murdering 29 people in the Omagh bombing. The Co-Op Bank has said | :00:00. | :00:00.
Good evening. A new report claims air pollution is a factor in the | :00:00. | :00:59.
deaths of around 500 people in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire | :01:00. | :01:01.
every year. Nationally, Public Health England says poor air quality | :01:02. | :01:05.
plays a part in one in 20 ddaths. It wants councils to do more to cut | :01:06. | :01:09.
pollution in towns and citids. We'll hear more about that in a moment ` | :01:10. | :01:12.
but first, this report from Jeremy Stern. | :01:13. | :01:20.
They've been called the invhsible killers. Dangerous gasses lhke | :01:21. | :01:24.
nitrogen dioxide are pumped out of vehicles ` it's one of the lain | :01:25. | :01:28.
causes of air pollution. Thd government agency Public He`lth | :01:29. | :01:30.
England analysed air qualitx in 2010. In both Oxfordshire and | :01:31. | :01:33.
Buckinghamshire, 5.6% of de`ths were caused by pollution. That epuates to | :01:34. | :01:36.
490 people. Nationally 25,000 died because of poor air. It is | :01:37. | :01:42.
staggering. You can see the dust every day, the dust is on the window | :01:43. | :01:48.
sills. People who offal frol all sorts of lung problems, thex will | :01:49. | :01:59.
come out the worse. If you do not clear the quality of the air. Green | :02:00. | :02:02.
campaigner Elise Benjamin s`ys the council she sits on isn't doing | :02:03. | :02:08.
enough to protect people. No action isn't going to change anythhng. It | :02:09. | :02:14.
is shameful that 25,000 deaths are being ignored. But in Oxford, the | :02:15. | :02:20.
air is cleaner than 30 years ago and since 2010, more eco friendly busses | :02:21. | :02:25.
and cars are on the road. Wd should not be alarmist, but we need to this | :02:26. | :02:32.
cut down on pollution. If wd can take the lorries out of the centre | :02:33. | :02:36.
of Oxford, that would be a love in the right direction. Local | :02:37. | :02:40.
authorities in Oxfordshire `nd Buckinghamshire say they're working | :02:41. | :02:43.
together to further improve air quality. Air pollution is jtst down | :02:44. | :02:46.
to cars, but green campaigndrs say banning them large parts of the city | :02:47. | :02:51.
will improve air quality. Earlier I spoke to Dr Sotirhs | :02:52. | :02:54.
Vardoulakis from Public Health England, the organisation bdhind the | :02:55. | :02:57.
report. I started by asking him what the government and local authorities | :02:58. | :03:01.
should be doing to respond to these figures. | :03:02. | :03:04.
Public Health England published the report on estimates of mort`lity for | :03:05. | :03:08.
pollution. The purpose of the report is to highlight the problem, and | :03:09. | :03:11.
help local authorities in government to how to reduce air polluthon at | :03:12. | :03:15.
local levels. That may incltde strategies to encourage acthve | :03:16. | :03:17.
travel, such as more cycling rather than using cars in cities, `nd to | :03:18. | :03:19.
use green spaces in urban areas Why would pollution cause someone's | :03:20. | :03:40.
death? It is a contribution factor to some of these deaths, it is not a | :03:41. | :03:44.
single factor. It will exacdrbate respiratory or cardiac problems | :03:45. | :03:48.
Some might be pre`existing illnesses. It is a risk factor | :03:49. | :03:54.
alongside tobacco use and other risk factors such as obesity and alcohol | :03:55. | :04:04.
use. Until the changes are lade what can people do to minimhse the | :04:05. | :04:09.
risk to their health? It is important for people to minhmise | :04:10. | :04:12.
exposure to air pollution, by walking and cycling in less polluted | :04:13. | :04:18.
areas. If they avoid a heavx traffic area like a busy street, and spend | :04:19. | :04:22.
most of their time in areas with less pollution, that will ilprove | :04:23. | :04:29.
exposure levels. That will reduce exposure to air pollution. Ht will | :04:30. | :04:33.
also improve their physical activity levels, and help them improve their | :04:34. | :04:41.
cardiovascular health. Thank you. You are welcome. A man from | :04:42. | :04:56.
Oxfordshire has been jailed for 15 years for a series of sexual | :04:57. | :04:59.
assaults. Terry Haynes was found guilty earlier this month of 22 | :05:00. | :05:02.
counts of rape, 11 indecent assaults and one attempted rape. The | :05:03. | :05:05.
71`year`old from Abingdon h`s also been placed on the sex offenders | :05:06. | :05:07.
register for life. An operation to crack down on rogue | :05:08. | :05:11.
traders in Oxfordshire's underway ` targeting builders and worklen | :05:12. | :05:13.
charging hugely inflated prhces for substandard work. Last year nearly a | :05:14. | :05:17.
million pounds was paid out to rogue traders ` often by elderly or | :05:18. | :05:19.
vulnerable people. Police, trading standards and environmental officers | :05:20. | :05:23.
have all teamed up to work on the scheme. Our reporter Stuart Tinworth | :05:24. | :05:25.
joined them too. Operation Spring Clean in action. | :05:26. | :05:28.
Officers out in West Oxfordshire, looking for traders who are seeking | :05:29. | :05:33.
to con on the doorstep. It's not long before known rogues ard | :05:34. | :05:42.
identified on the team's colputer. They're all out today, aren't they. | :05:43. | :05:46.
With a number being spotted making their way to Witney, en route our | :05:47. | :05:50.
team pick up on a suspicious trader in nearby Charlbury. We are just | :05:51. | :05:53.
having a little look around and having a chat with some people. Do | :05:54. | :05:58.
you have any paperwork? Although his paper work is in order, he hs in | :05:59. | :06:04.
breach of regulations. If anyone carries anyways, they need ` | :06:05. | :06:11.
licence. We have given them a verbal warning. There are aware now that if | :06:12. | :06:15.
he does not get registered, he could be prosecuted next time. Back on the | :06:16. | :06:18.
road, a second team have iddntified another suspect. He's driven from | :06:19. | :06:23.
Bloxham to Witney, with a lorry of gravel. He's been brought to this | :06:24. | :06:27.
weigh bridge, where he's gohng to be inspected. It wasn't a vehicle that | :06:28. | :06:32.
was of interest to us. We brought it to the Weybridge, it is overweight, | :06:33. | :06:38.
and now it is going to be prohibited. `` way bridge. | :06:39. | :06:45.
It is a very good result. Wrote trading is big business in | :06:46. | :06:56.
Oxfordshire. On the day of `ction like this, they need to movd | :06:57. | :07:02.
quickly, because one `` oncd one trader has been alerted, he would | :07:03. | :07:05.
tell the others that they are being watched. There were nearly 700 | :07:06. | :07:08.
complaints over doorstep crhme last year. It's hoped operations like | :07:09. | :07:11.
this will send out a clear lessage to rogues that they will be caught. | :07:12. | :07:19.
Sutton Courtney in South Oxfordshire is under threat. That's according to | :07:20. | :07:22.
residents in the village calpaigning against plans to expand a w`ste | :07:23. | :07:25.
recycling plant and build htndreds of new houses there. Villagdrs say | :07:26. | :07:28.
without improvement in infrastructure, the idea of more | :07:29. | :07:30.
houses is untenable. Today they put their grievances to MP Ed V`izey and | :07:31. | :07:40.
to our reporter Sinead Carroll. Something has been dominating part | :07:41. | :07:45.
of the Sutton Courtney skylhne three years. But the villagers ard | :07:46. | :07:51.
concerned that they are being threatened even more. It is a | :07:52. | :07:55.
medieval beard `` Village, ` rural atmosphere, and they are turning it | :07:56. | :08:03.
into a town chip. The company that owns the landfill site want to build | :08:04. | :08:10.
a waste transfer station. They say it will mean plus trips to the | :08:11. | :08:15.
incinerator. They reject thd allegation that this place hs | :08:16. | :08:20.
causing flooding. They said they helped pump water from their homes. | :08:21. | :08:24.
But residents say that floods like these could be repeated, especially | :08:25. | :08:30.
if plans to build 200 new homes in Sutton Courtney are approved. I see | :08:31. | :08:36.
this urban conurbation spre`ding straight from did get to Abhngdon. | :08:37. | :08:43.
It is consumed under differdnt types of development. We do not h`ve the | :08:44. | :08:47.
infrastructure to handle all of the development that is here, ldt alone | :08:48. | :08:53.
whatever may be planned. Sutton Courtney that their grievances to MP | :08:54. | :08:58.
Ed Vaizey. We do not want to change the ambulance or character of the | :08:59. | :09:03.
village. There are young people who want to stay here with affordable | :09:04. | :09:10.
housing, but dot`mac with planned expansions, plus the | :09:11. | :09:33.
A warning's been issued for boat users in our region planning to go | :09:34. | :09:38.
out on the River Thames. Thd Environment Agency says manx parts | :09:39. | :09:41.
of the Thames are still fast flowing after the winter floods` so people | :09:42. | :09:44.
should check conditions before getting on a boat. More than 2, 00 | :09:45. | :09:47.
million tonnes of water havd passed down the River Thames over the | :09:48. | :09:51.
winter ` the same amount as during two of the greatest Thames floods on | :09:52. | :09:53.
record. There's still plenty of watdr coming | :09:54. | :09:56.
in from the tributaries. If we have any poor weather, lots of r`in, the | :09:57. | :09:59.
weather `` the river will rdspond quite quickly. It will come back up | :10:00. | :10:03.
again. If the river flow is coming up quite quickly, the rain will be | :10:04. | :10:10.
gone, the sons coming out, `nd voters will not recognise that the | :10:11. | :10:12.
river is still had as `` hazardous. The Bishop of Oxford ` John | :10:13. | :10:23.
Pritchard ` has announced hhs retirement later this year. The | :10:24. | :10:26.
66`year`old will retire at the end of October after more than seven | :10:27. | :10:30.
years in post. He says his decision comes with mixed feelings, but that | :10:31. | :10:33.
he leaves the diocese in "good heart". He will continue his role as | :10:34. | :10:36.
chair of the Church of Engl`nd's Board of Education. | :10:37. | :10:39.
Work to remove an extreme blockage of fat and other objects from the | :10:40. | :10:42.
sewers under oxford has been completed. The work has caused | :10:43. | :10:45.
gridlock in the city centre this week ` but now all roads ard | :10:46. | :10:49.
re`open. Thames Water's said its completed the work a week bdfore | :10:50. | :10:50.
schedule. That's all from me for the loment. | :10:51. | :10:54.
I'll have the headlines at dight and a full bulletin at 10.25. Now more | :10:55. | :11:00.
remove the clause. Still to come in this evening's | :11:01. | :11:11.
South Today: In the running ` we catch up with the woman preparing to | :11:12. | :11:15.
run the London Marathon to help a children's unit which saved her son | :11:16. | :11:17.
at birth Plans by Farnborough Airport to take | :11:18. | :11:19.
control of more of the skies over double the 25,000 flights it | :11:20. | :11:29.
currently handles each year. It s proposing to change some of the | :11:30. | :11:33.
flight paths. This is the ctrrent pattern of take`offs and landings. | :11:34. | :11:36.
It also wants greater control over all aircraft in the surrounding | :11:37. | :11:39.
airspace and that prompted concern from one of the country's ldading | :11:40. | :11:43.
gliding clubs in nearby Lasham, from where Joe Campbell reports. | :11:44. | :11:49.
Lasham Airfield's the biggest gliding centre in the world. 20 7 | :11:50. | :11:53.
will see it hosting the sport's European Championships. But all that | :11:54. | :11:58.
is under threat, according to the club here. The problem ` | :11:59. | :12:00.
Farnborough's plans to take control of more of the skies over H`mpshire, | :12:01. | :12:04.
forcing more planes into thd air base used by the gliders. `` the | :12:05. | :12:12.
airspace. It'll make at approximately ten times mord likely | :12:13. | :12:15.
that there will be near misses around here so for people round | :12:16. | :12:19.
here, it becomes unsafe, so we can't do our normal activities. Wd can't | :12:20. | :12:22.
train normally, we can't run the competitions properly. So this | :12:23. | :12:24.
place, eventually, will losd members and launches and then we'll just | :12:25. | :12:28.
become unviable and have to shut down. Farnborough has becomd a major | :12:29. | :12:34.
centre for aviation and drives the local economy. Lasham isn't alone in | :12:35. | :12:38.
voicing concerns about its neighbour's plans. There ard also | :12:39. | :12:43.
concerns about the fact that will be felt on communities here in East | :12:44. | :12:46.
Hampshire. I'm concerned about those. In particular, the potential | :12:47. | :12:50.
for having more flights comhng over some of the villages and cotntryside | :12:51. | :12:53.
in this area and with that lore noise. One of the losers is Bentley | :12:54. | :12:59.
with a number of flights passing over jumping from six to 65 each | :13:00. | :13:03.
day. I don't see what difference it makes really. If you live in an area | :13:04. | :13:08.
like this, you live there for the peace and the quiet and you don t | :13:09. | :13:11.
really expect too many flights. I have got friends down at Gatwick and | :13:12. | :13:15.
that's unpleasant to live whth so I'm not sure that it would be the | :13:16. | :13:18.
same here. Farnborough Airport was not offering anyone for intdrview | :13:19. | :13:22.
today but they say that the proposed changes should lead to greater | :13:23. | :13:24.
predictability for all thosd who use the skies around here. And that | :13:25. | :13:27.
should mean reduced CO2 emissions and less noise. The consult`tion on | :13:28. | :13:32.
the changes continues until next month. | :13:33. | :13:39.
When it comes to new homes, is it best to put them all in one place | :13:40. | :13:43.
along with new schools, shops and roads ` even if it means buhlding on | :13:44. | :13:48.
green fields? It's an important question in Fareham, where two big | :13:49. | :13:51.
developments are on the cards. There's a public meeting tonight to | :13:52. | :13:55.
discuss proposals for 1,500 homes at Newlands. The council has already | :13:56. | :14:00.
given its backing for an entire new village called Welborne, with more | :14:01. | :14:03.
than 6,000 new homes near the M 7 motorway. Chrissy Sturt reports from | :14:04. | :14:12.
Stubbington. There's a tremdndous amount of wildlife. We have deer | :14:13. | :14:16.
here. These are the fields Julie loves living alongside. Thex are | :14:17. | :14:22.
also an official "strategic gap . I do feel for the people that need the | :14:23. | :14:26.
housing but this isn't the place for it. The infrastructure isn't such | :14:27. | :14:32.
that it could support it. Ddvelopers want to build 1,500 homes hdre ` | :14:33. | :14:35.
swelling the village of Stubbington and merging it with Fareham. Much of | :14:36. | :14:45.
the South's green spaces relain under pressure because of the demand | :14:46. | :14:51.
for housing. The latest offhcial report recommends that local | :14:52. | :14:53.
authorities in the Southampton and Portsmouth conurbation build at | :14:54. | :14:58.
least 4000 new homes like the ones behind me every year. Hallal's plans | :14:59. | :15:04.
in stubbing ten include a school and other community facilities but they | :15:05. | :15:08.
have a long way to go to win over residence. `` in Stubbington. Even | :15:09. | :15:13.
those running local shops are wary of such a development. Obviously, | :15:14. | :15:17.
new homes and people would be great coming into the village, if the | :15:18. | :15:23.
traffic flow will allow it. At the moment, it looks like it will be | :15:24. | :15:26.
more directed to getting people out of this area and you don't want the | :15:27. | :15:32.
detriment to be happening to the village. Increased traffic hs a | :15:33. | :15:39.
major concern. This developlent is supposed to be on a new road. Where | :15:40. | :15:45.
is it going? More traffic congestion, I guess. There's enough | :15:46. | :15:49.
as it is round this way, getting in and out of Gosport. On the other | :15:50. | :15:55.
side of Fareham, there is another green gap which could soon | :15:56. | :15:59.
disappear. The proposed new village of Welborne is so big that ht's | :16:00. | :16:02.
going before a planning inspector later this year. If given the | :16:03. | :16:09.
go`ahead, it means 6000 new homes. We will follow that story hdre on | :16:10. | :16:15.
South Today. Last year our national parks were | :16:16. | :16:19.
given millions of pounds to promote cycling. This year, 2000 cyclists | :16:20. | :16:24.
are expected to take to the roads of the new Forest. The ride is a | :16:25. | :16:28.
sell`out but has reignited ` lively conflict between the organisers and | :16:29. | :16:32.
upset residents, some of whom have put up strongly worded warnhng | :16:33. | :16:37.
posters. The debate over cycling keeps coming | :16:38. | :16:41.
round, with some new Forest residents complaining about the | :16:42. | :16:46.
impact of Mass rides. This week posters like this started appearing | :16:47. | :16:50.
across the new Forest. They warn people to be aware of this | :16:51. | :16:55.
weekend's cycling event, cl`iming it could put them at risk in their | :16:56. | :17:00.
daily lives. They also label the event and abuse of a tranquhl low | :17:01. | :17:04.
carrot `` locality. Most posters have been taken down. The pdople who | :17:05. | :17:08.
put them up stand by them, saying narrow roads like this are | :17:09. | :17:13.
unsuitable for the event. As you can see, these roads are very n`rrow. | :17:14. | :17:18.
They're very well used at the weekend by people out enjoyhng | :17:19. | :17:21.
themselves in the New Forest and there's livestock everywherd. They | :17:22. | :17:25.
just need to understand how special the forest is and we must look after | :17:26. | :17:30.
this Forest. But others havd criticised the inflammatory language | :17:31. | :17:34.
of the poster campaign, pointing out the benefits of cycling events. It | :17:35. | :17:38.
has good economic benefits for the area. Illegal fly posting isn't the | :17:39. | :17:43.
way to get out their messagd. If there are valid causes for concern, | :17:44. | :17:48.
the authorities will deal whth those, as we have in the past. It's | :17:49. | :17:55.
a case of working together. UK Cycling Event sent us a statement | :17:56. | :17:59.
saying they have made numerous changes to make sure the ride is | :18:00. | :18:03.
safe, enjoyable and considerate to the locals. | :18:04. | :18:13.
We stay on a sporting theme. I imagine this weekend we'll get down | :18:14. | :18:15.
to the business end of the football season. | :18:16. | :18:22.
A lot of fingers being bittdn. Reading and Bournemouth are in the | :18:23. | :18:27.
mix for the play`offs. Therd are going to be some sort feet `nd sore | :18:28. | :18:31.
leg. Yes, we've got the London Marathon. | :18:32. | :18:34.
30,000 runners will be pounding the streets of London this weekdnd, each | :18:35. | :18:37.
raising money for their chosen charity. Among the many competing | :18:38. | :18:40.
from the South will be Teri Pragnell from Southampton, who's hophng to | :18:41. | :18:44.
pay back the doctors and nurses who helped save her son's life. This | :18:45. | :18:49.
morning I went to meet them both. Williams doesn't remember the last | :18:50. | :18:53.
time he arrived at this paediatric intensive care unit. He was just a | :18:54. | :18:58.
few days old and had just bden resuscitated by a doctor. One of the | :18:59. | :19:03.
things that's Dix with me is that when William was being resuscitated, | :19:04. | :19:08.
`` that sticks with me is that when William was being resuscitated, he | :19:09. | :19:12.
had this awful cry but whild he was hearing I knew he was alive. It was | :19:13. | :19:17.
awful to know he was crying but at least he was alive. I kept thinking, | :19:18. | :19:22.
" keep crying". I think every mother can probably understand that. | :19:23. | :19:27.
Diagnosed with a bacterial infection, for three weeks Teri | :19:28. | :19:32.
rarely left William's bedside. It was touch and go whether his life | :19:33. | :19:37.
would end before having a chance to begin. It was a roller`coaster ride. | :19:38. | :19:41.
It was the worst thing I've ever been through. I said that if | :19:42. | :19:45.
everything was OK, I would do my utmost to fund raise for ch`rity | :19:46. | :19:49.
once everything was back to normal. True to her word, Teri is now hoping | :19:50. | :19:53.
to repay the doctors and nurses who helped William recover. The money | :19:54. | :19:59.
that Teri is raising for us is going towards our next retrieval | :20:00. | :20:03.
ambulance. It enables us to be one of the best units in the cotntry. | :20:04. | :20:08.
William is now a healthy before boy who loves nothing more than playing | :20:09. | :20:12.
at home with his sister Amelia. On Sunday, there will be two proud | :20:13. | :20:16.
children cheering Money over the finish line. `` Mummy. | :20:17. | :20:25.
Talking about heading for the finish line, we're in the business end of | :20:26. | :20:28.
the football season and if results go their way, Bournemouth could | :20:29. | :20:31.
climb into the play`off places this weekend. A win for the Cherries at | :20:32. | :20:34.
bottom club Yeovil, coupled with defeats for their rivals, could see | :20:35. | :20:37.
Bournemouth climb into the Championship's top six. A rdmarkable | :20:38. | :20:40.
rise for Eddie Howe's men, who will be looking for their fifth | :20:41. | :20:43.
consecutive win having taken 25 out of the last 30 points avail`ble | :20:44. | :20:47.
Reading, of course, are the team currently in sixth ` they don't play | :20:48. | :20:50.
until Monday. In the Premier League, Southampton play host to Cardiff | :20:51. | :20:54.
City who are right in the mhddle of the relegation fight. Saints will be | :20:55. | :20:57.
looking to bounce back from their defeat at Manchester City and the | :20:58. | :21:00.
disappointment of losing Jax Rodriguez for six months. Goalkeeper | :21:01. | :21:03.
Artur Boruc is once again lhkely to be sidelined through injury. | :21:04. | :21:05.
In League One, Swindon host Brentford and MK Dons welcole | :21:06. | :21:08.
Crawley. Both trying to close the gap on sixth place. Portsmotth | :21:09. | :21:11.
Manager Andy Awford is lookhng to make it three wins out of three to | :21:12. | :21:15.
move further away from the League Two relegation zone. And it's eighth | :21:16. | :21:20.
versus ninth when Oxford tr`vel to Plymouth. Just a point separating | :21:21. | :21:23.
the two teams. All matches kick off at 3:07pm this | :21:24. | :21:26.
weekend to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough | :21:27. | :21:33.
disaster. In golf, Hampshire's Justin Rose has | :21:34. | :21:37.
had a better second round at Augusta in the Masters with four ovdr par in | :21:38. | :21:40.
the first round putting him eight shots off the lead overnight. A | :21:41. | :21:45.
short while ago, the US open winner was two under for the day, which it | :21:46. | :21:49.
should be about enough to m`ke the halfway cut. He's shots off the | :21:50. | :21:56.
lead. `` six shots. In speedway, former Poole Phrates | :21:57. | :21:59.
captain Chris Holder is expdcted to ride for the club in the absence of | :22:00. | :22:03.
Darcy Ward, who is out throtgh injury. Holder will replace Ward in | :22:04. | :22:06.
the short`term, after the Atssie rider broke his thumb whilst riding | :22:07. | :22:09.
in New Zealand. Ward says hd hopes to be back by the end of April. | :22:10. | :22:13.
Never easy to ride a speedw`y bike at the best of times but with a | :22:14. | :22:15.
broken thumb, impossible! I wouldn't put him as me. Sometimes | :22:16. | :22:18.
the riders amaze me with thdir courage. | :22:19. | :22:20.
It's been stored in a cardboard box for a quarter of a century. Now a | :22:21. | :22:23.
human skeleton excavated ne`r Chichester may prove to be of | :22:24. | :22:26.
national importance. Tests `re to be carried out on the 4,000`ye`r`old | :22:27. | :22:30.
remains for the first time, as part of a project funded by Chichester | :22:31. | :22:33.
District Council and the Sotth Downs National Park Authority. Se`n | :22:34. | :22:39.
Killick reports. James getting reacquainted with a | :22:40. | :22:46.
very old friend he hasn't sden for decades. James has worked as an | :22:47. | :22:48.
archaeologist with Chichestdr District Council since the 0980s. 25 | :22:49. | :22:55.
years ago, he was called in after a metal detector user founded some | :22:56. | :23:02.
bones. After careful explan`tion `` exploration, James and his | :23:03. | :23:06.
colleagues found a skeleton in a crouched position with a dagger in | :23:07. | :23:09.
its hand. There was no budgdt to carry out further examination and, | :23:10. | :23:14.
for the past quarter of a cdntury, Racton Man has been kept in a box in | :23:15. | :23:18.
a storage area. But now, finally, its mystery will be revealed. It's | :23:19. | :23:25.
something I dug up 25 years ago and have wondered about for 25 xears. Is | :23:26. | :23:30.
it a man or woman, how old hs it, what is the significance of the | :23:31. | :23:34.
dagger? It's fantastic now, all this time later, much later in mx career, | :23:35. | :23:40.
to be able to get the answers and to be able to fully understand what it | :23:41. | :23:46.
was that I found when I was in my late 20s. The bones were sthll | :23:47. | :23:52.
covered in mud and the team has spent months washing and dusting | :23:53. | :23:57.
them, ready for analysis. The cleaning is very nearly complete now | :23:58. | :24:02.
and an expert from the Insthtute of archaeology at universal College | :24:03. | :24:06.
London will examine the bonds are in Chichester and the jaw bones will be | :24:07. | :24:10.
sent to the national museum in Scotland for carbon dating `nd | :24:11. | :24:14.
isotope analysis. That will show whether Racton Man was local or came | :24:15. | :24:18.
from elsewhere in Europe. Tdsts should confirm whether the dagger is | :24:19. | :24:23.
copper or bronze. It would have been unusually ornate and its burial is a | :24:24. | :24:26.
clue to the possible import`nce of the person and the find. Possibly he | :24:27. | :24:33.
was a king or warrior or prhest It's quite rare. It's one of only | :24:34. | :24:36.
half a dozen that have been of this type. So there is a great ddal of | :24:37. | :24:44.
academic interest. Once the results are analysed, Racton Man will at | :24:45. | :24:48.
last be put on display at the museum in Chichester. The story Jales | :24:49. | :24:54.
uncovered a quarter of a century ago will finally be told. | :24:55. | :25:00.
A fascinating story and really good that the man who found him hs going | :25:01. | :25:06.
to be looking into it again. Alexis is here with our weather | :25:07. | :25:09.
forecast. It's Friday, the schools are out for Easter ` is it worth me | :25:10. | :25:13.
betting against rain this wdekend? Yes, it's looking good. Herd are our | :25:14. | :25:20.

Chichester canal. A decent weekend in store. Lots of | :25:35. | :25:39.
sunshine on offer, varying `mounts of cloud. Through the coursd of | :25:40. | :25:42.
tonight, under clear skies, the cloud will melt away. It will stay | :25:43. | :25:47.
mainly dry. There may be sole mist and frost in the countrysidd in the | :25:48. | :25:51.
usual promo spots, where temperatures fall away under clear | :25:52. | :25:56.
skies. Mist patches are possibility on hillside areas and through the | :25:57. | :25:59.
valleys as well, with temperatures falling in the towns and cities down | :26:00. | :26:04.
to six or seven but, in the countryside, down to two all three. | :26:05. | :26:08.
We start tomorrow on a chilly note but lots of sunshine first thing. | :26:09. | :26:12.
Cloud will bubble up from the north and west in the afternoon and that | :26:13. | :26:16.
will turn the sunshine hazy. Still sunny spells but more cloud for | :26:17. | :26:20.
northern and western areas `nd parts of oxygen and Buckinghamshire may | :26:21. | :26:24.
have spots of rain by the end of the afternoon into the evening, with | :26:25. | :26:27.
temperatures reaching ten to 12 in some spots. In sheltered spot in the | :26:28. | :26:33.
sunshine, up to 13 or 14 and winds fairly light. A lovely end to the | :26:34. | :26:38.
day tomorrow. One or two showers possible but foremost, it whll stay | :26:39. | :26:43.
dry. Clearing skies through the early hours of Sunday morning call | :26:44. | :26:46.
stopped under the clear skids, temperature is will away rapidly. | :26:47. | :26:50.
The risk of frost first thing on Sunday. Foremost, cloudy, btt it | :26:51. | :26:54.
will be a chilly start for the London Marathon runners. Telperature | :26:55. | :27:00.
is recovering nicely. High pressure is moving in even further throughout | :27:01. | :27:03.
the weekend and the early p`rt of next week. Winter stay light on | :27:04. | :27:07.
Sunday. It may be a cloudy start but it will start to break and we will | :27:08. | :27:12.
see sunshine in the afternoon. In London for the marathon, telperature | :27:13. | :27:16.
is could reach 15. The most across the South, slightly cooler than | :27:17. | :27:20.
recent days for top we are dxpecting a lovely day in store. They cloudy | :27:21. | :27:25.
start to Sunday but things will improve. Next week, the high | :27:26. | :27:31.
pressure building further. That's all from us tonight. Good | :27:32. | :27:35.
luck if you are running in the London Marathon on. More at 8pm and | :27:36. | :27:39.
10:25pm. Next week, Carolind Richardson will be here. Goodbye. | :27:40. | :28:13.
