Hello and welcome to South Today from Oxford. In tonight's programme:

:00:00.:00:09.

Faster journeys in the future, but the disruption's already started.

:00:10.:00:13.

How the ?1 billion project to bring electric trains to the Great Western

:00:14.:00:16.

Line is causing problems for motorists.

:00:17.:00:20.

Also tonight: Work to build the country's first eco town on this

:00:21.:00:23.

land will finally start in the spring, but is Bicester ready for

:00:24.:00:27.

the expansion? The graveyard in the path of HS2,

:00:28.:00:31.

and the campaign to move the remains of more than 2,000 people to a new

:00:32.:00:36.

location. Later on: how a pasty filled with

:00:37.:00:40.

snails is helping a village commemorate D`day.

:00:41.:00:52.

Good evening. It's a project with a ?1 billion price tag, and promises

:00:53.:00:58.

faster, cleaner trains into London. Work is already underway to

:00:59.:01:02.

electrify the Great Western Line. It could eventually cut journey times

:01:03.:01:05.

by a fifth. But there have already been some complaints about

:01:06.:01:08.

disruption for people using the roads rather than the rails. And,

:01:09.:01:12.

some critics claim the work is already behind schedule. Robin

:01:13.:01:20.

Markwell has the story. Electrifying the 300 miles of

:01:21.:01:23.

railway This is how we'll soon be travelling to London and South

:01:24.:01:25.

Wales. travelling to London and South

:01:26.:01:29.

tired old diesel`powered trains replaced by a faster, more reliable

:01:30.:01:32.

fleet. Journey times and carbon emissions will be slashed. Network

:01:33.:01:35.

Rail's Swindon HQ is the nerve centre for this billion pound

:01:36.:01:40.

project. The new broom at the helm is a Californian, fresh from

:01:41.:01:43.

electrifying the West Coast mainline and redeveloping Reading station.

:01:44.:01:55.

How is it looking today? Personally, I would be excited about

:01:56.:01:58.

what is coming, it will be much better than the system that exists

:01:59.:02:04.

today. It will transform this great Western into a new era of more

:02:05.:02:09.

efficient delivery as we move forward into the next decade.

:02:10.:02:11.

A souped`up version of this machine will lay the overhead cables. It

:02:12.:02:17.

will work nights and weekends to cut down on disruption to rail

:02:18.:02:19.

passengers. But it's those travelling by road who are first

:02:20.:02:22.

noticing a difference. Dozens of bridges are having to be rebuilt or

:02:23.:02:25.

replaced to allow the power`lines through. They've already started in

:02:26.:02:28.

Wiltshire and councillors say they're running late. We have been

:02:29.:02:35.

very disappointed in the preplanning. They have not found the

:02:36.:02:40.

project, they have not considered the conditions or the wildlife

:02:41.:02:45.

living under the bridges. This has led to delays and communities are

:02:46.:02:48.

blocked from using the roads. It is a real problem and the council has

:02:49.:02:51.

had enough. That's disputed by Network Rail, which insists it has

:02:52.:02:55.

carried out the right surveys and has been open with councils about

:02:56.:02:59.

its plans. It was the age of steam that put Swindon on the railway map

:03:00.:03:03.

` now it's hoped electrification could restore that former glory.

:03:04.:03:10.

Around 200 people have been protesting in Oxford over planned

:03:11.:03:13.

cuts to services for homeless people and victims of domestic violence.

:03:14.:03:17.

The County Council needs to save ?93 million by 2018 because it's getting

:03:18.:03:22.

less money from the Government. Some homeless hostels and training

:03:23.:03:24.

projects could have their funding cut by nearly 40%. A final decision

:03:25.:03:29.

on budget cuts is expected next month.

:03:30.:03:39.

These are vulnerable people who need our assistance and our support. I

:03:40.:03:44.

dread to think. There will be such a big chunk of people out there

:03:45.:03:51.

getting no support and potentially their situation is worsening. We

:03:52.:03:53.

can't afford these cuts. If it weren't for these teams that come

:03:54.:04:00.

out, the street services, the hostels, the night shelters, if it

:04:01.:04:03.

wasn't for them, we would have nothing.

:04:04.:04:04.

Meanwhile, more than 2,500 people have responded to plans to reduce

:04:05.:04:07.

the amount of free school transport available for children. Campaigners

:04:08.:04:10.

claim cuts could threaten some rural schools with closure and cause an

:04:11.:04:13.

increase in traffic. Oxfordshire County Council has put forward the

:04:14.:04:17.

proposals to try to save ?1 million. The majority of the responses to the

:04:18.:04:22.

council have been against the idea. A date's been set for work to start

:04:23.:04:27.

on the country's first eco town on the outskirts of Bicester.

:04:28.:04:29.

Developers are expected to begin building on farmland to the north of

:04:30.:04:33.

town towards the end of March. It's part of a three`year project to

:04:34.:04:36.

create an energy efficient community with 5,000 homes. But some

:04:37.:04:40.

campaigners say the town isn't ready for such a big increase in housing

:04:41.:04:43.

and the knock`on effects of extra traffic. Here's Adina Campbell.

:04:44.:04:50.

In just eight weeks, this green space will see a big transformation.

:04:51.:04:55.

It's the moment developers have been waiting for. We know that building

:04:56.:05:02.

work will take place here over the next three years. What are we

:05:03.:05:05.

actually going to see on these fields? We will see 393 super

:05:06.:05:10.

energy`efficient homes built on this area. There will be a primary

:05:11.:05:16.

school, also a business centre to start creating jobs. We will also

:05:17.:05:19.

have shops and offices. But this is just the beginning. There will

:05:20.:05:22.

eventually be 6,000 new homes built here over the next 20 years, as well

:05:23.:05:27.

as an eco pub and allotments. Some of the features include triple

:05:28.:05:30.

glazing, water recycling and solar panels. Apart from the sheep, there

:05:31.:05:40.

is not much to see on these 80 acres of farmland. But, by spring 2015,

:05:41.:05:45.

the first phase of homes will be ready. The whole developer to

:05:46.:05:48.

project has taken five years of planning. Once finished, the idea is

:05:49.:05:50.

to create a top`class environmentally friendly community

:05:51.:05:52.

using energy which releases no carbon emissions. There will be new

:05:53.:05:57.

cycle routes, charging points for electric vehicles and bus services.

:05:58.:06:07.

We have got a whole information system which will give people

:06:08.:06:11.

real`time travel information so they know when the next bus will be, and

:06:12.:06:16.

it will also educate them about the cost of energy and the use of energy

:06:17.:06:20.

within their home. What I do have concerns about is whether the

:06:21.:06:23.

infrastructure will match the needs of what is being put in place. On

:06:24.:06:27.

the whole they will be a lot of congestion. There's also a promise

:06:28.:06:30.

to make big reductions in waste during building work, meaning no

:06:31.:06:33.

rubbish will go to landfill. Only the London 2012 Olympics has

:06:34.:06:36.

achieved this so far in the UK. Developers are now preparing the

:06:37.:06:39.

site, which includes paving the way for new access roads. The main

:06:40.:06:48.

housing work starts in August. The Chancellor George Osborne has

:06:49.:06:51.

announced a ?67 million science investment for Oxfordshire to

:06:52.:06:56.

develop world leading technology. The money will go into four centres,

:06:57.:07:00.

including Harwell. Each will work with small businesses on scientific

:07:01.:07:04.

research. The Government's pledging ?30 million ` the rest will come

:07:05.:07:07.

from universities, local authorities and the private sector. The scheme,

:07:08.:07:12.

part of the City Deal, could create up to 1,800 permanent jobs.

:07:13.:07:18.

University lecturers have staged a walk`out today in the latest of a

:07:19.:07:22.

series of strikes over a pay offer. Members of the University and

:07:23.:07:25.

College Union went on strike for two hours this afternoon, holding a

:07:26.:07:29.

rally at St Giles and opposite Keble College. The union says a below

:07:30.:07:33.

inflation rise of 1% is unacceptable. The University of

:07:34.:07:37.

Oxford says it respects the rights of individuals to protest and put

:07:38.:07:39.

contingency plans in place for students and staff.

:07:40.:07:45.

Campaigners are fighting to save a graveyard in Buckinghamshire from

:07:46.:07:48.

demolition if the new HS2 rail link goes ahead. The graves sit beside

:07:49.:07:53.

the old Stoke Mandeville Church, which was destroyed in 1966.

:07:54.:07:59.

Archaeologists say more than 2,500 people are buried there and they

:08:00.:08:02.

want the church ruins and graves moved to a new location. Sinead

:08:03.:08:07.

Carroll reports. Moss covered, but not forgotten.

:08:08.:08:11.

This Buckinghamshire graveyard is the latest site to be affected by

:08:12.:08:21.

plans for HS2. If the planned HS2 does go ahead, then it will cut

:08:22.:08:24.

through these trees, across the field, right through here, and into

:08:25.:08:28.

this woodland area where we are standing. A site of a church first

:08:29.:08:35.

built in 1190. What you have here is the church site itself, which is a

:08:36.:08:39.

mound of rubble in the background now, and it cemetery. We estimate

:08:40.:08:46.

this cemetery contains 2600 people minimum. Adjacent to the church,

:08:47.:08:49.

there is a possible site of a manor house, and also a water mill which

:08:50.:08:56.

is mentioned in the Domesday book, and the original fridge of Stoke

:08:57.:08:59.

Mandeville. Campaigners say, if HS2 Limited is going to build here, the

:09:00.:09:02.

area should receive compensation, just as you would if your house was

:09:03.:09:05.

demolished. So protestors are calling for a structure to house and

:09:06.:09:12.

display the remains. This is not just a question of moving a few

:09:13.:09:16.

headstones. These are the remains of people, many of them long`term

:09:17.:09:20.

inhabitants of Buckinghamshire, who have families who still live here

:09:21.:09:23.

and care about these people. This is personal to a lot of people. HS2

:09:24.:09:27.

gave us this statement in response saying, "We are keenly aware of the

:09:28.:09:30.

need to protect our heritage and will continue talking to the local

:09:31.:09:33.

community about a specific reburial site and display. It is subject to a

:09:34.:09:37.

set of binding commitments relating to the historic environment." The

:09:38.:09:39.

consultation on the Environmental impact of HS2 closes next month.

:09:40.:09:49.

That's all from me for the moment. I'll have the headlines at 8pm and a

:09:50.:09:53.

full bulletin at 10:25pm. Now, more of today's stories with Sally

:09:54.:09:54.

Taylor. focus instead on providing a

:09:55.:10:04.

specialist carer service to enable children to be looked after in their

:10:05.:10:08.

own homes. Still to come this evening:

:10:09.:10:15.

25 runners for 25 years. The Great South Run celebrates a quarter of a

:10:16.:10:16.

century. Visitors to Stonehenge have

:10:17.:10:28.

discovered a loophole at the World Heritage Site, saving a long walk

:10:29.:10:31.

and sometimes even getting in for free. A new visitor centre a mile

:10:32.:10:36.

and a half away opened before Christmas, prompting complains ``

:10:37.:10:42.

complaints about the distance. Today the old tourist facilities were

:10:43.:10:46.

demolished and the site next to the monument will be grassed over.

:10:47.:10:52.

Demolished at last. This has been the goal of English Heritage since

:10:53.:10:59.

the 1980s. The buildings here have been too

:11:00.:11:04.

small, too ugly, too close to one of the world's most famous ancient

:11:05.:11:10.

monuments. Soon, like the road alongside, it will be grassed over,

:11:11.:11:14.

only a small security building and some toilets will remain.

:11:15.:11:20.

It's the end of an era really. It's served its purpose, so I am

:11:21.:11:26.

permanently pleased to see it going because reuniting Stonehenge in its

:11:27.:11:29.

grass land setting will be absolutely fantastic.

:11:30.:11:32.

The new visitor centre is a mile and a half away over the hill. The idea

:11:33.:11:38.

is to give Stonehenge a more tranquil setting with less intrusion

:11:39.:11:43.

by 21st century life. Until last month, tourists had to

:11:44.:11:48.

pass through a turnstile and enter via a tunnel beneath the road. But

:11:49.:11:53.

not any more. Now, they are simply strolling in.

:11:54.:11:59.

And that creates another problem. This's a public rite of way

:12:00.:12:06.

alongside and anyone can turn off the A303 and park there. In the wet,

:12:07.:12:13.

winter weather, the by`way is being badly damaged by lots of cars.

:12:14.:12:16.

Instead of a three`mile round trip from the car park, it's a one`minute

:12:17.:12:21.

walk and some people have used it to get in for free.

:12:22.:12:30.

It's actually the old road to Larkhill Army Camp. It ran through

:12:31.:12:33.

the outer circle of the ancient monument in the First World War.

:12:34.:12:38.

Closing it would not be easy. Alongside, the A303 suffers frequent

:12:39.:12:43.

congestion, the biggest bottleneck on the main route to the South West.

:12:44.:12:48.

Yet, another consultation is getting under way this week, the Roads

:12:49.:12:52.

Minister's met Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall councils to begin

:12:53.:12:57.

a long debate about how to improve it.

:12:58.:13:03.

A man has been taken to hospital after suffering burps at a

:13:04.:13:08.

Chichester dentist. Police believe he set himself on fire using

:13:09.:13:12.

cigarette lighter fluid. The fire was confine toed the man's clothing

:13:13.:13:15.

with no damage caused to the surgery.

:13:16.:13:18.

There was anger at an emergency council meeting in Poole after

:13:19.:13:22.

politicians voted in favour of setting up temporary sites for

:13:23.:13:27.

travellers. Poole doesn't have any official transit camps, making it

:13:28.:13:32.

harder to move illegal encampments. Last night, councillors voted to

:13:33.:13:38.

push ahead with sites. Residents were not consulted properly, it's

:13:39.:13:43.

being said. The councillors don't seem to be living in the real world.

:13:44.:13:49.

To spend taxpayers' money, ?250,000 on laying a bit of gravel down on a

:13:50.:13:54.

site that is totally unsuitable for anybody to live on, it just amazes

:13:55.:14:01.

me. Michael Fallon was in the City today

:14:02.:14:05.

talking to key political and business leaders. His appointment

:14:06.:14:09.

followed the decision in November to move navy shipbuilding to Scotland

:14:10.:14:13.

with the closure of the BAE Systems yard, causing hundreds of job

:14:14.:14:17.

losses. He says he is determined to bring new jobs and growth to

:14:18.:14:20.

Portsmouth. Top of the list is to listen and to

:14:21.:14:24.

learn and I'm talking to a lot of the people who matter in this city,

:14:25.:14:30.

to the local leaders and I want to hear for myself how they see

:14:31.:14:33.

Portsmouth's future. Along the south coast, we are lucky

:14:34.:14:38.

enough to have hundreds of these beautiful beach huts nestling side

:14:39.:14:42.

by side along the seafront. For many, they are a home from home, a

:14:43.:14:45.

place to spend a few hours watching the world go by in. One Dorset town,

:14:46.:14:50.

there's a question over whether the decoration on some of the structures

:14:51.:14:54.

is in keeping with the feel of the area.

:14:55.:15:00.

Picture perfect postcards of the south. The holiday dreams which

:15:01.:15:06.

tease our loved ones back at home. For Gordon and Janet, that dream is

:15:07.:15:10.

a reality. Mediterranean blue skies,

:15:11.:15:15.

sometimes... And a Butterscotch beach hut. Home from home. Their

:15:16.:15:21.

haven is causing controversy because of its design though. According to

:15:22.:15:32.

the council rule hut `` council rules, huts have to be painted

:15:33.:15:36.

mostly blue. Stripes and icons are not permitted.

:15:37.:15:40.

We've perhaps not quite stuck to the rules in as much that we have put

:15:41.:15:45.

these graphics on the front of the hut. We did this five years ago.

:15:46.:15:51.

We've only ever had compliments. Every time we come down, somebody

:15:52.:15:55.

will take a photo of it. They'll ask us to move, we've even had a wedding

:15:56.:16:00.

party come down and had a whole series of photographs taken in front

:16:01.:16:05.

of our hut. Which is lovely! In a statement, Christchurch Borough

:16:06.:16:08.

Council said: The council seems to be against the

:16:09.:16:37.

tide of public opinion. It's a very cheering nautical

:16:38.:16:41.

appearance. I think it fits in lovely with the area and can't see

:16:42.:16:45.

why they'd want to change it. It's clean, fresh, nicely painted.

:16:46.:16:50.

Correct. No problem with that. When you look along the line of the beach

:16:51.:16:53.

huts and some don't look in a particularly good state, it's much

:16:54.:16:57.

better than the rest of them. Gordon and Janet are hoping the council

:16:58.:17:03.

will consider relaxing the policy. A consultation is being held on 26th

:17:04.:17:06.

February. Perhaps a pot of paint lies at the end of the rainbow.

:17:07.:17:16.

You may have a view on that. Let us know. It is a busy night for

:17:17.:17:19.

football with all our local teams in action. Southampton host the Premier

:17:20.:17:25.

League leaders Arsenal at St Mary's. They lie ninth in the table but it's

:17:26.:17:29.

over a decade since they beat the Gunners at home. We will try to win

:17:30.:17:34.

the game. One of our strengths is that we go into the game believing

:17:35.:17:39.

we can win. Full commentary on the match on BBC Radio Solent and Adam

:17:40.:17:43.

Blackmore joins us from the ground now. Are they good enough to cause a

:17:44.:17:46.

surprise and beat the league leaders? Well, they are on their

:17:47.:17:50.

day, but there's no doubt it's going to be tough. When the two sides met

:17:51.:17:54.

in move at the etch rats, Arsenal were top and Saints stared at the

:17:55.:18:00.

time in the Premier League. That 2`0 defeat from the side precipitated a

:18:01.:18:07.

downturn in fortunes `` at the Emirates.

:18:08.:18:11.

The task is certainly a sizeable one for Saints, especially with the

:18:12.:18:14.

squad stretched through injury and suspension.

:18:15.:18:18.

Just waiting for the official team news. Ricky Lambert struck welling a

:18:19.:18:27.

hamstring injury. `` struggling with a hamstring injury.

:18:28.:18:32.

Thank you very much. There's a full league programme

:18:33.:18:41.

tonight in the Championship, Bournemouth host Huddersfield.

:18:42.:18:48.

Alan Smith's signed a three`and`a`half year contract with

:18:49.:18:52.

Bournemouth today, but the deal came too late for the 22`year`old to be

:18:53.:18:57.

available for tonight's home game. Smith's previously been on loan in

:18:58.:19:04.

the 2011`12 season. In League One, MK Dons travel to

:19:05.:19:20.

Carlisle and Swindon are two places off the play`offs and travel to

:19:21.:19:24.

Walsall. In League Two, managerless Oxford

:19:25.:19:28.

United are away at Exeter. Chris Wilder left at the weekend and was

:19:29.:19:32.

appointed Northampton manager on Monday. He was set to be out of

:19:33.:19:37.

contract this summer. He'd been there for five years. The

:19:38.:19:40.

46`year`old leaves Oxford sixth this League Two.

:19:41.:19:45.

Portsmouth are on the road at Wycombe. Riche Barker says the

:19:46.:19:51.

team's away record has been sun acceptable `` unacceptable.

:19:52.:19:55.

They have won just once away in the league this season.

:19:56.:20:02.

It may be nine months away, but I bet you are training already. It's

:20:03.:20:10.

this year's Great South Run. The event was launched in Portsmouth and

:20:11.:20:15.

this year it's the 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a runner from

:20:16.:20:20.

each of the past 24 years took part in a special photo shoot at the

:20:21.:20:26.

Spinnaker Tower. The dramatic landscape provided the backdrop for

:20:27.:20:29.

a celebration for something that's become a landmark event. At the

:20:30.:20:33.

Spinnaker Tower, they were launch the Great South Run. It's the 25th

:20:34.:20:37.

anniversary and today a runner from each of the past 24 years took part

:20:38.:20:41.

in the special commemorative gathering.

:20:42.:20:45.

The first Great South Run was held in Southampton in 1990 with 2,000

:20:46.:20:50.

runners. It moved to Portsmouth the following year and now attracts

:20:51.:20:55.

25,000 participants and is Europe's biggest road race with many famous

names including Mo Farah who won in 2009. Some here today such as

:21:01.:21:05.

72`year`old Phillip have run in all 24 races.

:21:06.:21:10.

It's fantastic. It's a flat run, easy compared to some. It's not

:21:11.:21:16.

hilly. It's the atmosphere of it really, it's great and there are

:21:17.:21:19.

crowds of people around all cheering you on. It's a happy occasion. Over

:21:20.:21:25.

the years, the race has attracted many celebrities such as blank Bruno

:21:26.:21:30.

and former Portsmouth university student Ben Fogle, as well as

:21:31.:21:35.

countless more anonymous runners in fancy dress which seemed a good idea

:21:36.:21:39.

at the planning stage down the pub. Starting to warm up a bit. I might

:21:40.:21:44.

be struggling soon. The sponsored runners have helped raise over ?30

:21:45.:21:48.

million over the years and today, the man who was the honorary race

:21:49.:21:52.

starter in 2010 praised their efforts.

:21:53.:21:56.

Haven't got to be first. If you take part and finish, what a fantastic

:21:57.:22:00.

feat that is, but at the same time, if you'd been supported by people

:22:01.:22:05.

who're putting money in to the charities, what more could you ask?

:22:06.:22:12.

The organisers are planning a 25`gun salute and asking for photos of past

:22:13.:22:16.

races which they'll display on the events screen this October.

:22:17.:22:25.

Among the famous faces today. Somebody we know very familiar to

:22:26.:22:31.

us. There she is, one of the runners representing 25 years. Which was

:22:32.:22:35.

your year? 2010. It's good with all those people there? It's amazing and

:22:36.:22:40.

very fast. One of the fastest. Look, who is that? ! It's you. I wasn't

:22:41.:22:45.

there today. I wasn't unvitaled. There are a Faw of us. That was the

:22:46.:22:50.

first run in 1990. Gosh, I looked young. I also look very fit and

:22:51.:22:55.

well. Still time to do it this year.

:22:56.:23:00.

What you need is a good pasty to eat which takes us nicely on to the next

:23:01.:23:05.

story. Events will take place to mark the 70th anniversary of the

:23:06.:23:16.

war. The commander General Eisenhower set

:23:17.:23:20.

up a HQ in Southwark where people are already getting a taste of the

:23:21.:23:27.

commemorations to come. Something a little different has

:23:28.:23:30.

been coming out of the ovens as the village prepares to celebrate a

:23:31.:23:37.

special anniversary. Customers have been sampling three recipes just

:23:38.:23:43.

like the official D`Day pasty. We have the resistance which includes

:23:44.:23:47.

snail, the Russian pasty which was spam, oatmeal and various other

:23:48.:23:50.

vegetables that you could get in the day. The winner was the Churchill

:23:51.:23:56.

pasty which is British beef, a red wine beef casserole one side of the

:23:57.:24:02.

pasty and normal the other side. The Churchill pasty. Two actually, not

:24:03.:24:07.

both for myself. The spam one will be fantastic. Not sure about the

:24:08.:24:13.

snail but the spam definitely. The military in 1944 couldn't move for

:24:14.:24:17.

forces preparing for a significant date.

:24:18.:24:20.

NEWSREEL: The dawn of June 6th comes over... The villagers then didn't

:24:21.:24:25.

really know what was going on. My mother lived here, she was 13 at the

:24:26.:24:29.

time, a farmer's daughter. She lived in a farmhouse at the bottom of the

:24:30.:24:34.

village and in camps there were British troops, the offers would

:24:35.:24:40.

come in to have fresh running water. The privates would share the water

:24:41.:24:44.

dipped from the river. They knew there was something big about to

:24:45.:24:47.

take place but they had no idea it was leading up to D`Day. The entire

:24:48.:24:52.

invasion was run from here, so 70 years on, Southwark has much to

:24:53.:24:57.

celebrate. One idea is to record the recktions of those here back in

:24:58.:25:01.

1944. For an exhibition and hopefully a book to keep alive the

:25:02.:25:06.

memories of the times when this tiny village played such a crucial role

:25:07.:25:07.

in world history. The 70th anniversary commemorations

:25:08.:25:21.

coming up over the coming months. Now the weather.

:25:22.:25:26.

Stay tuned to the forecast. Ken Rayner captured the Wilton windmill

:25:27.:25:29.

south of Hungerford in`between the showers.

:25:30.:25:35.

Mark Steel took this photograph of the Winterborn Stickland.

:25:36.:25:41.

Weather warnings for more rain at the moment.

:25:42.:25:45.

Dorset, the Isle of Wight, West Sussex, Surrey and Wiltshire with.

:25:46.:25:49.

Other areas will be affected. The rain will affect much of the region.

:25:50.:25:53.

We are expecting some showers with perhaps hail and thunder. They could

:25:54.:25:57.

be on the heavy side lasting through much of the night.

:25:58.:26:01.

Temperatures fall to a chilly four to five Celsius but remain above

:26:02.:26:06.

freezing. There is a brisk wind. Tomorrow is generally a grey and

:26:07.:26:11.

damp day, all in all. We are expecting rain, further showers,

:26:12.:26:15.

hail and thunder throughout the day and wintry showers. We could have a

:26:16.:26:18.

dusting of snow over the Chilterns, the Berkshire Downs and the

:26:19.:26:22.

Cotswolds with temperatures rising to a chilly five Celsius in some

:26:23.:26:26.

parts in Oxfordshire. Along the south coast, a high of seven to

:26:27.:26:30.

eight. The brisk easterly will take the edge off temperatures tomorrow.

:26:31.:26:37.

The Wimbledon tri`` wintry showers continue tomorrow. A yellow weather

:26:38.:26:39.

warning out for that. Where we have had the showers, the

:26:40.:26:51.

big risk of ice on untreated surfaces. A drier start to the day

:26:52.:26:55.

on Thursday, but a quieter day, although probably the coldest day of

:26:56.:26:58.

the winter so far. The winds will be lighter than recent days, but it

:26:59.:27:02.

will be chilly and generally quite a cloudy day. Then we are looking

:27:03.:27:06.

ahead to Friday and Saturday with this next weather feature pushing in

:27:07.:27:10.

from the Atlantic courtesy of an area of low pressure and that could

:27:11.:27:15.

bring some significant amounts of rain, perhaps up to an inch through

:27:16.:27:18.

the course of Friday and through Saturday. A lot of weather warnings.

:27:19.:27:22.

Stay tuned to the website for the latest information. Rain warning

:27:23.:27:26.

overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow. An ice warning

:27:27.:27:31.

tomorrow and further rain warnings Friday and Saturday with thundery

:27:32.:27:34.

showers. Relentless! Thank you very much. A

:27:35.:27:39.

peak inside the facilities of Broadmoor. Join us tomorrow at 6.
