Hello and welcome to South Today from Oxford. In tonight's | :00:00. | :00:00.
programme... ?64 million of council cuts are | :00:07. | :00:10.
voted through in Oxfordshire. Council tax will rise by 2% ` the | :00:11. | :00:13.
maximum allowed without a referendum. | :00:14. | :00:17.
Also tonight, it's a condition that can cause pain and disability. One | :00:18. | :00:21.
in five children have flat feet ` now it's hoped technology will help | :00:22. | :00:25.
predict which of them will need surgery. | :00:26. | :00:29.
Training the teachers ` how instructors are learning new ways to | :00:30. | :00:33.
help young drivers stay safe on the roads. And later on, and the unusual | :00:34. | :00:39.
sight of a soggy moggy ` why a dip in the pool is good for this cat's | :00:40. | :00:41.
health. Good evening. ?64 million of new | :00:42. | :00:59.
cuts in Oxfordshire have been voted through today. The County Council | :01:00. | :01:02.
approved the proposals at their meeting at County Hall earlier. It's | :01:03. | :01:05.
announced that council tax is set to rise and there'll be less money for | :01:06. | :01:10.
housing support. Our political reporter, Helen Catt, is outside | :01:11. | :01:13.
county hall there and joins us now. Helen, was this a foregone | :01:14. | :01:15.
conclusion? Yes and no. These plans have been | :01:16. | :01:20.
worked on for many months. There have been public consultations, | :01:21. | :01:24.
there will be talks in oxygen. Other parties have had their opportunity | :01:25. | :01:29.
to chip in as well. In the end, it was a tight vote, just three votes | :01:30. | :01:36.
in it, 30 227. `` 30`27. What does this mean? The first place we will | :01:37. | :01:45.
notice it is in our council tax payments. It is going up by 1.99%. | :01:46. | :01:51.
It will be more money set aside for personal care visits. For example, | :01:52. | :01:56.
?800,000 will go into that to make sure they last at least 30 minutes | :01:57. | :01:59.
and not 15. There will be more money for flooding, ?400,000 in that. All | :02:00. | :02:08.
in all, there will be about six to ?4 million `` ?64 million in cuts. I | :02:09. | :02:15.
asked one counsellor what people would think of that. Governments of | :02:16. | :02:20.
all political persuasions have cut the budget coming forward. The | :02:21. | :02:25.
county council has been subsidising the city council and district | :02:26. | :02:30.
council for they as macro for the core funding. We have two prioritise | :02:31. | :02:36.
and that is what we have done today. There was also some vocal criticism | :02:37. | :02:40.
for central government for making the cuts to counsel's budgets that | :02:41. | :02:45.
they have to pass on. It was called a direct attack on local government. | :02:46. | :02:54.
Across the country, local government has been put in an untenable | :02:55. | :03:00.
position. They are determined that the deficit will be reduced by | :03:01. | :03:04.
sweating it out of local authorities. Of course, a lot of the | :03:05. | :03:10.
detail is still not known. It has been passed in principle. For | :03:11. | :03:16.
example, it needs to save ?3 million from children's centres. How that | :03:17. | :03:19.
will happen will be decided through a review which has not happened yet, | :03:20. | :03:23.
so we still don't know that the tail. Thank you. `` the detail. | :03:24. | :03:30.
A man's appeared before magistrates, charged with the murder of a teenage | :03:31. | :03:34.
boy in Oxford. 17`year`old Connor Tremble was stabbed in Fairacres | :03:35. | :03:38.
Road on Thursday night. He died in hospital on Saturday. 20`year`old | :03:39. | :03:41.
William Blencowe, from Banbury, is accused of killing him. He'll appear | :03:42. | :03:44.
at Oxford Crown Court tomorrow. Two Oxfordshire scrap metal dealers | :03:45. | :03:47.
who were found guilty of concealing, disguising or converting stolen | :03:48. | :03:49.
property have had their sentences overturned on appeal. Simon Rogers | :03:50. | :03:53.
and Martin Pace had received fines following an eight`week trial at | :03:54. | :03:57.
Oxford Crown Court but a judge has ruled the offences were | :03:58. | :04:01.
unsustainable in law. The pair worked at T R Rogers Sons in | :04:02. | :04:05.
Nuneham Courtenay. Three other employees ` Terence Rogers, Ian | :04:06. | :04:08.
Marshall and Darren Andrews ` were already acquitted of the same | :04:09. | :04:11.
charges. One in five children have flat feet. | :04:12. | :04:15.
For some, the condition will have little impact but for other children | :04:16. | :04:19.
it can lead to serious pain and disability. Now an Oxford researcher | :04:20. | :04:22.
is using motion technology to assess children and predict which may need | :04:23. | :04:28.
surgery. Sinead Carroll reports. Motion capture technology ` we're | :04:29. | :04:32.
used to seeing it used in films, commercials and video games but now | :04:33. | :04:35.
it's helping children with flat feet. We have special cameras which | :04:36. | :04:43.
pick up the positions of markers which we stick on the limbs of | :04:44. | :04:48.
children coming into the lab. We get them doing various things in front | :04:49. | :04:51.
of the camera and then we get an idea of how the child's is moving `` | :04:52. | :05:00.
how the child is moving. We also have special plates that measure the | :05:01. | :05:04.
pressure is and forces affecting their joints. A fifth of children | :05:05. | :05:07.
have flat feet. 11`year`old Hector is one of the more severe cases. It | :05:08. | :05:11.
has stop me playing with my friends. I cannot run that fast, so it is | :05:12. | :05:19.
difficult for me to join in. The pain is like a firework, it shoots | :05:20. | :05:26.
through my foot. The more I use my feet that day, the worse the pain | :05:27. | :05:29.
gets. 78 children have already taken part in this research at the Oxford | :05:30. | :05:33.
Centre for Enablement. It's funded by a charity called Action Medical | :05:34. | :05:39.
Research. A big leave because we have known all along that there was | :05:40. | :05:42.
something wrong. Jordan are genuinely in pain and complain about | :05:43. | :05:45.
it. They do not make it up, they are in pain. To be told a queue times | :05:46. | :05:50.
over the years that he would grow out of it or he was doing too much | :05:51. | :05:54.
or pretty much ignored, it is just such a relief. We now know he was | :05:55. | :06:00.
suffering, truly, and something is now being done. The project enables | :06:01. | :06:03.
children like Hector to get quick diagnosis and, hopefully, avoid | :06:04. | :06:06.
surgery. So now that Hector is getting the care he needs, what's | :06:07. | :06:14.
his aim? Running the marathon. The research will continue until next | :06:15. | :06:18.
year. More than ?40,000 has been paid out | :06:19. | :06:22.
to motorists in Oxfordshire for damage to their cars caused by | :06:23. | :06:25.
potholes in the past ten months. The road attracting the most claims was | :06:26. | :06:28.
the B4526 in Goring Heath, with seven in the past three months. The | :06:29. | :06:34.
same road also had the largest single claim, which was just under | :06:35. | :06:39.
?4,000. Plans for London Welsh Rugby team to | :06:40. | :06:42.
move to Witney have been approved. The club wants to relocate, in time | :06:43. | :06:46.
for next season, to the former ground of Witney Town Football Club. | :06:47. | :06:49.
They currently play at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford. The plan was | :06:50. | :06:52.
submitted to West Oxfordshire District Council for approval. It | :06:53. | :06:55.
includes erecting a 10,000`seater stand at the ground. Now the club | :06:56. | :07:01.
has to go to the Professional Game Board for Rugby Union for final | :07:02. | :07:08.
approval. It is a major investment in the area. There is a lot of | :07:09. | :07:14.
confidence from the London Welsh. From our point of view, we look | :07:15. | :07:19.
forward to having elite rugby here. It will bring benefits to the | :07:20. | :07:22.
economy and tourism etc. Driving instructors in | :07:23. | :07:24.
Buckinghamshire have been taking part in a new training course aimed | :07:25. | :07:28.
at helping young people stay safe on the roads. They've been learning | :07:29. | :07:31.
about how to give feedback more effectively and different coaching | :07:32. | :07:34.
techniques. It's hoped that by improving teaching standards, more | :07:35. | :07:36.
17`to`24`year`olds will make better decisions while driving. Adina | :07:37. | :07:39.
Campbell has been to Aylesbury to find out more. | :07:40. | :07:48.
Hello, nice to meet you. I understand you will give me a few | :07:49. | :07:51.
tips. A lesson in safety. Ian Edwards | :07:52. | :07:54.
works for a company which runs driving awareness courses to | :07:55. | :08:00.
thousands of people each year. Today, he is in Aylesbury, it | :08:01. | :08:04.
encouraging instructors to think differently about the way they | :08:05. | :08:11.
teach. There has been a lot of research done over the last few | :08:12. | :08:14.
years in driver education that has really identified that | :08:15. | :08:17.
self`evaluation skills are a critical skill in the development of | :08:18. | :08:21.
young people and also in their development in driving, their | :08:22. | :08:26.
risk`taking profile. Road safety teams and councillors in | :08:27. | :08:29.
Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes are behind this new course, | :08:30. | :08:32.
particularly aimed at people under 25. The idea is to help reduce the | :08:33. | :08:37.
number of young drivers hand on our roads. They will be a time when you | :08:38. | :08:42.
are sitting in that driving seat alone, without any instructor beside | :08:43. | :08:50.
you and you need to take on board that he will be entirely responsible | :08:51. | :08:53.
for the safety of yourself and that vehicle. Latest Dublin figures show | :08:54. | :08:58.
that more than a fifth of deaths on UK roads in 2011 involved people | :08:59. | :09:05.
aged between 17 and 24. In Buckinghamshire alone, young drivers | :09:06. | :09:07.
make up more than a quarter of all people killed or seriously injured. | :09:08. | :09:12.
You must push your instructors are no that they are giving the best | :09:13. | :09:22.
destruction in possible `` the best instruction possible. That is the | :09:23. | :09:26.
only training you will get for the next 40 or 60 years. From April, all | :09:27. | :09:30.
driving instructors will be assessed about how they give lessons as part | :09:31. | :09:34.
of a standards check. Things like how well they give feedback and how | :09:35. | :09:38.
is they listen to the person they are teaching. | :09:39. | :09:44.
If you would like to get in touch with us here at Saturday to does a | :09:45. | :09:46.
story you think we should be covering, our address is on the | :09:47. | :09:53.
screen. That's all from me for the moment. | :09:54. | :09:57.
I'll have the headlines at 8pm and a full bulletin at 10:25pm. Now more | :09:58. | :10:00.
of today's stories with Sally Taylor. | :10:01. | :10:03.
bidding for the franchise is underway. | :10:04. | :10:06.
Still to come in this evening's South Today... | :10:07. | :10:09.
Doing the cat flap ` but it's all for the good of his health. | :10:10. | :10:25.
Six people have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to illegally | :10:26. | :10:28.
enter the UK after a lorry was pulled over on the A27 near | :10:29. | :10:31.
Chichester. The road, at Tangmere, was closed just before 1pm while | :10:32. | :10:35.
officers carried out a search of the Italian`registered lorry. Sussex | :10:36. | :10:37.
Police say the six people arrested are believed to be from Eritrea in | :10:38. | :10:42.
Africa. Many of our communities have felt the effects of the floods in | :10:43. | :10:46.
recent weeks, and it could be months before they start to see any | :10:47. | :10:49.
improvement. It's raised concerns about where we build new houses, and | :10:50. | :10:53.
what effect it has when we have such heavy rain. In one area in | :10:54. | :10:56.
Hampshire, a special drainage system appears to be improving things. A | :10:57. | :11:02.
housing development site in Waterlooville has installed SUDS, or | :11:03. | :11:04.
sustainable srainage systems, which slows the rate of water run`off into | :11:05. | :11:11.
our rivers and reduces flooding. Dani Sinha has been finding out | :11:12. | :11:17.
more. Laying the foundations for new homes | :11:18. | :11:22.
in Waterlooville, but what makes this housing development different | :11:23. | :11:26.
is the way it has been planned. Various drainage systems have been | :11:27. | :11:32.
laid and to prevent future flooding. This forethought consists of | :11:33. | :11:35.
hundreds of drainage ditches. Water runs up the road into gullies, it is | :11:36. | :11:40.
sent into the ground and any overflow is carried away in types. | :11:41. | :11:45.
Storage ponds and a dry basin also collect the water. It is certainly | :11:46. | :11:49.
part of the solution. There is no doubt at all that putting | :11:50. | :11:54.
sustainable drainage in new developments will hold back the | :11:55. | :11:57.
water, reduce the risk of flooding downstream, and we need to see more | :11:58. | :12:01.
of it to combat the things we have seen over the last couple of months. | :12:02. | :12:06.
This area is one that is prone to flooding. When there has been heavy | :12:07. | :12:09.
rainfall, it spills out onto the road. This is where two streams | :12:10. | :12:19.
meet. Now, despite the fact we have seen the worst rainfall here for 250 | :12:20. | :12:26.
years, this land has seen an improvement when it comes to | :12:27. | :12:30.
flooding. We do not think you have had the floods here, or any more | :12:31. | :12:35.
frequently than we have had in the last 40 years. So, I am assuming | :12:36. | :12:41.
that the work they are doing at Waterlooville is making some | :12:42. | :12:44.
difference. Similar drainage systems may be made compulsory in the | :12:45. | :12:49.
future, but some developers may be opposed to it, due to the expense | :12:50. | :12:54.
and the need for open spaces. One of the key routes through Romsey | :12:55. | :12:57.
badly affected by flooding has been partially reopened today. The | :12:58. | :13:01.
entrance to Budds Lane and the nearby industrial park is now | :13:02. | :13:04.
passable with care. Two concrete bollards have been inserted into the | :13:05. | :13:07.
remaining floodwater to reduce the speed of traffic, and will allow one | :13:08. | :13:11.
vehicle to pass at a time. Greatbridge Road, south of the | :13:12. | :13:18.
railway bridge, remains closed. For the first time in Bournemouth | :13:19. | :13:21.
Air Festival history, it's been confirmed, the Red Arrows will be | :13:22. | :13:27.
performing on all four days. As part of its 50th anniversary display | :13:28. | :13:29.
season, the Diamond Nine's schedule will see the Hawk jets take to the | :13:30. | :13:34.
skies on each day of the show, which is being held over the last four | :13:35. | :13:37.
days of August. Today, the team also unveiled a new Union Flag tail fin | :13:38. | :13:45.
to mark its anniversary. That coming up in August, we look | :13:46. | :13:47.
forward to it. A parenting charity is campaigning | :13:48. | :13:50.
for a simple procedure, that is available in Southampton, to be | :13:51. | :13:53.
available across the country. Babies born with the condition tongue tie | :13:54. | :13:56.
can have problems with breast`feeding. The birth defect | :13:57. | :13:59.
means the tongue is connected too tightly to the bottom of the mouth | :14:00. | :14:03.
and can be easily treated. Jane Dreaper reports. | :14:04. | :14:13.
Baby Reuben is two and a half months old. His mother is breast`feeding | :14:14. | :14:19.
him, but it has been difficult. Reuben's tongue cannot move easily | :14:20. | :14:22.
and this affects his feeding. But unlike what happens when you feed | :14:23. | :14:30.
him? He gets tired halfway through. There local hospital in Southampton | :14:31. | :14:34.
as a clinic which specialises in treating the condition. Baby Reuben | :14:35. | :14:39.
is about to have his tongue tie divided. It is a very simple | :14:40. | :14:42.
procedure, which takes less than a minute. A small cat has been made | :14:43. | :14:50.
many his tongue. `` cart. Reuben is on his way back to his mother. If | :14:51. | :14:56.
you have a baby who is struggling to feed, causing pain to the mother, | :14:57. | :15:00.
you can come in, we can divide the tongue tie, put him on the rest and | :15:01. | :15:05.
have him feed painlessly, it is very dumb `` dramatic and works very | :15:06. | :15:10.
well. But a parenting charity says services for dealing with the | :15:11. | :15:12.
condition are too patchy. Some mothers pay for private treatment or | :15:13. | :15:18.
abandon breast`feeding. The charity's helpline is contacted by | :15:19. | :15:21.
distressed families. They are desperate, and in tears usually, not | :15:22. | :15:26.
only the mother, but the baby. She is in tears because she cannot help | :15:27. | :15:30.
her baby, cannot make baby quiet and happy. Because the baby is hungry | :15:31. | :15:34.
and they cannot tell you they are hungry any other way than by crying. | :15:35. | :15:39.
Back in Southampton, Reuben is feeding well. How is it different? | :15:40. | :15:46.
It does not feel like he is chomping any more. Not all babies with the | :15:47. | :15:50.
condition will need the surgery he has had, but if breast`feeding is a | :15:51. | :15:54.
problem, it can make a big difference. | :15:55. | :16:01.
Onto the sports news now. I see your shoes are still wet! It is very wet. | :16:02. | :16:09.
In a moment, we will talk about a new young ice skater, who seems to | :16:10. | :16:12.
have got a great future ahead of her. | :16:13. | :16:18.
Some tremendous pictures as well. We will get a chance to look at | :16:19. | :16:22.
Torvill and Dean as well. But I was very wet last night, very | :16:23. | :16:26.
waterlogged pitch. The all`Hampshire FA Trophy semifinal tie is evenly | :16:27. | :16:28.
poised going into Saturday's deciding leg. Gosport Borough took | :16:29. | :16:33.
the lead on a heavy pitch at Havant and Waterlooville last night through | :16:34. | :16:38.
Tim Sills. The advantage was only brief as Nic Ciardini equalised for | :16:39. | :16:43.
the home side. The return match is this Saturday, with the winners | :16:44. | :16:46.
going to Wembley for the final in March. | :16:47. | :16:50.
Swindon Town have missed out on going to Wembley next month. They | :16:51. | :16:53.
lost their Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Final on penalties against | :16:54. | :16:58.
Peterborough. They led 1`0 in the first half with a goal from Alex | :16:59. | :17:06.
Pritchard. It was 2`2 on aggregate going into this one. But | :17:07. | :17:08.
Peterborough equalised late on to take the tie to a penalty shoot`out. | :17:09. | :17:13.
And when Swindon missed their fifth spot`kick, Peterborough booked their | :17:14. | :17:15.
place in the Wembley final. There are two league matches for | :17:16. | :17:19.
teams in the north of the region tonight. League Two promotion | :17:20. | :17:30.
hopefuls Oxford are at Newport. There are hoping to continue the | :17:31. | :17:32.
momentum. In League One, MK Dons are home to Preston. Both games are live | :17:33. | :17:37.
on BBC local radio. The goal is for you tomorrow, here on BBC South. | :17:38. | :17:42.
A teenage athlete from Berkshire will make her Great Britain senior | :17:43. | :17:45.
debut at next month's World Indoor Championships in Poland. I will tell | :17:46. | :17:53.
you about it in a moment. This is the athletics. 19`year`old sprinter | :17:54. | :17:55.
Sophie Papps, who comes from Bracknell, has been named in the | :17:56. | :17:58.
British team for the Women's 60 metres. At the weekend she produced | :17:59. | :18:03.
a personal best in finishing just behind world and Olympic Champion | :18:04. | :18:07.
Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce in a heat at the Grand Prix event in Birmingham. | :18:08. | :18:10.
Fareham's Andy Vernon will compete in the 3,000 metres at the event in | :18:11. | :18:13.
Sopot, which gets underway on March seventh. | :18:14. | :18:20.
I was getting ahead of myself. Let no talk about the ice`skating. It's | :18:21. | :18:23.
seen by many as the pinnacle of sporting perfection ` Torvill and | :18:24. | :18:26.
Dean's Bolero. `` let's now talk. It was the the gold standard of ice | :18:27. | :18:30.
skating that won the duo a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. 24 | :18:31. | :18:34.
million people tuned in to see it on the BBC. Now, 30 years to the day | :18:35. | :18:38.
after they stepped out onto that Sarajevo ice, the pair have returned | :18:39. | :18:41.
to the city, to recreate the iconic routine. And travelling with them | :18:42. | :18:44.
was a young skater from Basingstoke who already has her Blades firmly | :18:45. | :18:48.
locked into the line of success. Rob Powell has the story. | :18:49. | :18:57.
Valentines night, 1984. Torvill and Dean's heart`melting Bolero. 30 | :18:58. | :19:01.
years on from that gold medal winning performance, and Torville | :19:02. | :19:04.
and Dean are back on the ice in Sarajevo. This time, they're not | :19:05. | :19:13.
alone. We have brought some of our junior team, we wanted to inspire | :19:14. | :19:17.
them as well and give them a taste of our history. And totally, we will | :19:18. | :19:23.
spur them on into future hopeful successes in ice`skating. And one | :19:24. | :19:26.
those hopefuls is 14`year`old Danielle Harrison, the British | :19:27. | :19:28.
junior number one, who's travelled from her home in Basingstoke to | :19:29. | :19:32.
perform in Sarajevo alongside two of her inspirations. Watching them do | :19:33. | :19:42.
that the label is so good. It is a privilege to be here and see them, | :19:43. | :19:45.
and meet them. It is amazing. Back on the ice in Basingstoke, and Dani | :19:46. | :19:49.
is at an early morning coaching session. She trains six times a week | :19:50. | :19:57.
before going to school. You just do it when you love something so much, | :19:58. | :20:02.
sport, you get up and do it. Even if you don't feel like doing it that | :20:03. | :20:08.
day. It is one of those sports you never master. You come into the | :20:09. | :20:17.
rink, you want to go forward. I want to turn from four works to | :20:18. | :20:22.
backwards. But then you find yourself hooked because the result | :20:23. | :20:29.
is something to learn. Mutter back Dani started skating when she was | :20:30. | :20:33.
six as something to do on a Saturday morning at the nearby rink. Now, she | :20:34. | :20:38.
competes around the country ` tournaments that often prove too | :20:39. | :20:41.
much for her mum. For now, Dani has both feet on the ground. Thankfully | :20:42. | :20:45.
she does not get nervous, she just enjoys it. You think, , just one | :20:46. | :20:54.
more turn, London one third. `` land on one foot. In four years' time, | :20:55. | :20:58.
she could well be in the Winter Olympic Squad. Dizzying heights, | :20:59. | :21:03.
indeed. That is wonderful, I felt quite | :21:04. | :21:08.
dizzy! Talking about the work she has put | :21:09. | :21:12.
in. She gets up at six in the morning. They say if you do not put | :21:13. | :21:16.
the work in... The talent is there, but you have to | :21:17. | :21:20.
put in the training. With luck to her. `` good luck. | :21:21. | :21:26.
We all know cats hate water. But the Verwood Canine Hydrotherapy Centre, | :21:27. | :21:29.
in Wimborne in Dorset, has other ideas. It's taken the unusual step | :21:30. | :21:33.
of putting one elderly feline in a pool to ease pain in his joints, a | :21:34. | :21:37.
treatment that's normally for dogs. Katy Austin reports. | :21:38. | :21:44.
This is Morph, a 14`year`old Devon Rex Cat. You would not normally put | :21:45. | :21:52.
the cat in the water. He's receiving hydrotherapy to help his arthiritis. | :21:53. | :21:56.
He has one session a week, doing circuits of the pool in a sort of | :21:57. | :21:59.
doggy paddle stroke. Hydrotherapy is normally just for dogs, it's rare to | :22:00. | :22:04.
treat a cat. When he first started the treatment, Morph wasn't very | :22:05. | :22:08.
keen. CAT MEOWS. | :22:09. | :22:13.
But now he's got used to it, he's soaking up the health benefits. The | :22:14. | :22:19.
hydrostatic pressure helps. It helps to ease the joint, helps the blood | :22:20. | :22:25.
flow and the circulation. It reduces swelling. And it is doing exercise. | :22:26. | :22:32.
It is good for muscles and fitness and weight control. The hydrotherapy | :22:33. | :22:36.
school here is also one of just a handful in the country to offer | :22:37. | :22:39.
training courses to other vets and their assistants in how to treat | :22:40. | :22:42.
animals with water. Morph's teatment has gone so well, the surgery could | :22:43. | :22:46.
offer it to more cats, if they're calm enough to cope with the water. | :22:47. | :22:58.
That is not a happy cat! Is it? But it is getting better. | :22:59. | :23:05.
Right, we're going to get onto the weather now. We have something to | :23:06. | :23:10.
show you. Really heavy rain today, and some | :23:11. | :23:17.
thunderstorms, this funnel cloud. Coming down from the sky. Once it | :23:18. | :23:21.
hits the ground, it develops into a tornado, but this one is a funnel | :23:22. | :23:26.
cloud. It was sent in by Kevin O'Donnell this afternoon. It is | :23:27. | :23:33.
quite an interesting development. Does it actually touch the ground? | :23:34. | :23:38.
No, it doesn't. It is a tornado. This is a funnel cloud. | :23:39. | :23:43.
Are you sure? Nick Morgan took this photo of Witch | :23:44. | :23:46.
hazel at Winkworth Arboretum near Godalming. | :23:47. | :23:51.
Ginny Boxall captured the floodwater at Chawton Church in Hampshire. | :23:52. | :23:55.
And John Torres took this photo of Harry Old Rocks in the sunshine from | :23:56. | :24:02.
Branksome. So, quite a few blustery showers | :24:03. | :24:07.
with Hill and under today. This week, some showers developing as | :24:08. | :24:09.
well, they could be on the heavy side. Very windy from tomorrow | :24:10. | :24:15.
night. We're looking at Gales Micki return. And it will be generally | :24:16. | :24:19.
frost free this week. `` dales making a return. The showers will | :24:20. | :24:23.
gradually ease during the first part of the night and we will see some | :24:24. | :24:27.
mist and fog patches develop. With those mist and fog patches, it could | :24:28. | :24:33.
become quite dense in a few places, more likely for the hills and to | :24:34. | :24:37.
river valleys. Temperatures down to around 47 Celsius. The wind | :24:38. | :24:40.
increasing in speed through the night, so tomorrow morning, the | :24:41. | :24:45.
showers will continue. Gradually easing through the middle of the day | :24:46. | :24:49.
before another band of rain arrives tomorrow evening. There will be some | :24:50. | :24:52.
sunshine to be had tomorrow, to bridge is a few degrees above the | :24:53. | :24:57.
seasonal average, reaching ten to 11. The wind a fairly light until | :24:58. | :25:02.
tomorrow evening. Then we will see up batch of rain moving. That is the | :25:03. | :25:06.
one which could give us half an inch of rain fall through tomorrow | :25:07. | :25:09.
evening and through the day on Thursday. Temperatures tomorrow | :25:10. | :25:13.
night staying fairly mild, lows of seven to nine Celsius. Rain to start | :25:14. | :25:19.
the day on Thursday, that will clear rapidly with a brisk south`westerly. | :25:20. | :25:25.
To follow that, we will see gusts of perhaps 40 to 50 mph along the South | :25:26. | :25:29.
coast. Inland, showers, still gusty conditions with the showers, perhaps | :25:30. | :25:35.
some hail and thunder. Let's have a look at the Outlook. Some showers | :25:36. | :25:40.
tomorrow, during the middle part of the day becoming drier and brighter. | :25:41. | :25:46.
Through the evening, that is when we will see the rain arriving into | :25:47. | :25:49.
parts of Dorset, that is when the wind will increase to gale force, | :25:50. | :25:51.
tomorrow night into Thursday morning. The rain stays with us | :25:52. | :25:56.
first thing on Thursday, gradually clearing East. That will be followed | :25:57. | :26:02.
by last three showers. Friday, sunshine and blustery showers, still | :26:03. | :26:07.
fairly windy. Once again, a similar story on Saturday. Looking ahead to | :26:08. | :26:11.
Sunday, the rain returns, as does the strong winds. | :26:12. | :26:13.
Tomorrow we'll be with a 91`year`old former pilot as she is reunited with | :26:14. | :26:19.
the type of glider she flew in the run`up to D`day, 70 years ago. Look | :26:20. | :26:31.
forward to that. More news at ten `` 1025. Goodbye for now. | :26:32. | :26:35. |
