | :23:09. | :23:12.
The first Northern Ireland athlete in action at these games is archer | :23:13. | :23:18.
Patrick Houston who will compete in the individual competition for Team | :23:19. | :23:23.
GB. The man from Belfast has featured in our final profile of | :23:24. | :23:29.
over 28 Olympians competing at Rio. Even before the opening ceremony | :23:30. | :23:32.
gets underway at the Maracana Stadium on Friday night, another | :23:33. | :23:37.
famous Rio venue will host the archery. Patrick Houston will be the | :23:38. | :23:44.
first of 300 and this strikes -- will be the first of 300 hours the | :23:45. | :23:48.
six strong squad in GP2 get underway. | :23:49. | :23:55.
Although the teams congregate here and they march up this avenue with | :23:56. | :23:58.
massive stands either side. It will be massive. I was there for the test | :23:59. | :24:04.
event, but good, both for the games they have put on more polish. To be | :24:05. | :24:09.
the first Team GB member out there representing the country, I have not | :24:10. | :24:13.
actually thought of that but it will be pretty cool. The archers will be | :24:14. | :24:18.
ranked one up to 64 based on their qualifications chorus, the higher | :24:19. | :24:21.
the better. The competition gets underway in earnest on Monday. | :24:22. | :24:25.
There are about ten or so people who get through to the archery part of | :24:26. | :24:32.
the games and it will represent small countries. There are few | :24:33. | :24:40.
people down at the bottom that if you get seeded to get them, your | :24:41. | :24:43.
first match will be a little bit easier. If you can write in the top | :24:44. | :24:50.
eight, that means you get to avoid the Koreans who are kind of the best | :24:51. | :24:53.
at archery until you get to the last eight, then, they will feel just as | :24:54. | :24:58.
much pressure as you. There is no lack of confidence but what can he | :24:59. | :25:02.
realistically achieved? Realistically, I want to get a | :25:03. | :25:06.
medal. I want to be Olympic champion, so does everybody, but I | :25:07. | :25:11.
have won a host of tournament in my career up until now and I hope to do | :25:12. | :25:15.
it again. As much as I want to win, just getting to the Olympic Games | :25:16. | :25:18.
when the so many people in Great Britain trying to get to an Olympic | :25:19. | :25:23.
Games, to be able to be that person selected to represent Team GB at the | :25:24. | :25:27.
Olympic Games, that is just a surreal and incredible experience. | :25:28. | :25:34.
And one he intends to make the most. -- make the most. | :25:35. | :25:40.
He begins tomorrow morning before the spectacular opening ceremony | :25:41. | :25:43.
begins. I will have lots more from Rio on BBC Newsline tomorrow. | :25:44. | :25:45.
Now let's get the weather with Angie. | :25:46. | :25:52.
A little bit of rain in the forecast but not all bad news, some dry | :25:53. | :25:58.
weather as well. The winds are not as strong but still enough of a | :25:59. | :26:04.
breeze to bring some showers through the first part of the day in | :26:05. | :26:07.
particular. They have been heading southwards. Lovely clear skies | :26:08. | :26:09.
moving in from the North and that meant it was the North Coast and | :26:10. | :26:13.
Donegal who saw these blue sky setting in. A lovely day for a | :26:14. | :26:17.
gallop along the beach. Probably feeling fresh with the onshore | :26:18. | :26:21.
breeze. It has been easing down. The clouds continuing to break up | :26:22. | :26:24.
throughout the day and at the finance for the day for many with | :26:25. | :26:28.
some evening sunshine. That guy weather holds tonight. Broken cloud | :26:29. | :26:32.
and clear spells, fresher than it has been recently. Temperatures in | :26:33. | :26:35.
the towns and cities, ten or 11 degrees but part of the Abu Zeid | :26:36. | :26:40.
could get seven or eight. Tomorrow, not a bad day once again. A lot of | :26:41. | :26:46.
bright weather around. There will be a few showers but through the | :26:47. | :26:49.
morning, we are looking at a fair amount of dry weather with decent | :26:50. | :26:53.
spells of sunshine. During the afternoon the spots of blood and | :26:54. | :26:56.
scattered showers will start to edge in. They will be working eastwards | :26:57. | :27:00.
but they are well structured, quite a few places will avoid them and | :27:01. | :27:04.
stay dry, they will start to move away later. During the second half | :27:05. | :27:10.
of the day, a fair amount of dry weather with 1819 degrees, possibly | :27:11. | :27:16.
20 degrees. Tomorrow night, it is back to something similar to | :27:17. | :27:20.
tonight. A lot of bright weather but clear skies. Similar temperatures. | :27:21. | :27:24.
We start Saturday on a nearly dry and bright mood. The cloud will | :27:25. | :27:30.
gather, spells been gathering in. The wind is picking the South. The | :27:31. | :27:36.
wind is the future as they get into the weekend. It is associated with | :27:37. | :27:41.
this deep area of low pressure. The isobars are getting tightly squeezed | :27:42. | :27:44.
out they could see some gale towards the North East on Saturday night. | :27:45. | :27:49.
Some rain but it moves through quickly so a lot of dry weather too. | :27:50. | :27:51.
Our late summary is at half past ten. | :27:52. | :27:53.
