Welcome to BBC Points West with Imogen Sellers and David Garmston

:00:10.:00:14.

Our main story tonight: Is the fire service in meltdown?

:00:15.:00:17.

Hundreds of firefighters have just walked out on strike. There'll be

:00:18.:00:21.

another stoppage tomorrow. Things are hotting up behind the scenes as

:00:22.:00:27.

well. Two more West Country fire services say they plan to merge

:00:28.:00:36.

The other stories making the news in the West: The father jailed for

:00:37.:00:41.

shaking his baby. The little girl dies after the assault. The NSPCC

:00:42.:00:49.

warn just how fragile babies are. No room at the inn ` a Christmas Day

:00:50.:00:53.

lunch for the lonely is so popular that some pensioners are being

:00:54.:00:55.

turned away. And carrying the hopes of the West

:00:56.:00:58.

Country ` will this rugby coach taste victory at Sunday's BBC Sports

:00:59.:01:10.

Personality Awards? Good evening. Hundreds of square

:01:11.:01:13.

miles of the West Country are without fire cover tonight after

:01:14.:01:16.

another walk`out by staff across the entire region. They went on strike

:01:17.:01:21.

at 6pm and will stay out for four hours. Fire chiefs are in the

:01:22.:01:29.

control room and a skeleton service will be in operation, staffed by

:01:30.:01:32.

managers and nonunion members. It's come on the day that two of our

:01:33.:01:35.

brigades in Wiltshire and Dorset have announced plans to merge, as

:01:36.:01:39.

the financial crisis in the fire service deepens. Scott Ellis is at a

:01:40.:01:43.

central fire station in Bristol tonight.

:01:44.:01:50.

On strike for the fifth time in recent weeks over plans to raise

:01:51.:01:54.

retirement from 55 to 60 and up their pension contributions. It s

:01:55.:01:56.

all because the Government wants to reduce public spending. And those

:01:57.:02:01.

cuts are so deep in Wiltshire and Dorset, they feel the only solution

:02:02.:02:05.

is to merge the two fire services. But unions will tell you bigger

:02:06.:02:08.

isn't better. Their managers might privately agree, but times are

:02:09.:02:13.

tough. Publicly, that is the message. Wiltshire's chief fire

:02:14.:02:18.

officer told us today that if he doesn't make savings, the brigade

:02:19.:02:22.

will go bust in two years' time For that reason, Wiltshire and Dorset

:02:23.:02:25.

fire services are planning to merge. The two fire authorities say it

:02:26.:02:29.

makes sense. They're both predominantly rural so attend

:02:30.:02:33.

similar call outs. Both mostly use firefighters who are on`call or

:02:34.:02:36.

retained, rather than full time And they already work together because

:02:37.:02:43.

of their shared border. The financial situation is fundamental.

:02:44.:02:47.

We have got to get our finances in line. Looking at 2017, we are

:02:48.:02:53.

looking at a significant budget deficit of around ?3 million to ?4

:02:54.:03:00.

million. It is about resilience and making sure the front line services

:03:01.:03:06.

not put at any risk at all. The joint fire service would become the

:03:07.:03:09.

fourth biggest in the UK. Saving money by sharing a control centre

:03:10.:03:12.

based in Devizes and reducing back`room staff. It's hoped that

:03:13.:03:15.

will lessen, not eliminate, the impact of cuts on front line staff.

:03:16.:03:21.

So, do Wiltshire's taxpayers buy it? As long as the service does not

:03:22.:03:27.

change, I cannot really see what the problem is. If it resulted in

:03:28.:03:33.

closing fire stations, then I would be a bit worried the fire engines

:03:34.:03:41.

would be further away from the outlying villages. It depends if the

:03:42.:03:47.

merge means they are better able to focus. I do not know whether that

:03:48.:03:55.

would be the case. Unions say mergers don't solve the underlying

:03:56.:03:58.

funding issues. Citing the example of the 2007 merger of Devon and

:03:59.:04:01.

Somerset fire brigades, the FBU says one in five front line staff still

:04:02.:04:07.

face losing their jobs. Managers say it has been a success and cuts would

:04:08.:04:11.

have been far worse without a merger. Wiltshire and Dorset may

:04:12.:04:17.

maintain separate identities after merger. Otherwise, one name option

:04:18.:04:20.

is the Wessex Fire and Rescue Service.

:04:21.:04:29.

Let us talk now to a man from the Fire Brigades Union. The chief says

:04:30.:04:33.

he will break bust in two years time and has no choice but to merge. It

:04:34.:04:40.

is symptomatic of what is becoming a financial crisis. Firefighters

:04:41.:04:45.

taking strike action in defence of their jobs and pensions. The

:04:46.:04:50.

efficiency comes from merging. You cannot have it both ways. When the

:04:51.:04:55.

two brigades come together, they will sell off assets. The cuts will

:04:56.:05:00.

catch them up. We have an example of this. Devon and Somerset say they

:05:01.:05:07.

are in a stronger position. The reality is they have recently put in

:05:08.:05:11.

place the most massive cuts we have seen in the south`west.

:05:12.:05:16.

150 front line jobs cut. The reality is that this will happen to the

:05:17.:05:20.

public, we will have a situation where once there were two pumps and

:05:21.:05:27.

now there is one. That is the station that responded to the M

:05:28.:05:32.

disaster. It will impact on public safety. There is another strike

:05:33.:05:43.

between 6pm and 10pm tomorrow night. A Bristol father who killed his

:05:44.:05:45.

four`month`old daughter has been jailed for six years. The little

:05:46.:05:49.

girl called Paris was shaken by her father after she had been crying.

:05:50.:05:52.

The tragedy has highlighted the number of children who've died after

:05:53.:05:55.

being shaken by their parents. Children's charities are now warning

:05:56.:05:57.

new parents just how vulnerable babies can be. Here's our home

:05:58.:06:00.

affairs correspondent Steve Brodie. Paris Vince Stephens was just 1

:06:01.:06:05.

weeks old when she died. During his trial, her father, 25`year`old

:06:06.:06:08.

William Stephens, admitted he'd shaken his daughter when he'd been

:06:09.:06:14.

left to look after her in January. When Paris was brought here to

:06:15.:06:17.

Bristol's Children's Hospital, she was discovered to be suffering from

:06:18.:06:20.

catastrophic head injuries and died three days later with irreversible

:06:21.:06:26.

brain damage. This image shows how easily babies can be injured by

:06:27.:06:30.

violent shaking. Children's charities are so concerned about the

:06:31.:06:33.

number of cases they're seeing they're going to warn all new

:06:34.:06:39.

parents of the dangers. They are hoping it will educate families that

:06:40.:06:44.

such an impulsive move could cause catastrophic harm. A family, if they

:06:45.:06:52.

are fraught and Andrey, if `` and angry, you put the baby down and

:06:53.:06:55.

leave them rather than having the moment of anger where you can cause

:06:56.:07:00.

so much harm. The court heard William Stephens had one of the

:07:01.:07:03.

lowest IQs in the country, had a history of violence and lied to

:07:04.:07:07.

paramedics when they were called to the flat where Paris and her mother

:07:08.:07:10.

Danah Vince were living. Jailing Stephens for six years, the judge Mr

:07:11.:07:13.

Justice Teare told him, no`one knows why you lost your temper and you

:07:14.:07:17.

yourself admitted that Paris was crying. This is not a case when a

:07:18.:07:20.

baby has recently been illtreated. Your actions were not premeditated,

:07:21.:07:23.

there were spontaneous, but they did result in a death. The sentence of

:07:24.:07:32.

six years made call for astonishment and among the public. They will say,

:07:33.:07:36.

how is it when you kill a baby you end up with six years? It is

:07:37.:07:40.

important the community understands this was a case of manslaughter He

:07:41.:07:45.

was not guilty of murder. He did not intend to kill the child. He did not

:07:46.:07:51.

intend to cause serious harm. Life sentences are generally for murder

:07:52.:07:56.

cases. A Serious Case Review into how Bristol City Council social

:07:57.:07:58.

workers handled the couple has been completed but will not be made

:07:59.:08:08.

public until the new year. Lawyers for the Bristol businessman

:08:09.:08:11.

Shrien Dewani have been at the High Court in London asking judges to

:08:12.:08:14.

block his extradition to South Africa. Mr Dewani wants to delay his

:08:15.:08:18.

removal to face trial over his wife Anni's death until he has recovered

:08:19.:08:21.

from mental health problems. Mr Dewani denies any involvement in his

:08:22.:08:26.

wife's death. She was shot while on their honeymoon outside Cape Town in

:08:27.:08:32.

November, 2010. It's been revealed there are plans

:08:33.:08:36.

to cut general surgery at Cheltenham General Hospital and move it to

:08:37.:08:38.

Gloucestershire Royal within the next five years. In a leaked

:08:39.:08:41.

document seen by the BBC, Gloucestershire's Hospitals Trust

:08:42.:08:43.

outlines proposals to centralise general surgery and breast surgery

:08:44.:08:47.

in the county by 2018. The trust has defended it, saying it was an

:08:48.:08:50.

internal document in its early stages.

:08:51.:09:01.

The parents of a seven`year`old who died after heart surgery in Bristol

:09:02.:09:04.

have been leaked a hospital report which claims poor care may have

:09:05.:09:07.

contributed to his death. Last month, a coroner ruled Luke's death

:09:08.:09:10.

was neither predictable nor preventable. But his solicitor says

:09:11.:09:13.

the latest report should have been disclosed to the inquest. This is

:09:14.:09:24.

what turned up at the Post Office. The address in this parcel looked as

:09:25.:09:28.

if it has been scrawled by a child. But the hospital report it contained

:09:29.:09:31.

into the death of Luke Jenkins has shocked his parents. They did not

:09:32.:09:37.

want us to see it. Somebody obviously did. It is very concerning

:09:38.:09:45.

why they felt the need not to give it to the coroner. It is about our

:09:46.:09:49.

son and we are in title to see this information. `` we at entitled.

:09:50.:09:56.

After life`saving heart surgery Luke was discharged early from

:09:57.:09:59.

intensive care to this ward which had far lower nursing cover.

:10:00.:10:02.

Improvements have since been made at the hospital, including this new

:10:03.:10:05.

High Depency Unit. There have been four separate investigations by the

:10:06.:10:08.

hospital into Luke's death. The first found staffing levels were

:10:09.:10:11.

unsafe and a failure to recognise Luke's deteriorating condition had

:10:12.:10:14.

contributed to his death. Next, a review found that poor communication

:10:15.:10:16.

and team working and inadequate recognition of the severity of his

:10:17.:10:20.

illness may have contributed to Luke's ill`health or death. A third

:10:21.:10:28.

inquiry was far less critical. It found that staffing levels were not

:10:29.:10:31.

to blame and that it wasn't possible to say if his death was preventable.

:10:32.:10:35.

All three reports were disclosed to the coroner who concluded there d

:10:36.:10:38.

been no gross failure by the hospital. But the coroner didn't see

:10:39.:10:42.

this fourth report which has been leaked to the family. It was carried

:10:43.:10:45.

out months before the inquest, but the hospital didn't disclose it It

:10:46.:10:49.

questions the thoroughness of the more positive third report. It says

:10:50.:10:53.

its conclusions might have lacked validity because it failed to

:10:54.:11:03.

scrutinise Luke's clinical notes. To have this new document which was

:11:04.:11:08.

prepared by the trust in June but has only been disclosed now and

:11:09.:11:15.

obviously the reluctance... We do not know the source of the document

:11:16.:11:20.

but it is clearly at the trust `` people at the trust who felt the

:11:21.:11:25.

family should know about this. In a statement, the hospital says this

:11:26.:11:28.

leaked report was not disclosed because the coroner was not looking

:11:29.:11:31.

into the trust's investigation of Luke's death. And that all relevant

:11:32.:11:34.

documents were submitted and independent experts called. But

:11:35.:11:38.

Luke's parents believe all the evidence should have been put before

:11:39.:11:41.

the coroner. They're still planning to take legal action against the

:11:42.:11:44.

hospital. The Health Service Ombudsman is also investigating

:11:45.:11:51.

Luke's care. You're watching BBC Points West on

:11:52.:11:56.

this Friday evening. Thank you for joining us on this

:11:57.:12:00.

rather damp and drizzly evening Ian is up the roof to tell us if there's

:12:01.:12:04.

more wet weather to come. Indeed there is. Thankfully not on me

:12:05.:12:10.

tonight. By tomorrow evening, it will be a different story. More

:12:11.:12:22.

detail later in the programme. He has not got a coat and it is

:12:23.:12:26.

December! Organisers of a Christmas Day lunch

:12:27.:12:28.

for isolated pensioners in Marlborough in Wiltshire have had to

:12:29.:12:31.

start turning people away. Over 60 people have signed up for

:12:32.:12:35.

the event, with others now on a waiting list. Madeleine Ware

:12:36.:12:37.

reports. 87`year`old George's wife died five

:12:38.:12:41.

years ago. For the last few years on Christmas Day, he's attended a lunch

:12:42.:12:46.

for pensioners at the Town Hall It is a fantastic day. A social

:12:47.:12:54.

occasion. It is quite good. There are people here in the same boat as

:12:55.:13:05.

me. They are all mostly widows or widowers. It'll be the tenth year

:13:06.:13:11.

the Christmas lunch has been held here. The brainchild of Nigel Kerton

:13:12.:13:16.

and his wife, they run it with the help of volunteers and donations

:13:17.:13:19.

from local shops. And they can't keep up with demand. We started with

:13:20.:13:27.

30 people. Then the demand rose and gradually crept up to 40. For the

:13:28.:13:31.

last four or five years, it has been 44, 46. This year, we have an

:13:32.:13:40.

unprecedented record number of 4. We have had to start a waiting list

:13:41.:13:43.

for the first time ever and close the books. It would be nice for

:13:44.:13:47.

people to be aware of older people living in the streets. There are

:13:48.:13:54.

people I know who invite older people to come to them on Christmas

:13:55.:13:59.

Day and sometimes just a time close to Christmas. And it's a similar

:14:00.:14:03.

story in Frome in Somerset. This is The Big Christmas Get Together which

:14:04.:14:12.

began two years ago. It provides a Christmas lunch for the elderly

:14:13.:14:15.

people living alone and those who can't afford a good Christmas.

:14:16.:14:19.

Again, run by volunteers who say the numbers keep growing. Nigel Kerton

:14:20.:14:22.

is now urging other towns and cities to follow suit and provide a

:14:23.:14:25.

community Christmas lunch for people who might otherwise go without.

:14:26.:14:36.

A life`sized model dinosaur that roamed the Avon Gorge millions of

:14:37.:14:39.

years ago has been unveiled in central Bristol.

:14:40.:14:41.

The thecodontosaurus has taken two months to build, as part of a

:14:42.:14:44.

four`year project at the University of Bristol. Its bones were

:14:45.:14:47.

originally discovered on Durdham Downs nearly 200 years ago.

:14:48.:14:49.

Scientists have been finding out about its environment and lifestyle.

:14:50.:15:00.

It was a herbivore. It was eating plants. The locomotion was mostly on

:15:01.:15:07.

two, but it could also use four legs. It used to live on tropical

:15:08.:15:12.

islands. Bristol was very different to what it is now. There were small

:15:13.:15:20.

geckos roaming around and luxurious plants and he was feeding on those

:15:21.:15:23.

plants. Imagine bumping into that on the

:15:24.:15:31.

Downs! Music fans are in for a treat this

:15:32.:15:35.

weekend as the BBC Introducing radio programme goes on a tour of

:15:36.:15:38.

Wiltshire's up`and`coming talent. The team have taken cameras along

:15:39.:15:41.

with them and come up with something of a first, as Jules Hyam explains.

:15:42.:15:45.

It is a radio programme, a popular one. BBC Introducing showcases

:15:46.:15:48.

unsigned musical talent here in the West. But tomorrow, there's a twist.

:15:49.:15:55.

The team describe it as a just like their normal radio show, except with

:15:56.:15:59.

pictures, so you get to see the artists as well as hear them. We

:16:00.:16:10.

wanted to highlight the importance of online music videos for artists.

:16:11.:16:14.

As part of it, we spoke to loads of acts in the region, including one

:16:15.:16:23.

special one, Gabrielle. She has had a lot of success. Sam and his fellow

:16:24.:16:26.

presenter Richard Pitt travelled around Wiltshire chatting with four

:16:27.:16:29.

different musical outfits who use video as part of their work. If you

:16:30.:16:36.

do not have a music video online, you are probably not a competing

:16:37.:16:41.

artist. I think it is vital. I think a lot of artists, frankly, and we

:16:42.:16:46.

spoke to a guy at a church in Wiltshire and he said, his band

:16:47.:16:51.

they only exist on new cheap. That is the only place they only really

:16:52.:16:57.

have any content `` they only exist on YouTube . You can see and hear

:16:58.:17:06.

the show tomorrow at 8pm. The video will be available through the BBC

:17:07.:17:09.

Introducing website. A radio show, this time with added with pictures.

:17:10.:17:13.

Sport, it's nearly the halfway point of the football season and we've

:17:14.:17:17.

been checking on how Yeovil Town have adapted to life in the

:17:18.:17:18.

Championship. Alistair is here. Will they be happy

:17:19.:17:22.

with the season so far? They are loving it. Off the field, they're

:17:23.:17:28.

thrilled. Of course, everyone expected them to be in a relegation

:17:29.:17:31.

battle. They have the smallest budget in the division. And although

:17:32.:17:34.

there are positives, manager Gary Johnson says there's still a lot of

:17:35.:17:38.

room for improvement both on, and as crucially, off the pitch.

:17:39.:17:44.

With seven points from the last nine, they're heading towards

:17:45.:17:47.

Christmas in high spirits at Huish Park. Why did the footballer take a

:17:48.:17:54.

piece of rope onto the pitch? He was the skipper. The jokes may need some

:17:55.:18:00.

work, but their form on the field is as good as it's been all season And

:18:01.:18:03.

they're now looking to capitalise with five games between now and New

:18:04.:18:08.

Year's Day. This is the time to put in a big effort. You must not leave

:18:09.:18:12.

it too late on in the season to have to win the last three games. You

:18:13.:18:16.

have to get the wins now. I said that I wanted us out of the bottom

:18:17.:18:20.

three by Christmas. They are putting in the effort. The upturn in form

:18:21.:18:25.

has coincided with the arrival of a former Premier League striker, happy

:18:26.:18:29.

to join a relegation fight. I feel like it humbles you, I have been too

:18:30.:18:35.

big clubs and bigger places where you have a bigger fan base. But I

:18:36.:18:40.

feel like being here has made me happy and that is the main thing. We

:18:41.:18:45.

saw that poster and we thought it was Yeovil Town. We are the pussycat

:18:46.:18:51.

that thinks it is a lion. Yeovil know they're the minnows of the

:18:52.:18:54.

Championship, but Johnson says the team's rise now needs to be matched

:18:55.:18:58.

off the field. They don't have a permanent training base, often

:18:59.:19:00.

borrowing pitches from local schools. We cannot always be

:19:01.:19:05.

scrimping and saving for things other teams that this level take for

:19:06.:19:09.

granted. You have got to make sure the players are comfortable when you

:19:10.:19:16.

bring in professional players from the premiership. We have got to

:19:17.:19:19.

catch up if they want to keep this football club in the division. These

:19:20.:19:24.

plans for a new stand and retail store have stalled because of local

:19:25.:19:27.

opposition. With all corporate boxes sold out for this Championship

:19:28.:19:30.

season, the club says it shows redevelopment is essential. The

:19:31.:19:36.

biggest stadium `` the bigger stadium, the more you can have

:19:37.:19:39.

hospitality packages and that is crucial for the long`term future of

:19:40.:19:44.

the football club. While Yeovil s players now appear comfortable with

:19:45.:19:46.

their Championship status, bridging the gap off the field is proving to

:19:47.:19:49.

be a greater challenge. It's bottom club Barnsley for Yeovil

:19:50.:19:56.

tomorrow. Here are all the fixtures including Steve Cotterill's first

:19:57.:19:59.

home match in charge of Bristol City. They play Rotherham at Ashton

:20:00.:20:01.

Gate. In rugby, all our teams will be

:20:02.:20:04.

looking for back`to`back wins against teams they faced last

:20:05.:20:06.

weekend. Gloucester take on Edinburgh in the Heineken Cup. Bath

:20:07.:20:12.

play host to Mogliano in the Amlin Challenge Cup while Bristol are away

:20:13.:20:15.

to Gala in the British and Irish Cup.

:20:16.:20:23.

It's going to busy but don't go away. And it's Sports Personality of

:20:24.:20:30.

the Year this weekend and West Country hopes will be with Minehead

:20:31.:20:33.

rugby coach Dionne Jones. It's three weeks since we surprised her with

:20:34.:20:37.

our BBC West Sports Unsung Hero Award.

:20:38.:20:41.

That was a brilliant moment. It was in recognition for the tireless work

:20:42.:20:44.

she's done with juniors and girls teams at the West Somerset club

:20:45.:20:47.

She'll find out on Sunday if she's won the national award. And here she

:20:48.:20:51.

is, with some of the girls she coaches. Welcome, ladies. How are

:20:52.:21:00.

you feeling about Sunday? A bit nervous but I am looking forward to

:21:01.:21:04.

it. I have not had much time to think about it because I have been

:21:05.:21:07.

busy coaching. I have not tried my outfit on yet. You will look

:21:08.:21:11.

amazing. These are your helpers, some of your

:21:12.:21:14.

players. Do you think you would have played rugby without her forcing you

:21:15.:21:20.

to or encouraging you to? It was a chance to do something different.

:21:21.:21:27.

Chelsea, she is not only your courage, she is your mum. What is

:21:28.:21:34.

she like as your coach? It is not really different. It is coach at

:21:35.:21:41.

Grub B, not mum. `` coach at Rugby. I am captain of the under 13s

:21:42.:21:48.

girls' rugby, I normally get picked. But everyone has to have the chance,

:21:49.:21:53.

otherwise it is not fair. Give us an insight, what chance has she got?

:21:54.:21:58.

They are all heroes, great people, worthy winners. We think she is

:21:59.:22:04.

amazing. She has a great chance I am interested to know who you are

:22:05.:22:08.

looking forward to meeting? It would be good to talk to some of the elite

:22:09.:22:13.

rugby players and maybe steal some of their coaching ideas to take back

:22:14.:22:17.

to Minehead. What rugby team do you support? England ladies. Good

:22:18.:22:24.

choice. We have our fingers crossed for you. We have been talking to

:22:25.:22:29.

some of the local people and they have been sending you messages.

:22:30.:22:34.

Congratulations on the award. I would like to say a massive thank

:22:35.:22:41.

you on behalf of the and the RFU. Very proud to have been involved in

:22:42.:22:46.

your development as a coach and to work with you over the past year.

:22:47.:22:50.

Good luck on Sunday. I hope you win. I am so proud of you. Massive good

:22:51.:22:54.

luck for the weekend. You are an amazing friend, a brilliant man and

:22:55.:23:01.

one in a million. `` a brilliant mother. I would like to congratulate

:23:02.:23:09.

you on your award. We would like to thank you for your tireless work and

:23:10.:23:13.

wish you the very best of luck at the awards on Sunday. Lovely

:23:14.:23:17.

messages. You did not know we were going to do that. That is amazing.

:23:18.:23:24.

They have been there throughout this whole coaching journey, setting up

:23:25.:23:27.

the ladies, the girls, it is brilliant. Fantastic. We have done

:23:28.:23:35.

so well regionally. Now we are hoping for the best nationally. What

:23:36.:23:38.

could go wrong? She is the winner, isn't she? Yes. Live on Sunday on

:23:39.:23:46.

BBC One. 7:40pm. We will be watching.

:23:47.:23:51.

Rooting for you. Let us catch up with the weather.

:23:52.:23:53.

Ian is still on the roof. Positively balmy here. Temperatures

:23:54.:24:03.

have been about 11 degrees today. That will continue into a quite mild

:24:04.:24:11.

weekend. Earlier I promised there would be rain on the way. That will

:24:12.:24:15.

be accompanied by increasingly windy conditions. That will be later on

:24:16.:24:20.

Saturday. In the evening. That will be out of the way by Sunday morning.

:24:21.:24:26.

Sunday again, a reasonable window of dry places with sunny weather before

:24:27.:24:30.

things cloud over and further rain comes up from the south. How far

:24:31.:24:34.

north that extends on Sunday evening is slightly open to doubt. A summary

:24:35.:24:40.

in the broad sense. Let us start with where we are at the moment The

:24:41.:24:43.

earlier rain is well out to the east now. Decent clear skies for those of

:24:44.:24:49.

you looking for the meteor showers that peak tonight. Tomorrow the next

:24:50.:24:55.

front comes in. Meaningful feature in terms of stronger winds and

:24:56.:24:58.

persistent rain. Out of the way before Sunday morning. Sunday, a

:24:59.:25:05.

good deal of dry weather. Then in the evening, further rain threatens

:25:06.:25:13.

into Monday. There are some showers around for the time being. Pushing

:25:14.:25:17.

up through the Bristol Channel. A rarity for many of you to see those

:25:18.:25:21.

tonight. It will be decent for spotting meteors for the majority of

:25:22.:25:26.

not all. Towards the second half of the night, little in the way of

:25:27.:25:29.

significant change. A dry start tomorrow. Temperatures chillier than

:25:30.:25:34.

last night. One or two spots where we get down to about one or two

:25:35.:25:39.

degrees. Urban areas holding closer to treat five degrees. Tomorrow

:25:40.:25:45.

hazy sunshine `` three to five degrees. The key thing will be the

:25:46.:25:49.

steady increasing cloud as we kick through the course of the day.

:25:50.:25:53.

Particularly in the afternoon, much more conspicuously cloudy. It will

:25:54.:25:58.

turn wetter. That will be a feature reserved for the evening rather than

:25:59.:26:02.

the afternoon. It stayed right through most of the daylight hours.

:26:03.:26:06.

The rain will spread its weight used woods when it arrives and turned

:26:07.:26:09.

quite heavy and persistent. Winds gusting in the West in exposed areas

:26:10.:26:16.

up to 45 miles an hour. Windier than what we have seen over recent days.

:26:17.:26:20.

Temperatures will be again on the mild side. Nine or ten should be

:26:21.:26:26.

widespread by tomorrow afternoon. By Sunday, we are likely to lift those

:26:27.:26:33.

further, 11 to 13. Outbreaks of rain spreading in from the south after

:26:34.:26:36.

that. Looking beyond that, next week, we start quite an interesting

:26:37.:26:43.

summation of fortunes. A much breezier and unsettled pattern

:26:44.:26:48.

developing towards Christmas. The threat of some noticeably windy and

:26:49.:26:53.

wet weather on the Wednesday. Looking further run towards the

:26:54.:26:57.

Christmas period, broadly the same setup but with the potential of

:26:58.:27:00.

something chillier getting towards Christmas itself. We will keep on

:27:01.:27:05.

eye on that for you. Certainly mild, but like I say to

:27:06.:27:13.

much, put your coat on! `` to my children.

:27:14.:27:17.

Our highlight of the day when we open the door on our programme macro

:27:18.:27:28.

Advent calendar. `` Points West And it's this, taken by Tessa Huygens

:27:29.:27:31.

from Portishead. In magical shot. Very wintry. The snow makes

:27:32.:27:36.

everything look pretty. It depends where you are.

:27:37.:27:40.

We will have an update for you at tempi. Enjoy the weekend.
