by the army almost 45 years ago was "totally innocent" and did not | :01:35. | :01:38.

Our North West reporter, Keiron Tourish, was at the inquest. | :01:53. | :02:10.
An act of remembrance at the end of a deeply emotional day. | :02:11. | :02:14.
For more than 40 years, the family of Manus Deery have campaigned | :02:15. | :02:17.
We always knew the truth and it was to hear it in the court, it was | :02:18. | :02:31.
vital. Vital that his name and our name and the witnesses' names were | :02:32. | :02:32.
all restored. He was 15 years old when he was | :02:33. | :02:34.
killed in the Bogside He was standing with a group | :02:35. | :02:37.
of friends when he was struck with a bullet fired by a soldier | :02:38. | :02:41.
from high above the city walls. The soldier, Private William | :02:42. | :02:50.
Glasgow, who was officially named at the opening of the inquest, | :02:51. | :02:52.
and who has since died, had maintained for decades | :02:53. | :02:55.
that he fired at what appeared to be The bullet ricocheted and fatally | :02:56. | :02:57.
wounded Manus Deery. But the MoD and PSNI told a hearing | :02:58. | :03:02.
in the Royal Courts of Justice last year it was now accepted | :03:03. | :03:05.
the teenager was not carrying a weapon and the shooting breached | :03:06. | :03:08.
military guidelines. Delivering his verdict today, | :03:09. | :03:11.
the coroner made clear that He said the inquest had fully | :03:12. | :03:13.
vindicated his character. The coroner said that Manus Deery | :03:14. | :03:21.
was not posing a threat and nor says he force used was | :03:22. | :03:40.
disproportionate to the threat perceived. | :03:41. | :03:41.
He said Private Glasgow was not justified in opening fire. | :03:42. | :03:45.
One of those with him on the night he died says the verdict brought | :03:46. | :03:52.
relief and the truth was no established. Just admiration for the | :03:53. | :04:06.
family, just for Helen for keeping going this long. And an emotional | :04:07. | :04:12.
occasion for you? Very much. I will probably think about it more when I | :04:13. | :04:17.
get home. I'm just glad it is over. During the inquest, the commanding | :04:18. | :04:22.
officer of the soldier who killed Manus Deery held an emotional | :04:23. | :04:24.
meeting with a family and expressed his regret. I never thought I would | :04:25. | :04:32.
hug a commanding officer from the Army, but it was a normal elderly | :04:33. | :04:36.
man who was truly remorseful. And I was grateful that he was remorseful. | :04:37. | :04:44.
He left my sister's hair wet with tears. For Helen, it has been a long | :04:45. | :04:50.
battle for justice and it has taken its toll. It has been a long, hard | :04:51. | :05:01.
struggle for her. But she has persisted and she has got justice. | :05:02. | :05:07.
The family say their long campaign was worth the effort to establish | :05:08. | :05:11.
the innocence of a much loved son and brother. | :05:12. | :05:15.
Politicians are being accused of failing to put aside | :05:16. | :05:17.
old animosities and work for the benefit of children. | :05:18. | :05:21.
That hard-hitting message comes from the principal of a primary | :05:22. | :05:24.
school in Newry in a letter to parents of his pupils. | :05:25. | :05:28.
At the end of February, 15 principals jointly urged parents | :05:29. | :05:31.
to contact the authorities over what they described as the | :05:32. | :05:34.
Today, the principal in Newry told our Education Correspondent | :05:35. | :05:41.
Robbie Meredith just how much money may be cut from his budget. | :05:42. | :05:49.
These primary one pupils in Newry were learning how to do their sums | :05:50. | :05:57.
this morning. But for their principle, the money he gets to run | :05:58. | :06:00.
the school does not add up. In an unusual move, he has written to the | :06:01. | :06:06.
parents of his pupils to tell them exactly how much savings he has to | :06:07. | :06:12.
make and how they will affect them and their children. In a strongly | :06:13. | :06:16.
worded letter, he says that politicians have failed to put aside | :06:17. | :06:19.
old animosities and work for the benefit of the children. And that he | :06:20. | :06:28.
has to make ?46,000 in costs this year, having already saved ?30,000 | :06:29. | :06:34.
last year. We will have to cut educational needs provision. I am | :06:35. | :06:39.
looking at cutting 60 classroom assistant hours per week, that is | :06:40. | :06:43.
effectively? Cosham assistance. They are key to the running of our | :06:44. | :06:51.
school. I am and a hard place. I am going to be in deficit by about | :06:52. | :06:54.
100,000 by the end of three years, that is 10% of my budget. He has | :06:55. | :07:04.
also warned parents that they will have to pay more for extracurricular | :07:05. | :07:09.
activities, including music, as the school cannot foot the bill. I do | :07:10. | :07:13.
not think there will be happy about it but there is nothing we can do. | :07:14. | :07:17.
We want our children to be educated and to maintain the education they | :07:18. | :07:21.
have been getting, and with all the music and Spanish language classes | :07:22. | :07:24.
they are getting, there is nothing we can do except become involved. I | :07:25. | :07:30.
was at a recital last week and it made me cry, they are so good, and | :07:31. | :07:35.
to think that may be cut, just gone, it is just not acceptable. The | :07:36. | :07:40.
message about the money comes from this school will strike a chord with | :07:41. | :07:45.
many other teachers and parents. But it is also the test for those at | :07:46. | :07:49.
Stormont, but with the continuing stalemate, there is no sign yet it | :07:50. | :07:54.
it is one of the politicians are ready to pass. | :07:55. | :08:01.
And if you have a view on what you have just heard, or on what is | :08:02. | :08:06.
happening in your error, you can join the conversation on our | :08:07. | :08:07.
Facebook page. -- in your area. A good night for Belfast actors | :08:08. | :08:10.
at the Olivier Awards in London. A man in his 20s has died in a road | :08:11. | :08:34.
crash in County Antrim this morning. The lorry driver was unhurt. The | :08:35. | :08:36.
road remains closed. Stormont's two biggest parties | :08:37. | :08:39.
blamed each other today for a lack of progress towards | :08:40. | :08:41.
a deal to restore With Friday appearing to be | :08:42. | :08:43.
a deadline, there's little optimism From Stormont, here's our political | :08:44. | :08:47.
correspondent, Gareth Gordon. At Stormont Castle, the Fountain | :08:48. | :09:04.
still flows, but maybe not much else. Hope in this latest talks | :09:05. | :09:09.
process is ebbing away. Just listen to the two largest parties, about | :09:10. | :09:15.
whom no deal is possible. -- without whom. The reason why we do not have | :09:16. | :09:19.
a government up and running is not the fault of the DUP and indeed | :09:20. | :09:22.
there are a number of other parties who are willing to get the | :09:23. | :09:25.
government up and running straightaway and deal with some of | :09:26. | :09:29.
these other issues. It is Sinn Fein who are insisting on new agreements, | :09:30. | :09:36.
new demands being implemented, which frankly are not about health or | :09:37. | :09:42.
education or public services, what about narrow partisan issues. Sinn | :09:43. | :09:45.
Fein want these institutions to work, but the DUP need to take this | :09:46. | :09:49.
on board and the British Government need to take it on board. Clearly | :09:50. | :09:52.
they have not listened to the public. Posted Friday, I believe it | :09:53. | :10:02.
will be to the electorate to have their say. The other parties doubt | :10:03. | :10:04.
if the main players are given serious. I get a sense that some | :10:05. | :10:09.
people are going through the motions and it is very, very frustrating. We | :10:10. | :10:15.
have committed ourselves to really working to get all the issues | :10:16. | :10:19.
resolved, we have put in papers, been doing this for weeks, and we | :10:20. | :10:23.
have answers to all the questions. We do not think any of this is | :10:24. | :10:27.
insurmountable. I am not convinced that everybody else is in the same | :10:28. | :10:32.
place. Stormont's newest party leader already seems weighed down by | :10:33. | :10:36.
it all. I am a born optimist. And at this minute in time, even I am | :10:37. | :10:42.
fighting to keep up the positive vibe with these talks. We are seeing | :10:43. | :10:47.
little sign of progress. But right now, this would appear to be the | :10:48. | :10:50.
only sign of building work going on at Stormont. Time is quickly running | :10:51. | :10:55.
out and with every day that passes, a deal looks more and more unlikely. | :10:56. | :11:00.
Today is the 19th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. If it is to | :11:01. | :11:04.
happen again this Good Friday, something needs to change, and fast. | :11:05. | :11:07.
Employment levels and export orders are continuing to rise here | :11:08. | :11:10.
and according to an Ulster Bank survey, Northern Ireland has | :11:11. | :11:14.
experienced a positive first quarter of 2017. | :11:15. | :11:18.
But there is a warning of more pressure because of inflation. | :11:19. | :11:22.
Let's speak to our economics and business editor, John Campbell. | :11:23. | :11:29.
First, what is the survey? Every month, Ulster Bank asked a panel of | :11:30. | :11:38.
company the web companies how things are going. -- companies. The new | :11:39. | :11:44.
figures, a positive, as they have been for the first quarter, and the | :11:45. | :11:47.
survey gives us a pretty decent snapshot of what is happening in the | :11:48. | :11:50.
private sector. What are the main positives? The biggest is that | :11:51. | :11:56.
companies still appear to be creating jobs. We have had | :11:57. | :11:58.
unemployment falling for quite some time and the fact that the economy | :11:59. | :12:02.
is still able to generate jobs is a good thing because the thing which | :12:03. | :12:06.
gives people most economic welfare is the ability to have and hold the | :12:07. | :12:10.
job. Another thing which is good in the survey suggests the export is | :12:11. | :12:15.
part of the economy is also doing well and what is helping exports is | :12:16. | :12:19.
the weakness of the pound since the Brexit vote because it makes our | :12:20. | :12:23.
products more competitive on world markets. But there is a warning that | :12:24. | :12:27.
the weaker pound is also pushing up inflation. Yes, the flip side of the | :12:28. | :12:32.
weaker currency is that it makes imports more expensive but there are | :12:33. | :12:35.
lots of things we need to imports like food and fuel, and a big | :12:36. | :12:40.
feature of this survey over recent months has been quite steep rises in | :12:41. | :12:46.
inflation for companies' import costs. Another thing we are seeing | :12:47. | :12:49.
filtering through is that companies are passing on those increased costs | :12:50. | :12:54.
to customers in higher prices. So that is the first quarter of 2017, | :12:55. | :12:59.
what does the outlook look like? The big factor is that inflation is | :13:00. | :13:08.
pushing through into household budgets so it is likely to cause the | :13:09. | :13:12.
economy to slow over the coming months. Not just for Northern | :13:13. | :13:16.
Ireland but for the UK as well, the biggest factor pushing the economy | :13:17. | :13:21.
upwards over the last few months has been consumer spending. If consumers | :13:22. | :13:25.
do not spend as much, it could cause the economy to slow down quite | :13:26. | :13:29.
sharply. While we're on forecasts, news on the Republic of Ireland? | :13:30. | :13:33.
Dough-mac yes, there are recovery continues apace. Today it was a | :13:34. | :13:42.
revised forecast which says it will be around 4.5%. Under international | :13:43. | :13:46.
standards, that is very strong growth indeed. | :13:47. | :13:47.

The winner is Anthony Boyle for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! | :16:57. | :16:59.
Anthony Boyle's role as fan favourite Scorpius Malfoy | :17:00. | :17:05.
has skyrocketed him to the very top of British theatre. | :17:06. | :17:13.
It was amazing to be nominated. This is, like... My God! I can't believe | :17:14. | :17:19.
it, speechless. Anthony's talent was | :17:20. | :17:20.
clear from an early age. His success hasn't come as a shock | :17:21. | :17:22.
to those who know him. He was a lovely boy, he was a | :17:23. | :17:34.
character, he had a spark, he had a real interest in performing, and | :17:35. | :17:38.
sometimes when you see a student of form, you know they have talent, | :17:39. | :17:43.
extra talent, and when -- and we knew from the beginning that Anthony | :17:44. | :17:48.
had that. Drama is one of the most popular subjects at this school and | :17:49. | :17:51.
last night Anthony Boyle begin the first former pupil to receive an | :17:52. | :17:55.

somebody who came from my school, it is my dream now. If Anthony can do | :18:07. | :18:11.
it, I am going to do it. I don't want to think about it, I am going | :18:12. | :18:16.
to do it. All day everyone is talking about Anthony Boyle, it is | :18:17. | :18:21.
mad that he has won the award and he is from the school. I would love to | :18:22. | :18:25.

finished well, but that Masters It was a very late night? Yes, there | :18:37. | :18:50.
were a few bleary eyes! Yes - Rory McIlroy will have | :18:51. | :19:07.
to wait another year to try to complete golf's | :19:08. | :19:09.
Grand Slam. He finished tied for seventh - | :19:10. | :19:11.
six shots behind It was McIlroy's fourth consecutive | :19:12. | :19:13.
top ten finish at Augusta, which earned him well over a quarter | :19:14. | :19:17.
of a million pounds, but as Stephen Watson reports - | :19:18. | :19:21.
it's only that Masters title Rory McIlroy started the final day | :19:22. | :19:38.
six shots adrift of the leaders. He needed his lowest ever score at | :19:39. | :19:42.
Augusta to give himself a chance of catching them. But despite some | :19:43. | :19:47.
moments of McIlroy magic, ultimately, the world number two had | :19:48. | :19:54.
left himself with too much to do. McIlroy knew he had missed chances | :19:55. | :19:59.
early in the tournament. But he was still encouraged by his performance. | :20:00. | :20:04.
Not quite as adventurous as previous masters-mac -- Masters have been for | :20:05. | :20:11.
me. Quite a consistent and study Masters for me, it was not quite | :20:12. | :20:15.
good enough. I had an opportunity yesterday to shoot something in the | :20:16. | :20:19.
mid to high 60s, which would have got me closer to the lead today, and | :20:20. | :20:23.
I didn't quite do that. It is a case of what could have been. But I | :20:24. | :20:28.
prepared really well, I feel, I enjoyed my time here and just | :20:29. | :20:33.
played, and I feel that served me well and that is something I am | :20:34. | :20:36.
probably going to adopt in future. And what of his mentors? They think | :20:37. | :20:44.
he will win the Masters in future. He is probably the best in the | :20:45. | :20:49.
world. The way he hits the ball, he carries a long wedge through the | :20:50. | :20:53.
air, I think he has a real determination and desire, he wants | :20:54. | :20:56.
to complete the grand slam, which hopefully he will do. What do you | :20:57. | :21:01.
think you have learned this year? I am getting more comfortable here. It | :21:02. | :21:08.
is going in the right direction. Every time I come back here I feel I | :21:09. | :21:12.
have more a chance to win. Hopefully next year it is tenth time lucky! So | :21:13. | :21:18.
a high finish for Rory McIlroy on the Masters leaderboard. He leaves | :21:19. | :21:22.
you disappointed but says his confidence has not been dented, and | :21:23. | :21:26.
he has promised to return next year even better, to try and win this | :21:27. | :21:30.
elusive tournament. Stephen Watson, BBC Newsline, Gloucester. | :21:31. | :21:37.
Apologies for the sound issues with my microphone, I was up late and | :21:38. | :21:39.
might not have turned it on! The gap at the top of | :21:40. | :21:42.
the Danskebank Premiership is now down to just one point - | :21:43. | :21:44.
that's after Linfield defeated champions Crusaders | :21:45. | :21:46.
at Windsor Park on Saturday. Seven weeks ago, a third league | :21:47. | :21:55.
title in succession seemed almost a formality for Crusaders. Nine wins | :21:56. | :22:00.
in ten games for Linfield, however, including Saturday's victory over | :22:01. | :22:04.
Crusaders. It transfers the footballing landscapes. Just a point | :22:05. | :22:09.
between the sides with four games to go. In truth, this was a 1-0 tanking | :22:10. | :22:24.
from Linfield, who should have won by Mark. -- buy more. One goal was | :22:25. | :22:38.
enough. Whoever is put in front of us, we need to turn up and perform | :22:39. | :22:41.
and we need to win. Today was about winning another game. A lot of | :22:42. | :22:46.
people question everything here. I think today everybody did well. We | :22:47. | :23:01.
had all the possession in the game, they had the dominance. We have let | :23:02. | :23:05.
ourselves down and let our fans down. It is a poor performance from | :23:06. | :23:12.
us today. As well as an Irish Cup final to look forward to, Coleraine | :23:13. | :23:16.
are on a 16 game unbeaten run. On Saturday it was two goals from | :23:17. | :23:26.
Darren McCauley which means Coleraine are now five points clear | :23:27. | :23:27.
in third place. Ulster have slipped down | :23:28. | :23:29.
to fifth in the Pro12 table after their 24-24 draw at home | :23:30. | :23:32.
to Cardiff combined with results With games against the top | :23:33. | :23:36.
three sides remaining, starting with Munster away | :23:37. | :23:41.
on Saturday, the points dropped against the Blues could ultimately | :23:42. | :23:44.
cost Ulster a play-off place. But Director of Rugby | :23:45. | :23:48.
Les Kiss remains positive. We are still on the hunt. I thought | :23:49. | :24:00.
the ambitions of the guys to get back and win the game was there, | :24:01. | :24:04.
possibly a couple of calls could have gone our way but ultimately we | :24:05. | :24:08.
share the spoils. Sometimes, you just take the foot of the gas a bit, | :24:09. | :24:12.
we have to put the foot on the gas every time and make them feel the | :24:13. | :24:16.
heat. Once we have played at the intensity we would like to play at | :24:17. | :24:21.
and are good at playing at, we hurt teams, and we probably just let them | :24:22. | :24:25.
have a breather too much. They certainly tried to slow the ball | :24:26. | :24:29.
down with every set piece to catch their breath and ultimately, we | :24:30. | :24:39.
probably paid the price. Another frustrating evening for Ulster. | :24:40. | :24:41.
The Belfast Giants' season ended in disappointment | :24:42. | :24:43.
as they were defeated in the semifinal of the play-offs | :24:44. | :24:45.
They lost 2-0 to the Sheffield Steelers, who would go on | :24:46. | :24:49.
For the first time in their history, the Giants have gone three seasons | :24:50. | :24:55.
without any silverware, leaving player-coach Derrick Walser | :24:56. | :24:57.
I want to take a couple of weeks to think about what is best for my | :24:58. | :25:12.
family, also an how my body is. We have high standards here, I will | :25:13. | :25:18.
have to take some time to think about it because it is one of those | :25:19. | :25:24.
things, I am tired, I did whatever I could to get as much rest as I can. | :25:25. | :25:29.
I just feel old right now and it is a little bit disappointed. | :25:30. | :25:30.
Larne swimmer Conor Ferguson set new records in both the 50 metre | :25:31. | :25:33.
and 200 metre backstroke finals at the Irish Open swimming | :25:34. | :25:35.
championships in Dublin over the weekend. | :25:36. | :25:36.
The 17-year-old made history on Saturday in the 200 metres, | :25:37. | :25:39.
becoming the first Irish swimmer to go under two minutes | :25:40. | :25:42.
And his time in the 50 metres last night was fast enough to meet | :25:43. | :25:48.
the qualifying standard for the World Swimming Championships | :25:49. | :25:50.
Finally, Glenn Irwin has confirmed that he will race at this year's | :25:51. | :25:59.
international NorthWest 200 with the Be Wiser Ducati team, | :26:00. | :26:03.
who he rides for in the British Superbikes series. | :26:04. | :26:06.
An early night for you after that late night of golf! | :26:07. | :26:16.
The weather forecast is next and with many children off | :26:17. | :26:18.
for the Easter holidays already - and I'm sure the parents | :26:19. | :26:21.
Angie is here. Well, it could be a lot worse and it is in the middle of | :26:22. | :26:33.
April. But there are some dry weather and the protest, but it has | :26:34. | :26:38.
turned fresher, and we have had a few showers through the course of | :26:39. | :26:43.
today. But looking ahead, there is not a lot of rain in the forecast | :26:44. | :26:47.
for a good part of the time with good dry spells during the day. | :26:48. | :26:51.
Variable amounts of cloud but at least it means there should be some | :26:52. | :26:55.
bright intervals. But all the while we will have a rather cool breeze. | :26:56. | :27:00.
As I mentioned, the breeze did bring some showers today, particularly | :27:01. | :27:04.
across the northern counties and for a while some of them extended | :27:05. | :27:08.
towards Belfast. We had a couple of lovely rainbow shots. But away from | :27:09. | :27:14.
those rainbows and showers, we did have some blue sky and sunshine. A | :27:15. | :27:19.
lovely scene had Bangoura Marina. Some bright spells around this | :27:20. | :27:22.
evening but we're not completely done with the showers either. -- | :27:23. | :27:31.
binder. The showers will not last night, the wind moves around from | :27:32. | :27:34.
the western deterrence drier with clearer spells and quite chilly, six | :27:35. | :27:38.
or seven Celsius in towns but some rural spots getting down to two or | :27:39. | :27:42.
three Celsius. Could be chilly enough to start the day tomorrow but | :27:43. | :27:46.
I find it become what a lot of dry weather. Variable cloud, so it will | :27:47. | :27:51.
be areas of cloud drifting in on the westerly breeze from time to time. | :27:52. | :27:55.
But there will be breaks in it, hard to say for the best of them will be. | :27:56. | :27:59.
Almost anywhere could see some bright spells or intervals of | :28:00. | :28:03.
sunshine. Perhaps the best will be the further East you are with highs | :28:04. | :28:07.
of around 13, but the breeze making it feel cooler. Tomorrow night, we | :28:08. | :28:12.
get a band of rain moving southwards, so as a result of the | :28:13. | :28:15.
cloud it will not be quite so chilly. That rain clears away quite | :28:16. | :28:19.
quickly on Wednesday morning to leave a day of bright spells and | :28:20. | :28:24.
showers. More wind blowing on Wednesday, which eases through the | :28:25. | :28:27.
rest of the week. Often cloudy with spots of rain but a lot of dry | :28:28. | :28:29.
weather as well. A reminder of our top | :28:30. | :28:30.
stories tonight... The family of this 15-year-old boy | :28:31. | :28:40.
have welcomed the coroner's finding that he was totally innocent and did | :28:41. | :28:45.
not pose a threat to anyone when he was shot dead by a soldier in | :28:46. | :28:50.
Londonderry in 1972. And a primary school principal in | :28:51. | :28:55.
Newry has warned of devastating cuts of -- in education because of the | :28:56. | :28:58.
political stalemate. We have updates at eight o'clock and | :28:59. | :29:02.
nine o'clock on BBC One with the late summary at 10:30. Until then, | :29:03. | :29:04.
goodbye. | :29:05. | :29:06. |
