Of Good evening from Points West. Almost ?10,000 pounds in grants have

been handed out to those who've seen their property and businesses

flooded on the Somerset Levels. The charity raising the money says it's

received generous donations from the public. Meanwhile a large crowd

gathered this morning along the River Parrett as high tide

approached. Andrew Plant reports. Queuing for Sunday morning coffee `

the high tide due here in Burrowbridge this morning attracting

big crowds. Rarely have they seen the River Parrett so swollen.

Environment Agency staff sandbagging weak spots at first light.

Eventually,they were no match for the sheer weight of water. The

bursting of the banks lasted about 15 minutes and now the water level

has gone down just an inch or so. What was striking was the person as

it came up beside it pushed its way through and all the sound bites that

had been put in place had almost no effect whatsoever. Local people were

unfazed. They have seen it all before. Across the other side of the

Somerset Levels, home`made defences protecting Long Sutton Golf club,

its 18`hole fairways now home to a hovercraft.

Last year was the worst ever, and this year is worse again, about 18

inches deeper, maybe even two feet deep. This is crazy. Lorraine Hall

is five months pregnant and has had to close her business.

Lorraine and around 40 other flooding victims have been given

?250 from a local fund. At what should be a good time for us, it is

a complete mess. This is beginning to have an

enormous impact on people's lives, and we are also very interested to

look at what other kind of support can refund, but people need to have

a crisis helpline or cancelling support.

Amphibious vehicles arrived near the cut`off village of Muchelney this

afternoon to help ferry supplies. Even when this water eventually

goes, the problems it's caused will linger even longer.

The Bishop of Gloucester is to retire after almost a decade in the

role. The Right Reverend Michael Perham said he would go in November

after more than ten "happy, stimulating and fruitful years"

He's been a strong advocate of the role of women in the Church as

priests and bishops. In the summer he'll undertake a seven`day

pilgrimage walking through the diocese.

Two of the West's prisons are up for sale. Gloucester Prison is more than

200 years old ` part of it is Grade II listed. Meanwhile, offers are

also invited for Shepton Mallet Prison, which is Britain's oldest

jail. Both closed last March. Football now, and Yeovil Town have

lost their latest Championship game three one away at Nottingham Forest.

The only goal for the Glovers came from the head of Kieffer Moore. The

result means that Yeovil remain at the bottom of the league table six

points from safety. Meanwhile it was a mixed weekend for

our other local football teams. Frustration for Bristol Rovers and

Cheltenham, a setback for Swindon, but some relief for Bristol City.

Andy Howard has the round`up. A little birdie tells me Bristol

City are out of the relegation zone in league one for the first time

since mid`November. Two goals in as many minutes from Marvin Elliott

were enough to complete a comeback against Carlisle, after going a goal

down at Ashton Gate. They are too young to know at the

moment. They haven't been in the game long enough to know what they

have achieved I digging themselves out of that. Swindon Town couldn't

dig out anything at the county ground and are two places outside

the playoffs, Oldham's Jonathan Grounds with the only goal.

The only differs between the teams was that they wanted to little more

than us. It didn't take Cheltenham long to get going against

rock`bottom Northampton, but Jamie Cureton's second`minute goal was

about as good as it got, it ended 1`1.

This happened too many times, we have taken the lead to many times

and gone on not to win games. It's another mistake that has cost us

from picking up a much deserved victory. And Bristol Rovers are now

just a point above the league two relegation zone after a 3`1 defeat

at league leaders Chesterfield, Lee Brown's first goal of the season the

highlight of a difficult afternoon. Meanwhile in rugby, Bristol had a

convincing win over Jersey in the Championship. Final score at the

Memorial Stadium fifty four points to fourteen with the home side

running in seven tries. Now the weather: good evening.

We have strengthening winds through the night with rain arriving before

tomorrow. For the time being few showers coming through. Winds pick

up through the night but they should keep things fairly mild, lows of

five or six degrees. We start tomorrow dry, with strong winds in

place and through the day we see this area of rain working in from

the west. We have a yellow warning in place for parts of Somerset and

could see further flooding problems. Top temperatures getting

up to seven or eight degrees. In to choose day, by day we will see heavy

showers, but by night we will see heavy rain and strong winds and it

stays extremely unsettled into Wednesday.

generally dry and breezy. The breezes picking up again overnight,

the wind is getting lively again around western coasts and with

further high tides, the ongoing risk of coastal flooding. Though strong

winds bringing the rain back to Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, apart

from a few showers, a dry night and mainly frost free. A wet start

across Northern Ireland, the rain pepping up across Pembrokeshire

Devon and Cornwall through the day. Many central and eastern areas will

stay dry with a bit more cloud around and we have seen today. The

cloud will certainly thicken across western Scotland, with outbreaks of

rain ageing in across here. Not much rain through the central belt and

after a wind wet and windy morning, Northern Ireland turning brighter.

Most of the day will be dry across the bulk of England, more cloud that

we have seen through the weekend but some bright and sunny spells are
