Good evening and welcome to BBC Newsline.

:00:00.:00:07.

The family of a West Belfast man say they feel let down by the justice

:00:08.:00:11.

system after finding out that his killer is being prepared

:00:12.:00:13.

Greengrocer Harry Holland was stabbed to death nine years ago.

:00:14.:00:19.

The teenager who attacked him was sentenced to 12 years

:00:20.:00:23.

in jail and told there would be no remission.

:00:24.:00:25.

The daughters of Harry Holland remembering their late father.

:00:26.:00:32.

Mr Holland was brutally murdered in 2007.

:00:33.:00:34.

16-year-old Stephen McKee had stabbed him in the head

:00:35.:00:38.

with a screwdriver and left him to die on the pavement

:00:39.:00:40.

Nine years on and the family have been told that Stephen McKee

:00:41.:00:45.

is preparing for his release from jail.

:00:46.:00:49.

He's now eligible to begin a phased return to the community,

:00:50.:00:52.

Basically, they are breaking him back into the community again.

:00:53.:01:04.

This is a violent individual, very dangerous.

:01:05.:01:10.

He thought nothing of stabbing our dad in the street.

:01:11.:01:17.

If they are rehabilitated, they have that chance

:01:18.:01:19.

They need to carefully consider letting him back into the community

:01:20.:01:24.

again and certainly consider not letting him near our family.

:01:25.:01:26.

But Stephen McKee will be released and free to live

:01:27.:01:28.

Something the Holland family say is wrong.

:01:29.:01:31.

The fact that his murderers have never said sorry and just don't

:01:32.:01:34.

care hurts even more, and we have to accept that

:01:35.:01:37.

after serving nine years, he could be back out on the street.

:01:38.:01:39.

Our family have been let down by the justice system

:01:40.:01:45.

in every way possible, from the sentencing,

:01:46.:01:47.

right through to this bombshell that he will be out

:01:48.:01:49.

I have absolutely no faith in the justice system here.

:01:50.:01:55.

Talk us through how your lives have changed since his death.

:01:56.:02:01.

Every happy occasion, it is mixed with sadness.

:02:02.:02:08.

Our weddings, I got married and my sister got married

:02:09.:02:12.

You try to be happy, but it is there all the time.

:02:13.:02:21.

The sisters say that Stephen McKee might be moving on with his life,

:02:22.:02:24.

but they will never be able to move on with theirs.

:02:25.:02:27.

He could make someone else feel like this.

:02:28.:02:36.

I would hate anyone to feel the way I feel, for anyone

:02:37.:02:41.

We will take our life sentence to our grave.

:02:42.:02:49.

Meabh Holland, one of the daughters of Harry Holland, ending that

:02:50.:02:52.

The family of a man who died after police arrested him have

:02:53.:02:57.

called for a thorough and swift investigation.

:02:58.:02:59.

Gerard McMahon died in hospital yesterday, hours after CS spray

:03:00.:03:02.

was used on him by police who were responding to a violent

:03:03.:03:06.

Gerard McMahon died in hospital yesterday evening, hours

:03:07.:03:15.

They were called to Great Victoria Street in the early hours

:03:16.:03:21.

of Thursday morning after a report that a man had become violent.

:03:22.:03:24.

It's understood the 36-year-old from the Short Strand had behaved

:03:25.:03:29.

erratically and was involved in disputes

:03:30.:03:31.

During the arrest, police used CS spray.

:03:32.:03:37.

In a statement, the man's family said they were grieving,

:03:38.:03:40.

The Police Ombudsman's office is continuing its investigation

:03:41.:03:48.

into the circumstances surrounding his detention.

:03:49.:03:53.

I will do everything I can to make this easier for them.

:03:54.:04:05.

I will make sure it is done speedily and the family can get

:04:06.:04:08.

The PSNI released a statement following Gerard McMahon's death, in

:04:09.:04:13.

which it passed on its condolences to the dead man's family.

:04:14.:04:17.

It added that they will fully cooperate with the Police

:04:18.:04:20.

It's more than 24 hours since Gerard McMahon's arrest

:04:21.:04:32.

The investigation into his death is continuing.

:04:33.:04:34.

The Police Ombudsman's Office has again appealed to anyone who saw him

:04:35.:04:37.

in Great Victoria Street in the early hours of yesterday

:04:38.:04:39.

The Secretary of State says he wants the search for agreement

:04:40.:04:48.

on the stumbling blocks regarding the legacy of the Troubles

:04:49.:04:52.

James Brokenshire was speaking tonight at a conference

:04:53.:04:56.

in Oxford attended by British and Irish politicians.

:04:57.:05:02.

I am considering carefully what he next steps are but I think it will

:05:03.:05:08.

be important to have a public phase to ensure there is a good

:05:09.:05:12.

understanding of what we are doing and also that we build that

:05:13.:05:15.

confidence in the institutions so that they are able to take effect,

:05:16.:05:20.

but also get on the third job with that sense of the backing of those

:05:21.:05:27.

who really need it and I think a public phase is appropriate. -- with

:05:34.:05:36.

where the attack happened. The details were revealed

:05:37.:05:37.

by the judge as one of the reasons she was refusing bail

:05:38.:05:40.

to Kevin Murray from The appeal court's been told

just so happy for him. He is such a good athlete

but actually the temperatures holding up pretty well, 16,
