Welcome to the programme. The headlines: Buried for 10 days and a

:00:15.:00:19.

landslide. Amman and women missing from

:00:19.:00:22.

Somerset are found dead in their car in a tunnel.

:00:22.:00:32.
:00:32.:00:33.

A family speak of their devastation over the deaths of a father and

:00:33.:00:37.

three children. We have three young children who have been murdered,

:00:37.:00:43.

and we're in the process of establishing how that came to be.

:00:43.:00:46.

Jailed for two-and-a-half years, the Cheltenham man making

:00:46.:00:50.

explosives in his garage. And life after the Olympics. How

:00:50.:00:55.

cash from the Games is helping the local clubs find tomorrow's medal

:00:55.:01:04.

winners. First tonight, a man and women from

:01:04.:01:07.

Somerset have been found dead more than a week after their car was

:01:07.:01:14.

buried under tons of earth in a vehicle in Dorset. The vehicle was

:01:14.:01:19.

discovered in Beaminster last night. The landslide happened after

:01:19.:01:24.

flooding caused all landslide. Undiscovered for 10 days. A car

:01:24.:01:27.

containing bodies of an elderly man and woman was buried under this

:01:27.:01:34.

Lancelot. We filmed here last week, oblivious to what lay beneath. Only

:01:34.:01:38.

today was the car recovered after Avon and Somerset police last night

:01:38.:01:47.

traced two missing people. Members of the public may ask why it took

:01:47.:01:51.

10 days to discover the bodies. I offer my condolences to families of

:01:51.:01:57.

those who perished, but it was a very busy weekend, there were no

:01:57.:02:02.

obvious signs of a vehicle buried. There were several hundred tons of

:02:03.:02:06.

mud. There were no reports of missing people in the area. The

:02:06.:02:13.

bridge had been secured safely, and it was only when concerns were

:02:13.:02:16.

raised by the police yesterday that we began to search, and the vehicle

:02:16.:02:22.

was discovered. The discovery of the bodies has caused shock in the

:02:22.:02:28.

village. What really shocks me is that no one thought to search the

:02:28.:02:32.

tunnel when it happened. Surely cars could have been going through

:02:32.:02:37.

when it collapsed. I think everyone just cannot believe it has happened.

:02:37.:02:40.

You cannot believe someone has been there for more than a week. I

:02:40.:02:46.

cannot believe it at all. It is shocking, horrifying. It could have

:02:46.:02:51.

happened to anyone. Everyone is amazed that no one else has died.

:02:51.:02:54.

The landslide is believed to have been caused by prolonged heavy rain

:02:55.:02:58.

and flooding in the area. The ground is vulnerable to such

:02:58.:03:07.

landslides. Because that area is built on porous rock which carries

:03:07.:03:11.

a lot of water beneath the surface, it is always going to be prone to

:03:11.:03:18.

Lancelot, especially when there is so much rainfall. -- prone to

:03:18.:03:22.

landslides. The board remains closed us officers continue their

:03:22.:03:31.

investigations. No one could say when the road might open.

:03:31.:03:36.

In the last half-hour, we have learned that one of the victims was

:03:36.:03:46.

Rosemary Snell. She was well known in the Women's Institute. She was

:03:46.:03:49.

also a trustee of the Henhaze Community Centre. Fellow trustees

:03:49.:03:59.
:03:59.:04:01.

spoke of her son -- the sadness to the ride. Total shock. She was one

:04:01.:04:05.

of those people who would benefit us and the community for a long

:04:05.:04:09.

time to come because of her knowledge and outgoing personality.

:04:09.:04:15.

She was wonderful. Horrified. The fact that she must have been there

:04:15.:04:19.

10 days. No one had thought of looking. Does that surprise you?

:04:19.:04:24.

Yes, definitely. You would think someone would have looked through

:04:24.:04:28.

what was in the tunnel and made inquiries.

:04:28.:04:31.

The Gloucestershire mother of three children found dead in a wood land

:04:31.:04:37.

in Shropshire has spoken of her complete devastation and grief. The

:04:37.:04:40.

bodies of seven year-old Charlotte, eight year-old Becker, and Twelve-

:04:40.:04:44.

year-old some were discovered yesterday, along with the body of

:04:44.:04:50.

their father. -- Becka. Police say they are investigating

:04:50.:04:53.

whether Ceri Fuller killed his son and daughters before taking his own

:04:53.:04:59.

life, and they confirmed tonight has been found near the crime scene.

:04:59.:05:09.
:05:09.:05:11.

-- and an knife has been found. This morning this church was full

:05:11.:05:17.

of school friends of some, Rebecca and Charlie. You can see paper

:05:17.:05:21.

hearts used in the service this morning. Today has been another

:05:21.:05:24.

difficult day for the community, after the shock and sadness of

:05:24.:05:30.

yesterday, as more details emerge. The thought that Ceri Fuller may

:05:30.:05:40.

have taken his own children's life fund in his own is difficult for

:05:40.:05:46.

people to comprehend. His wife Ruth has released a statement which says,

:05:46.:05:50.

I do not have the words to describe how I feel at the moment. All I ask

:05:50.:05:55.

as I am left alone to grieve for my family. Near the scene where the

:05:55.:05:59.

bodies were found, a token of respect from those of a similar age.

:05:59.:06:02.

They would not have known each other, but the tragedy has touched

:06:02.:06:07.

everyone living here. Today chilling news from within the

:06:07.:06:11.

murder investigation, that one major line of inquiry, Ceri Fuller

:06:11.:06:19.

may have killed his children before killing himself. We discovered a

:06:19.:06:23.

knife at the scene today, which is going for forensic examination

:06:23.:06:30.

later to see what involvement it played. A post-mortem examination

:06:30.:06:34.

is taking place today, running into tomorrow. We have had another

:06:34.:06:38.

assessment of the crime scene, and there are officers arriving to do a

:06:38.:06:42.

thorough search of it. It has always been revealed that ambulance

:06:42.:06:45.

-- by ambulance crews that nothing could have been done to save the

:06:45.:06:50.

family. A family statement was released today from Ceri Fuller's

:06:50.:07:00.
:07:00.:07:08.

His relationship with them was one of involvement and nurturing. They

:07:08.:07:12.

were such charming children brought up in an environment of love. We

:07:12.:07:16.

cannot begin to imagine what was going through the mind of such a

:07:16.:07:22.

gentle man to drive and to such tragic actions. Back in the Forest

:07:22.:07:25.

of Dean, the grief and the community is wrong. Last night,

:07:25.:07:32.

organised by the parents, a candlelit vigil was held at the

:07:32.:07:40.

school where Charlie and Rebecca were pupils. We are in deep shock.

:07:40.:07:45.

It is not nice. It is just devastating. Three lovely children,

:07:45.:07:52.

a lovely family. Did you know the family? Yes, we have had one of the

:07:52.:07:59.

giggles over for tea. She was a lovely girl. -- one of the girls.

:07:59.:08:04.

She was lovely. Very lively. What was supposed to be a leaving

:08:04.:08:13.

service today became a memorial service instead. I asked people to

:08:13.:08:19.

bring their sad, angry, bad feelings, and to offer them, and

:08:19.:08:26.

Italy to remember the good, happy feelings that really drew them to

:08:26.:08:36.
:08:36.:08:36.

Charlotte and Rebecca and to some. The focus is now one -- now to help

:08:36.:08:41.

people grieving. We ask people to hold a heart in the hands and think

:08:41.:08:51.
:08:51.:08:51.

of all their feelings, the bad feelings, confusion, and then be

:08:51.:08:55.

collect them in, and place them here, as a sense of laying down the

:08:55.:09:00.

feelings and offering them to God. It was very moving. At the home

:09:00.:09:04.

where the family led an apparently quiet life, a team have been

:09:04.:09:10.

searching bedrooms and belongings. They are focusing on whether a

:09:10.:09:15.

father indeed felt compelled to take the lives of his children.

:09:15.:09:18.

It is fair to say that it is becoming a focal point for the

:09:18.:09:25.

community at the church. There are books of condolence here. They have

:09:25.:09:29.

had the covers decorated by classmates from St John's Primary.

:09:29.:09:33.

There has been a steady stream of people coming to leave messages of

:09:33.:09:39.

love and support. Their memories, their feelings. Including the

:09:39.:09:42.

teachers and staff from the school. We have got to remember that they

:09:42.:09:44.

are trying to deal with keeping the school running as normal, helping

:09:45.:09:50.

to support those young children, and also dealing with the Greeks

:09:50.:09:54.

themselves. There have been many messages and images in the story. I

:09:54.:09:58.

can leave you with one tonight. From the reception class, its is

:09:58.:10:08.
:10:08.:10:10.

simpler, -- it says simply, we will miss playing with you for.

:10:10.:10:19.

Stay with us, as there is plenty more to bring tonight.

:10:19.:10:21.

Swindon is the fastest growing place in the south-west.

:10:21.:10:25.

And a change in the weather pattern is on the way by the tail-end of

:10:25.:10:28.

this week and into the weekend. There is the promise of some fine

:10:28.:10:33.

summer weather. Join me for details and an explanation as to why it is

:10:33.:10:38.

happening. We look forward to that forecast

:10:38.:10:42.

later. First, more news tonight. A grandfather from Cheltenham has

:10:42.:10:47.

been sent to prison for making explosives in his garage. Martin

:10:47.:10:50.

Counsell was caught after counter- terrorism police became suspicious

:10:50.:10:56.

when he tried to buy a fake MI6 identity card on the internet. He

:10:56.:10:59.

said the explosives were to protect his home from burglars, but they

:10:59.:11:07.

could have caused serious injury. Martin Counsell was a professional

:11:07.:11:11.

Electrical Engineer. After years of alcohol abuse, his marriage and

:11:11.:11:15.

business broke down. He became increasingly reclusive. He

:11:15.:11:21.

developed an obsessive fear or of his home being burgled. Inside his

:11:21.:11:25.

garage, his skill as an Engineer meant he was able to manufacture

:11:25.:11:28.

the same explosive used by terrorists in the London should

:11:28.:11:33.

bombings. He bought many of the party needed on eBay. Counter-

:11:33.:11:40.

terrorism police picked up his activity. Martin Counsell's defence

:11:40.:11:43.

team said the explosives were his own solution for scaring off

:11:43.:11:49.

burglars, but in court, the judge said that he was a very lonely man,

:11:49.:11:54.

making things in his garage which he should not have been. In May

:11:54.:11:58.

this year, the area was cordoned off, and his home and garage were

:11:58.:12:03.

searched. He admitted making 10 small bombs. More than 600 people

:12:03.:12:08.

were evacuated while experts carried out controlled explosives.

:12:08.:12:13.

A search of his computer showed that he had researched extensively

:12:13.:12:18.

techniques to make a bomb. The explosive he developed was one of

:12:18.:12:21.

her used commercially because it is so unstable, detonated by friction

:12:21.:12:29.

or a single spark. It also uncovered a home-made rocket

:12:29.:12:39.
:12:39.:12:44.

launcher. The court recognised that he went beyond reasonable behaviour,

:12:44.:12:50.

by it was not a terrorist. It is very easy for people to make

:12:50.:12:55.

explosives, unfortunately, in their own home. After his arrest, Martin

:12:55.:12:58.

Counsell wrote to a local newspaper to say he was sorry for what he had

:12:58.:13:03.

done. Now suffering from chronic liver problems, his life expectancy

:13:03.:13:08.

is only a few years. What he saw as a burglar booby trap, counter-

:13:08.:13:12.

terrorist police of as a dangerous bomb. He was given two and a half

:13:12.:13:22.
:13:22.:13:26.

years in prison, and will be A report out today says the West's

:13:26.:13:30.

biggest hospital trust was not properly prepared to introduce a

:13:30.:13:34.

multi-million-pound computer system which caused chaos for patients.

:13:34.:13:38.

According to the findings of an independent review, staff at

:13:38.:13:42.

Frenchay and Southmead hospitals were not adequately trained and

:13:42.:13:47.

could not cope. He any patience journey to our

:13:47.:13:51.

hospital appointments should be seamless, but in a largish Trust,

:13:51.:13:55.

patients and staff have been let down by the introduction of a new

:13:55.:14:00.

computer booking system which gave hundreds a false appointment. That

:14:00.:14:04.

is according to a review into the way it was rolled out. David Serle

:14:04.:14:09.

was one of the many people to contact us. He turned up for two

:14:09.:14:14.

consultations only to be turned away. I was met by a nurse who said,

:14:14.:14:20.

are you for the clinic? I said, yes. She said, oh no, not another one.

:14:20.:14:25.

Behind her were about another six people in the same situation as me

:14:25.:14:30.

finding that the clinic had been cancelled. The review concluded the

:14:30.:14:35.

trust lack skilled resources, training was inadequate and that

:14:35.:14:40.

external help offered at the time was refused. North Bristol should

:14:40.:14:47.

have learned from two earlier go live's in Bath and Oxford. Any just

:14:47.:14:52.

thinking of doing a project on this scale is to look carefully at their

:14:52.:14:56.

experience and the experience of other trusts in the NHS. The trust

:14:56.:15:01.

has now had to spend more than 4.5 million on correcting the problems.

:15:01.:15:06.

Today it is business as usual. The booking system is up and running

:15:06.:15:10.

and the trust have declined a request for an interview, but in a

:15:10.:15:15.

statement they say, overall implementation went as planned, but

:15:15.:15:20.

there were problems in theatres and with out-patient clinics were false

:15:20.:15:25.

appointments were set-up. The trust have again apologised, but stress

:15:25.:15:29.

that patient safety was not compromised.

:15:29.:15:33.

The man in charge is leaving the trust in August. The hospital say

:15:33.:15:37.

Martin Bell will be moving on to new challenges after a decade where

:15:37.:15:41.

there has been a radical improvement in their information

:15:41.:15:46.

technology. One of two men on trial for

:15:46.:15:52.

shooting dead a 21 year-old during a gun battle in Bristol was today

:15:52.:15:56.

accused of talking nonsense in the witness box. Shakah Anderson is

:15:56.:16:00.

alleged to be one of three gunmen who opened fire on the night of the

:16:01.:16:05.

St Paul's Carnival last year. He denies the charge. Our Home Affairs

:16:05.:16:09.

Correspondent was in court. Rico Gordon died in the arms of his

:16:10.:16:13.

sister as he was caught in the crossfire between two rival groups

:16:13.:16:18.

who had driven down from London. The prosecution claimed that Shakah

:16:18.:16:24.

Anderson, seen here, and Rickel Adams were among the gunmen

:16:24.:16:29.

shooting at each other. Rico Gordon died from a bullet wound to the

:16:29.:16:33.

head. When asked by his lawyer if he was carrying a gun in Bristol,

:16:33.:16:39.

Shakah Anderson replied, definitely not. He also denied sing again in

:16:39.:16:43.

the car he had travelled in. Giving evidence, Shakah Anderson

:16:43.:16:49.

said he was at a home in Bristol at the time of the shooting. However,

:16:49.:16:55.

the woman said he visited her two weeks before that night.

:16:55.:17:00.

Under cross-examination he denied having an argument with Rickel

:17:00.:17:04.

Adams or knowing we care Gordon. When asked if he shot at Rickel

:17:04.:17:10.

Adams he replied, no, I did not. He later admitted he had known

:17:10.:17:13.

Rickel Adams for many years and said he treated his mother like an

:17:13.:17:23.
:17:23.:17:27.

aunt. They both deny murder. It is official, the South West has

:17:27.:17:30.

the largest proportion of elderly people anywhere in the country and

:17:30.:17:36.

it is growing fast. One in five of our residents of 65

:17:36.:17:39.

or over, according to last year's census results which have just been

:17:39.:17:42.

published. Overall, the region's population

:17:42.:17:49.

grew by 7% in the last decade. Yes, the south-west has changed

:17:49.:17:54.

dramatically over the 10 years to 2011. The census provides an

:17:54.:17:58.

intriguing insight into the way we are changing and growing.

:17:58.:18:04.

Population is up, but some places are growing faster. There are 10%

:18:04.:18:08.

more people in Bristol while the rising cost and North Dorset was

:18:08.:18:14.

11%. The sharpest rise was Swindon which recorded a whopping 16%

:18:14.:18:20.

increase. More babies per 1000 are born in

:18:20.:18:25.

this bustling Welsh a town than anywhere else in Britain. Swindon

:18:25.:18:31.

baby booming in 1947. And the rapid population growth continues to this

:18:31.:18:38.

day, there now it is mostly people coming here to work. New homes, new

:18:38.:18:42.

lives for these relatively new arrivals. Lots for the children,

:18:42.:18:47.

good schools, so why things. You get here they are good jobs and it

:18:47.:18:50.

is difficult to leave. I came here because I have relatives in

:18:50.:18:55.

Somerset and London and Kent and I wanted to be the everybody. I just

:18:55.:19:00.

feel really welcome here. I have never felt so welcome so quickly.

:19:00.:19:04.

All those new families are part of Swindon's massive growth. Family is

:19:04.:19:09.

a living here on this housing development on the south side of

:19:09.:19:13.

Swindon which has now advanced so far that the town is batting up

:19:13.:19:18.

onto the M4. Old maps show Swindon's sustained

:19:18.:19:23.

growth. A town of their 18 eighties which boomed around his railway

:19:23.:19:28.

works well into the 1940s. When Rail were declined, the carmakers

:19:28.:19:34.

came to town. Honda among many modern businesses attracted to

:19:34.:19:38.

Swindon's location and flexible labour force. There are now growing

:19:38.:19:44.

pains. 1700 new homes have proved here on Swindon's northern edge,

:19:44.:19:49.

not without concerns from those who were there first. They don't build

:19:49.:19:53.

the schools to meet the needs of the houses all the roads or

:19:53.:20:00.

doctors' surgeries, shops, stuffy just mentioned. It is always

:20:00.:20:05.

lagging heart -- far behind. Managing the growth is a challenge.

:20:05.:20:09.

Two county grounds worth of people have been added to the town in 10

:20:09.:20:13.

years. Now Swindon has the second- highest proportion of elderly

:20:13.:20:19.

people in the UK. Although his income as he dashed here in the

:20:19.:20:23.

Forties and Fifties have grown up together.

:20:23.:20:28.

In fact, across the whole south- west the increasing numbers of

:20:28.:20:32.

older people are dramatic. One in five of us are aged 65 plus, the

:20:33.:20:36.

highest proportion in the country and is reckoned to be higher than

:20:36.:20:41.

anywhere in Europe. In Somerset a talk of the huge jump in people

:20:41.:20:46.

over 80 up by a quarter. That means a bigger than ever challenge for

:20:46.:20:50.

our councils to care for the elderly. The problem it has given

:20:50.:20:54.

us, we have been saying for 10 years, is that the south-west

:20:54.:20:59.

region is the oldest in Europe and one of the most underfunded for the

:20:59.:21:05.

older population in England. And just delighted that now it is being

:21:05.:21:08.

recognised as such. I am disappointed that no action has

:21:08.:21:13.

been taken to rectify the problems we will have. Because demand is

:21:13.:21:18.

rising, the many councils have to run crucial services is falling.

:21:18.:21:23.

That is not the only challenge they face. You might remember the scenes

:21:23.:21:27.

a year ago as extra classrooms reporting by crane to cope with the

:21:27.:21:31.

surge in numbers of children entering primary school. There will

:21:31.:21:36.

be even more of that. Across the south-west, the number of under-

:21:36.:21:41.

fives is up sharply and an extra 27,000 youngsters will soon be

:21:41.:21:45.

needing school places. Bentley very much for that.

:21:45.:21:50.

So interesting stuff. As the opening ceremony draws nearer and

:21:50.:21:54.

Olympic hopefuls get ready, the search is already on for the next

:21:54.:21:59.

generation of athletes. Yesterday, some local sports clubs

:21:59.:22:02.

were awarded National Lottery funding to help revamp and build

:22:02.:22:09.

new facilities. Just a bit of a touch of. Over the

:22:09.:22:14.

last 37 years, Dennis Stinchcombe has been an inspiration to hundreds

:22:14.:22:18.

of young people who walked into this gym. I think every young

:22:18.:22:24.

person has a spark. It is down to us to find the spark and notary it.

:22:24.:22:30.

I don't believe, they can have the words background in the world, but

:22:30.:22:33.

it may all wants someone to take an interest and guide them the right

:22:33.:22:38.
