The man accused of murdering Connor Tremble says he'd gone to see

:00:00.:00:12.

him to buy heroin ` to take his own life with a drugs overdose.

:00:13.:00:16.

We find out about the options for pupils` who now have to stay in some

:00:17.:00:22.

Flower power ` why a million pounds worth of blooms are being

:00:23.:00:30.

addicted to speed from 170 miles an hour on four wheels.

:00:31.:00:39.

to 90 miles an hour head first ` a new challenge for Alice Powell.

:00:40.:00:54.

A man accused of murdering his teenage love rival in Oxford `

:00:55.:00:58.

has told a jury he'd planned to take his own life with a drugs overdose.

:00:59.:01:02.

21 year old Will Blencowe said he'd had visited Connor Tremble's house

:01:03.:01:06.

17 year old Connor was stabbed multiple times in February and

:01:07.:01:11.

Will Blencowe from Banbury told the court he suffers from paranoia

:01:12.:01:21.

and anxiety, has a history of self harming and had attempted to

:01:22.:01:23.

One the morning of 13th February, Mr Blencowe said he planned to kill

:01:24.:01:30.

He'd told his support worker he was missing

:01:31.:01:35.

his ex`girlfriend Aimee Harrison who was now dating Connor Tremble.

:01:36.:01:41.

Mr Blencowe told the jury he took a taxi to Connor's flat in Oxford

:01:42.:01:45.

to buy the drugs and then leave, but when he got there Connor was

:01:46.:01:48.

He said the pair struggled, he felt he wasn't in control of his own body

:01:49.:01:57.

but he remembers stabbing Connor in the back then got up and ran out.

:01:58.:02:01.

He claims he couldn't tell what was real or false and was

:02:02.:02:05.

He said he got back in the taxi and went to Witney to see his mum,

:02:06.:02:11.

then he got a lift to see friends and then

:02:12.:02:14.

travelled onto Stratford upon Avon where he spent a night in a B

:02:15.:02:17.

During that time he was given fresh clothes and trainers

:02:18.:02:20.

and described the series of events as like "being in a fairytale world"

:02:21.:02:23.

Asked if he meant to kill Connor Tremble he said, "No,

:02:24.:02:28.

"I never wanted to fight Connor, I'm sorry about what happened that day

:02:29.:02:34.

Will Blencowe denies murder, two other men

:02:35.:02:37.

on trial deny perverting the course of justice, the case continues.

:02:38.:02:45.

An investigation's underway after a man died

:02:46.:02:46.

when the light aircraft he was flying crashed in Buckinghamshire.

:02:47.:02:50.

The pilot, who was in his sixties, was the only person on board.

:02:51.:02:53.

His plane crashed into a field at Hedge Farm near Buckingham

:02:54.:02:56.

Air accident officials have spent the day at the site.

:02:57.:03:04.

Police in Milton Keynes have released an image of a man they want

:03:05.:03:07.

to speak to in connection with the rape of a teenager.

:03:08.:03:10.

The 18 year old woman was attacked in Fishermead on August the third.

:03:11.:03:14.

It's understood she passed a group of men before one

:03:15.:03:16.

Police also want to identify five men filmed by CCTV at the time.

:03:17.:03:24.

The Labour Party has set out its plans for reforming energy

:03:25.:03:26.

Several years ago the town had the highest death rate

:03:27.:03:31.

It only slightly improved last winter.

:03:32.:03:36.

Shadow Energy spokeswoman, Caroline Flint, has pledged that

:03:37.:03:39.

a future Labour government would give regulators the power to revoke

:03:40.:03:42.

energy companies' licences, where there are repeated breaches

:03:43.:03:44.

If we have a situation where a company pays a fine and commits

:03:45.:03:52.

the same offence again where there are repeated offences we should go

:03:53.:03:55.

to looking at removing the licence for them to sell energy to us.

:03:56.:04:00.

That is a strong message about paying fines is not just one

:04:01.:04:05.

It's been an anxious day for thousands of teenagers

:04:06.:04:15.

across our region ` as GCSE results have been published.

:04:16.:04:17.

There's been extra cause for concern this year after warnings

:04:18.:04:19.

of "volatility" in results following an overhaul of the system.

:04:20.:04:23.

Coursework was removed from many subjects,

:04:24.:04:25.

It's been a long wait, but the moment has finally arrived.

:04:26.:04:34.

GCSE results day at The Grange School in Aylesbury.

:04:35.:04:39.

It is more relief because you wait for so long.

:04:40.:04:48.

I am ecstatic because I have worked for years to achieve this.

:04:49.:04:53.

For these 16 year olds, their future lies in these brown

:04:54.:05:01.

envelopes and across our region results are up ` slightly.

:05:02.:05:05.

In the South East ` just over 7% of entries achieved grades A* to C.

:05:06.:05:10.

But across the country just over 73% of girls

:05:11.:05:13.

achieved those top marks, whilst only 64% of boys managed the same.

:05:14.:05:19.

For the teachers today is the culmination of many hours

:05:20.:05:21.

of hard work in and out of the classroom ` a day when they too

:05:22.:05:25.

We go into exams day with an expectation the students will

:05:26.:05:35.

achieve, you watch them closely and make estimates, we expect them

:05:36.:05:39.

to achieve certain results and relieved they have achieved what

:05:40.:05:42.

Whatever the results these young people must continue in some form of

:05:43.:05:51.

learning until they're 18 years old, but the message is no matter what

:05:52.:05:54.

They can continue in sixth form, go to a different sixth form,

:05:55.:06:01.

they can do an apprenticeship where they can earn and learn, a college

:06:02.:06:06.

or training provider so lots of choices and options for them.

:06:07.:06:10.

So the long wait is over and now the fun can begin.

:06:11.:06:14.

Earlier, I spoke to Annie Dobson from the Exam Results Helpline.

:06:15.:06:25.

I asked her what options were available for pupils who didn't'

:06:26.:06:27.

They could consider going back to do retakes next year.

:06:28.:06:34.

Maybe they could be more realistic and think perhaps they have to be

:06:35.:06:38.

thoroughly more vocational, they can go to college and take

:06:39.:06:42.

vocational courses or they could think about employment with training

:06:43.:06:45.

This is the first time pupils must stay in education until 18.

:06:46.:06:52.

What choices they have because they do not have to stay

:06:53.:06:55.

No, they could go to college, there's a huge array of choice

:06:56.:07:01.

at college, they could also work as long

:07:02.:07:04.

as they do some form of learning so that could be an evening class and

:07:05.:07:08.

Again, as long as they do some form of training

:07:09.:07:13.

It can feel like a pressure to make a decision about what to do with

:07:14.:07:25.

your life but most pupils will only be 16, they could work until they

:07:26.:07:28.

It is important to keep calm and think

:07:29.:07:34.

It is important to research the options as well

:07:35.:07:46.

so they are making informed decisions about where they go next.

:07:47.:07:49.

Campaigners challenging an upcoming badger cull in Gloucestershire

:07:50.:07:56.

and Somerset have taken their case to the High Court today.

:07:57.:08:00.

The Badger Trust says the Government's failure to appoint

:08:01.:08:02.

an independent panel to oversee culling is unlawful.

:08:03.:08:07.

It claims that a team of reviewers is needed to judge

:08:08.:08:09.

the effectiveness of the culls, which are planned for this autumn.

:08:10.:08:12.

Last year's pilot, designed to reduce bovine TB numbers,

:08:13.:08:14.

We see figures from last year and were revised

:08:15.:08:23.

and even their own people said this isn't working, etc etc.

:08:24.:08:27.

I am afraid trust has gone out of the flipping window.

:08:28.:08:32.

It is public opinion that will force a change.

:08:33.:08:35.

They say they'll put an independent assessor in

:08:36.:08:37.

We are halfway to where we want them to be.

:08:38.:08:42.

Put the panel back in place, and let's get a full report, that is

:08:43.:08:45.

what MPs and the public want and that is what they should be doing.

:08:46.:08:51.

It's billed as the biggest contemporary cut flower

:08:52.:08:53.

From tomorrow ` a million pounds worth of flowers will be on display

:08:54.:08:59.

at Oxford University's Lady Margaret Hall and thousands of people are

:09:00.:09:01.

Many local businesses will be showcasing

:09:02.:09:06.

their own special designs` as Peter Cooke has been finding out.

:09:07.:09:11.

From the very beautiful to the rather more unusual.

:09:12.:09:14.

But something which it's hoped might become

:09:15.:09:19.

And with some four thousand national and international visitors expected

:09:20.:09:25.

` it's good news for local businesses.

:09:26.:09:28.

So many people have booked accommodation, eating meals out,

:09:29.:09:32.

buying flowers from the florists and we have had to

:09:33.:09:37.

The location is equally important for others invited to take part.

:09:38.:09:46.

Great to be local because we do bedding work in Oxford

:09:47.:09:49.

So, we have a Saturday shop where we sell flowers and do pick your own.

:09:50.:09:59.

To be here and have local people see what we are doing

:10:00.:10:04.

Designers have travelled from as far away as Hong Kong and Canada

:10:05.:10:11.

As well as displays there'll be workshops and competitions.

:10:12.:10:16.

And some think it could even inspire others to become

:10:17.:10:19.

This sort of thing creates enthusiasm.

:10:20.:10:25.

They get excited about what they see and they want to do something,

:10:26.:10:29.

they do not want the traditional pedestals, it has to be out there.

:10:30.:10:34.

It is great if we can stimulate youngsters, that's what we want.

:10:35.:10:40.

So if this proves a success, businesses could well be blooming

:10:41.:10:46.

I'll have the headlines at 8 and a full bulletin at 10.25.

:10:47.:11:08.

Still to come in this evening's South Today: from Afghanistan to the

:11:09.:11:11.

Olympic Park, the veteran finding his own way to remember those who

:11:12.:11:14.

They've been called "party houses" with talk of "naked butlers" and

:11:15.:11:22.

"prostitutes" disturbing the sleep of residents in one of the most

:11:23.:11:25.

affluent parts of Dorset. Now the council in Poole is taking legal

:11:26.:11:28.

action against properties where stag and hen nights have been regularly

:11:29.:11:30.

staged. Lets join Our reporter, Sarah Farmer.

:11:31.:11:45.

I am in sandbanks, one of the most exclusive areas. You can see one or

:11:46.:11:53.

two of the houses nestled amongst the trees. A prime location of

:11:54.:12:00.

luxury. But for some people living here, they say their home is no

:12:01.:12:04.

longer their sanctuary because of these "party houses".

:12:05.:12:08.

Think of stag dos and hen parties and you might picture rowdy

:12:09.:12:11.

But now celebrations are moving to residential neighbourhoods,

:12:12.:12:14.

You'd have groups of drunken women falling out

:12:15.:12:20.

If you've got groups of lads in on a stag weekend, you'd have

:12:21.:12:24.

football in the garden, jeering, you might have the stripper turning up.

:12:25.:12:27.

The noise level from that is quite significant.

:12:28.:12:33.

Jen and Steve Cameron live close to one property being rented out

:12:34.:12:36.

They set up the Party House Action Group.

:12:37.:12:42.

They should require planning permission to run these sorts of

:12:43.:12:44.

When you have 16, 18 people in a four`bedroom house,

:12:45.:12:50.

you have a multiple occupancy situation, whereby you need to have

:12:51.:12:52.

fire alarms and you need to have fire extinguishers.

:12:53.:12:57.

The alleged party houses are being investigated by

:12:58.:12:59.

The planning team say they have issued a noise abatement notice.

:13:00.:13:06.

They are gathering information about another property

:13:07.:13:09.

and have found that one property has had a change of use.

:13:10.:13:12.

The council is doing its very best to address the situation.

:13:13.:13:16.

But it has to address each situation on its own merits to see

:13:17.:13:19.

which avenue of legislation is the best way to conclude the matter.

:13:20.:13:25.

Homeowners are hoping the council take action soon to stop

:13:26.:13:27.

their suburban streets from becoming night`time nuisance spots.

:13:28.:13:40.

Jen and Steve Cameron say they dread each Friday, not knowing who will be

:13:41.:13:45.

in the neighbouring property that weekend. They have tried to sell

:13:46.:13:50.

their property but without success. They are determined for action to be

:13:51.:13:54.

taken and for their house to become their home once more. The time to

:13:55.:14:10.

talk to us is now, so see people in relation to march with military

:14:11.:14:14.

port. They're concerned about plans to release the port to a private

:14:15.:14:20.

company. They took their concerns to Downing Street today. We want to

:14:21.:14:28.

know more. We want them to tell us more before they make their minds

:14:29.:14:33.

up. One clear message to the Government. 2000 names. We don't

:14:34.:14:39.

want march would to be damaged irretrievably. For 70 years, the

:14:40.:14:45.

Army's vehicles and supplies have been shipped in a note of Marchwood

:14:46.:14:52.

military port. Now there are plans to release the site of a commercial

:14:53.:14:57.

operator. ABP is the leading contender, which runs the port of

:14:58.:15:01.

Southampton. We're afraid they will use a four car storage. That means

:15:02.:15:05.

hundreds of extra lorries per day in a which already has, as you may have

:15:06.:15:11.

noticed, 1500 lorries per day. Whoever takes over the port will

:15:12.:15:14.

provide services back to the Ministry of Defence. With tensions

:15:15.:15:16.

are splitting in the Middle, campaigners argue that timing of

:15:17.:15:23.

this deal is wrong. We had chemicals coming back from Syria here. For the

:15:24.:15:26.

Government put that the hands of private enterprise is frankly

:15:27.:15:35.

ridiculous. The MoD says that any change would go through the process

:15:36.:15:39.

allowing local comments to be incorporated. It says it has already

:15:40.:15:43.

engaged with the local Varty and local MP to ensure local views are

:15:44.:15:48.

heard. The MoD wants to complete the deal early next year. As local

:15:49.:15:52.

councillors delivered the petition this afternoon, they are that any

:15:53.:15:57.

decision should be put on hold. It is a case of making sure that

:15:58.:16:00.

whatever happens to Marchwood in future does not mean that life

:16:01.:16:02.

becomes a nightmare for the people who live there. That is why 2000

:16:03.:16:07.

people are demanding to be part of that debate right now.

:16:08.:16:18.

A group of residents at Pagham, in West Sussex, are waiting for a barge

:16:19.:16:22.

containing a thousand tons of rock, from Norway ` which they hope will

:16:23.:16:25.

help shore up their coastal defences. The owners of beachfront

:16:26.:16:27.

homes in Pagham, near Bognor Regis, have been under threat from the sea.

:16:28.:16:30.

Emergency repairs were needed when the New Year storms and subsequent

:16:31.:16:33.

bad weather washed away the sea defences. The government says it's

:16:34.:16:35.

ready to assist local councils in finding a solution.

:16:36.:16:43.

Poole received a boost yesterday with Condor Ferries' announcement

:16:44.:16:45.

that it would run all its fast ferries from there after pulling out

:16:46.:16:48.

of Weymouth. But today another operator confirmed it was ending

:16:49.:16:51.

operations from the port. French company LD Lines is withdrawing its

:16:52.:16:53.

services between Poole and ports in northern Spain. Business was not as

:16:54.:16:56.

good as the firm had hoped when it launched last Autumn. Rival Brittany

:16:57.:16:59.

Ferries operates a similar service from Portsmouth.

:17:00.:17:09.

I'm just bored now. It is all about speed `` let's talk about sport now.

:17:10.:17:25.

We had confusion about a takeover. They are still bringing in players.

:17:26.:17:31.

Oliver Norwood has signed a contract with the Madejski Stadium. An

:17:32.:17:36.

undisclosed sum to Huddersfield. He has made almost 100 championship

:17:37.:17:40.

appearances. He has also played for Scunthorpe. He will go straight to

:17:41.:17:47.

the squad for Saturday's game against Nottingham Forest. Here's a

:17:48.:17:54.

good football player. Athletic, energetic. They can score goals.

:17:55.:18:00.

Excited that this is another player we have managed to get. ? la spiral

:18:01.:18:16.

could be about to turn her back on motorsport `` Alice Powell.

:18:17.:18:23.

A love of speed, determination and skill has seen Chipping

:18:24.:18:26.

Norton's Alice Powell's career on track to achieve great things.

:18:27.:18:30.

She's the only woman ever to win a Formula Renault title `

:18:31.:18:33.

a series that helped the likes of Lewis Hamilton to F1.

:18:34.:18:36.

But despite claims of one`day competing in Formula 1,

:18:37.:18:38.

the 21`year`old is planning a radical career change ` to this...

:18:39.:18:44.

The skeleton bob ` and representing her country

:18:45.:18:49.

I saw the skeleton on the TV at the start of this year with the Winter

:18:50.:18:54.

Olympics and thought to myself, "I'd love to have a go at that".

:18:55.:18:57.

Even if it's just to have a go, going down the ice, 90 miles per

:18:58.:19:02.

hour, chin scraping the ice. It just looked fantastic to me.

:19:03.:19:06.

In between races, Alice trains here at Lotus F1.

:19:07.:19:08.

She need strong leg and neck muscles to cope with

:19:09.:19:12.

Her trainer thinks that will give her an advantage on the ice.

:19:13.:19:19.

Knowing and understanding how your body can cope with G`force,

:19:20.:19:21.

how to position yourself, I think she's very well capable

:19:22.:19:25.

of that so she has an advantage over a lot of the athletes.

:19:26.:19:33.

This week, Alice finds out whether she's through to the final round of

:19:34.:19:37.

She hopes the lottery funded sport will be much more accessible than

:19:38.:19:43.

struggling to raise astronomical sums to compete in motor sport.

:19:44.:19:47.

Then Formula 1, you could be talking over 5 million or ?10 million.

:19:48.:19:52.

It's just so hard to find a sponsor unless your family is really rich or

:19:53.:19:56.

But having spent most of her childhood behind the wheel, won't

:19:57.:20:04.

I've been doing it as I was eight years old.

:20:05.:20:12.

I'm 21 now, so it has been nearly my entire life.

:20:13.:20:15.

But if a chance comes along like this, I won't be turning it down.

:20:16.:20:27.

Alice is waiting by the phone and we will let you know how she gets on.

:20:28.:20:37.

The county are heading to Birmingham for final stage. The home side

:20:38.:20:48.

bowled out for just 172. A few moments ago, Yorkshire 114`3. That

:20:49.:20:58.

game has been rain delayed. Poole Pirates had another convincing win

:20:59.:21:00.

last night. They beat Leicester 59`31. There was a dramatic end.

:21:01.:21:10.

Darcy Ward goes up... Shoulder to shoulder with the Leicester river.

:21:11.:21:14.

The good news is that Darcy Ward got up and is all right. Dramatic stuff.

:21:15.:21:22.

I am sure you have seen the ice bucket challenge. Two of our

:21:23.:21:28.

football managers got in on the act today. Portsmouth's Andy Awford was

:21:29.:21:36.

dumped. Our cameras caught Nigel Adkins being soaked. He took that

:21:37.:21:49.

well, I thought! Look at the! The goalkeeper getting a shower. That is

:21:50.:21:59.

another thing you could try! You have to be nominated, apparently. We

:22:00.:22:08.

could do that! Very quickly, Paul Gascoigne has been signed to play

:22:09.:22:13.

for a Sunday league side in Poole. He has been living in Dorset in

:22:14.:22:17.

recent years and has signed with a division foresight, Amber. Today the

:22:18.:22:42.

charity that helps him launch an appeal had our reporter at.

:22:43.:22:45.

After 10 years in the Army, hole left in 2011,

:22:46.:22:51.

His Post`traumatic Stress Disorder was so bad,

:22:52.:22:54.

Now, Veterans In Action has helped him get back in the saddle.

:22:55.:22:59.

My wife said, did you know that since you came back to the UK,

:23:00.:23:03.

Everything just fell to bits, really.

:23:04.:23:05.

I made quite a few attempts on my own life.

:23:06.:23:09.

Eventually I met Billy from Veterans In Action.

:23:10.:23:11.

He started to get me out the house and get engaged

:23:12.:23:14.

It's something to aim for, having that challenge...

:23:15.:23:17.

The charity helps former servicemen and women adjust to life on

:23:18.:23:21.

CivvyStreet and manage PTSD using a combination of physical challenges.

:23:22.:23:23.

It's what founder Billy describes as "adventure therapy".

:23:24.:23:28.

It builds their confidence and self`esteem.

:23:29.:23:32.

They actually feel they can become a member of a team again.

:23:33.:23:35.

The nature of Post`traumatic Stress Disorder is that people

:23:36.:23:37.

They lose all their friends and family.

:23:38.:23:41.

It's a breakdown of where they fit into society.

:23:42.:23:43.

It's not just recent veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq.

:23:44.:23:51.

The charity also works with those who served in Northern Ireland

:23:52.:23:54.

Now more involved in the charity, Paul is using his own challenges to

:23:55.:23:58.

Next month he is competing in the Invictus Games.

:23:59.:24:04.

Launched by Prince Harry, it's an international competition

:24:05.:24:07.

It's really overwhelming to think how far I have come

:24:08.:24:13.

from not wanting to be around my own family in my house to

:24:14.:24:16.

competing in a massive stadium in front of huge crowds, televised.

:24:17.:24:19.

I am really flattered and pleased at the help that is available

:24:20.:24:25.

Now the weather. There was nearly frost this morning. We have been

:24:26.:24:58.

asking for your pictures. This is the Magic roundabout in Chichester.

:24:59.:25:09.

These are kite surfers. This is a shot in full motion. Many football.

:25:10.:25:21.

Rain is on the cards tonight. Last night, down to two Celsius. Tonight,

:25:22.:25:29.

down 2849 degrees. A low of around 12 to 15 Celsius. That is average

:25:30.:25:32.

for this time of year. Showers will ease. A damp start for some

:25:33.:25:40.

tomorrow, but it will be an improving picture. Sunny spells will

:25:41.:25:48.

start to develop. A breezy afternoon. That's coming in from the

:25:49.:25:54.

West or north west. Showers are a possibility. Chilly temperatures

:25:55.:26:04.

tonight. It will turn called in the countryside. In rural areas, don't

:26:05.:26:14.

to two or three degrees. The bank holiday weekend begins on a decent

:26:15.:26:19.

note. High`pressure will stay in charge of our weather. Not

:26:20.:26:27.

wall`to`wall sunshine. But a cold start. Sunday is decent with

:26:28.:26:32.

increasing cloud later. Then this weather front means a change for

:26:33.:26:38.

Bank Holiday Monday. Unsettled with rain and winds. Lots of events

:26:39.:26:46.

taking place this weekend. We have this fear. This year, a female

:26:47.:26:58.

equestrian gymnastic team will perform. A chance of wet and windy

:26:59.:27:12.

conditions for this event. A fairly decent start to the weekend.

:27:13.:27:16.

Tomorrow, the risk of a shower. Also on Saturday. Sunday has increasing

:27:17.:27:26.

cloud. It turns unsettled on Monday. That is all from us this evening.

:27:27.:27:33.

Tomorrow night, we will have highlights from the Reading

:27:34.:27:37.

Festival. Join us for that. Have a great evening.
