Bonfires across Belfast are to inspected in the wake | :00:11. | :00:17.
of injuries sustained by a nine-year-old schoolboy | :00:18. | :00:19.
The inspections will focus on any chemicals that may pose | :00:20. | :00:23.
Cameron Dixon's condition improved overnight. He is now off a | :00:24. | :00:36.
ventilator. He still needs round-the-clock treatment. At the | :00:37. | :00:41.
weekend he inhaled fumes from chemicals dumped near this bonfire | :00:42. | :00:45.
site near the Shankill Road. A local community worker said the bonfire | :00:46. | :00:52.
was not the cause of the problem. Unfortunately there are people that | :00:53. | :00:56.
come and fly-tip. We had an incident last year where asbestos was left on | :00:57. | :01:01.
site. Our experience has been at the bonfires are becoming more | :01:02. | :01:06.
responsible. They certainly do not want an incident where people are | :01:07. | :01:09.
dumping materials which could be dangerous. And scaring young people | :01:10. | :01:14.
around them. Many other bonfires are in the city and they face the same | :01:15. | :01:19.
potential problem. The city council has decided to take action. | :01:20. | :01:23.
Inspections will be carried out at all bonfires across Belfast, to see | :01:24. | :01:28.
if there is any toxic material. It is a big job and the police might | :01:29. | :01:32.
also get involved, but the council said it is necessary and in the | :01:33. | :01:35.
interests of health and safety. A post mortem examination is due | :01:36. | :01:42.
to be carried out on a baby girl who died in Dundrum | :01:43. | :01:45.
in County Tipperary yesterday. The Gardai have described | :01:46. | :01:47.
what happened as a personal tragedy. Seven-month-old Chloe Fogarty - | :01:48. | :01:49.
was the only child of Paul It appears the father | :01:50. | :01:52.
was taking his baby to a creche, but somehow got distracted | :01:53. | :01:56.
and the infant was left Prayers have been said today | :01:57. | :01:58.
in the family's local church. Heartbroken for the family. | :01:59. | :02:15.
Devastating such a tragedy would happen soon such nice decent people. | :02:16. | :02:22.
The community will support him. -- happen to such nice decent people. | :02:23. | :02:27.
A campaign group has been meeting politicians at Belfast City Hall | :02:28. | :02:30.
to highlight inequalities in the state pension for women. | :02:31. | :02:32.
Tens of thousands of women in Northern Ireland are affected | :02:33. | :02:34.
by the changes which were introduced in recent years. | :02:35. | :02:36.
Our Reporter Kevin Sharkey is at the City Hall. | :02:37. | :02:42.
This campaign has gone on for four years. It affects 77,000 women | :02:43. | :02:49.
across Northern Ireland. What is the problem? The problem is in 1995 the | :02:50. | :02:55.
government wanted to equalise men and women in the pension age. They | :02:56. | :03:03.
introduced a timetable, a state pension timetable, which was very | :03:04. | :03:08.
steep. Then they escalated it in 2011. Which now means some women | :03:09. | :03:14.
have to wait up to six years for their state pension. And they are | :03:15. | :03:20.
losing out badly. And this is about personal stories and personal | :03:21. | :03:23.
experiences. Shelley, what has been the experience for you? Many women | :03:24. | :03:29.
like myself have had help issues all their lives and just as we reach 60 | :03:30. | :03:33.
and think life gets a bit easier, the gamut has told us we have to | :03:34. | :03:38.
work another six years. With a loss of possibly up to ?48,000. What | :03:39. | :03:42.
difference is it making for you in your life? I should have got my | :03:43. | :03:47.
pension at 60. I have been caught in the acceleration. 63 years and seven | :03:48. | :03:52.
months and that means a ?30,000 to me. There are anomalies around these | :03:53. | :03:59.
particular acts which needs to be investigated by everybody expecting | :04:00. | :04:03.
their pensions. And as part of the ongoing campaign, another protest is | :04:04. | :04:06.
being held in the North West this afternoon. Kevin Sharkey reporting | :04:07. | :04:09.
from Belfast city centre. A couple have gone to the High Court | :04:10. | :04:14.
to demand legal recognition Their lawyers say pagans and other | :04:15. | :04:17.
religious groups enjoy such privilege in Northern Ireland, | :04:18. | :04:21.
but humanists do not. The case has been taken | :04:22. | :04:23.
by Laura Lacole who is a model and Eunan O'Kane, who's | :04:24. | :04:26.
a professional footballer with Leeds Gaelic football now - | :04:27. | :04:28.
and Derry will host Tyrone this Sunday in the Ulster Championship | :04:29. | :04:33.
quarter-final. They met at the same stage last | :04:34. | :04:36.
year with the result an emphatic win for Tyrone, | :04:37. | :04:40.
but their manager is not expecting We approach it with great caution, | :04:41. | :04:53.
for sure. Certainly we would know last year Derry did not expect to | :04:54. | :04:56.
have as bad a first half as they had. We caught them on the hop and | :04:57. | :05:02.
it was fairly sewed up at half-time. That will not be the case. Do not | :05:03. | :05:06.
think about what happened at Celtic Park last May. Think of what | :05:07. | :05:11.
happened when they progressed and Derry were in a better place and | :05:12. | :05:15.
that result reflected upon them. Tactics will play a big part. | :05:16. | :05:18.
Physical preparation will play a massive part, as well. We are | :05:19. | :05:23.
probably playing with a smaller pool of players than them. They have a | :05:24. | :05:26.
proven track record. We would like to have one similar, but we haven't. | :05:27. | :05:29.
Therein lies the challenge. Derry City are back | :05:30. | :05:34.
in action this evening with an away game in Drogheda | :05:35. | :05:36.
in the Airtricity Premier League. The Candystripes, who are | :05:37. | :05:39.
fourth in the table, But they've drawn | :05:40. | :05:41.
six of those games. And the City boss wants his side to | :05:42. | :05:43.
be more clinical in front of goal. Our North West reporter | :05:44. | :05:47.
Keiron Tourish has more. Manager Kenny Shiels says his young | :05:48. | :05:58.
players are progressing well this season. But they need an extra edge | :05:59. | :06:01.
to secure maximum points when they are there for the taking. The | :06:02. | :06:06.
Candystripes are undefeated in eight matches but have drawn six of them | :06:07. | :06:10.
and secured two wins, leaving them forth. The city boss would like his | :06:11. | :06:14.
side to be more clinical like this in front of goal. As we grow these | :06:15. | :06:22.
young players will get better. And the appreciation from support to see | :06:23. | :06:25.
what they are seeing must be encouraging for the supporters to | :06:26. | :06:30.
see the boys working so hard for the badge, for the city, for the club. | :06:31. | :06:34.
At the end of the day that is what football was about, for your | :06:35. | :06:39.
community. You can see that energy within the performances. Kenny says | :06:40. | :06:45.
the clear challenge is to keep the momentum going and to get back to | :06:46. | :06:47.
winning games. Enjoy the lovely sunshine while it | :06:48. | :07:02.
lasts. Now the weather. It is a glorious day but it will not last | :07:03. | :07:06.
over the weekend. In fact it is all change going through today. Plenty | :07:07. | :07:10.
of dry and sunny weather but if you are travelling today you might | :07:11. | :07:13.
notice these blogs coming in from the Atlantic, some heavy downpours | :07:14. | :07:19.
coming our way, and we could have thunder and lightning in County | :07:20. | :07:22.
Fermanagh and County Tyrone. A weather warning has been issued for | :07:23. | :07:26.
that. It could be noisy in parts of the West. Further east, a fine | :07:27. | :07:29.
evening, holding onto plenty of sunshine. Temperature is already up | :07:30. | :07:34.
to 25 degrees. As a result it will be another mild night. Temperatures | :07:35. | :07:40.
likely to stay at 14 or 15 degrees. Going into tomorrow, it is all going | :07:41. | :07:44.
to change for all of us. More unsettled conditions coming our way. | :07:45. | :07:47.
Some heavy thundery downpours. Noticeably cooler, as well. Tomorrow | :07:48. | :07:53.
we have a weather warning issued across the board, for heavy hand | :07:54. | :07:56.
thundery downpours which might lead to localised flooding as this goes | :07:57. | :08:02.
north across all parts. Not wall-to-wall rain. Some dryness in | :08:03. | :08:05.
between but plenty of cloud and maybe a gap in sunshine lifting | :08:06. | :08:08.
temperatures to 20 degrees. Typically 15 or 16. Most of the | :08:09. | :08:14.
unsettled weather clears tomorrow evening, leaving behind a much drier | :08:15. | :08:19.
picture on Sunday. But a loss of cloud on Sunday and temperatures for | :08:20. | :08:22.
some of us are well back at 30 degrees maybe in the north-west and | :08:23. | :08:30.
here today, up to 25. -- 13 degrees. Monday and introduce day, a lot of | :08:31. | :08:34.
dry weather, with sunshine but a lot of cloud. At least the temperatures | :08:35. | :08:35.
will be normal for the time of year. Bonfires across Belfast are to be | :08:36. | :08:41.
inspected in the wake of injuries sustained by a nine-year-old | :08:42. | :08:46.
schoolboy near a bonfire The inspections will focus on any | :08:47. | :08:47.
chemicals that may pose A postmortem will be carried out on | :08:48. | :09:01.
a seven-month-old baby, who died after being unconscious in a car in | :09:02. | :09:06.
County Tipperary. It appears the father was taking his baby to a | :09:07. | :09:10.
crash but somehow got distracted. The infant was left in the car for | :09:11. | :09:16.
several hours. A campaign group has had a meeting at a Belfast City Hall | :09:17. | :09:20.
to complain about changes in the state pension for women. It is | :09:21. | :09:24.
claimed tens of thousands of women have lost money because of changes | :09:25. | :09:31.
introduced in recent years. A couple have gone to the High Court to | :09:32. | :09:35.
demand legal recognition of their humanist wedding. Their lawyers say | :09:36. | :09:42.
pagans and other religious groups do enjoy such privilege in Northern | :09:43. | :09:43.
Ireland but humanists do not. Our next television news | :09:44. | :09:48.
is at 6:30 this evening. In the meantime you can | :09:49. | :09:52.
