Hello and welcome to South Today from Oxford. In tonight's programme: | :00:00. | :00:08.
Preparing for the waters to rise. With roads already flooded, people | :00:09. | :00:11.
are warned to protect their properties. | :00:12. | :00:16.
Also tonight: How housing could be built next to Oxford United's home | :00:17. | :00:19.
ground, paving the way for a fourth stand at the Stadium. | :00:20. | :00:28.
And later on, fundraisers trying to help this six`year`old boy argument | :00:29. | :00:30.
by fraudsters in America. Slowly but surely, the River Thames | :00:31. | :00:45.
is rising. The Environment Agency says there's a real risk that low | :00:46. | :00:48.
lying properties in Oxford and nearby will flood, if not tonight, | :00:49. | :00:52.
then in the days to come. People in vulnerable properties have been | :00:53. | :00:55.
warned to prepare for the floodwater to come into their homes. Thousands | :00:56. | :00:58.
of sandbags have been issued in areas most at risk. Many roads have | :00:59. | :01:03.
been closed tonight. And the recent heavy rainfall seeping into our | :01:04. | :01:05.
waterways means the situation is only likely to get worse. A man in | :01:06. | :01:09.
his forties died on Saturday after his mobility scooter ran off the | :01:10. | :01:13.
towpath and into the fast flowing water near Osney. Victoria Cook | :01:14. | :01:18.
reports. The water levels are still rising, | :01:19. | :01:21.
the floods have forced major roads in Oxford to close some have | :01:22. | :01:24.
remained open, but are becoming increasingly difficult to use. Over | :01:25. | :01:36.
the next couple of days, the situation is set to get worse. The | :01:37. | :01:45.
Thames is a slow responding reversal all of that rain is now making its | :01:46. | :01:48.
way from the tributaries into the main channel and up it comes. Pretty | :01:49. | :01:56.
slowly. We think that the water levels here in Oxford for instance | :01:57. | :01:59.
will continue to rise for another couple of days. This stretch of the | :02:00. | :02:05.
River runs from the lock and it has burst its banks and flooded the | :02:06. | :02:10.
footpath. It was this a spot on Saturday where a man using a | :02:11. | :02:12.
mobility scooter went into the water. He was rescued but they were | :02:13. | :02:15.
unable to save his life. This may look like a lake, but 24 hours ago | :02:16. | :02:20.
this was a football pitch in west Oxford. Next door, allotments are | :02:21. | :02:28.
submerged under 3ft of water. Across the county sandbags have been given | :02:29. | :02:32.
out by local councils. If you have sandbags then do not wait, you need | :02:33. | :02:37.
them on your property and have them ready to you can put them straight | :02:38. | :02:41.
in place in the water rises. I managed to get 250 sandbags, and I | :02:42. | :02:46.
have 350 sandbags now, courtesy of the planning officer. We defeated | :02:47. | :02:51.
those added the village and so we feel pretty well`prepared. People | :02:52. | :02:55.
have seen this happen before but there is still concern about the | :02:56. | :03:00.
damage it could cause. If it rises to the more timid `` inches it could | :03:01. | :03:08.
go up the steps and into my kitchen. Oxford is low`lying and there are so | :03:09. | :03:12.
many channels of water, there are bits of towns everywhere and they | :03:13. | :03:15.
are all coming up and rolling along so it is a worry. | :03:16. | :03:19.
The environment agency says the floods haven't reached their peak | :03:20. | :03:23.
yet, and any more rain here ` or elsewhere further up the Thames is | :03:24. | :03:26.
likely to cause more flooding. For those who think their homes may | :03:27. | :03:29.
flood, the advice is to seek help earlier rather than later. | :03:30. | :03:41.
The environment agency says the situation is changing our buy our | :03:42. | :03:44.
and are urging people in the flood risk areas to take all sensible | :03:45. | :03:48.
precautions and keep checking for the latest information. | :03:49. | :03:53.
Land around Oxford's Kassam Stadium could be re`developed for housing. | :03:54. | :03:56.
Provisional talks are underway ahead of any formal planning application | :03:57. | :03:59.
being submitted. The BBC understands that the stadium's owners are | :04:00. | :04:01.
working with developer Taylor Wimpey, and Oxford City Council, on | :04:02. | :04:05.
proposals to build 250 homes on part of the existing car park. There's | :04:06. | :04:08.
speculation that the currently "open" corners of the stadium may be | :04:09. | :04:12.
filled`in with apartments. The work could also pave the way for | :04:13. | :04:15.
construction of a long`hoped`for fourth stand, which would be | :04:16. | :04:28.
welcomed by supporters. At this point we don't exactly what is | :04:29. | :04:31.
involved and that is the key thing, learning what is involved and | :04:32. | :04:35.
ultimately any development must be beneficial for the football club and | :04:36. | :04:39.
supporters would own the welcome any kind of development that has a | :04:40. | :04:43.
beneficial impact for the football club. Wedding services are often | :04:44. | :04:49.
emotional but the ceremony taking place in Swindon today was more | :04:50. | :04:51.
touching than most. The bride had recently learned her father was | :04:52. | :04:54.
terminally ill, and appealed on social media for a wedding dress, so | :04:55. | :04:58.
she could bring the date forward. Her dream was to have her dad walk | :04:59. | :05:02.
her down the aisle. Sally Challoner reports. | :05:03. | :05:07.
It is a moment that Gary thought he might not live to see. Walking his | :05:08. | :05:12.
daughter up the aisle. But this wedding was put together in just a | :05:13. | :05:15.
month, thanks to the Facebook community. Healey's friends Louise | :05:16. | :05:20.
and Mark put out an appeal after she said she wanted the wedding to be | :05:21. | :05:24.
earlier saw her father could be there to give her away. Everything | :05:25. | :05:27.
you see everyone has donated. From the cupcakes to the decorations to | :05:28. | :05:35.
the food, everything. Everyone has deleted it. Just before Christmas | :05:36. | :05:39.
like everyone else I saw something on Facebook and thought, I have a | :05:40. | :05:44.
free Church, I am not doing anything on that Monday, let's see if they | :05:45. | :05:51.
want to get married in the church. I take great pleasure in proclaiming | :05:52. | :05:58.
the Arno husband`and`wife. It was just very important in amazing. Like | :05:59. | :06:02.
I said, last night he had a very bad night and I really did not think he | :06:03. | :06:08.
would be here today but he will keep fighting and he has done it. That he | :06:09. | :06:14.
has what you did the aisle. Yes, that is what she wanted. It is just | :06:15. | :06:20.
great for me. How much did it mean to you to make it here today? I did | :06:21. | :06:29.
not think I would make it today, I wasn't feeling too good at all this | :06:30. | :06:38.
morning. But I have made it. What an amazing, special day. | :06:39. | :06:41.
Criminal lawyers in our region have been protesting over government | :06:42. | :06:44.
plans to cut the legal aid budget by ?220 million. There was a | :06:45. | :06:47.
demonstration outside Oxford Crown Court this morning against the | :06:48. | :06:50.
proposals. Ministers say they need to make savings over the next five | :06:51. | :06:53.
years but lawyers claim their fees could be cut by as much as 30%. | :06:54. | :06:57.
There are also worries the cuts would lead to fewer people being | :06:58. | :07:05.
legally represented. One of the biggest events in the | :07:06. | :07:08.
farming calendar is getting underway in Oxfordshire this evening. The | :07:09. | :07:10.
Oxford Farming Conference sees farmers from around the UK meet to | :07:11. | :07:14.
discuss best practice and debate the challenges they face in the year | :07:15. | :07:17.
ahead. A special report has been written for this year which stresses | :07:18. | :07:21.
the need for new types of investment in the industry. For many people the | :07:22. | :07:25.
New Year is a time of reflection, people come to this farming | :07:26. | :07:28.
conference in January at the start of the year wanting to be | :07:29. | :07:31.
challenged, informed and inspired. They come here thinking about how | :07:32. | :07:34.
they will look at the business for the future, the ideas from the | :07:35. | :07:37.
conference and get going into the New Year. | :07:38. | :07:46.
Lots of us find maths a little scary. Well, a dad from Didcot has | :07:47. | :07:50.
created a new board game with ghostly characters aimed at | :07:51. | :07:52.
encouraging school children to learn through play. It's already gone down | :07:53. | :07:56.
a storm at one school in Oxfordshire, who got the chance to | :07:57. | :07:59.
try it out before Christmas. And as Adina Campbell reports, the game's | :08:00. | :08:02.
now gaining interest from teachers on the other side of the world. | :08:03. | :08:06.
Waiting to find out what in the box, a group of schoolchildren in bloody | :08:07. | :08:08.
are deep in thought about playing a new game with a twist. They are not | :08:09. | :08:11.
just here to have fun, they are huddled together to learn more about | :08:12. | :08:13.
maths. Creator Matthew typically came up with the idea six`month `` | :08:14. | :08:18.
six years ago after his daughter struggled with the subject. I wanted | :08:19. | :08:25.
the game to a low children or players to try and lots of different | :08:26. | :08:28.
mathematics that the new and learn all mathematics, to try different | :08:29. | :08:33.
calculations. The idea of getting that to work in a game that was | :08:34. | :08:37.
enjoyable and fun, that took time. By making it fun he decided to use | :08:38. | :08:42.
zombies, the aim of the game is to fight the living dead by using | :08:43. | :08:47.
different mathematical techniques. This school near Didcot has been | :08:48. | :08:51.
testing the game over the past year and it is now being used in | :08:52. | :08:55.
classrooms. It has not only had interest locally, it has been sold | :08:56. | :08:59.
to a school in New Zealand. It is so hard to learn anything unless you | :09:00. | :09:06.
are relaxed and happy and if you have a new made this voice saying, I | :09:07. | :09:09.
can't do maths or feeling anxious, it will hold you back from taking in | :09:10. | :09:14.
new information. Latest figures show children in achieving slightly above | :09:15. | :09:18.
the national average when it comes to gaining five GCSEs including | :09:19. | :09:22.
English and maths. Boys are more likely to do maths at a level | :09:23. | :09:27.
according to the National database. What do the children here make a" it | :09:28. | :09:35.
encourages you to play, it is not like the teacher encouraging me to | :09:36. | :09:37.
play my DS but she would encourage me to play this. There are not many | :09:38. | :09:42.
games like this but it is great fun. You get advanced levels and normal | :09:43. | :09:46.
levels. After years of work and investing more than 40,000 homes | :09:47. | :09:50.
Matthew is hoping his game will be used in more schools in 2014. | :09:51. | :09:56.
That's all from me for the moment. I'll have the headlines at eight. | :09:57. | :09:59.
With more of today's stories, here's Sally Taylor. | :10:00. | :10:04.
Charity fundraisers are being urged to make sure they take proper | :10:05. | :10:08.
precautions to avoid being targeted by internet scammers. One | :10:09. | :10:12.
Bournemouth family set up a website to raise money for an operation for | :10:13. | :10:16.
their disabled son, but soon found eight fake websites in America | :10:17. | :10:19.
raising money in his name and siphoning off donations made by | :10:20. | :10:25.
unsuspecting well`wishers. Katy Austin reports. | :10:26. | :10:33.
Elliott is six and a half years old, he has cerebral palsy, which affects | :10:34. | :10:42.
his legs. Eliot relies on crutches or a wheelchair to walk. He needs an | :10:43. | :10:47.
operation soon to strengthen his legs. I like to run a lot, to give | :10:48. | :10:56.
me plenty of exercise. And when your legs are better you will be able to | :10:57. | :11:02.
do more. Yes. The operation will cost over ?66,000, fundraising has | :11:03. | :11:09.
gone well but... We found out somebody had copied details from our | :11:10. | :11:15.
website, our first website we set up, and WorldCom mandrake pretending | :11:16. | :11:20.
to be someone else to get money. They have got some of the fake sites | :11:21. | :11:24.
in America" that only after strangers had donated hundreds of | :11:25. | :11:29.
pounds to them. Action Ford says it is hard to tell whether it is | :11:30. | :11:36.
genuine `` fraud. The advice they give is to check a charity is | :11:37. | :11:40.
registered with the charities commission, check the collection is | :11:41. | :11:43.
authorised by their charity and look out for any spelling mistakes in a | :11:44. | :11:49.
fundraising e`mail. A charity is helping them to safely | :11:50. | :11:53.
fund raise online. We would ask all the families that we support and | :11:54. | :11:57.
help to go through a registered charity like ours and use a | :11:58. | :12:15.
respected brand. People living in the Hampshire town | :12:16. | :12:19.
of Yateley are being asked whether or not the local cemetery should | :12:20. | :12:22.
allow decorations and ornaments to be left on graves. Heathlands | :12:23. | :12:25.
Cemetery is officially meant to be laid to lawn with plain headstones, | :12:26. | :12:28.
but some families have embellished the graves of loved ones. For the | :12:29. | :12:32.
second time in two years the town council is attempting to clarify the | :12:33. | :12:35.
rules on an issue which divides opinion. Chrissy Sturt reports. | :12:36. | :12:39.
Heathlands Cemetery, gently warmed by winter sunshine, a place of | :12:40. | :12:45.
tranquillity. But some of those who come regularly to tend the graves of | :12:46. | :12:49.
their loved ones feel far from peace. This is officially a lawn | :12:50. | :12:53.
cemetery and the town council is again consulting on whether | :12:54. | :12:56.
decorations and adornments should be allowed, or cleared away. The grave | :12:57. | :13:08.
of David Cox's father is one of the more elaborate. We should have a | :13:09. | :13:12.
choice, if a person wants grass on their loved ones' graves let them | :13:13. | :13:16.
have grass but if people want to decorate their graves up, I think | :13:17. | :13:20.
they should be able to do it. We would like to go back as it was. We | :13:21. | :13:23.
feel all the time we are in life we feel we can come and look after it. | :13:24. | :13:26.
Warned they were breaking the rules by the council two years, this | :13:27. | :13:29.
couple cleared their daughter's grave. We used to come up in the | :13:30. | :13:34.
summer and I put some plants on it, make it like a garden. I didn't want | :13:35. | :13:38.
them taking our stuff off so I did it. But a lot of other people | :13:39. | :13:43.
haven't done it, that has made us angry. I feel it is not the same. | :13:44. | :13:51.
7,000 questionnaires have been sent to homes in Yateley, asking what | :13:52. | :13:56.
people want the rules to be, then it's up to the town councillors to | :13:57. | :13:59.
make a decision. The solution would be something | :14:00. | :14:03.
everybody feels comfortable with, and reflect the solution everyone | :14:04. | :14:08.
would feel would be the right one. People have until the middle of | :14:09. | :14:14.
February to make their views known. There are warnings that Portsmouth's | :14:15. | :14:17.
Queen Alexandra Hospital is under intense pressure following the | :14:18. | :14:28.
festive period. More than 300 people turned up to A on New Year's Day | :14:29. | :14:32.
alone, exceeding capacity by 10%. There's also been a big influx of | :14:33. | :14:34.
elderly patients with serious chest infections. Another issue is people | :14:35. | :14:37.
who've put off seeking medical help over the holidays. | :14:38. | :14:40.
Now, Inside Out South returns for the New Year tonight. And for the | :14:41. | :14:46.
first programme the team has been looking at cycling in the South and | :14:47. | :14:50.
asking whether the sport has grown out of control. More and more people | :14:51. | :14:53.
have been getting in the saddle since the London Olympics. But the | :14:54. | :14:57.
growth in road races has angered some residents in the New Forest who | :14:58. | :15:00.
say laws are needed to regulate the events. | :15:01. | :15:02.
To see people out trying to go down narrow, single`track planes in mass | :15:03. | :15:06.
numbers as fast as they can, without any regard to anybody else is not | :15:07. | :15:13.
acceptable. It is not some of the extension of the anti`cyclist 's | :15:14. | :15:18.
back gardens, it is a national park for everybody to enjoy. | :15:19. | :15:20.
There's more on Inside Out, tonight at 7.30 on BBC One including a look | :15:21. | :15:24.
behind the scenes during the final days of the historic Jackson's | :15:25. | :15:36.
department store in Reading. A couple of heart`warming stories. FA | :15:37. | :15:40.
Cup third`round weekend, that brings the romantics out because they think | :15:41. | :15:43.
about giant`killing. Two different types of the story, both equally | :15:44. | :15:49.
very good. We will call you about the poor West Ham fan in a moment | :15:50. | :15:53.
but Bournemouth, what about this. They were playing Burton Albion, an | :15:54. | :15:56.
hour and a half it was postponed because of the heavy rain, so | :15:57. | :16:00.
Bournemouth van had a great idea, let's pay for the travel for the | :16:01. | :16:04.
Burton fans to come back again and it has really worked. | :16:05. | :16:06.
David Whitehead's idea quickly spread and by Sunday night he'd | :16:07. | :16:09.
raised almost ?3,000. Dean Court was still showing the | :16:10. | :16:12.
effect of the heavy rain today, but David was given a warm welcome by | :16:13. | :16:15.
the Bournemouth chairman. By Sunday night his idea had seen fans from | :16:16. | :16:19.
around the country raise enough to bring eight coach loads of Burton | :16:20. | :16:27.
fans back down next Tuesday. We had contributions from people | :16:28. | :16:32.
from many club is, Liverpool, full, Tranmere, scum bop, some in Sweden, | :16:33. | :16:39.
all saying the same thing. We are all part of the football family, as | :16:40. | :16:44.
fans we have got a lot in common, nice to help each other out. We | :16:45. | :16:50.
built up an amazing relationship when we had our moments of glory and | :16:51. | :16:55.
people thinking back to that day, why was it so special, all the | :16:56. | :17:01.
staff, the stewards, let us take over the stadium. | :17:02. | :17:10.
It is all the best in football when there is a rich bad news around. The | :17:11. | :17:13.
surplus money will go to charity. Bournemouth were the big winners of | :17:14. | :17:19.
the weekend without even playing. They'll host Liverpool at home in | :17:20. | :17:22.
round four, if they beat the League two side next Tuesday night. Oxford | :17:23. | :17:25.
won't play their tie at Charlton until next Tuesday either, it's been | :17:26. | :17:28.
postponed again tomorrow night. Southampton have a home tie. | :17:29. | :17:32.
And it's at St Mary's where the round up starts with a seven`goal | :17:33. | :17:40.
thriller. Southhampton then's pass seemed smooth thanks to these two | :17:41. | :17:47.
rectangles. But Burnley fought back through Hampshire boys some folks | :17:48. | :17:52.
who was told he was too big by Southampton as a youngster, and | :17:53. | :17:57.
Danny Ings who grew up in Netley. Southampton rescued the type through | :17:58. | :18:01.
a goal from Jay Rodriguez, and although barely pulled one back | :18:02. | :18:06.
after this effort, Saints held out. Reading boss Nigel Adkins said he | :18:07. | :18:12.
had `` hoped uncertainty over the club 's future would be over soon. | :18:13. | :18:19.
MK dons get another crack at the cup holders, they were 2`0 down at Wigan | :18:20. | :18:23.
but then Reeves pulled them back into the game before half`time, with | :18:24. | :18:29.
two side fitted finishes. They missed a penalty and fell behind | :18:30. | :18:32.
again when Alan McManaman scored, but just six minutes were left when | :18:33. | :18:40.
Patrick Bamford completed a scramble to send the type to a replay. `` | :18:41. | :18:45.
send the tie. You may have seen this picture in | :18:46. | :18:49.
the morning papers. Michael Carberry surveys the remains of his bat, and | :18:50. | :18:52.
perhaps his England career. The Hampshire batsman top scored with 43 | :18:53. | :18:55.
as England slumped to a final humiliating defeat as they were | :18:56. | :18:58.
whitewashed in the Ashes series. Carberry's bat breaking summed up | :18:59. | :19:01.
the tour. Despite some reasonable knocks it's thought major changes | :19:02. | :19:04.
will be on the way and that could spell the end of Carberry's test | :19:05. | :19:08.
career. There was a notable victory for | :19:09. | :19:10.
Worthing Thunder basketball club over the weekend. They beat the | :19:11. | :19:14.
league leaders Hemel Storm 85`75 at the Worthing Leisure Centre. Bud | :19:15. | :19:17.
Johnston was on target with a series of three pointers as Thunder downed | :19:18. | :19:21.
the table toppers with a fine display in front of their home fans. | :19:22. | :19:25.
Reading Rockets had a home win over Westminster. Basingstoke bison is | :19:26. | :19:35.
stayed top of ice hockey's Premier League they had victory over | :19:36. | :19:39.
Manchester Phoenix. London Irish will try to bring | :19:40. | :19:42.
Australian star James O'Connor back to the club next season. O'Connor | :19:43. | :19:50.
scored all 22 points as they beat bottom of the table Worcester for | :19:51. | :19:54.
only their third win of the season on Saturday at Reading's Madejski | :19:55. | :19:57.
stadium. He added to this try with five penalties and a conversion. To | :19:58. | :20:04.
our second heart`warming story of the weekend. Maybe you saw this | :20:05. | :20:10.
yesterday, West Ham supporter in tears has his side crashed out of | :20:11. | :20:13.
the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest, the dream of Wembley cup final over in | :20:14. | :20:16.
the competition at least. West Ham saw how distraught he was, and they | :20:17. | :20:21.
have invited him to be a guest in the directors box at a future game. | :20:22. | :20:26.
He takes us through the pain. When they scored, I was like, oh | :20:27. | :20:30.
no, we have two score another goal. Then the second goal I was like, I | :20:31. | :20:42.
am going to grow. So then five, four, three, two, one... The third | :20:43. | :20:50.
goal, again. The fourth goal... The fifth goal... Then at the end... | :20:51. | :21:03.
I am just glad it stopped at five. Paul, Callum. Defeats, they can | :21:04. | :21:15.
really hurt you. They have got a semifinal in the capital one cup. He | :21:16. | :21:19.
might be celebrating again. You might be feeling a little down, | :21:20. | :21:23.
perhaps it was your first day back at work, the weather's rubbish and | :21:24. | :21:26.
the New Year's resolutions are testing your resolve. So here's an | :21:27. | :21:32.
uplifting story for you about a Sri Lankan tea farmer called Lakshman | :21:33. | :21:37.
who lost his leg in an accident. For more than a decade Lakshman's been | :21:38. | :21:41.
getting around on a false limb he fashioned out of tin. That's right, | :21:42. | :21:44.
a homemade metal leg because he couldn't afford a proper prosthetic. | :21:45. | :21:49.
Now a charity run from West Sussex has decided he needs an upgrade. Rob | :21:50. | :21:53.
Powell has the story. Fashioned from tin, this homemade | :21:54. | :21:55.
prosthetic leg looks more like medieval armour than a mobility aid. | :21:56. | :22:01.
It's owner, and maker, is Lakshman, a Sri Lankan tea farmer, now being | :22:02. | :22:04.
helped by the West Sussex charity Extra Cover. | :22:05. | :22:12.
He had a story that would melt anybody's heart, he lost his leg in | :22:13. | :22:16.
a bear trap which was bad enough then a few months later he was | :22:17. | :22:20.
helping his brother built a house and they had to blow up a rock to | :22:21. | :22:25.
make room for it and unfortunately the expression blinded him | :22:26. | :22:26.
completely. Lakshman's wife and teenage son are | :22:27. | :22:29.
also both disabled. The three of them live together in one room, | :22:30. | :22:32.
supported by Lakshman's tea picking and brush making. All carried out | :22:33. | :22:38.
with no eyesight and a homemade leg. There is a foot that is very popular | :22:39. | :22:47.
in Asia, a rubber foot, which is for a lot of people who have lost their | :22:48. | :22:50.
feet in mines and explosions, and I think he gets hold of those and then | :22:51. | :22:56.
he fashions those with the rest of the lake that he makes himself. | :22:57. | :22:59.
Now Matthew, his family, and his charity are raising money to get | :23:00. | :23:02.
Lakshman a new leg, and a new home. Matthew set up the charity Extra | :23:03. | :23:06.
Cover after the Boxing Day Tsunami. Sri Lanka has special significance, | :23:07. | :23:09.
his son Ben had been playing cricket on the island just three days before | :23:10. | :23:14.
the tsunami hit. It is humbling, having that thought | :23:15. | :23:19.
in our heads as dad heads out year in, year out keeps this going, there | :23:20. | :23:24.
is no reason to stop and help is needed. | :23:25. | :23:27.
And they're not going to stop. The next Sri Lanka trip is planned for | :23:28. | :23:30.
February. And for Lakshman, plans are currently being drawn up for his | :23:31. | :23:38.
new home, and his new leg. The poor people in Jalandhar are as | :23:39. | :23:40.
poor as anywhere in the world, but they do make you think what have we | :23:41. | :23:47.
got to worry about? Lax man has made that feel `` made us feel that more | :23:48. | :23:54.
than anyone. His life is bizarre, and we walk away from him and say | :23:55. | :23:57.
why on earth do we worry about anything? It certainly does put | :23:58. | :24:01.
things into perspective. We wish him all the best and | :24:02. | :24:06.
hopefully the charity can help them. Let's move on to the weather. | :24:07. | :24:14.
We are not out of the woods until midweek onwards when we see the | :24:15. | :24:18.
high`pressure turning it more settled. | :24:19. | :24:21.
Barry Goble took this picture of the crashing waves and high tide | :24:22. | :24:24.
Worthing Lido today. Anne Biggins captured the flood water from the | :24:25. | :24:31.
River Avon in Fordingbridge Park. And Harnham Water Meadows and | :24:32. | :24:34.

More rain through the course of the night in the form of torrential | :24:44. | :24:45.
showers. The Met office have issued a weather warning. That is valid | :24:46. | :24:49.
through the course of tonight and tomorrow. We may have another inch | :24:50. | :24:59.
of rain fall. Some torrential downpours, thunderstorms, hail mixed | :25:00. | :25:04.
in. The showers by dawn tomorrow will merge into longer spells of | :25:05. | :25:07.
rain. With the rain there will be some gale force wind gust along the | :25:08. | :25:11.
south coast. With a high tide at the moment the risk of some large waves | :25:12. | :25:17.
on coastal stretches. A mild nights, despite the cloud and rain, | :25:18. | :25:22.
thunderstorms continuing through the day tomorrow. The showers will | :25:23. | :25:29.
gradually ease throughout the day. Some dry conditions, the odd shower. | :25:30. | :25:35.
The wind along the south coast touching gale force. All in all, the | :25:36. | :25:44.
wind will be lighter than today. Another band of rain moves in and | :25:45. | :25:50.
that could produce some heavy rainfall which is why the warning is | :25:51. | :25:53.
still in place tomorrow. Temperatures stay mild. A drier | :25:54. | :26:00.
started the day on Wednesday, but it will not stay that way. Another | :26:01. | :26:03.
weather front moving out from the, the wind stays light `` the | :26:04. | :26:11.
Atlantic. The rain could be torrential and heavy, lasting | :26:12. | :26:13.
through much of the afternoon, into Wednesday evening. Another inch of | :26:14. | :26:18.
rain for a possibility. There isn't a warning as of yet, but the Met | :26:19. | :26:23.
office are keeping a close eye. Stay tuned to the forecast. A lot of rain | :26:24. | :26:36.
tonight in the form of showers. More rain Wednesday night into Thursday. | :26:37. | :26:39.
High`pressure built on Thursday onwards. | :26:40. | :26:45.
We were watching that snow in America last night. | :26:46. | :26:47.
Tomorrow night sees the start of Stargazing Live on BBC Two with | :26:48. | :26:52.
Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain. As well as the TV show, | :26:53. | :26:56.
