Good evening. The Mayor of Swindon has resigned after being reported

for making derogatory remarks about people with Down's syndrome.

Conservative Nick Martin was found guilty of breaching a members' code

of conduct. He's apologised and has now stood down as Mayor` but

protestors are calling for him to leave the council too. Scott Ellis

reports. Swindon's Mayor was at a training day at the civic offices in

Swindon last October, learning about the abuse faced by people with

disabilities. At first, Councillor Martin denied making the comments.

BBC Wiltshire interviewed him in March. A standards panel found the

mayor had breached the code of conduct. He's apologised ` as

requested ` and has agreed to undergo training. But today in a

letter to the Council, he said "It is with regret that I submit my

resignation as Mayor of the Borough of Swindon with immediate effect."

And ` refering to the apologies ` he added. "it is clear that this will

not stop the attacks on the Office and person of Mayor. Therefore, I

deem it best for the people of Swindon to resign." Disability

camapigners welcome his resignation, saying his remarks expose a

deep`seated ignorance. Disabled people are having sex like everyone

else around the country. It is no 1's business. There are local

elections next month. Swindon's Tories are defending a one seat

majority. Opponents say the Mayor should now resign as a councillor.

He says he has no intention of leaving politics The former Radio

One and BBC Three Counties DJ Dave Lee Travis has been charged with one

court of indecent assault. The 68`year`old presenter ` who lives

near Wingrave in Buckinghamhsire ` was cleared of 12 indecent assaults

last month. He has been bailed until April, when he'll appear before

magistrates in Westminster. A women in Bicester's been taken to hospital

` after a car crashed into the shop she was working in. It happened on

Bassett Avenue this morning from where Jeremy Stern sent this

report... We had the buying and Russia to see what was happening and

crowds of people were shopping so we went across the board to have a look

and see what had happened and there was a car inside the shop with fire

engines and Angela `` ambulances. The driver had cuts and bruises and

woman is pushing the government to change the law to protect house

buyers from something called 'ghost gazumping'. Kate Astley was only

days away from getting on the property ladder when the seller of

her new home called to say the price had just gone up by ?13,000` even

though there were not other interested parties. Now she wants

the government to ensure both buyers and sellers share the costs and

risks that come with purchasing a property. I want there to be a small

agreement put in place at the beginning of the conveyancing

process which shares the risk between the buyer and the seller. It

means that when the buyer puts in money, if the seller does not go

through with the sale they are liable for that payment. If they

have done it in bad faith. Improvements to health services in

Buckinghamshire have made them much safer for patients ` according to a

new review. The county's hospitals were placed in special measures last

year ` following a damning report into fourteen NHS trusts across the

country. Today officials have been explaining what changes have been

made ` and what lessons have been learnt. Here's Victoria Cook. It was

a report that came as a severe blow to Buckinghamshire Health Care NHS

Trust. Numerous examples of poor care and nursing standards, a list

of worrying problems, not least that more people were dying out of hours

because of a lack of staff. Work on rectifying the situation started

quickly. It is now nine months later and the review of what has changed

has been completed. Health bosses have been in the building behind me

answering serious questions about improvements. They say they have

invested more money and employed more staff, more people with the

right skills working at the right time of day. The result, they said,

is that fewer people have died. Overall the Trust says things are

improving at hospitals in Buckinghamshire. Hospital infections

like MRSA and C. Difficile have been reduced. The number of patients

dying at weekends has gone down over the last three years. But there is

still work to be done. We have to ensure there is the right health

delivery for the residents of Buckinghamshire, bearing in mind the

national changes that all of these trusts have to make throughout the

country. The real test will be in two months when the results of a new

inspection carried out just a few weeks ago will be published. One of

Oxfordshire's busiest roads is to close over the summer for

resurfacing. A section of the A420 near Shrivenham will be shut for

seven weeks from July 21st. The Council says they'll put weight

limits in place and have diversions signposted while the road is

The sun has set on another beautiful day. Like last night, temperatures

have taken a nosedive this evening. It will be a cold night for the

middle of April. Temperature is well down into single figures in towns

and cities. Across eastern England in rural spots, close to freezing.

We are expecting another frost across many parts of England and

where. For Northern Ireland and Scotland, temperatures were covering

later in the night but for most of us, a cold but sunny start. The last

one for a while. We will see cloud increasing across Northern Ireland

and Scotland, the breeze freshening and rain heading into the far

north-west. Further south, a sunny day for most of England and Wales.

Clouds are rare and temperatures will bounce back nicely. On the

coastal fringes, quite cool. The breeze will have an edge to it.

Inland, warming up nicely and former than today in some places across

southeastern England. For Northern Ireland and Scotland it will be a

cooler day than today with the breeze increasing and cloud and

rain, particularly for the
