Two men have been charged with the murder of leading

The 44-year-old was shot in Carrickfergus on Monday and died

The men, aged 28 and 35, are also accused of attempted murder

and possession of a firearm or ammunition with intent.

They are due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Ten men armed with baseball bats, hammers and pickaxe handles tried

to kill a former leading loyalist in a barroom attack.

That's what a Belfast court was told today when a 27-year-old man

from Newtownabbey was remanded in custody charged

This is former leading loyalist Darren Millar, he suffered multiple

had fractures and a puncture to his stomach during what was described as

a vicious beating at a pub in County Antrim two days of ago. Details of

the attack emerged as 27-year-old Aaron Cahoon from Newton Abbey was

remanded in custody, charged with attempted murder. The court was told

that the defendant was trying to track down Darren Millar with a view

to attacking him. The injured man remains in hospital and police say

he could still be targeted. The defence solicitor defies Darren

Millar as a man with a long and an enviable criminal record. Who's

credibility had been repeatedly called into question. He also

insisted that his client denied any involvement in the attack. Aaron

Cahoon was remanded in custody. Aaron Cahoon was

injured. The attack happened just before one o'clock this morning.

The man who died in a car crash in County Down this

morning was 52-year-old Dean Weir from Portavogie.

His car was in collision with another vehicle on the Dunover

road in Ballywalter shortly before nine o'clock this morning.

what they described as low level disorder in the area.

But there's been no repeat of last year's trouble and the roads

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has indicated he won't announce

his retirement plans until there is political agreement

He also wants to see the EU agree its Brexit negotiating stance

Mr Kenny was speaking during the St Patrick's Day

celebrations in New York, where he again urged the parties

here to focus on forming a power sharing executive.

Thousands of people have been celebrating St Patrick's Day

with parades right across Northern Ireland.

There was also a big carnival procession in Dublin.

The rain didn't dampen the enjoyment for the thousands who turned out

to watch this year's Belfast-themed St

With music, acrobats, dancers and even a dinosaur thrown in -

the parade had something for everyone.

For some, the day was out of this world.

For others, it was all about making a fashion statement.

through O'Connell street. Slaughtneil's Gaelic footballers

have lost in the All Ireland club The game's turning point

was Padraig Cassidy's sending off in the first half after he lashed

out at an opponent. The Derry side drew level

in the second half but Dr Crokes finished stronger and won by two

points to end Slaughtneil's As is traditional on St Patrick's

Day, it's been a very busy And there has been no shortage

of drama in the finals played today. Nigel Ringland rounds

up all the action. Saint Mary 's microphone for looking

to win the Central League Cup. The game enters its final phase but

the gap narrowed to three points. At Saint Colman 's, they had a good

The weather for St Patrick's Day has been rather disappointing, wet and

windy and overnight, we have a little more rain, plenty of cloud

cover means it will be a very nice night tomorrow is wet and windy

again. We start of trial but the rain starts to work its way in from

the West through the day. Temperatures are reasonably mild,

11-12dC but with all the rain and cloud cover it's not going to feel

like a nice day. You can see with the winds becoming an increasing

feature through the day, the best of the weather across the north-east.

Rugby tomorrow, in Edinburgh, should get away without too much on the way

of rain. For Ireland, the winds might be a bit more of an issue.

Certainly the wind is picking up as we grow overnight Saturday into

Sunday, another mild night with all that's cloud cover but more rain.

Next week, that's my day will gradually sink away into a replaced

with something a bit more cheerier. No sign of that on Sunday.

Temperatures in double figures becoming less wet as we go through

the day although those temperatures will drop into next week.
