children's homes in Oxfordshire are to be investigated. Chipping Norton

and Penhurst Schools closed last year. This is what's left of

Penhurst School, closed by the charity that ran it because of

funding. It's not being used as a school now,

but Penhurst was based here for over 100 years. Towards the end, there

were around 24 children herd, all of whom had profound learning

disabilities. In fact, their needs were so great, it required lore than

100 staff to work here full`time. What's known is that police have

uncovered more allegations of sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile, one of which

it's claimed took place herd. Police have previously said Jimmy

Savile abused more than 200 people over 60 years. But the abusd

allegations didn't come to light until after the former BBC presenter

died in October 2011 at the age of 84.

Action for Children are the charity that used to run the home and today

it said: We know the charity has alrdady

started that investigation darlier this week and so far it says it

hasn't found any basis for the allegations. They know that one has

been made to the police which has been passed to them.

Today's announcement doesn't mean that abuse definitely happened here,

it means an investigation's been launched into the allegations,

another investigation into similar claims at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

is still ongoing. Pf `. Thames Valley Police has been

prized for how it trains its officers in handling domesthc aviews

officers. A review says in Wiltshire, although effective work

was going on, there were several areas for improvement. Serious

concern was expressed about Gloucestershire where inspectors

found the force were struck tolling help victims. Gloucestershire

constabulary deals with 2,000 crimes related to domestic abuse every

year. `` struggling to help victims. Domestic violence isn't just broken

bones, there's mental abuse too Victims need to be given more

information ability what's available. I would have left a lot

sooner if I knew there was support and somewhere I could go. Domestic

abuse charities say one of the key problems is the grass roots officers

often don't recognise the shgns The specialist police officers who work

out of the public protection bureau with very, very good and understand

domestic abuse and the dynalics of it. We are not so sure that the

average police officer going out has that understanding, so we'd like

there to be much better trahning for police officers. We'd like to be

involved in that training. We'd also like victims to be a big part of

that training. In media interviews this morning,

the Assistant Chief Constable welcomed the report and said the

force has made significant changes. We are moving very quickly. There is

a governance board that's bden set up to drive in some of the changes

and people will be reassured that we'll have a very structured,

fast`moving approach to delhvering the improvements. Charities say a

lot of good work is going on and victims shouldn't be put off from

coming forward as a result of today's report. Police say they ll

look back to see if they've failed victims in the past but that since

the inspection, those facing domestic abuse are now safer than

ever before. A man's been questioned in

connection with the sexual `ssault of an Oxford University student who

posted a selfie of her injuries online. She was attacked whdn she

confronted a man for touching her at the plush Lounge on Saturdax. The

18`year`old man has been released on police bail. All secondary schools

in Oxfordshire will soon have full`time school nurses. Thd county

council is spending over ?1 million to make sure pupils can accdss a

nurse from September. Have you got a second...

Claire's been a school nursd here for six months. But she's bden a

registered nurse for over 20 years. She holds one`to`one sessions like

this every week day and says the job mainly focuses on providing

emotional support. In a young teenage teenager, they

have angst, we all had it growing up. My role here is very much

dealing with emotional health. I feel so much more confident talking

to Claire. She's like a second mum to me. Here at the Oxford academy,

there's been a full`time school nurse on site since last September,

but most schools in Oxfordshire Buckinghamshire and Wiltshire will

son have access to one part`time, usually through drop`in sessions.

From September though, that will change here in Oxfordshire. It's

part of a new deal between Oxfordshire County Council `nd the

Oxford health NHS Foundation Trust. The three`year contract is costing

the council ?1.5 million. The level of school nurse support won't be as

much in primary schools. We have to have invest in the future. The

children are very much the future of Oxfordshire and public health is a

great return on money. We would like to see this expansion into primary

schools as well. You need to start somewhere and actually, teenagers

are in a much better position to make the choices themselves, whereas

primary school children are more guided by their parents.

Long gone are the days when school nurses were only in charge of

practical tasks such as immunisations and first`aid.

It's hoped today's new move will provide young people with more

advice on things like mental health, safe sex and the riskles of drinking

alcohol or smoking. Several buildings could be

demolished in Aylesbury to lake way for new shops, restaurants `nd

housing. A planning application s been submitted to knock down part of

the old county council offices. Empty police buildings could be

demolished and replaced with car parking.
