Swindon last October, learning about the abuse faced by people with | :00:53. | :00:59.
disabilities. At first, Councillor Martin denied making the comments. | :01:00. | :01:05.
BBC Wiltshire interviewed him in March. A standards panel found the | :01:06. | :01:10.
mayor had breached the code of conduct. He's apologised ` as | :01:11. | :01:21.
requested ` and has agreed to undergo training. But today in a | :01:22. | :01:35.
letter to the Council, he said "It is with regret that I submit my | :01:36. | :01:38.
resignation as Mayor of the Borough of Swindon with immediate effect." | :01:39. | :01:42.
And ` refering to the apologies ` he added. "it is clear that this will | :01:43. | :01:46.
not stop the attacks on the Office and person of Mayor. Therefore, I | :01:47. | :01:51.
deem it best for the people of Swindon to resign." Disability | :01:52. | :01:53.

` after a car crashed into the shop she was working in. It happened on | :03:11. | :03:13.
Bassett Avenue this morning from where Jeremy Stern sent this | :03:14. | :03:16.
report... We had the buying and Russia to see what was happening and | :03:17. | :03:21.
crowds of people were shopping so we went across the board to have a look | :03:22. | :03:24.
and see what had happened and there was a car inside the shop with fire | :03:25. | :03:35.
engines and Angela `` ambulances. The driver had cuts and bruises and | :03:36. | :03:41.
was treated by paramedics. A member of staff was taken to hospital | :03:42. | :03:55.

woman is pushing the government to change the law to protect house | :04:00. | :04:02.
buyers from something called 'ghost gazumping'. Kate Astley was only | :04:03. | :04:14.
days away from getting on the property ladder when the seller of | :04:15. | :04:17.
her new home called to say the price had just gone up by ?13,000` even | :04:18. | :04:21.
though there were not other interested parties. Now she wants | :04:22. | :04:24.
the government to ensure both buyers and sellers share the costs and | :04:25. | :04:27.
risks that come with purchasing a property. I want there to be a small | :04:28. | :04:31.
agreement put in place at the beginning of the conveyancing | :04:32. | :04:33.
process which shares the risk between the buyer and the seller. It | :04:34. | :04:37.
means that when the buyer puts in money, if the seller does not go | :04:38. | :04:40.
through with the sale they are liable for that payment. If they | :04:41. | :04:45.
have done it in bad faith. Improvements to health services in | :04:46. | :04:48.
Buckinghamshire have made them much safer for patients ` according to a | :04:49. | :04:56.
new review. The county's hospitals were placed in special measures last | :04:57. | :04:59.
year ` following a damning report into fourteen NHS trusts across the | :05:00. | :05:02.
country. Today officials have been explaining what changes have been | :05:03. | :05:05.
made ` and what lessons have been learnt. Here's Victoria Cook. It was | :05:06. | :05:09.
a report that came as a severe blow to Buckinghamshire Health Care NHS | :05:10. | :05:12.
Trust. Numerous examples of poor care and nursing standards, a list | :05:13. | :05:15.
of worrying problems, not least that more people were dying out of hours | :05:16. | :05:19.
because of a lack of staff. Work on rectifying the situation started | :05:20. | :05:22.
quickly. It is now nine months later and the review of what has changed | :05:23. | :05:25.
has been completed. Health bosses have been in the building behind me | :05:26. | :05:28.
answering serious questions about improvements. They say they have | :05:29. | :05:32.
invested more money and employed more staff, more people with the | :05:33. | :05:36.
right skills working at the right time of day. The result, they said, | :05:37. | :05:39.
is that fewer people have died. Overall the Trust says things are | :05:40. | :05:42.
improving at hospitals in Buckinghamshire. Hospital infections | :05:43. | :05:45.
like MRSA and C. Difficile have been reduced. The number of patients | :05:46. | :05:48.
dying at weekends has gone down over the last three years. But there is | :05:49. | :06:05.
still work to be done. We have to ensure there is the right health | :06:06. | :06:08.
delivery for the residents of Buckinghamshire, bearing in mind the | :06:09. | :06:11.
national changes that all of these trusts have to make throughout the | :06:12. | :06:20.
country. The real test will be in two months when the results of a new | :06:21. | :06:24.
inspection carried out just a few weeks ago will be published. One of | :06:25. | :06:29.
Oxfordshire's busiest roads is to close over the summer for | :06:30. | :06:35.
resurfacing. A section of the A420 near Shrivenham will be shut for | :06:36. | :06:39.
seven weeks from July 21st. The Council says they'll put weight | :06:40. | :06:42.
limits in place and have diversions signposted while the road is | :06:43. | :06:43.
reconstructed. . For now, goodnight reconstructed. . For now, goodnight | :06:44. | :06:49.
I'll leave you with the weather` here's Alexis Green. | :06:50. | :06:56.
We are looking at temperatures in our towns and cities of down to two | :06:57. | :07:01.
degrees of four degrees Celsius and in country areas towards the | :07:02. | :07:07.
freezing mark. Tomorrow will be very like today with lots of sunshine and | :07:08. | :07:14.
in the sunshine it will be pleasantly warm with a high of 14 or | :07:15. | :07:25.
possibly 15 Celsius 50... As we head towards Friday, it brightens June | :07:26. | :07:29.
the day. And over the National hopefully warmer. This is a summary | :07:30. | :07:35.
and the look at the National forecast. | :07:36. | :07:42.
The sun has set on another beautiful day. Like last night, temperatures | :07:43. | :07:46.
have taken a nosedive this evening. It will be a cold night for the | :07:47. | :07:51.
middle of April. Temperature is well down into single figures in towns | :07:52. | :07:55.
and cities. Across eastern England in rural spots, close to freezing. | :07:56. | :08:00.
We are expecting another frost across many parts of England and | :08:01. | :08:04.
where. For Northern Ireland and Scotland, temperatures were covering | :08:05. | :08:07.
later in the night but for most of us, a cold but sunny start. The last | :08:08. | :08:14.
one for a while. We will see cloud increasing across Northern Ireland | :08:15. | :08:17.
and Scotland, the breeze freshening and rain heading into the far | :08:18. | :08:21.
north-west. Further south, a sunny day for most of England and Wales. | :08:22. | :08:27.
Clouds are rare and temperatures will bounce back nicely. On the | :08:28. | :08:31.
coastal fringes, quite cool. The breeze will have an edge to it. | :08:32. | :08:36.
Inland, warming up nicely and former than today in some places across | :08:37. | :08:40.
southeastern England. For Northern Ireland and Scotland it will be a | :08:41. | :08:43.
cooler day than today with the breeze increasing and cloud and | :08:44. | :08:47.
rain, particularly for the | :08:48. | :08:48. |
