in a series of arson attacks in Holywood. | :00:46. | :00:48.

Students from Zambia have received diplomas in computing | :00:57. | :01:04.
with the help of tutors at the South West College in Omagh. | :01:05. | :01:08.
The students used a video link with the college | :01:09. | :01:11.
to do their studies, but they made the journey | :01:12. | :01:13.
to County Tyrone to collect their diplomas in person. | :01:14. | :01:17.
Our South West Reporter Julian Fowler was at the graduation for us. | :01:18. | :01:23.
These five students from Zambia had been studying IT for the last four | :01:24. | :01:29.
years and have achieved their Level 4 Diploma in Computing | :01:30. | :01:32.
This is where they study - a classroom at Fatima | :01:33. | :01:38.
Girls Secondary School, in Ndola in northern Zambia. | :01:39. | :01:42.
Meanwhile, their tutors are 5000 miles away in the Virtual | :01:43. | :01:46.
Everybody told us at the start that this would never work, | :01:47. | :01:51.
that the challenges were too great and that we couldn't do it. | :01:52. | :01:54.
The students have persevered through significant challenges - | :01:55. | :01:58.
drought, lack of electricity, walking through the rainy season, | :01:59. | :02:05.
and they have achieved so much and we are so proud of them. | :02:06. | :02:08.
20 students began the course four years ago, and though only | :02:09. | :02:13.
five have graduated, it has given them new life skills. | :02:14. | :02:18.
They appreciate this opportunity that has been given to them. | :02:19. | :02:22.
This is a big achievement, because by their education | :02:23. | :02:24.
and even this graduation they are going to | :02:25. | :02:26.
The computer equipment and internet connection in Zambia | :02:27. | :02:31.
They will earn their living and they will keep their families, | :02:32. | :02:37.
and that's the key to the whole thing. | :02:38. | :02:39.
And they'll influence an awful lot of people to do something similar | :02:40. | :02:42.
to what they have done themselves, and that's the benefit. | :02:43. | :02:44.
It may be small in numbers, five, but this will multiply. | :02:45. | :02:48.
It can be difficult for students in Zambia to fund further studies | :02:49. | :02:51.
These graduates hope to teach or get jobs in industry. | :02:52. | :02:58.
We are just really, really proud and happy to be here. | :02:59. | :03:08.
As they collected their diplomas, they were given loud applause | :03:09. | :03:18.
The five Zambian students have been on a long journey | :03:19. | :03:23.
to get to this ceremony, and there is a great sense of pride | :03:24. | :03:26.
The National Museum of Ireland wants to talk to an anonymous donor | :03:27. | :03:37.
Some of the items date back to the Bronze Age | :03:38. | :03:43.
as our Dublin Correspondent Shane Harrison reports. | :03:44. | :03:47.
This is one of the National Museum's four sites. | :03:48. | :03:51.
People visit each week to look at the collections, | :03:52. | :03:58.
covering different ages, including the Bronze Age | :03:59. | :04:03.
Recently, they received four items sent anonymously with these | :04:04. | :04:09.
letters without a postmark, addressed to the History Museum | :04:10. | :04:15.
It gives rise to a suspicion that the sender may not have been | :04:16. | :04:21.
The items include two Bronze Age axes, a Viking strap end that | :04:22. | :04:32.
originated in Scandinavia, probably Norway, and very rare | :04:33. | :04:39.
in Ireland, and a small, twisted ring which may be linked | :04:40. | :04:43.
The museum believes the items were probably discovered in at least | :04:44. | :04:50.
There is also a suspicion that the artefacts were found | :04:51. | :04:54.
using a metal detector, even though it is illegal | :04:55. | :04:58.
to excavate items with a metal detector without a licence. | :04:59. | :05:01.
The finder may not have known that, especially | :05:02. | :05:06.
But staff would like whoever discover the artefacts to come | :05:07. | :05:12.
forward, to let them know the circumstances and whereabouts | :05:13. | :05:15.
of the finds in order to help them build up the picture of Irish | :05:16. | :05:19.
Chip shops are used to getting orders for food to be delivered, | :05:20. | :05:29.
but one in West Belfast went a step further over Christmas | :05:30. | :05:32.
She was down with the flu and asked it to deliver medicine. | :05:33. | :05:38.
The request was so unusual that the shop posted it | :05:39. | :05:41.
on social media and got a lot of reaction online. | :05:42. | :05:44.
The medicine was duly delivered much to the relief of the sick customer. | :05:45. | :05:51.
She was over the moon. She was actually giving the delivery guy a | :05:52. | :05:59.
?10 tip. She wouldn't take it. The girl asked for it so we wanted to | :06:00. | :06:03.
help her. In ice hockey, the Belfast Giants | :06:04. | :06:05.
have defeated Coventry Blaze 4-1 The victory means they move | :06:06. | :06:07.
to within four points of the league's leaders, | :06:08. | :06:11.
the Cardiff Devils. Main roads are being salted tonight | :06:12. | :06:12.
with icy conditions forecast. Angie Phillips has | :06:13. | :06:15.
more weather details. It's been a fairly settled start | :06:16. | :06:19.
to the new year so far, if not a bit on the cold side | :06:20. | :06:24.
with some wintry showers. Not so much wintry showers | :06:25. | :06:27.
in the forecast this week. Some rain, not an awful lot | :06:28. | :06:29.
of it though until we get Variable cloud, so some | :06:30. | :06:32.
bright or sunny spells. It will continue to feel quite | :06:33. | :06:38.
chilly though for a good part A few icy patches in parts of the | :06:39. | :06:51.
South tonight. Increasing cloud will bring the temperature is above bit | :06:52. | :06:55.
but also some rain and drizzle. If you are heading back to work | :06:56. | :06:59.
tomorrow it is a cloudy day. Some patchy rain around. Mainly but not | :07:00. | :07:05.
exclusively in the north and west. For parts of Scotland it is a wetter | :07:06. | :07:11.
and windy day tomorrow. Some in northern England and Wales as well. | :07:12. | :07:17.
Other than that largely dry. After a frosty start best sunshine likely to | :07:18. | :07:23.
the south and more sheltered parts of the East and North Sea coast. For | :07:24. | :07:28.
the Northern Ireland, we have a lot of cloud by the afternoon, still a | :07:29. | :07:33.
bit of rain and drizzle. Mainly patchy and sides so dry gaps in | :07:34. | :07:38.
between. The best likely towards the south and south-east. Temperature is | :07:39. | :07:43.
better. More of a breeze particularly around the coast. It | :07:44. | :07:47.
will feel cold. Through tomorrow night we still have the cloud and | :07:48. | :07:51.
bits of rain and drizzle running through on the breeze. That should | :07:52. | :07:56.
stay frost free. Also a weak weather front moving in from the north-east. | :07:57. | :08:01.
That is a narrowing band of rain and it pushes south and west and moves | :08:02. | :08:06.
away into Wednesday. Behind it it turns dry and bright with some | :08:07. | :08:10.
sunshine. The breeze easing with highs of seven or eight Celsius. It | :08:11. | :08:15.
looks like Thursday will be a cold start with the risk of frost. Mainly | :08:16. | :08:20.
dry but some rain on the way for Thursday night perhaps into Friday | :08:21. | :08:25.
but temperatures coming up a bit. The next BBC Newsline is at 6:25am | :08:26. | :08:29.
but from me, good night. | :08:30. | :08:30. |
